[Q] Need some help for S Note w/ math formula recognition - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. This is my first post. I apologize if these questions have been answered before, but I find your forums a little difficult to decipher. Lots of esoteric abbreviations.
Anyhow. I was recently given a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 tablet from T-Mobile. It has Android 4.4.4 (SM-T337T) and I was disappointed to find out that I don't have the S Note app. Where do I find beginner instructions for installing it? And I'd like it to be the one which can convert handrwitten math formulas into pretty form. MyScript has an amazing app which converts formulas as well as produces their LaTeX code, but it's only available for iOS devices.
Secondly, and this is optional, I'd like to put Android Lollipop on it, because it has fun new functionality.
Thank you in advance for your thoughtful and tasteful comments.

I'm working on grabbing you the S Note app file, hold tight (or google S Note apk file). Idk about the math formulas thing, you might want to ask in the Tab 4 Themes and Apps Section.
Lollipop hasn't been officially released for any Tab 4 variants yet. There are a few lollipop custom roms (i.e. Cyanogenmod 12) for a couple of the Tab 4 models, but I'm almost positive that none are compatible with your tablet model. And yes the roms can only be designed for specific models (for the most part).

Samsung Moment forum needed

Within the past week I migrated from the ROM-crazy Touch Pro to a Samsung Moment, and I'm disappointed to find that while XDA has a thriving Android community, there's barely a mention of the Moment. This is perplexing, as the Moment seems to be a very strong device.
I have found the SDX website and appreciate the good work going on over there, but it's a pretty small (though talented!) community. I would expect the Moment to gain more of a following if it were to get more exposure. Is there a reason XDA does not have a forum for this device? How would one go about requesting a new forum?
being a Moment and a CDMA Hero User i was wondering the same thing. :\

This is a HTC device forum so no wonder the SAMSUNG Moment doesn't have its own forum. You can post things about the Moment in the Android Software Development section though.
I considered that, but then I noticed the Samsung Omnia and various Palm, Toshiba, and LG devices had XDA forums.

No love for the Moment And I have one too
Reason would be because the XDA dev's would be pretty worthless (not an attack on them, just a statement of the following fact) at modifying and developing specific for the samsung moment. It utilizies different hardware and software that isn't found on any other android device (bits and pieces are found on other samsung devices only)... For example, the samsung moment utilizes a ONEnand chip and RFS (a samsung propritary) file system...

I heard a mod said that those devices parts were made by htc and the phone was put together by htc. kinda like the nexus one thing.
Samsung Mobile and Sprint announced today that the Samsung Moment has been selected as the first phone to showcase a demonstration of a Mobile Digital TV chip.
Samsung and its Moment may not be mainstream like Motorola but I like the Moment and can't wait for the 2.1 update coming in late March or April. Should make it a better device with the improvements. At least that's the theory...
there is a forum for moment. i had it in my bookmarks but i had to do a reinstall on my comp so im searching for it again atm cuz i didnt save bookmarks.
Sadly the admins don't have time to read every thread in this forum... so it might be a better idea mentioning this in the following thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616206
This is monitored by the admins.

Indeed.. I already posted a request for the Galaxy(S) and the Spica in the request forum. If you want others, just go post your demand in following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616206
There is already a forum for Samsung (Android) devices.
Most Samsung users go to the SDX forum as XDA is an HTC Dev forum. I'd recommend checking there, first, as they have done A LOT in the way of development/modding/hacking/theming for the Moment.
The structure of the information provided in the guides can be a little hard to follow at first, but the guides are rather good. ROM/Update flashing is (often too) simple and the rooting process is automated in update.zip format, now.

Personally, as a Moment user, I utilize both XDA and SDX, as great info can be found in both forums.

Does the galaxy tab have...

Does this forum have a sleepless ninja?
Let me explain: I am currently looking to buy a tablet for college and I am looking to get the most out of my tablet for my studies, for enjoyment and for understanding in this technological realm. Now, to me it is between the Xoom and the Galaxy Tab 10.1, and all signs point to the tab. Better screen, lighter, thinner, newer, faster etc. etc. (even the disadvantages, HDMI/USB/SD Card don't bother me as I don't really use any of that) But the Xoom has that one intangible, sleepless ninja. He shows xoom owners how to do this, how to do that and I just think the advantage of having a walk through is so high on my list that it might out weight a lot of the advantages the Tab has. Its this guy that is keeping me drawn to the Xoom, so I ask you either A) Does this forum/ community have a dedicated man like this? or B) Does anyone know if one is coming or if I did decide to get a tab would one be liked?
Yes it is a noob-friendly thing but, we were all noobs once right?
At the moment the GT10.1 is running stock version of Honeycomb, stock being the "pure" OS form no 2nd company has added anything or altered the software, this is important to know. This being said the stock version does not have "guides" or a "sleepless ninja", it will however guide you through the initial process of signing in to your accounts like Google or push email accounts.
With this being addressed Samsung does have a "layer" that goes over the "stock" Android OS and this is called Touchwiz. Samsung has not implemented this yet for their own reasons but has recently announced that it is coming "soon" as a download update. This Touchwiz may have your "secret ninjas". Touchwiz being their own creation may have "ninjas" to help explain and show all the new "bells" and "whistles" and abilities that Touchwiz will be able to do. Unfortunately like I said before Samsung has announced that is will be coming soon so till then it is the stock non "ninja" OS.
On a personal note I find the stock Honeycomb Android very intuitive and practical.( so much so that I cannot wait for the Touchwiz version ) Also I find the exploration to be half the fun Also there are TONS of websites that help you discover anything you need to know about Android on the webz and of course here in XDA. Although many do get a bit .....annoyed....some times with repeat questions someone will most usually scrape some patience and help you out, I will say to use the search option most generously though I have had my GT10.1 for over a week now and love it I am by no means a wiz but thanks to many here I am "Sleepless Ninja" free! Good luck with your choice and have fun learning.

I do agree that the search feature needs to be used and I did. Now, I thank you for your response BUT if you had read my post you might have seen the link to sleepless ninjas website. Sleepless Ninja is a real physical person, sleeplessninja.com. The Xoom doesn't have a "sleepless ninja" embedded either, what it has is a man dedicated to trying to help out the community, with tutorials, video how-tos and so on. I was wondering if the Tab community has that same type of person or group of people who go out of their way to help the community. I am a visual learner and so videos are something I enjoy seeing as I think they help. If this is what someone here has I would love to see it.

I don't really see the point of this "real physical person" online. We have tons of threads dedicated to helping newbie and seriously though, most of what's applied to the XOOM will also work on the Tab as they both run stock-enough HC.
But if you can't be bothered to do a little googling/searching, maybe the XOOM and sleeplessninja are best for you.

More than anything else it is the videos that I like. I remember and understand things when I see them performed and videos to me give me that edge to be confident and know enough about what I am doing to actually jump for it.
Now,that being said the preponderance of threads, guides, walkthtoughs and the like here leaves little to be desired but curiosity did get me and, for the most part, the helpful nature of the people in this forum has shined through.
@OP
If you're buying a tab based on the degree of handholding available, the iPad is the best bet currently. Ideology aside, it has the best ecosystem, the best stable of apps, and the best peer-support, if based on size of userbase alone.
I understand, though, that ideology, or at least philosophical outlook, is pretty important. It's why XDA exists, after all, else we'd all be nibbling at S. Job's toes by now.
Then, on the issue of "durability" of peer support, none of the current Android (or RIM, or TouchPad) is a good buy. Reason is that part of the first wave of 'droid tabs have yet to show. And after that, there'll be yet a second wave of tabs before the year is out (hopefully outfitted with ICS). In short, there will be a deluge of tabs, each of which will have its little pool of users, and all of which will have very short lives. Does not bode well for that elusive "Sleepless Ninja" to pop into existence.
These, as compared to one big homogenous iPad collective. If your field is statistics, there's no contest.
But perhaps you favor fictional literature, where we can be the few Merry Men against the iHorde innumerable. Oops, getting my 'phores mixed with my phives here.. Anyway, there is an advantage to be a big frog in a small pond. Indeed, it can be YOU in that most epic '84 Apple commercial, taking a mighty swing against the faceless collective!
Yes, I hear you say, "Let me be the one, the Sleepless Ninja, the Hammer of Justice!" And I say, go forth, and make your mark! And we all say, yay, for our Sleepless Ninja is nigh!
Cheers for the OP, our new Sleepless Ninja! Here's a Thank to get you on your way. Now, get the hell to work, and let me know pronto when that custom ROM is done!

Asking Someone to Create a Jellybean ROM for Note 10.1

As you know, Jellybean has released worldwide. Now there are marked differences between the leaked version (slightly more features although more buggy) and the official release.
I'd like someone to develop one which incorporates some of the features left out of the official release and more. I realise the gravity of this request and it will require the skill of some of the best developers here.
The features I'd like are as follows:
The stock Touchwiz Jellybean etc with the addition of;
The ability to do split screen for third party apps, screen recording (with the option of including voice), flash, ability to rearrange mini apps to fit as 3 or 4 windows layout on a single screen see 3:27 on kingdenzel92's youtube video "Galaxy Note 10.1 (N8000) Jelly Bean Leak In-Depth Review N8000DDALI1". Youtube being incorporated into the video player so this can be moved around (this was in the Jellybean leak), make sure the switch is there which allows you to change between eraser in S-Note.
No messing around with other stock apps, or changing themes please.
Only the greatest of developers can achieve this task.
Thanks,
NASSAfellow.

I'd like someone to give me a million dollars... will it happen? Hell no.. I don't get people. If you want something and its not be offered by the community then learn to do it yourself and stop expecting everyone to do things for you. If you don't know how then do like the rest of us do and learn on your own. People need to take initiative instead of expecting to be spoon fed everything.

It should also turn my stylus into a magic wand and my stereo speakers into 5.1 surround sound. Lets also not forget that it must turn my capacitive screen into a solar panel to sustain itself indefinitely without worrying about running out of battery power.

I have no idea why you guys are so cynical.
This guy has given great ideas to create a great rom.
Yes, it requires a lot of skill and time to accomplish such thing, what doesn't? But it's not impossible, and it would be freakin' awesome.
Currently all i see in our development section are same roms with same functionality, just with different themes.(except CM of course)
There is no way i'm switching from stock, because there is nothing better, but if what he describes existed...
The real Joke is that stock 8013 is still ICS.

There's nothing wrong with a "please build me a ROM" request as such, however I wouldn't expect anyone to pickup the gauntlet from a random post in the general section.
You'd be far better off installing one of the current crop of JB ROMS and then making specific requests in that thread, you may find that some of the current crop have most of the features you require anyway.

No one said they weren't good ideas (or bad ones) The problem is this is a development community. It's not a ROM requesting forum. This forum was created for DEVELOPERS to come share ideas, mods, etc.. It was not created to serve the end user. It was not created for people to come requesting things. It is here for people who want to LEARN to make their devices better.. Not expect/request people to do it for them. I knew NOTHING about android 2 years ago and if I had this mentality I would still be a noob that didn't know anything but yet expected others to do it for me. If people are constantly spoon fed things then why should they learn? There are guys that have been using android a lot longer time than me yet I know tons more then they do.. Why? Because I read, I learned, I put in my time. I didn't just go around requesting whatever I wanted. If there was something I wanted and it was not offered by the community I LEARNED how to do it myself and this community gave me the knowledge to learn on my own.

Actually you're wrong. It's very wrong to come to a development community and ask people to do things for you. Now if the OP actually wanted to learn something instead of being spoon fed, then there is nothing wrong with that. But to come to a development community where devs work for free and be like "I want someone to build me a rom that does A, B and C, now someone build it for me" Is just bad form and bad taste. If you want something that the community doesn't offer LEARN to do it yourself instead of imposing on others to do it for you
Too true graffixnyc and one of the reasons I stopped releasing roms on xda a while ago .
Too many people demanding ****e without any respect for the sheer amount of effort involved by people donating their spare time.
I always have been keen to encourage and support others to learn, but some people think that they don't need to contribute other than through criticism.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Basically what people are possibly trying to say is that, xda is a community of developers who share their work amongst us little people, not Burger King where you can have it your way.
Point, requesting a new feature in a ROM for a Dev you support is one thing, but this thread is no good.

The guy said just the idea to see if someone could create it but yes that ain't gon happen but put a 100$ bounty then devs will make it happen lol money talks!

The Dev section is for development. There's nothing wrong with making a request for something you can't do yourself. He's not demanding anything. If your not talented enough to do it let alone try you shouldn't even be responding to this thread

[Q] Is it possible to dual-boot any custom ROMs on the Note 4?

Hi guys,
I have been looking around for options to dual-boot on my Galaxy Note 4 SM-N910F. I have not been able to find anything... All of the options stop at the Galaxy Note 3.
I have looked around on the Google Play Store and the apps that allow you to dual-boot are the apps that don't support the Galaxy Note 4 or Samsung devices at all.
Has anyone found anything, or can anyone find anything on this subject? I'm not bricking my device as a guinea pig to see if any existing method works. A lot of effort replacing my phone through insurance and putting everything back on.
Ask here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447534 this is for SG4 but also works on N3. Maybe it will work also on N4.

Thank you for your response quick response... Whilst this does answer most of the questions I do not think that there any any custom kernels for the Galaxy Note 4 that support the dual-boot function as of yet. I will have a quick look, followed by a more thorough look followed by a head-butting of my keyboard.
Thanks!

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 (SM-T230/SM-T230NU) ROM Development (Help Needed)

Dear owners of the 2014 degas/wifi tablets, a team is forming to help make your old device run like new again. We unfortunately may not be able to guarantee an Android version upgrade but a performance upgrade instead. Now, as of the last year or so, there has been a group (Will not be named for reasons) claiming they have been creating ROMs for the device that are new editions of Android or similar to the newer versions. I’m here to say that they have been deceiving you the entire time. But this forthcoming team will not do so and will give the 4-year-old tab some love like it needed a long time ago.
Though, unfortunately, the team being assembled only has two members at the moment. We are in need of more experienced/inexperienced people to help develop this upcoming ROM/s. Though, if this isn’t your thing but you have a tab to help with testing, that would be an excellent help to us as well.
Some criteria for people applying is:
+ You own or have a SM-T230/NU tablet that you will have for the entirety of your assistance
+ You have your own PC to help develop (Or if testing, have a PC to flash the ROMs onto your device)
+ When developing, the latest version of Xubuntu (18.04, Bionic Beaver) is highly recommended to install in order to help us. (If you have any questions if your PC specs are good enough for development, please message me.)
+ You have a Discord or are willing to create one in order to communicate with us. (XDA doesn’t have voice chat and would be too slow for this kind of development)
We will be actually developing ROMs/mods for this tablet. Not taking others work and making slight adjustments and then claiming it to be ours! That is stealing and that is not what our group is about. If you have any questions about anything in this post, please comment below or message me.
I've tab for testing, but unfortunately that is where my skills end.
That’s alright!
Please message me privately so I can set you up with helping us further with this.
Moderator Edit:
All "discussions" must be kept on XDA and in public - collaboration happens here.. Or use our Discord Channel...
Thanks
I own a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 inch SM-T230NU and can help with testing ROMs or whatever you need. I can help just let me know...
I have Samsung tab 4 Sm-t239 I want to install marshmallow.....presently tab is having android kit kat 4.4.4.....can anybody help
Thanks in advance
So do I
I have a SM-T230 so I can help with testing, I'm pretty inexperienced but I can help a bit
I also have SM-T230, I would really like to have Android 5 on it so I can help
Is this development still ongoing? I would like to join the team. Is the discord still around?
