Bad drop and not a scratch - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo General

No matter how careful you are, accidents always happen.. My Moto maxx just took its first drop onto concrete floor from 1.5 meters onto the screen. It jumped with the impact and flipped around itself for 3 times. I thought it wouldn't survive such a bad fall. It was worth to be filmed in slow motion. I was ready to accept it was cracked. Luckily not even a scratch on glass or smallest of dent in housing. This phone is a tank. :good:

Its a Motorola phone. That's the reason it didn't break. My dad dropped a DROID RAZR HD into a car mother and it kept banging around and it slammed very hard onto the ground and the phone was still fine.

For every good outcome, there's a bad one.
I dropped my turbo face down on concrete and it shattered. Had to have Motorola replace it.

Don't know that it matters, but it was the Best Buy Blue Ballistic Nylon model. Motorola didn't have any of those, so I had to take the regular black nylon one.

Funny thing is I have the Best Buy Blue. If I waited I could have gotten the Nexus 6 or Sapphire Blue. I dropped my TURBO and nothing happened.

My red Droid Turbo dropped face down onto gravel 2 days ago and shattered the glass. Will have to return it to stock image before I return it. Replacement should arrive Wed. It was in an Encased case, which does fine to protect the corners and back but only has a very minimal lip above the screen. Gravel seems to be gorilla glass' worst nightmare. A couple of years ago my wife smashed her Droid Razr screen the same way (face down onto gravel). Hers was even in a case similar to an otterbox that had a large lip around the screen. The uneven surface and raised points of gravel seem to be the issue.
It is the metalized carbon fiber version. Not really fond of how easily the casing gets damaged. Before I got the Encased case, just a short drop from my windshield phone mount onto certain parts of the car has resulted in numerous damage including a deep nick in one corner, a couple of small dents around the screen by the volume rocker, and a 2mm section near another corner where the outer paint chipped off.

SII Cracked screen

Well, my screen is cracked, and im kinda pissed....The phone was in a case with the ''gorilla glass" facing my lap, then a friend of mine pushed me into a pole softly and crack, a massive crack, dead pixels, unresponsive screen, and now after a nights sleep the whole screen is blue and you can barely see that its on...

Maybe yours is. I have it now for 3 months. No protection, always in the pocket or on the table or wherever, but no scratch. Quite different from my previous Omnia 2, with a few big scratches after 2 weeks. Perhaps a diamond screen would be good for you.

What sort of pole were you pushed into?
If the pressure was dissipated over the whole screen surface - i.e., trapped between pole and your thigh - it'd seem to be the optimal condition to crack it, unfortunately.
My wife broke a PMP with Gorilla glass by sitting on an office chair with PMP in pocket... and her ass ain't big.

Lol, just a small one as big as say.. a leg, yes, it was dissipated, that why it broke i think. Well its off to samsung now, and im looking at a 140-150 euro bill. (well my mate is)
That would do it... Gorilla glass or not, there'll be a certain pressure which the screen can't take.
Good to see a phone with even more scratches on the "silver" than mine, btw

It's a phone. Contrary to what many people here seem to think, it's neither a fashion accessory nor a status symbol.

No Gapgate here...

Just got my Verizon Note 4 today and there was no "gapgate" issue with my phone.
Anybody else get their phone with the gap?
Edit: Mine was a White Pre-Order from Verizon.
I got one for myself and my wife. The one that arrived from Verizon in the mail had a slight gap. The one I purchased from the Verizon store was perfect.
Gap gate?

Mine has a pretty good gap on the top side of the device. Dust keeps getting on there and building up. Not sure if I should return it before the 14 days is up.
No gap but mine has some small scratches on the screen hardly noticeable but upsets me because its brand-new. Not worth returning though

No gap. Black.
I forgot to mention that mine was one of the White pre-orders from Verizon.
My Black Pre-order had a pretty substantial gap on the top as well as a nice sized gash on the inner portion of the aluminum border where the gap is located. VZW is sending me a new device. I hope that this one doesn't have the same issue.

Did VZW give you any issues. My 4 came with chip near the headphone jack. And they are giving me all sorts of troubles. They told me they could send me a new one but they'd have to charge me the Retail price and then once they receive the old phone they'll refund it. According to them "We can't tell when the chip happened" even though I called less than 24 hours after receiving the phone

That just makes me cringe.
When I ordered it from sprint they told me it was gonna be 1 to 3 weeks for the phone to get there that's why I didn't order a case sooner but the phone came in within 3 days.
One drop, about 3.5 feet....
Ouch! This phone is very slippery in dry cool weather and if your skin is dry. A little moisture and hand locks on like a magnet. Regardless, I'm looking forward to my case as I cling on to my N6 with a "kung fu grip" until it arrives
I've had mine slip out of my shirt pocket two times on to a hard tile floor. It landed screen down both times. It's in a spigen slim armor case and there was no damage.

Every new phone I decide I am going to try no case...then I come across one of these threads. Thanks, guess I am going to go check it the accessories threads now.
One benefit of being backordered is that my case came first.
Thing I love most about following new phones on XDA... Is the people that drop then within the first week. Do you guys have hands made out of butter?
Yikes. I bet quite a few people already have broken nexus 6's. Which would suck so bad.
Mine yesterday slipped out of my shirt pocket and landed on my foot. I was only getting up from my couch and the ground is soft anyway, along with my foot, so nothing at all happened.
Not gonna be putting it in this shirt pocket again. It's too big for the pocket haha

It's funny, i was thinking the same thing earlier today. But I was expecting to see a bunch of "Google screwed us with a cheap screen. Only cheap glass breaks like this. Be very careful with the phone.. or get a good case.

Well.. I've had the phone for less than 3 full days and already cracked the rear glass. Good thing I have insurance.. but it seems s7 is extremely fragile.
Phone dropped out of my pocket while sitting down. About 1 and 1/2 foot drop and hit the corner.. already cracked..

someone reported the same thing less than an hour after getting it. I feel they could have designed around that a bit better. Tempered glass always does terrible in corners. A couple of MM extra metal at the corners could probably save a bunch of phones.
Understandable. I have this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B1I6J0E?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00 and I'm worried it's not gonna be enough for this phone. Already have two different ones on order.

i've got the rugged armor and it seems it should be fine, so i assume this would be ok too
This happens EVERY time a new phone is released. If anyone doesn't believe me, just go look at the other phones and you will see the same warnings when they were released. ALL of these kinds of phones are fragile to a certain degree. Anyone going without a good case is taking extra risk. Even a good case is no guarantee. Think of it this way, would you carry a laptop around without protection, drop it, and expect it not to eventually get damaged? When the next iPhone or S8 is released next year, other threads like this will show up early after their releases. If you drop it 2 inches or 2 feet...there is always a chance there will be damage. I don't think anyone drops it on purpose. That being the situation, I would think it would be a good move to put it in a case and at least improve the odds from the beginning.
I feel how it hurts. Can you post pics?
Mind you I have never broken a phone this early. And I've had lots phones without cases. Notably note4, LG g2, g3, gs3. All which I dropped many times.
I'll post pictures soon.

It's really not any more serious than chipping the paint or faux chrome on the edge bezels of previous Galaxy devices. I've owned the S3, S4 and S4 Mini. They look terrible after a year, even if you don't drop them. The S4 Mini is now over 2 years old and it's edge bezels look like the surface of the moon, and it's not from dropping it. That won't happen with the current generation of Galaxy devices.
At least the glass back on an S6 or S7 can be replaced to look like new. The edge bezels are part of the chassis. So, yeah, I'm fine with metal and glass.
i dropped my Xperia Z3 Compact a couple of times while standing, couple times onto wood floor, couple times onto tile. Never even scratched. Dropped it one day while at the pool onto this sort of uneven stone/sandstone kinda stuff from literally 2 or 3 INCHES, completely shattered the front glass. I mean total spiderweb destruction.
If just depends how you drop it and onto what surface.
Isn't it just bad luck either? I mean, I recently dropped my S6 and it also broke the glass (in the sense that the glass plate let loose and can now get dust under it). This was an innocent drop and it had falled quite a few times before already (before I was used to the slippery back of the thing) without any issues.
I've seen phones survive the most insane stuff only to get beaten by the bad luck of exactly hitting that part of the corner after a small drop.
Still sucks bigtime of course...
Lot of what's said is true. I still wonder how the waterproofing would be after repair.. of if the waterproofing would be OK with cracked glass.
I'm thinking the rear glass has no effect on the IP68 rating, when looking at the gs6 rear glass replacement video.

Camera glass too fragile

I read somewhere this morning that V20 camera glass is easily broken, even without dropping or very extreme force. Anyone experienced this problem?

Yep gotta be something. Throwing on a Dbrand on top of existing protector. Hopefully someone will make a tempered glass protector for it.
I barely realized there was plastic on top of it. I ordered full body matte from dbrand so that'll take care of it too.

One guy left his flashlight on for 30 minutes, got his lense hot and the lense cracked.
Another guy got his new phone, took it out of box, looked at lense 5 hours later and claimed it magically cracked. Who knows what happened or what he did.
Then that YouTube scratch test guy tested the lense for scratches, he ran a sharp blade across it and watched it crack within seconds.
Now the entire Internet is in a panic over the V20 lense. Mainly reddit drama

There's already a few threads covering this.
This same conversation happened with the g5 also. Mine broke after about a couple months or so. The replacements were (are) on ebay for a few dollars. It's very easy to replace, just pick it off with a small screw driver or tweezers and the new ones come with adhesive tape applied, just press it into place.

If what people say is true though and the pieces are just a couple of dollars on ebay, it won't be that big of a deal anyway.

Just run your fingers along the camera area, if you can feel the two camera hole is recessed, you have a protector.
Someone with a v20 leave the flash on for 30 minutes and lets test the glass! Might as well do it now while your in your return period!
