[Q] Does anybody else have this camera issue? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Before I begin: I have spent all afternoon and night researching and testing so I have put in a fair amount of my own effort prior to posting this.
I have also posted this same text on the Cyanogenmod Googlge+ page.
No matter what settings I use (resolution, frame rate), my videos always show approximately 30 fps when imported into Adobe Premiere (screenshot attached).
I have tried these various camera apps:
Google Camera, Cinema FV-5, A Better Camera, Focal, Open Camera, IGcamera
I have an SM-N9005
My version of CyanogenMod is: 12-20150319-NIGHTLY-hlte
When I play the recorded videos back they play at normal speed (as you would expect from ~30 fps video).
I tested my Mums Note 3 using her stock camera app (her Note 3 is 4.3 Jelly Bean still) and it worked perfectly when I chose slow motion in the video options it recorded at my selected speed (1/2, 1/4, 1/8) and played back at that recorded speed.
I am aware there is resolution loss but that is not my concern at the moment, I want to first establish slow motion recording.
Here is an example of the stock camera app on my Mums phone: youtube/watch?v=hD84oLB3wYE

Camera <-> Camcorder Zoom Weirdness

Going to try to explain this... When I'm using the stock Camera app, the picture is normal. But when I switch to Camcorder, it seems to be automatically zoomed in quite a bit. And when I try to zoom out, it says that since I'm recording in HD, zoom functions are not available.
This is kind of annoying because now I have to step back probably 5 feet to fill the same frame of when I was taking photos.
Is this normal for everyone else too? Or do I have some weird glitch on my unrooted and pure stock ROM?
Yep, mine does it too (stock rom). It only does that in FullHD resolution. I guess the only use middle part of the sensor to read the data to achieve greater speeds, and thus it's gonna be a hardware limitation.
Who need HD anyway ? The lens hardly catch with it. I record 720x480 and I'm very pleased with teh quality.
Change the video recording resolution in the settings pane to 1280x720 and that should fix your problem.

Yeah I noticed that.
But that doesn't make sense. In photo mode, same resolution as video mode but in video mode it's zoomed in. Like Dr. Sid said, it seems that it uses a smaller section of the image sensor to capture video. Which again doesn't make sense. Weird.
This is definetly a speed optimization - scaling down the whole resolution of camera sensor from 3264*2448 -> 1080p is much more expensive operation than just cropping the central pixels, i assume someone at samsung was VERY lazy to have done the camcorder mode in such a lame way, it's still ok for recording outside scenes but useless for in-room recording.
I find this quite annoying also. At first I was wondering if it is a ROM glitch or something, since some of the people here stated that even in stock ROM it is present also.
I hope there is some kind of patch to this, full HD recording is really awesome and I hate to see the 'zoomed' effect.
Yeah noticed the same thing just last night.. Seems to also affect the camera's ability to focus properly in video capture mode as well... Shame on them, I wish I had noticed this sooner.

[Q] Can't playback slow-motion videos

Hello,
My note 4 is a beauty and we are getting married in March. However, there is no such thing as perfect partner.
I used to be able to record slow motion videos and play them back with Gallery app. About a month a go I went to show my friend some videos I have recorded, but all it shows is a black screen. Playback controls are there, it looks like video is rolling but all I see is darkness. I can still record new videos and see previews for old ones.
I've tried clearing gallery cache and data. No result
Running stock 4.4.4.

at full resolution video longer than about one minute make camera app unresponsive

Hi,
I'm using the Zuk Z1 with LineageOS 14.1 with the stock camera app, and when I tried to record a full resolution video everything works fine if the video is relatively short (under 1 minute), but if I make longer videos the camera app becomes unresponsive and doesn't save the video at all (or makes a file that the gallery app doesn't recognize).
A friend of mine with the same phone and the same OS has the same issue even with different apps (opencamera)... is it a known issue? Are there any workaroung/solutions?
thanks

Google photos supports motion photos taken on Note 9 running 9.X unlimited storage

So after i updated note 9 to Pie last week, I noticed pictures I'm taking with motion photos on are now backed up in google photos even when they are uploaded as (High Quality - unlimited storage). did anyone notice this? Also i noticed that the motion photo fails to play and can't even download them. will try to share the picture today.
I just checked mine and indeed they are being backed up and it shows the motion option. Mine are like yours and will not play. It does allow me to save to device but even then it will not play the motion.
I'm using S9 with the same problem. Just upgraded my device to Pie 1 month ago.
I found debate in one of google forums , and there was comments that ''motion photo'' works only with photos taken with Google Camera with Motion Photo option turned on.
Motion Photos taken from S8 works fine.
I am using Galaxy S8. I have noticed that after Android PIE update recently, the photos taken from Samsung Camera app were backed up on Google Photos (in High Quality-Unlimited mode). When viewed on Google Photos the photo automatically starts playing Motion Video. It works perfectly fine for me. Also Google Photos has added option to "Select Shots" and adjust the pic according to chosen frame.

Possible to record 1080p at 60fps?

I recently found out that the videos I'd thought I was recording (through a GCam port) at 60fps weren't even hitting 25fps. I was using a Pie-based ROM (Validus) at the time, and since all the GCam ports have been focused on Android 10 for a while, I went ahead and flashed crdroid 6.9 along with a fairly minimal opengapps install.
On crdroid, trcamera again only hits 25fps when selecting 60fps. Same story with Open Camera under default settings. But when I switched the camera API from "original" to "Camera2," two things happened:
1. The max resolution I could set for video was now 720p
2. Videos I told it to record at 60fps would actually get captured at 76fps
So has anyone had any luck recording at 1080p/60fps on Potter (using any ROM / any app / any settings)?
