Going Note 4 from GS3 as looks like Note 5 not fitting bill - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 General

I need to replace my GS3, rooted, and it appears that the Note 5 will not have a removable battery. That is the deal breaker for me. I could live without SD slot with 128GB internal but would rather have SD. I really can't wait as the GS3 has issues with charging port and the SD card constantly un-mounting and remounting. I have a USB port to solder in and a new headset jack but will do that after getting the Note 4. I want Samsung because I use the Multi-Window all the time for my Valentine 1 radar detector app (another V1app) and Waze. My hesitation is that Siedio does not plan to make an Obex waterproof case for the Note 4. If through some miracle Samsung keeps the removable battery and sd card for the Note 5, and perhaps waterproofs it, then I will use my wife's upgrade for it and give her the Note 4. My only other options look like the GS5 or Note 3. With my must haves of removable battery, and Samsung multi-window (and sd slot) does anyone see a different alternative that I have overlooked?

Sounds like you've summed it up for yourself and know what's out there/what suits your needs.

I'd go with the Note 4 or GS5. If samsung doesn't at least return the SD card slot to us, then I see myself with the Note 4 longer then I've ever been with a phone.

I just switched from the Note 3 to the Note 4. Was going to get the Note 5 but then I couldn't get a 10,000 mAh battery from ZeroLemon nor use my 128gb MicroSD card.

Nope, I too foster similar requirements (sans multi-window - I've migrated away from TouchWiz since the early days of my previous and first Android device, the GS3). I got my Note 4 and love it... I think that you will be happy with the decision.

Thanks for all the replies. I just wanted to make sure that I was not missing something. I'm going to get the Note 4. Now I just need to convince Siedio to make a waterproof Obex for it; Fat chance. I see there are a few other options for waterproofing and I may go that route. My GS3 is huge with the Obex but I don't mind geeking it on the belt clip. I may just get their regular Dilex case and a different waterproof one for canoeing etc.

Now, KitKat or Lollipop
Shopping I see I can get the Note 4 from BestBuy with KitKat but if I go to the Sprint corporate store, or a franchise, I'll get Lollipop. I plan to root but I am not a constant ROM upgrade guy. My GS3 I rooted right when I got it, then I flashed only once more to ND8. Both just stock rooted with hotspot. Each time I have to spend a day reading on XDA and asking questions if needed. I have Xposed for a couple of app mods now on the GS3. I will run touchwiz on the Note 4 because I want the multi-window. I have read through a few of the threads including the downgrade to Kitkat one. Should I get KitKat and run a stock rooted ROM or go ahead with Lollipop stock rooted? I really appreciate those who can offer their recommendations as I don't have time to spend all day reading through threads and trying multiple searches. Thanks clicks await.

Where you get information about the note 5. Samsung would lose sales if they change there note series. Galaxy needed the change the note series don't. I be surprised if they go s6 route. The note series made like the s6 would be over 1200 dollars up to 1500 depending on storage. They wouldn't sell many phones at that price. It's already expensive now on a 2 year or monthly payments. I'll laugh if i see 599 with 2 year agreement or 89 a month for a phone.

Just about every prediction out there, google, indicates dropping both sd card and removable battery. I hope they are wrong but tend to think they will screw the pooch on the Note 5. I need a phone now, based on the predictions I will get the Note 4. If I could hold out 4 months I would but the GS3 is tired and wonky. Big companies like Samsung rarely listen to enthusiasts, they go with the numbers dorks. The development lead guy for the Note series, if he castrates the Note 5 by removing its gonads, need to be executed by anti-aircraft gunfire. Just like the North Korean Defense Minister, who made the fatal error of taking a nap during a meeting with the ruthless narcissist, Kim Jon Un.

I just don't think they would do that to note users. We are power users and that's the point of the note series IMO. FINGERS CROSSED AND HOLDING MY N4 TIGHTLY

I can't see how the price will stay the same if they go the s6 route. That would be one expensive phone and pricey phones over 1200 won't move far. I don't care how long your money is 1200 for a phone not made of gold is just plain dumb. I just can't remember ever hearing anyone complain about the note series build quality. Even in phone reviews. But if the world we live in anything is possible so i wouldn't be surprised if they did and i wouldn't buy it period. Fingers crossed

I picked up the Note 4 at lunch and it's now rooted via Odin and CF-Auto-Root. One of the salesman at the Sprint Corporate store deflated when I told him that I would not bother waiting on the Note 5 as it appears to already be castrated. He pulled out his Note 4 and said he had 6 batteries and a 128GB sd card and agreed that he will probably be using the Note 4 for a long time.
I'm now looking to flash a near stock rooted rom. I want Knox gone and I want a bunch of bloat gone. I have been using an app called Multi-Window Manager to modify the multi-window to include the apps I want. It depends on Exposed Framework. I will have to wait for the masters to make that happen or shop for a different app that does not need it. Does such a thing exist? Now off to Android Development to shop ROM's. Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the sprint Note 4 forums David. I think you made the right choice. The Note 4 is a great phone and will do anything and everything you need it to do for at least the duration of your contract. By then you can decide if you want a new phone or keep the Note 4. I personally think the Note 4 will serve a lot of people for a long time... definetely for at least two years. There's not much that you'll need to mod or change to be perfectly happy with the note 4. It's awesome straight out of the box. You have a few options for custom/stock roms and any one of them will be great. My rom project is out of commission for a while until I get ready for a new release and update my rom thread. I'm stepping back and taking a different approach with the next release of my rom. There's just SOOOOO many things that can be modded & themed on this phone that's it can be overwelming and definetely time consuming to build roms and port things, do mod etc.
You should definetely consider running Lollipop as it is much more optimized than kitKat and rom development, mods, themes, etc will be more available for Lollipop and newer software versions.

Thanks Tex! Lollipop came out on top after reading in the Development forum. I Odined twrp and transferred your Stock rooted Odexed ROM to my sd card. I'm about to flash it but trying to find the hotspot mod to flash it right afterward. I just read your whole stock rooted bob7 thread and saw hints of adding any app to the Multi-window feature. I used Multi-Window manager before but it requires Exposed Framework. I'll also be watching for your next ROM. I want to ditch a bunch of apps including knox and all Sprint and most Samsung apps. I am tempted to try a de-bloated ROM but want Multi-Window which means Touchwiz. I also want the S-pen to work even though I don't really know how much I will use it. I could just follow the 'Running list of Note 4... safe to remove' thread but it seems incomplete.
Thanks for your hard work!

Be careful with debloating yourself. there's several apk's that are necessary for other apps to work. there's really no need to remove anything other than known bloat apps. Leave everything else alone or you could debloat yourself into some problems. Not to toot my own horn but this ROM might fit the bill for you. There are a few other ROMs here in the forums so look around. Hotspot mod is already included in both of those roms. If you browse my AFH Lollipop mods folder you will find a flashable zip for the hotspot mod but if you're on the stock odexed rom you will need to manually remove an odex file in order for it to work. More details on how to do this can be found HERE.

I'm downloading the Hybrid X Series 2.0 Base Odexed ROM you linked below. You say it has the hotspot mod. Does your Stock_Rooted_NoKnox_N910PSPT1BOB7_SPR.zip have the hotspot mod? Or do I have to flash the Deodexed_N915PSPT2BOC8_N915PVPU2BOC8_Hotspot Mod.zip using the instructions you linked to remove the .odex file? For the Hybrid X where can i read about it's features? The KitKat based Hybrid X Series (Dark Themed) ROM thread is closed. Thanks again!

TheStock_Rooted_NoKnox_N910PSPT1BOB7_SPR is a completely stock rom with no mods or enabled hotspot.
Deodexed_N915PSPT2BOC8_N915PVPU2BOC8_Hotspot Mod.zip is ONLY for the Sprint note Edge. I pointed yo to that thread only for the instructions which are the same for flashing the correct OB7 hotspot mod on the regularSprint Nore 4. Yes my rom thread is close until i redo my OP and get a new build ready. I'll pm you a link to the rom details.

Hybrid X Series 2.0 Base Odexed is installed and running perfectly. Made flipboard Google games-music-news-magazine-...all go away. I use their search engine and calendar. What about Sprint Zone? Can it go away?
Many thanks to tx_dbs_tx. I'll donate again when your updates come along as I appreciate the time and effort spent creating ROMS and the help with those new to custom ROMS like me.

You're welcome and thanks for the donation that was awesome of you. As for Sprint Zone, yes you can get rid of it or freeze it if you want. I rarely use it but i do use it when i want to check out things on my account. It's much better than it used to be it it's harmless. I leave it in my ROMs because I don'y want to remove things and cause people to have to search for things to put back into the ROM so they can use those stock features. My rom concept is a little different than other custom ROMs. I make my ROMs the way i like it. I keep all stock Samsung apps and all critical apps in the ROM so that everybody has full features upon flashing. In short, it's a stock rom on steriods. LOL. You can flash it and not have do anything but install your favorite apps and still have that stock look & feel. Take care.

Up-to-date ROM list

Hi,
In case it helps, I have an up-to-date Galaxy Note 2 ROM list kept here, which includes the GT-N7100, N7105 models.
Someone was asking for a list in the AT&T section, so I thought I'd post this info in each section to tell people.
It's kind of a hobby, but it's kept up-to-date pretty much every day.
Some of you might find it useful.
That's some serious consolidation done there m8! Great job, surely helps!
Thanks.
Just a quick bump in case it can help anyone out who doesn't know about it.
Super awesome. If you could just sort it base wise like touchwiz and aosp.
this is XXXDDDAAA
Hi,
It came to my attention that I'd forgotten to add a few roms from the `Original Android Development' sections for the different carriers.
Sorry about that. Those roms have now been added.
Just a quick bump. The Galaxy Note 2 ROMs list is still regularly updated.
I hope it continues to help people out. As usual most of the ROMs are here at XDA.
Thanks.
Note 2 ROMs
cool thanks
I'm still using my Note 2 (believe it or not). The Galaxy Note 2 ROMs list is still going strong, too - although it has gotten easier with less ROM development.
(This is kind of a thread bump. I'm looking to switch to a Galaxy S8 Edge in the near future, if they are any good.)

Sorry for the boring reply, but I would recommend whichever one you try and like.
MIUI is nice for a change sometimes. Here in Japan, we were limited as to which ROMs we could flash, so I eventually went back to the latest ROMs from the carrier (DoCoMo).
The Galaxy Note 2 is still a nice phone. I'm looking forward to changing devices in the coming months, after having stayed with the Note 2 since it came out.
I pay quite a bit each month here for my phone, so it makes sense to benefit from a newer device if I'm still paying quite a bit each month.
The Note 2 still does everything I need it to do. But after trying other devices in the stores, I realize that they are quicker, lighter, and it's important to freshen up life with new experiences. (I'm kind of old fashioned, so I have to remind myself to change every few years.)
(It can also be tricky getting a 24 month contract when you live abroad and rely on renewing your visa annually.)
.. Go with whichever ROM you like, and read the threads and see how much enthusiasm there is for each one.

Do you know the main ROM thread for that? (It doesn't have to be XDA.)
For example: This thread links to these files.
That ROM you posted the link to is dated as more recent, so it would be nice to know the thread it belongs to.
Thanks.
I dont think theres even a thread but therom works fine. I flashed it some days back @Grant Barker
Only the buttons backlight doesn't work. Other than that everything works fine.

[Q] Thinking about getting a Note 3

Hello everyone. I don't have that many posts here, but please don't let that reflect me lol. I tend to trade phones a lot. I currently have a Verizon S4...I like the phone, but I am on the latest MK2 firmware...Here just recently, SafeStrap has became available. However, there is really 1 ROM that works right, and is stable, and that is Hyperdrive. Hyperdrive is a great ROM, I am not bashing at all. It's just not my cup of tea. In the past I have been a huge fan of Eclipse. Eclipse is not working with Safestrap at this time...I have had this phone for a couple of months, and it sucks waiting week after week hoping devs have made progress...Anywho, what can you guys tell me about the Note 3?
If I went to Verizon and picked one up, am I going to be able to root it and install a variety of roms, or am I going to be stuck like I am with the S4?
If I am going to be stuck like I am now, then that is definately going to make me choose a different phone. If so, could someone recommend one? I have been a huge fan of the Samsung phones here recently since the S3 and Note 2. I really liked my Note 2. I also really like Motorola's...They are durable phones, and safestrap is nice...Here recently SafeStrap has became available for Samsungs which is awesome.
Heads up !!the powers that be will move this thread to the q&a section.... but to answer if you want to crack flash...note 3 is not for you.....maybe moto x, or if you want a bigger device the Lg g2 has some good development.
One thing about the note3 is that you should be able to deal with the phone( stock )....and rooting it just to de bloat and themeing. The phone Is quick and Imo the spen and touchwiz are essential to this device! so asop roms are not happening.
hope this helps...good luck...
p.s. still stock Un rooted and kicking ass... coming from gnex!
You can checkout the ROMs section in the Note 3 forum to see the available ROMs. I come from an S3 and the choice of ROMs there was ample. Note 3 however has very few ROMs as opposed to the S3. However, the ones that are there are pretty good. I am on Beans ROM and it gives me everything that I want.
One important thing for me is the ability to use the PEN (Along with all the apps, SPEN, Scrap book etc). Beans gives me full features as far as the pen is concerned. I guess there are other ROMs as well that do it (Hyperdrive). But any new "Original" ROM development that happens for the Note 3, might have some limitations. if you are not a big user of the PEN, then it might not matter to you.
Nutshell, I love my Note 3 and the fact that I am running a non-stock ROM on it. Hope this helps.
Thanks guys! Well I glanced through the roms, but I don't know what firmware the note 2 comes with if I was to go get one right now. That being said, I wasn't sure if the one that it came with is rootable, or if it is locked tight like the s4...One rom specifically that I am looking for on the note 3 would be eclips....Without doing a bunch of research, I figured it would be easiest to just open a thread an ask, that way I got accurate information.
Oops, sorry about using the wrong forum.
most of what is considered roms these days are actually themes applied over the top of a stock rom. Those hundreds of roms you see for the S3 and Note2 can be easily achieved yourself with a couple of apps and a bit of know how. The Note3 has everything one needs. If you buy retail you can use safestrap and flash touchwiz roms only. If you buy a Developer Device, then you can flash AOSP or Touchwiz since the bootloader is unlocked. Also most everything in the T-mobile section N3 is compatible with the VZW DE N3, so there is actually alot of development going on if you look in the right places and do not expect silver spoon feeding on a platinum platter.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I wasn't expecting to be spoon fed anything. I just don't get a good grasp on whats going on and have the device in my hand. I wanted to make sure that I could do what I was wanting to do with it before I went and bought this phone. I guess my one last question is, what is the firmware that will come with it, or what is the latest I should ask. Just so that I can check on my rom options.
Reason why I am asking this, is because the S4 was kind of confusing at first because devs are making mk2 roms, but they aren't working with ss...There are some other things as well, but thats beside the point. lol.
Moving to Q and A and closing... Best any more discussion goes here..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466108

(Soon to be) New TMO G2 owner

Just have a few questions and concerns about moving to this phone, figured I'd give it a shot and see what the collective group thought...
Background: Coming from a GS3 (T999L LTE model) and avid hater of KNOX and stupid warranty bit tripping issues, lock outs and general d*cking around the device manufacturer does to the device to make tinkering next to impossible. I understand there is a similar situation with the G2, and also understand there *might* be ways to work around it?
1. Seeing as the new OTA has gone live for the G2 on Tmo, how likely is it that I'll receive a new unit with the update on it?
1a. If I get one without the latest update, how easy is it to then root/custom recovery/update retaining all of those2. I'm perfectly cool using the stock ROM, I mostly just root for debloating and ad-blocking (I love supporting devs, some don't have ad-less options though). How much bloat might I encounter and are they easily disabled (without need for root).
3. Are there any goofy folder setups in the internal SD card? (meaning on the GS3, once you went to 4.3 it changed the layout to /sdcard/0/DCIM versus the original /sdcard/DCIM)
4. I've grown very accustomed to using the volume rocker to change tracks when I'm in the car, so I don't have to look down for the next arrow...Is this an option that is baked in or will I need to use Xposed?
4a. Is Xposed working on the latest official ROM? I've seen people having it working and others saying it doesnt5. I really want a wallet style case for my device, nothing special, maybe 2 slots to carry a burner debit card (I'm notorious for forgetting my wallet and want to carry a card with my phone since I never forget it). What would you recommend? I've seen the Poetic Flipbook (http://goo.gl/eGf0XL) and feel like it would be a good fit for what I'm looking for...Thoughts?
Thanks for your time, can't wait to jump ship to the G2!

1)about it coming wit the update I would not know I'd say 50/50 chance(if it's on the latest 4.4.2 it is not rootable you would have to flash back to 4.2.2 using this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476 then follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2673736 to get to kit kat with root and custom recovery)
2)yes each variant has it's amount of bloat but some are worse than others and it can be easily be removed except for the ciq which can be disabled on 4.2.2 but on kk it's giving issues
3)yes it is sdcard/0/dcim
4)I grew used to that feature two but I have not looked for a replacement but iknow g2 exposed has that option but until xposed framework gets updated to 2.5 it will not work on kitkat but works without issues on 4.2.2
5)as for case I use spigen so I don't have any recommendations but check out the g2 accessories thread and you can find help there and look through the stuf that has been reviewed already
yea it's an awesome phone
To be honest the g2 is and awesome device but the nexus 5 comes with no bloat and is stock android out of the box g2 is a great device but get its more bugfree twin nexus 5 is prob around the same price as the g2 and your going to T-Mobile I would go with nexus 5

Well I don't think anyone is working on it, so we are stuck with stock. I'm sure eventually we will, but Dev action on this thing is poor.

Have you heard something? I never owned something that did not have cool stuff.
One of the problems facing the S model is that Samsung just came out with the Pro model and most of the people who wanted a tablet of this caliber already bought that. If there never had been a Pro model I feel confident we would be getting a lot more activity.
Anyway we already have root and at least the 8.4 guys have a kernel.

Only reason we have root,is beanstown did us a favor. If he had a tab, We would have custom recovery and custom ROMs already. I really don't understand why people won't donate a device.

Because xda is based wholly on developers doing others favors and not on being compensated in advance to do so. Anyone who enjoys bean's work is free to donate to him after the fact. Xda is a volunteer network, not a marketplace.
Just be patient. We'll get our share of kernels and roms eventually. It's not like the Tab S is a worthless brick without it. For me this performs better than any tablet I've ever owned as is.
Exactly. And it isn't as though you can't get much of what you would want from a custom ROM via Xposed, launchers, and the like.

Exactly. Other than CM, most roms are just themed debloated stock with some Xposed thrown in.
** Edit: I put this badly. What I meant was that roms seem to people like themed debloated stock with some Xposed thrown in. They are not the game changers they used to be when these devices had weak processors and a few hundred extra benchmark points really meant something.
Roms are awesome, but they aren't as vital as they once were.

Couldn't disagree with you more. There are alot of edits done to system files that you don't know about. Alot of work goes into incorporating those mods that people like you take for granted. Please don't be ignorant.

I have built & released custom ROMs based on Samsung official firmware.
There is a huge amount of work involved to create these ROMs and even more to support them. That's why I quit. ... (Not enough time in the day). I rarely used Xposed except for unsupported DPI changes.
Samsung "stock" ROMs are based on official Samsung firmware.
CM is "stock" ROM based on official Google source.
Based on the above, both CM and Samsung "custom" ROMs are both "stock" and "custom" (as in customised)..... If you customise anything, then it is "custom"
I am sure though that your post doesn't exactly read what you really meant.

Let me clarify. I think I put that badly.
While roms are quite an bit more work than just debloating, theming and using xposed, many of them feel to the user like that was all that was done, especially with these incredibly fast new processors that can overpower and make even not the best code run fast and smooth. I recall years ago when the HTC Evo came out. A good rom could make a HUGE difference in performance. Now take the Note 3. Using a great rom there by Freeza. Sure it's a little better than stock but the improvement isn't nearly as dramatic as in the past.
I guess my overall point is this. The Tab S is such an excellent device that even if if no one ever creates a rom for us, we will still be able to have a fast solid machine. Roms are awesome but they are not the game changers they once were.

I couldn't more then agree with you.
We already got the horse power of the tablet I never over clocked my s4 or note 10.1 because I don't feel the need to. Basically its the New features of other devices I'm curious to try out. that's why note 10.1 (2012) got the file manager from this tab and it's beautiful. A Rom is fast with a good options to choose for the user so he can make it his. Speed isn't anything that's basically needed of course its fun to use the max power but for the love of your tablet be careful. that's why I haven't included anything of these kind of apps.
Also just to mention one app is missing because it didn't deodex successfully. will add it as an optional package.
Again this is just a pure stock deodex rom I don't own this tablet but I decided since i used it for porting and there was no deodexed rom I'd make one. Does anyone know what partition boot image is at?
Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk
Wasn't Xposed designed to give the average user access to customizations they would typically only get in a rom previously? Sort of like a WYSIWYG editor instead of writing out the code by hand? And launchers speed up your experience in many of the ways only roms used to. With root and a decent app anyone can debloat their rig.
So many of the things we used to need roms for we no longer do. Of course roms like CM make a bigger difference but then again you give up some cool functionality. It's like taking the surround sound out of a racecar. Yeah you go faster but you miss your tunes (or split screen as the case may be).
Anyway, for me root and a good kernel are essential. Roms? A luxury but no longer the staple they used to be. That's not to say luxuries aren't nice and I'm sure I'll indulge if a certified developer cooks one up for us, but even if they never do I'm ok. This tablet still rocks.

Updating possibilities for Samsung Galaxy Note 2

My note 2 is updated to 4.4.2. It is rooted. I have Xposed framework installed. I use the phone -as phone, for messaging (WhatsApp), browsing, note taking (Handwritten) - mostly using "Write" APP, and some illustrations using "Write" or sketching Apps. I use Google Handwriting Input as keyboard for English and Marathi (Indian Language).
The software is showing the age and phone has become slow. Cleaning provides some temporary relief. To address this "problem" and to experience the latest version of Android, I'm looking to update it to whatever is possible. I scanned through many threads and found out following:
1. There are quite a few Marshmallow ROMs for Note 2. CM 13 and Resurrection ROMS seem to be most used/discussed. There are few more (like Bliss), based on CM.
2. These ROMs, though provide latest Android version, do not provide the access to S pen.
3. For accessing S - pen DN4 seems to be the most preferred choice. As I understand, It is android version 4.4.4 - not the latest.
4. S-Pen accessibility/functionality is also available through SPenCommand APP (Paid). It's available for CyanogenMod, AOSP and MIUI ROMs.
I'd appreciate any help/suggestions on choice of choice of ROM and any experiences on using SPenCommand with any Marshmallow ROM. Any pointers on what could be pitfalls, or, nasty surprises, in the process are most welcome.
Thanks and Regards
Vikas Garud, Pune, India.
I've tried most of roms available for note 2
Miui/RR Rom/Rubbaband and much more :|
it looks like Eclipse Rom by Ac is the best out there, its based on 4.4.4 but heavily themed like s7/N5 MM .
go for it
Thanks Iskander_mal for sharing your experience!
Eclipse V8
Let me tell you my opinion as a heavy flasher on Note 2, S3 and some other phones that I own.
So we're talking about Note 2 now.
If you need new stuff, very high android experience gor for Unofficial CM13 builds by Trafalgar Square: what's not working now on he's latest build: gps, youtube in Chrome, SD Card as internal storage.
If you want something stable and fast but you don't really need the newest android go for the Official CM 11. You get OTA updates almost every 1-2 weeks and new security updates. Everything I tested so far works there.
In my opinion OCM11 and UCM13 are the best ROMs for you.
Eclipse ROM is themed and optimized with Agni Kernel. I'm not using it. I'm more into stock android because stock is faster.

Thanks once again Iskander_mal. Just one question: Does this support S-Pen? Anything specific (APP?) required for getting the S-Pen functionality for scribbling?
Thanks,
Vikas Garud
Thanks "andrewKode" for detailed response. I am looking for something stable and fast. I'm not looking for cutting edge android features. Official CM11 seems to be the way to go for these requirements. Just one doubt: How do you get the S-Pen functionality? I don't need anything fancy - scribbling on some APP like "Write", or sketching on some APP would be sufficient for me. Off course, anything extra is welcome!
Thanks and regards

I remember when I first flashed CM10 on my galaxy note II back in early 2013, there was an app on Playstore called Papyrus. It almost had same features as the stock note taking app provided by Samsung. You can check it out.
Thanks

Thanks. I was under impression that the stylus itself may not be supported. I've played around with Papyrus and it's good. I'm not particular about Samsung apps. All that I'm looking for is ability of the styles (S-Pen) to scribble something. Your response has relieved me.
Vikas Garud.
All custom roms support Stylus. Some touchwiz based custom roms also support Air Command features.
Note II was released with android jelly bean 4.1.1 which had a strange bug called Sudden Death Syndrome. That bug prompted me to root my phone and install custom ROM in it. But after flashing CM10 I missed Samsung's note taking app as I was by that time so much used to it. I was also looking for note taking app and came across papyrus.
Can someone help me root my Sprint (boost mobile) note 2? I know nothing about rooting or roms or any of that. Just letting everyone know. I'm not very tech friendly when it comes to rooting, roms, flashing or any of that. Thanks in advance! Oh and what would the benefits of rooting and installing those roms be? I have noticed my note 2 hasn't received any updates from Samsung like the person said it would when I bought it from them??

Marshmallow 5Gghz hotspot / Fast Charging
Im still looking for an appropriate upgrade for my CM 10.1 (4.2.2) install on my n7100.
I'm stuck on it since I've had quite the charging issues over time.
I use NEAK kernel to ensure fast charging (2100 mA) adjustable up to 2900 mA (but I don't know how realistic that is to achieve.
Any ideas on fast charging Kernels/ROMs?
Anyway I'm hoping that a new Marshmallow ROM gives access to establishing a 5Ghz wifi hotspot on the device.
In theory the API from Android 6.0 allows this.
Has anyone tried this OR if using a MM based ROM could you have a look?
I have that feeling though I'm not going to be able to get both
DN4 v2.1 makes you feel that you've got a touchwizz for note 4, seems to works great but I've flashed my efs also after flashing adblock host, wifi is stuck 15mins after boot... otherwise of you like samsung stuuf it's fun. btw I'm a total nub!
Then I've tried CM12.1 lollipop by Ivan, everything works, flashing host file with moab seems to introduce latency... Sometimes it did freeze. at this time VR was broken.
Now I stick with CM13 still by Ivan, even though it's not the latest, everything works flawlessly so far! As usual adding a few MB size file host is not perfect for latency flashed batch cm13, gapps nano, moab after being fully wiped.
Even if VR didn't work, it's no longer an issue.
By the way you may need the latest Bootloader, mine is PC1. There is a cap in BL, once reached a special version, you may not be able the remove it easily. I havent tried to remove that, because I'm a total nub and I've got only my daily device to play with
Globally, I was expecting much more trouble! Just try to fly everthing in a row, otherwise it did added extra freezes and latency in my case
hey i went through same problem as you are now.
i have note 2 and i am running resurrection remix marshmallow and to be honest i think its a better option to run this rom on our ageing device than going for stock 4.4.4 roms.
as for spen functionality ,look at my signature, there is a link that provides alternatives to touchwiz/spen functionality.
Honestly RR-MM is the best rom there for our phone<<<<personal preference of course
just try roms and see what fits your needs.
here is a link, which may help you for spen cynogen or aosp by fizzingbees

My friend, listen to me. Do not listen to anyone else here. If it wasn't for Cyanogenmod 13 and Android 6.0 I would have thrown my phone into trash by now. It was so bad and crappy and laggy (and all Androids before Lollipop were). You know people at google work hard to issue out new versions of android to improve performance and everything. Lollipop was a huge jump! They (samsung) didn't give us update to Lollipop or newer because you are expected to buy new Note 4 or something.
Recently I had to revert to stock rom (4.4) for a while and I couldn't believe my eyes. It was the same hardware, the same phone! How could just software make such a huge difference?
Now I see you use s-pen and that may be a problem (i lost my s-pen a while ago so I don't know how it goes).
Anyway, install any rom with android 6.0 and you'll see yorself what I'm talking about. If you don't like it you can always go back, but who in the world would do that?

regarding your battery charging,i just cant begin to understand why you want to charge your battery at such high mah, given that samsung stock kernel charges it around 1800-1900mah. I hope its not a phony kernel feature otherwise its a miracle that your battery hasnt exploded yet.
i am using agni kernel and you can max charge at 2000mah which is pretty fast given my phone charges from dead to 100% in 1 hr 30min.
for 5gh wifi api,i hope you know what you are talking about. i am in no way expert but having a api and actually having a hardware that support and make use of that api are two different concepts.
i have MM ,so if you want me to,i can check it((if you tell me how to))
