That's a good news. I can hardly believe Sony's developers are so quick because the first lollipop update was delayed for about 2 months.

Very good news. But I heard that it will be delayed until august

Wishful Thinking: Implementing the camera 2.0 api

Sony said they are concidering the new API if people want it.
Which i do because college work...
Looks like sony is 5 months ahead of schedule for 5.1
Though then again 4.2,4.3 and 4.4 were faster then expected

Actually i guess that was nothing but a scripted answer in the sony forums..it's huge work and step to be done since 2 companies implemented it fully apart from the nexus line..

good, hope it comes not too late

I hope they use raw camera in them

Since certification we have to wait at least two months like it was with 5.0.2 Lollipop, so the earliest ETA we can expect Android 5.1.x is July 2015

I don't see this version certified at all yet but when it is there is no "two months" wait requirement.
Sometimes once certified you see a release with weeks.

I hope they update camera binaries to support Camera2 api. I don't have to have RAW, manual exposure would be sufficient. How hard can it be?

Xperia Sp Kitkat "Under Investigation"

Has anyone check the support pages for xperia sp? I think we have a bad news about future update. Before the 4.3 comes, kitkat is the future version. But after an update, the change it to under investigation.

If Sony doesn't release 4.4 for SP I might buy the Z1 Compact or whatever will be the SP's succesor(only if it has 2 GB of ram !). What do you think Sony wants me to do ?
Most of the phones that have recently had 4.3 released had said that they were under investigation to get it. It doesn't mean we won't it just means they are going to see how much work it will take to do. Still a really good chance we will see it

Agree with you. I had the same thought!
I do believe that 4.4 will come to SP, since they have announced it as "future version" like last year. I guess they just want to take a break for a while for the whining that we SP users gave to them.
Sony should release 4.4 +1 version. Since they support a device 18 months, I reckon that a version above Kitkat will release and that will be the last and the final update.

I don't think that is possible due to the limitation of the sensor, when cropping to 16:9 the 20.7MP area, it wouldn't be 20.7MP anymore.
the 4:3 is 5248x3936
16:9 at 20.7MP would be 6060x3409 or around there, while the height would fit, the length of would not, missing around 700ish pixels on the length to make it 20.7MP 16:9. Would need at least a 27.6MP or so 4:3 sensor to get 20.7MP 16:9.
Perhaps kit kat will enable 20.7MP 4:3 in superior mode for the rest of the world.
That would be nice if they could do that and I understand what you are saying in regards to the pixels needed for full 20mp 16.9.
I hope KitKat won't drain the battery as I am finding it excellent with 4.3 and just coming upto 4 days and 18% remaining that's with over 8 hrs talk and taking a few pics and so on.

I know the feeling when you see new update is coming, but we know also how the things go when we speak about marketing.

New camera api need drivers update (it depends also on hardware, not only on software, so lollipop is not synonymous of camera api 2). For now even on z3 and z2 there aren't, speak about xperia family. Don't expect camera api 2 on our phone, first thing for a marketing choice. Which are the phones with new camera api support? For example, I saw Nexus 5....
Oh yes, s6 and m9 lol

Great job Sony! But i do not expect it to be upgraded to Android M
5.1 is really service pack for 5.0. Current version is quite buggy

So much irony over here.. Previously before this annunciation we had post like „I don't expect Sony will bring us 5.0.x“,. after that we've seen „Sony is so dumbasse* that they can't bring us 5.1“ (or sth), and now, when we're officially getting 5.1 people start's saying „I don't expect Android M“.. c'mon, guys. We're so damn lucky that we even got 5.0.x, because our Z is 2+ years old.
come on guys even the nexus devices don't get updates tis much. instead of feeling bad about android m be glad about our XZ's having a L update. i think sony is doing a great job about android and phones or tablets. it's a shame that other phones users don't see the durability, camera, support and power of our devices.

thats why i will stick to Sony. i abandoned Chinese handsets a long time ago and bought an Xperia Z with a nice open source policy, a big community and updates for this handset. Thank you Sony for supporting us!

well i think there are some camero improvements. especially speed of focus. it focuses faster than before and i tink low light photos are better too. at least i feel that way
Another 8 months more to get 5.1 based on my own speculation. Sony Mobile first announce their lollipop upgrade @oct last year and we got it after around 7 months.
5.0 -> 5.1 is a much simpler step than 4.4 -> 5.0 so it shouldn't take as long.

Nexus Player has the Intel Atom Z3560 which uses the 64-bit instruction set. That being said, it doesn't appear to be a very powerful piece of hardware in general like the Nexus 6 is, so who knows.
Because the Nexus Player uses a 64-bit processor (Intel Atom Z3560), like the 5X, 6P, Pixel, and Pixel XL.

NOT A FAKE NEWS! I've got the proof. Oreo is coming officially.
This would be too good to be true.

I wouldn't get too optimistic. Just because some commits were found does not mean we are getting Android 8. The commits also do not explain why Google announced that we weren't seeing any further updates, and also do not explain why Google would skip a version on our devices.
Even though there are work done in AOSP for the Shamu regarding Android O, it doesn't mean that Google is going to push out an update officially. This happened to the Nexus 4 and 5 too I believe in the older days and they did not receive the versions after their EOL. On the positive side, this might be proof that the Shamu is capable of running Android O and the code for Shamu will hopefully reach out there after the full source code for Android O is out to be compiled. Makes it easier for ROM developers.
Can any one help me to install Android Nough
