[Q] Galaxy s4 bricked after OTA failed update - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA community
Iam a longtime lurker here what a great community with a wealth of information.
I have a a grasp of the basic rooting and flashing custom roms/kernels over the past few years on my old galaxy s3.
My partner had an OTA update for her gt9505 galaxy s4 today whicg seemed to hang while updating, unfortunately she pulled the battery mid update
The phone can enter download odin mode but i cant get it to open the recovery. I have flashed (using odin) a few different compatible roms they finish installing via odin but when the phone restarts it just turns off it will not go past the galaxy white and black screen. It will turn off again.
It has never been rooted, i spent many hours trying to get to the OS but it fails when restarting. I decided to flash CF-Auto root hoping to get access to recovery. Again it successfully installs cf auto root and restarts and then turns off.
It seems everything i flash never ever saves to memory.
What else can i try please? iam happy installing a custom rom but i cant get it working. iam afraid its bricked for good without expensive repairs.
thanks

lol i managed to get it working.
It was a combination of dead battery and multiple problem cables not charging the phone.

[Q] Problems rooting and flashing my Galaxy S4

Hi guys. I've rooted and flashed my s2 countless times and never had any problems, but i've now upgraded to my s4 and every time i've tried to flash a rom on it something has gone wrong. The first time i tried flashing fox hound and my 3G wouldn't work. I then tried flashing my backup and ended up bricking my device. After many long hours I managed to get my phone back to factory setting. A few weeks later I tried again with the google edition Kit Kat Rom, but then the play store wouldn't work. So I tried flashing my back up and yet again bricked my device and spent even longer fixing it. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.. I'm doing everything exactly as I'm told. So I thought I would give it one last try. So I've had to root my phone again, but now after I rooted it I'm not getting Superuser, SU or BusyBox... I'm running Root Checker and it;s not coming off the "Checking for root access" display. As you can probably tell I'm not the best when it comes to technology. If there's someone you can help get me on the right track I would be very grateful.
Oh and also, I've been hearing the words (Verizon and AT&T) etc and I don't know what type of phone i Have. All i know is it is an S4

[Q] HELP!!!! note 3 bootloop

Hello everyone,
i am fairly new to the world of rooting and recently encountered a problem while flashing a rom
i have the at&t samsung galaxy note 3 N-900A running 4.3 jellybean (2 year contract expired and i got and used the unlock code)
i rooted the phone using the kingo root app, because i could not update the phone (I recently moved out of the USA so i cant connect to an at&t server to update)
i installed safestrap recovery 3.71 and it was running fine
i found a tutorial from galaxy note 3 root for the knoxraid ro
(put youtube. c o m here) /watch?v=8HDHt4xSnQY
according to the tutorial i had to install the rom over the stock rom file
so i copied the stock rom to rom slot 1
this is where i messed up, i installed the knoxraid rom over the stock rom without wiping/data factory reset first. But it gets worse, i realized i forgot to wipe the data from safestrap so before the install was even halfway completed, i pulled the battery out.
now whenever i turn it on it will go straight to recovery mode
it wont even turn off. i have to pull the battery out.
i can get to download mode and recovery mode but thats it.
im not sure about the build number because it wont boot up
all i can tell you is it is a at&t note 3 running 4.3 jellybean
please help if you can
btw: my computer wont recognize the phone because it says the PHONE does not have the correct drivers installed
however odin still recognizes it with the blue box with 0:[COM6] if that helps
so yeah please help me the phone is fairly new and i dont want to waste $600

Well, this is the wrong forum to begin with.
However, head over here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2703006 , and read very, very carefully.

S4 Fido I337M No Sound No Call No Video! Fixed

There are many threads that focus on this same issue I have run into. I am posting this now because there isn't anything that has been posted this recent. I literally spent three days trying to find a solution.
What I did to mess this up with my S4 I337m Fido phone.
1. Odin install TWRP recovery. This seemed to work fine. I think I had to flash it twice to get it to work but I could boot to recover no problem.
2. CF-Auto Root
This process worked up to the point where you are suppose to reboot the phone and open the Su App and allow it to write permissions. This failed to work. Every time I booted my phone it would lag out and tell me SU app failed to open.
3. Flashed Slim KAT anyway...bad idea but I figured I would follow proper steps and flash. Everything was fine except for WIFI...yes everything seemed to be running smooth except for WIFI. This was obviously unacceptable.
4. Flashed stock ROM for my S4 which I received from a thread and then updated with Kies to obtain fully stock. This by the way is a suggested fix from many threads but this is where the sounds stopped working!!! Yes WIFI was good but SOUND was gone!!! WTF!
5. Flashed like 4 different froms ranging from CM11 to Mokee ROM....Nothing worked.
FIX! So I downloaded my stock rom from Sammobile.
No I flashed this via ODIN and rebooted and then did an update from Kies...This did not work to resolve the ISSUE of No Sound for me! What I had to do to fix this was to do a "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization" in Kies! What this does is ask you for your MODEL# and SERIAL# under your BATTERY. This then gets the firmware specifically for your device from Samsung. This updated my phone to 4.4.2 and everything works better then when I originally got my phone.
Again their are other threads that lay most of this stuff out but the last tweak I did not read and tried out of desperation. I hope this helps at least one person. I will continue to try and root my device because I am crazy like that. I have been an XDA user for 8 years now and enjoy custom ROMS on every android device I have come across. I cracked this S4's screen a month ago and they said warranty was void so to hell with Stock **** lol
I thank the XDA community with all my heart for giving me restless nights of modding fun. I have learned a lot from all of you and appreciate your time.

[Q] Soft-bricked SM-T230NU (what next)....

Its been a few months since Ive bothered trying to figure out how to fix my Galaxy Tab 4, SM-T230NU, but Im finally getting around to fixing it. It sat in my closet for a few months simply because I did not have the time to fix it. It's soft bricked (loads the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 bootscreen, but stays stuck on the single Samsung logo). Its not hard bricked as power turns on, but it is soft-bricked. Will running NE2 I found in the firmware section fix the soft-brick? I just downloaded odin 3.09, and right now NE2 is downloading through Mega.nz......any help would be appreciated....

Flash the right firmware for your device and see if it boots. If it doesn't boot within 20minutes after flashing, simply reboot into recovery and factory reset.

When I rooted the device, gaining root on the 230NU was abit of work, so I had to go through a lot of in and out holes just to root the sucker, and then a week or two later there are many different ROMs available for the 230NU...I'm shocked that someone finally found a workaround for the marvel processor in the 230NU because the 8 I believe has a snapdragon and/or euronoyx (however you spell it)

Tracfone SM-S902L: Bad ROM flashes, need to recover stock ROM

Hello all,
I recently discovered that my S5 was only running KitKat despite Marshmallow having been released for it. I checked for OTA updates and it found nothing, so I decided to flash a custom 6.0 ROM onto it (and for some reason I ended up deciding not to make a backup of the phone beforehand, the ultimate mistake).
The problem became that it didn't recognize Tracfone for my service provider and wouldn't connect to the mobile network. I then downgraded it to a 5.0 ROM, and it no longer even recognized the SIM card, saying there was none.
So I tried to flash the original stock ROM a few times, but every time either got errors from ODIN, the phone itself, or the TWRP bootloader.
Long story short, I seem to have screwed up multiple times trying to install a ROM to get around KitKat and now my phone appears to be softbricked. I can get into the TWRP menu and the "download" mode, but when trying to start the phone, it sits on the "Samsung Galaxy S5" screen with the "Set Warrenty Bit : kernel" text at the top left.
I'm just wondering if there's a way to fix it at this point, or if I've completely trashed the phone.
If anybody has suggestions or experience with this, all help is welcome!
Thanks!

Are you sure you have the stock firmware for the 902l and not the 903vl? The reason you didn't get the update for 6.0 is you have the 902l model. If you had the 903vl model you'd have 6.0. Straight talk never released it for the 902l model. No idea why being both models are very similar. Im not sure but if you make it back to stock on kitkat. I think you can use safestrap from the Verizon s5 to use some custom roms that run kitkat. If your bootloader is in fact unlocked and you can install a custom recovery other then safestrap. I believe you can install pretty much anything but I'm pretty sure straight talk ships the phones with the Toshiba chip so the bootloader isn't unlockable
