[Q] UMI Zero issues - speaker and touch buttons. - UMi ZERO Questions & Answers

Hi all,
since I am new in this forum I would appreciate if I am in the wrong section to raise my issues, please let me know and I will accordingly move my post. Thanks.
Following issues I face with my 2 month old UMI Zero.
1. can not make regular phone calls via speaker. my partner can listen, myself cannot hear a word. fact headset icon shows in the very top menue line, speaking via headset works fine but does not make life easy.
serveral factory resets done, updates etc. nothing worked.
2. yesterday, the next issues occured out of nothing. my touch buttons do not operate anymore at all. no function behind except the blue lights. Need to reboot if I would like to switch apps/functions.
Anyone who can help me to solve my problem or experienced same issue(s).
Thank you.
Best

Same issue with buttons with my umi zero
My buttons stopped working as well all at once, considered as contact problem until one day they returned to respond unexpectedly.
After working fine for a while stopped responding once again.
Thinking it's might be software issue, I've installed a new rom material V 3.0 lollipop inspired 4.4 kitkat provided by umi Root joy tool. It didn't help, however, regardless to update the buttons now are lightened but not stable responsive therfore still useless.
For now used this post to enable soft keys: search Google for "enable-soft-keys-navigation-bar-android-phone"
Another free app which I found useful is called My home Button, can be downloaded from play store.
Hopefully a solution will be found soon

The only solution is to dissasemble the smartphone and connect properly the hardware components, you can dissassemble your phone with an hot air gun

Same issue and possible solution
Come on! Are u kidding?
My buttons stopped working yesterday but with a reboot everything was fine again. Until now. No signal from the buttons, light nor fucntion. I'll try flashing it and, if not, i will have to dissasemble and check the hardware.
If this doesn't work I'm thinking about downloading an xposed module that allows you to remap the phisycal buttons. I'll try remapping home, back and settings buttons into the power and volume ones. Let's see if it works.

First of all sorry for my bad english ( I'm french). For the problem with your touch bouton you can also use gravity box ! With this app you can enable the navigation bar and you gonna have touch bouton like the nexus phones. If you don't know how to do that you can ask me question in a next post.

Dear All,
Just want o let you know that after being hesitant for so long, I finally disassembled my Umi Zero and guess what? The back camera connector was not connected, and the touch button + speaker connector at the bottom was also not connected! I just connected them back, put the battery back, and touch buttons + mic were working fine. Tested with voice recorder, playing audio, and also few calls.
Disappointed though by the component assembly....most of the screws were very lose and one even came out without unscrewing. Also, the screws are of different sizes, so please please please take note where each screw goes (What I did is get an A4 paper, made a sketch of he phone outline, and placed the screws on each area where I removed them from).
Note : Most likely you will break the back glass cover so you might as well place an order on Aliexpress before you disassemble it. It is possible to remove it without breaking with lots of extra caution though.

No sound and no soft keys
I had the same problem with my daughters Umi Zero.
I found a work round for the buttons:
-temporarily install an app which emulates the keys so you can navigate. eg Handy Soft Keys from the Playstore
-enable in settings/accessibility
-reboot
-need to be rooted
-install file manager, eg ES file explorer
-in ES tools, activate Root Explorer
-navigate to local/device/system/build.prop
-drop to end, leave a couple of lines space then edit by adding: qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
-save and reboot
You have soft keys
Uninstall emulator app
Backup etc before you start
Haven't fixed the sound yet: nothing from the speaker, phone and headphone jack doesn't work.
Bluetooth does work.

Has anyone solved front buttons not responding problem?

Hello, I have had this TYTN I for a long time without any major problems. It was originally with WM5 but then I upgraded to WM6. Lately I had a strange problem whereby the front buttons stop responding intermittently.
The below mentioned buttons stop working:
1. The Internet Explorer button.(Above on the right)
2. The Message button.(Above on the left)
3. The Call buttons. (The call picking and disconnecting button, below left and right) And the 4 keys along it.
During this time I have to resort to the pointer or the side wheel to use the phone, which is very frustrating.
If I press the reset button at the bottom, the keys work again for a few times, then stop to respond again.
I have tried to flash again with both WM5 and WM6 but did not help. I have opened the phone and reseated all connectors but did not help either. Do you think I should try replacing the ribbon cable?
I have searched the forum and found several threads with the same problem, but never a solution.
Your help is much appreciated. Thanks.
I have been struggling the last few months with the same exact problem. Sometimes the buttons work other times they don't, and in the last couple of weeks the frequency of button failure has increased (every couple of minutes).
I found a few users yesterday over on the HTC forum who were having the same problem and 1 user who actually reported a fix that worked for him.
Go to Start/Settings/System/Key Lock and select "Do Not Lock Buttons". Exit Key Lock and soft reset your device. You may know return to the Key Lock options and re-select your choice (I used "Lock all buttons except Power button").
Worked for the HTC user and is working for me as I have had no button failure now in the last 24-hours with repeated use of the device.
I hope this works for you because if you are like me I getting very close to trashing the unit.
Hi,
the problem could be the Xilinx chip (a BGA chip) on the pcb underneath the buttons.
As the buttons are pressed the board is flexed and some of the solder pads under the xilinx chip must have become detached from the xilinx chip itself.
I had the white screen problem. An while i got the white screen the front buttons where not working too.
In the whte screen threat i found that it could be the Xilinx chip, and figured out when pressing on this chip the white screen was gone and the buttons where working.
So i resoldered (refloated) the chip with a heatgun and some liquid flux last Sunday and since then i had no problems anymore.
I would suggest disassembling the phone down to the pcb and try starting it on with the ribboncables connected while keep some pressure on the Xilinx chip. And then trying the buttons if they work.

I have the same problem with the same phone. The instructions above for "key lock" didn't fix it for me. I was assuming that it was hardware; but I just tried installing the Android port for this phone and under Android the buttons work fine.
I know that Android has some good stuff going for it, but I don't think it's awesome enough to circumvent a bad circuit... How exactly do these buttons work? Is there a process that should be running to handle them? Any other pointers?

So many hardware issues

It first started with the blue light blinking, even with the phone turned off. The only way to stop it from blinking was to remove the battery for about 10 seconds.
Then, everything I typed staarted to ddoublle letteers raandomlyy.
Now, it's acting like the down button is stuck. I can't do anything on the phone because its always scrolling down, beating out any other input.
I can live with the first two, but the third one has made the phone completely unusable. It's never been around water, never dropped, just randomly doing this crap. Any ideas on how to fix it? Hard reset does not work, new rom does not work, its a hardware issue.
Yes it is probably a hardware issue. Time for a phone swap
I'm actually out of warranty, so the only thing I can do it either switch to a different phone or try fixing this one. Have nothing to lose by opening it up, just wanted to see if anyone else has fixed it by cutting any wires or connections on the inside of the phone.

No phone insurance. Verizon completely screwed me on that phone purchase in more ways than one. By the time I figured that out it was to late.
TO bad I got mine added late. I just called the lady I bought the phone from and she added it.
Not sure about the blue-light.
I was able to fix my repeating-letters using the keyboard fix in this post:
For the constant-down input - it could either be the touchscreen digitizer or the hardware keyboard. YouTube has a series of videos on dismantling the Mogul - it may be worth some "exploratory surgery" to see what might be causing the problem (cookie crumbs, perhaps)...
Hope this helps. Good luck.
Htc mogul hardware button - issue
Dear XDA GURUS,
I am facing this very weird problem on my HTC MOGUL. All my Hardware button have stopped responding / Working. Please help me sort out this issue.
Waiting for your valued reply with solution.
Detail given on below link.
My HTC MOGUL HARDWARE Button Issue
Dear XDA GURUS,
yesterday i tried to do some RnD for this same problem. now the inputs. (Nothing technical)
* Even though my camera hardware button is not working, but, i can still enter the bootloader screen.
* Even though my both soft reset hardware button are not working, but, still i can do the hard reset.
This only means that, my buttons are working fine, but, according to my logic, they have lost there assignment.
After that i started searching web, if i can find a App / setting / hack / register setting, in which i can assign then there original key setting. So i found this on XDA forum as below.
Code:
[B]How to assign a shortcut to EndKey, SendKey, Power Button, PTT Button!![/B]
Hello
Since some of you guys asked about this , well there you go:
if you look inside the keyboard driver with a good disassembler (IDA Pro) you would see that you can create these link files :
Long_PTT.lnk (push to talk button+long press)
Long_End.lnk (the read key+long press)
Long_Send.lnk (the green key+long press)
Short_PTT.lnk (push to talk button)
Long_Power.lnk (Power button +long press)
Short_Power.lnk (Power button)
So basically all you need is to create these link files and put them in to windows folder. You can assign these keys to any shortcut you want .

ok now, certain things are clear. now anybody out there can help get this thing sorted out.
Waiting for concrete solution.

T-Mobile MDA/Wizard Malfunctioning?

Hello there, I am quite new to this forum, only being a lurker for quite some time. But I have decided to join because I am in dire need of help. My MDA/Wizard has suddenly gone out of control. I have had Mobile 6.1 installed on it for years with no problem, and the .cabs I have are working fine.
Now, recently, my phone has acted in a very unfavorable manner that has even caused me to hard reset it to it's original state, with still no luck. On about three different occasions, my phone's lights, keyboard and face, have gone off, and stay on until the phone locks. The main buttons, (Directional arrows, Exit, Call, Internet Explorer, and Mail) do not function unless I press a top right hand corner button on the keyboard twice. From there, it slightly functions. When I quickly press the power button and press it again, the phone will enter its mail area. Doing this again opens up internet explorer. Pressing the center button in the directional pad causes the screen adjustment function to suddenly appear. The keyboard can barely function.
I have no idea what's causing this, any help please?
try getting the newest hard spl and flashing a new rom. maybe your rom got corrupted

Faulty soft keys?

My Desire Z has been operational for 1.5yrs now and some problems started to show up with the soft keys (home, menu, back, search)
Every now and then, these 4 soft keys would stop working altogether (clicking them doesn't give any reaction or feedback) - for a while, and then work again like a charm.
With every time I unlock and use my phone, I get a 1-in-4 chance of having these keys working. They can even die off on me while using them.
Other than that, my entire touch screen functions are doing fine, including the bottom-most areas.
Please let me know what are the possible problems, whether it's software or hardware and how to fix it?
You're not alone man, I too am suffering from this problem. I was this close of having to send my phone to htc and have them fix it but after checking i realized my phone's no longer under warranty. It just started working again this morning and then everytime I'd reboot, the chances of having them working are second to none, it's like a hit or miss. I don't know if it's a glitch, fluke or the hardware might be waring off or something. Let me know if you find a solution, which im guessing you might have to replace the digitizer.
Unfortunately yeah, you might need to replace some hardware. In the meantime, or even instead of doing that, you could remap some of your hardware buttons to cover those functions..... I used the Button Remapper to make my quick keys do Home, Back and Menu... it works great on the G2. Not as good as having your soft keys working again perhaps, but it's an idea. Also, it does require root access.
Here is the Button Remapper app thread:

I was considering ordering and replacing digitizer myself, but it's too difficult for me. Guess this oughta be a hardware problem.
I've found a solution to work around it, using SoftKeys app (requires root). It will open up a floating soft keys (home, back etc) to substitute the main ones.
If there's a way to map a trackpad with the "home" function, that'd be best. Can Button Remapper do that, or any other app?

Screen wakes up all the time

Hey there,
I've a big issue for a few months already.
My S4 jflte always wakes up whenever the screen turns off.
I tried to figure out where it's caused by and when I cut off the soft buttons (home/menu/back) and started the phone, the screen didn't wake up anymore.
As far as I know there is no way to repair this w/o damaging the screen itself.
So could I block the buttons from waking up the screen?
As you can see when a app is opened and the screen turns off automatically and turns on again, the home screen appears and puts the app in the background.
youtube(.)com/watch?v=Bhul9UMJ8l4 (I don't have 10 posts yet so I have to post it this way. Sorry)
Could anyone help me? I've been researching for a long time and found no solution.
Says video not found.
Are you on a stock rom?
The Video is working fine for me. Did you copy the whole link and did you remove the brackets? ( )
I'm on AOSP 6.0.1 Kernel 3.4.110-Alucard-PWR-CORE from JDCTeam.
I tried different ROMs so far (including the Stock) and it's definitely a hardware issue.

have you been doing full wipes inbetween roms ? if you have then maybe it's a hardware issue.
Yes, I've always done full wipes. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue. Is there any way to block the keys from waking up the phone? I usually use the power button anyways to wake up the phone.
You can probably disable the keys altogether. Or maybe just the menu and back key, and leave only the home button functional.
There is no way to do it with that rom yet, but you could use Xposed and Gravity Box.
Most apps nowadays offer inbuilt menu and back options anyway.
Before you try to disconnect any buttons, try to clean the phone. That has solved many problems in the past.
Look for disassemble S4 videos on youtube, and for cleaning use a small paintbrush, or a very soft toothbrush, and Isoprophyl Alcohol(70% clean alcohol, 30% pure water), you can buy that in the Apotheke.
Clean the board an all other reachable electronics. Let it dry, reassemble and see if it helped.
Thanks for the tips, but I've already done that before (twice) without success.
I'm looking for a way to disable the keys from waking up the screen. I've tried it with the key configuration files in the system, but it didn't work.
Example: When I press the home button the screen wakes up. I just want to disable the wake up for all buttons except for the power button.
Does anyone know a app for this? Or a mod for xposed?
There is no actual "wake up" function assigned to the back and menu key. Only the home button has one. So there's nothing you can disable, except for the keys altogether. I already suggested you how to do that in the 5th reply to this thread.
I've found a work-around. I disabled the keys with 'Xposed Additions' while the screen is turned off or locked.
Thanks alot for your help guys!
