Just a couple of fixes for cm12s (exchange, shutter sound, snapchat fc) - ONE General

Hey guys, just wanted to post a couple of fixes for some issues I had with CM12S YNG1TAS17L in case anyone else got the problems
All these fixes need root
Exchange:
I need to put in a domain and server but the app that was preinstalled (boxer email) had no input for domain so I could not connect to the exchange server so I got some apk's from another lollipop rom (the standard lollipop android email apk and the exchange apk) and popped it into /system/app where i made a folder for each apk (named the folder the same as the apk) and changed permissions on both the folders and the apks (folder is rwxr-xr-r or 0755 and apk is rw-r--r-- or 0644) by using root browser and then i restarted and now I got exchange working
Shutter sound:
So i live in Denmark where the law requires you to have a camera shutter sound on your camera but I have my reasons for not having that sound on my camera (no it's not pervy stuff ) so i googled a bit and as I thought you can just delete/rename the file that has the sound and it is located here:
"/system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg" and there is also camera_focus.ogg (can be done by using root browser)
Snapchat fc:
So my snapchat was shutting down when ever I was taking a picture and i discovered that for me it was caused by "snapchat full caption" so I just had to delete that and now i got that working
Hope this helps someone I attached the email and exchange apk but you have to change the permission yourself
-Hapse

For setting up exchange email on the boxer app, you input the domain in the username field. The format is domain\username. I have my exchange email setup on the boxer app and working without any issues.

I may sound stupid, but I always asked myself why those, who do not want a shutter sound, don't just turn down the volume?

what have to do for google mail then.. for domain\username..

HTC Mail on 2.3.3

Hi All
Anyone else got this problem
I updated yesterday to 2.3, and now I'm having problem with the htc mail with Hotmail account as a Exchange sync.
Fist off all it won't download any of my past emails, even when i change the option to 30 days or 3 days etc..
Secondly every time i read an email for delete one and it does a refresh it pull all the emails down again thinking its a new set-up, so it doesn't mark the emails on the server.
Anyone know of any fix for this?
Nik
Hotmail never worked for me using HTC Mail App. I use touchdown now.. much better, but you gotta pay for it
I have the same issue as you describe, would believe it is consistent on all 2.3.3 DHD devices.
Exchange (via HTC mail) on froyo did not work with the Hotmail server, and it seems they still haven't got it working as it should with 2.3.3 either.
Does anyone know where i can get the Android Mail apk for 2.3.3
I tried looking for it on 4shared but with no luck. I downloaded "Enhanced Email" from the market and it works exactly the same way!

Is the Mail apk (I assume you mean the default email app on nexus s) the same as "improved email" app? it's free from marketplace and I use it everyday with @hotmail, @msn, and @live account. All exchanges work just great (you must know you need to use server: "m.hotmail.com" in exchange settings right?).
So I think there is no need to use mail apk app or the HTC one, "improved email" is just good.

Downloaded it, b ut it won't install, i also do have unknown sources ticked.
Hi,
I found I had the same problem with the HTC email app when I upgraded to a Gingerbread ROM.
The only way I was able to resolve the issue was to delete all five accounts then manually add each account again (three IMAP gmail, two POP hotmail).
Everything has worked since then (although I don't like how the unread count now relates to since you last used the app rather than actual amount of unread messages).
Hope this helps.
p.s. good to see another LFC fan. With King Kenny at the helm and Suarez buzzing, we've got a good chance of getting back in the Champions League next year - all we need is a top left back and good wingers.
I am expericencing this issue also but on my HTC Evo. Ive tried everything i can think of and nothing. No one has a fix yet? Do I need to install a different email app???
still searching for a link to download the APK :S

Google Calendar

I hope someone can help me. I've rooted, added Gapps without a problem. I just can't get my Google Contacts to show up.
Is there anyway you do this. I have tried a few Contact.apks to no avail. I've set permissions.
What do you all think?
Thank you,
John
You don't seem to be able to use the Google Contacts app, it doesn't work because it has phone hooks that aren't available on the KF (unless there is a tablet specific version which I haven't seen). You'll need to use the built in Contacts app, which will sync fine with Google if you have the sync adapter.
Here is the version I ripped off my phone - GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk, drop this in /system/app, and set the permissions to rw-r--r--
You are my hero. . . for today. Unless CM7 comes out today.
If you have an Android phone, there are a lot of files you can test out in your KF. I moved a couple files from my Droid 3 to the KF to increase functionality. Including the CalendarSyncService.
Slightly off topic but does anybody know what files handle the "Add shortcut" option in the CarDock? I tried a couple of the Application... files but none worked. Thanks!
One other thing to mention that I've found a fix for is that as well as syncing just "My Contacts", it also syncs "Other Contacts" as well. Other contacts are people you've sent emails to that aren't necessarily in your contacts list already. I just didn't care to see these on my KF, so there is a two step process for getting rid of them if you so desire.
1. Tick and then delete all the "Other Contacts" via the Gmail web interface, making sure that any of the ones you need to keep are created in "My Contacts".
2. In Mail Settings under the General tab there is a setting called "Create contacts for auto-complete". Set this to "I'll add contacts myself".
This should clear the Kindle Fire (assuming you have added the sync apk mentioned above) of the rouge contacts and ensure that any new ones don't get a Contact added under "Other Contacts".
Has anyone gotten this working for the Google Calendar app?
There was some sort of Amazon Calendar.apk and CalendarProvider.apk in the system app folder but I overwrote those with the Google ones from my phone. Maybe I need those original files to get it to work? Can anyone pull them from their system/app folder and upload a copy?

Yup, it's working perfectly. Grab the two .apk's from this post and follow the instructions.
Did you rename the google .apks, or just chose to replace the existing Amazon ones when tyring to install? Sorry, I would pull the original Amazon ones for you but I'm at work and left my KF at home. If they're not up by the time I get home I'll put them up.

Here's the CalendarProvider.apk and for some reason I don't have an AmazonCalendar.apk in /system/app. My /data folder is completely empty (unrooted, so idk if that's why it's empty) so it may be in there. Maybe someone else can post that one? If not I'll root again tonight or tomorrow and post it for you.
Sorry, I'm not gonna have time right now. Oh, and btw this is the first time I've tried pulling an .apk off the KF so please let me know if I didn't do it correctly.
It worked, thank you!
Cool, glad I could help.

Btw, I don't care much for it because I use the Calendar most in Agenda view, but does your month view look like this with an orange Android?
Edit: Nvm, there was a copy of calendar.apk in system/app that wasn't supposed to be there and removing that fixed it

Woah, no it doesn't. It's just the standard month view.
tried this and follow every step, still can't get contacts and calendar to sync.
gmail doens't really sync either, have to manually refresh each time. is it because I have an account set up under the default email client?
I have copied the calendar sync adapter and contacts sync adapter to /system/app and chmod 0644 it. then i rebooted and installed calendar.apk normally. doesn't appear to work.
gmail I have the option for sync for my email set to on, but I don't think it's working.
Am I missing something? Market is working fine, apps install normally.
Are you sure that the permissions for the GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk and GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk files in system/app look like this..?

What app is that that you are using to change permissions? thanks.
It's Root Explorer (a must have for root users).
Does this work?

For Calendar: When you go into Menu>More>Calendars are the calendars your trying to sync visible and synced? It took a few minutes for my events to properly load up.
Gmail: From inbox, Menu>Accounts>Menu>Account settings>[email protected] and make sure Gmail is selected (as well as any other google servies you want synced). My gmail was turned off initially. I also made the mistake of thinking Menu>More>Settings was the only sync option for gmail.
Don't have contacts set up, sorry.

My experience is, after setting amazon's default e-mail app,
gmail.app also can use contacts.
But I don't know which one app works.
Maybe either GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk or amazon contacts works.
Does anyone get a grey bar at the top of their Google Calendar that partially covers the first row of dates in the month view and the midnight hour block in the other views? How do I get rid of it?
I am also struggling with calendar sync. My other apps recognize my account (gmail/reader/music), but my calendars don't show up in settings.
Device is rooted, permissions applied, and contacts are synced.

Why on earth does Torch Light APK need access to the following?

I am running CheckROMv3 on my Note, and decided to install the Torch Light application of Samsung.
I found the apk in the developers thread, and when I opened it with Installer it requested a lot of permissions. Some highlights are listed bellow:
//
Add or modify calendar events, read browser's history and bookmarks, read contact data, read user defined dictionary, write contact data.
SysScope (??) (sound snooping enough?)
Directly call phone, send, receive, read, edit SMS or MMS.
Your location, both coarse as well as GPS.
Your account: act as account authenticator, use credentials.
Modify, delete USB sotrage contents.
Change audio settings, record audio, take pictures and videos.
System tools including BT, wifi etc
Discover knowns accounts, read Google service configuration, view configured accounts.
Automatically start at boot, read Home settings and shortcuts.
//
All of that for a simple torch widget?
Seriously Samsung, why do you need my GPS and access to my SMS and Google services to light a dark staircase? And how are you planning on acting as an authenticator on my part?
Is this even legal or ethical? And how about all the stock ROM users that have no idea of the above list? Are they really making an educated decision when accepting the update?
This is why I love android and cooked ROMs. I get to decide what I want to share and in this case I decided not to install it.
PS: I just hope this is just an oversight of the programmers. They might have just used a shared library that requests all of the above. Today the Torch Light widget might be using none of them, but if you give your permission to it, future updates will not inform you of any changes.
:O good thing i deleted it.

[Q] disabling gmail accounts, from ADB?

Hey all,
I attached my gmail account to the gmail app in my rooted nook. Now, I'm finding that I'm eating a lot more battery life than I used to. I'm guessing it has to do with the work of syncing the google mail. The problem, is that in the app, whenever I get into the settings area for controlling the account, the nook reboots. I'm not sure why.
I'd love to disable the gmail app or otherwise keep it from updating, but I can't get at it from any menus on the device. I was thinking ADB, but I'm open to other ideas.
AN IMPORTANT POINT: I don't want to remove my google account from the device, because I'm loading apps via the Market that way. I just want to stop the gmail mail account app from eating my battery through it's activity!
Something is fishy about that Gmail installation. Maybe try reinstalling the app? Or if you used the GappsAttack (or whatever), just redo that.
Failing that, you can disable the apps (as I did when Gmail kept failing to send mail without deleting the accounts and adding them anew--a known issue with older versions of the app) by renaming the apk files as .old or .bak or something. To do that you will need a Root Browser of some sort (like the free app of the same name). Then go to system/app and there rename Gmail.apk and GmailProvider.apk
When I was using Gmail I had it set to check "never", meaning I could check manually when I wanted. Now that I am using the Email.apk provided by NFHimself here I have it set the same way and it works great--all the time.

Any way to truly deactivate or get rid of BB Hub?

Hi there,
from the moment I got my Priv about for months ago, I deactivated all of the BB apps and Bloatware (like Yahoo Finances) because I just don't need them. Sadly, you can't just uninstall them, so deactivating is the only way.
Just recently I discovered that despite being deactivated, BB Hub still had some permissions (maybe this was changed by the last OS update?) so I revoked them. Now BB Hub (which shouldn't be doing anything since it's deactivated) constantly sits in the notification bar and asks for permissions. I can't even edit or add new contacts without the BB Hub popping up on fullscreen and asking me to grant it permissions. But I don't want to.
Not only is the BB Hub superflous for me - I use Contacts+, don't use the FB app (only in the browser), have only one email-adress (and if I had more, I would integrate them into my gmail inbox) and I surely don't want to have those annoying Whatsapp messages in the same place where my SMS, calls and emails etc are.
I also don't trust BB and don't want to give them access to my contacts, calendar, messages or location. Why does the Hub need location data anyway? And why is the BB Hub so invasive that it even controls the standard Android contacts app?
This is so annoying! I just wish I could root my phone and install CM or any other AOSP-based ROM. But I can't. So the next best thing would be to get rid or at least truly deactivate apps like BB Hub. Does anyone know a way to achieve this?
Would it maybe be possible to get temp-root access and just delete the BB Hub file from the system folder?
Any help would be much appreciated, so thanks in advance!
EDIT: Okay never mind, I've found the culprit! Blackberry Services was active and had permissions. I deactivated it (again) and revoked the permissions and now the annoying pop-up is gone! The OTA update reactivated the BB Services (just as it had reactivated all other pre-installed apps). Guess I overlooked it after the last update.
Maybe some admin can just delete this thread. Or leave it there for others in the future who might encounter the same problem. Whatever's best.
Does your PRIV becomes smoother and less lag after deactivate all of them ? And will they reactivated back after a reboot ? Because my thoughts on Disabling apps, it will run as usual after a reboot.
