[Q] Where are the NFC Advanced Settings Galaxy S5 Lollipop? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a NFC door lock , I need to change the NFC Processing Method but I do not have advanced settings in the menu. Even though when I click help on the device itself and select tap and pay it says for the help category it says:
To change your default processing method, go to setings > NFC > Advanced Settings.
Which NFC isn't even it's own menu off settings. I have been in developers setting and other went through the other settings and I am not finding it.
Anyone have any idea where it is? The lock developers says I have to change it from sim card to the android operation system in the settings.
This is what they gave me but it doesn't match up on the Verizon edition.
•Samsung S5 - Settings > Connections > NFC > Advanced settings (top right button) > Change NFC Processing Method == SE SIM Card // Android operating system. Change to Android operating system
Thanks

Mine has the advanced settings with SE SIM card & Android operating system options enabled by default... Not sure but try to clear the app data of your settings from Application manager. If it's still not there try maybe flashing another ROM(official or custom).

I tried clearing the app data and still nothing. I have the latest update from Verizon on the phone, so I don't run a custom rom.

Probably verizon had it disabled on their ROMs? I know most carriers are known for disabling specific phone features.

I screwed up I think

So this morning I was fiddling with my Galaxy S5 (SM-G900W8). I was trying out those secret dialing codes because I kept getting a MMI error.
So anyway I launch up *#4636#* and I select "TURN OFF RADIO" and "TURN ON SMS OVER IMS" as per this website guide http://www.technobezz.com/fix-connection-problem-invalid-mmi-code/
As soon as I did that, my network was shut off and I tried re enabling it but it still won't turn back on. I tried factory reset, firmware install through Kies, took it to Telus, who didn't know what was wrong with it. I tried re entering my APN settings, selecting any Network in settings tells me "Your SIM won't allow connections to this network" even the network I am on (Telus)
I tried changing CSC, I am currently downloading firmware to flash in Odin, hoping that works.
But can anyone give me suggestions? I feel like since I just switched a setting, I should be able to turn one back on.
EDIT: Flashing official firmware in Odin did not work.

First, no need to screw up with those things such as changing APN or CSC...
I have turned off radio and then turned it on without problem.
So you can try to turn it on again.
Can you show the screenshots of it?

It actually says "Turn off Radio" every time I reboot so it seems to turn on that setting anyway. Which does nothing.

1- Got a question: in the 2nd screenshot, why it showed a full list of bands (Automatic/EURO/USA/Japan...), while in the 4th screenshot, the list is empty? In my device the list is always empty (as in your 4th screenshot), I don't know why.
2- If you have root, install Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app > Menu > 'Secret Codes' > *#197328640# > 'Launch 0' > BASIC INFORMATION (capture screenshot #1) > Menu - Back > NAS INFORMATION > MM INFORMATION (capture screenshot #2) > Menu - Back > MM REJECT CAUSE (capture screenshot #3).
3- If you don't have root, open the dialer > *#0011# (capture screenshot #1) > Menu - Back > Menu - Key Input > Q0 > wait... > DEBUG SCREEN > NAS INFORMATION > MM INFORMATION (capture screenshot #2) > Menu - Back > MM REJECT CAUSE (capture screenshot #3).
And post these 3 screenshots for more investigation.

If Radio is turned on, I get no options to select.
If Radio is turned off, I get those options, none which work.

Screenshot 2 - http://i.imgur.com/G5K7VZk.png
My screen didn't have a MM REJECT CAUSE menu and my phone doesn't let me press back to get to previous menus, so I took a pic of SIM INFORMATION to see if that helps. http://i.imgur.com/zvpKfyh.png

The network has considered your phone as a illegal device and refused service either because an identity of the phone is not acceptable, or because the phone does not pass the authentication check. I dont know why. It should be a false positive report.

I Fixed it!
I kept messing around in ServiceMode and finally found the setting to get my network back. It was NV settings that I reset under PROTOCOL. Told me to reboot and voila my LTE was back. SMS and calling didn't work so I factory reset and now everything is working fine. I knew my SIM was fine and my EMEI was fine. I knew it was something I could change myself.
Thank you for the help man. I am now going to never install that Phone info app again unless I have other problems lol.

Android MM and GSM

Hello!
I've sent my Note 4 to my friend who lives in Russia. I've unlocked it first. Global unlock by Idone.
Russia do not have CDMA. GSM only. So, he was using Note 4 and everything was OK.
Until he updated to 6.0.1 After he Odined PC1 suddenly GSM wasn't working anymore. He tried everything but nothing helped. He downgraded to COK1. GSM was working again. As I understand, he did OTA to PC1 and GSM was not working again.
Can somebody help with it? Is there some fix?
Please, help?
Thank you!
not work because, idone not function in 6.0

Yes, our app works on both 5.x and 6.0.1, it even works on not rooted phones.
His problem is related to the fact that switching from GSM to CDMA and viceversa on phones that needs GCF Setting requires that the user revert the GCF setting too.

Antila, just open our app, tap on GCF settings:
To have GSM working on note 4 tap those items:
UE Setting & Info >
Setting >
Protocol >
GCF >
GSM/(E)GPRS/WCDMA GCF ON
Reboot the phone.
Then go on Settings > Mobile Network > Network mode > GSM/UMTS
To Have CDMA working on note 4 tap those items instead:
UE Setting & Info >
Setting >
Protocol >
GCF >
CANCEL SETTING (GCF OFF)
Reboot the phone.
Then go on Settings > Mobile Network > Network mode > CDMA

Note 4 AT&T No Preferred Network Mode in Settings

Hi Guys,
i have a problem with my Note 4. I attached a screenshot and you can see that there is no Preferred Network Mode option in it. I also try the code (*#*#4636#*#*) for hidden menu to change it but nothing happens coz when i changed the setting from GSM/LTE/Auto to GSM/CDMA/LTE/Auto and go back from the menu it will be revert automatically.
Can someone fixed it or have any solution???
Is there any one to help ????
I believe it requires a build prop or csc code edit that requires root for the settings menu but the service menu method should work as long as you do it correctly...and I say correctly not assuming your doing it wrong but to encinuate that there is a certain way you have to enter the keys..... Google it and you should be able to find a video

How to enable VoLTE (Voice LTE) feature in ZE520KL?

I found that it is possible to activate VoLTE in android
dial *#*#4636#*#*
But it doesn't work. Any suggestions?
I found the second method....
1. Install SQLite App & launch this app.
2. Go to files tab.
3. Tap on data > data > com.android providers.settings > databases .
4. open Settings.db , Global , search for Volte_feature_disabled
5. change value from 1 to 0
6. close sqlite editor , restart your phone , open settings > Sim cards
& mobile network
7. done you have enabled volte feature in your device successfully .
But in data > data > com.android providers.settings > I cannot find any database.

[Q] NFC doesn't work on Oreo 8.1

The NFC function lost after upgrating to Stock Oreo 8.1.0, while it works well on 7.1 all the time.
I confirm that I turned on the NFC botton in the settings menue, but the NFC didn't work.
I have unlocked the critical partitions before flashing, also tried OTA, but the NFC doesn't work at ANY TIME.
Anyone can help me? Thanks so much...
It works fine on 8.1 for me but I never unlocked anything. Normally the best thing to do would be to factory reset your phone and choose the start fresh option in the setup menu instead of restoring from a Google backup. Problems after a big update like Nougat to Oreo aren't uncommon and are nearly always fixable by doing a factory reset correctly (fresh start). But since you modded your phone something else might be going on.

Works fine for me.
I am rooted 8.1, Magisk, ElementalX.
I don't have any issues with it and I'm stock 8.1 unrooted.
I have tried third party Oreo 8.1, the NFC works fine.
Only failed on Stock Oreo 8.1.
I tried another time to do a new flashing with Back_to_Stock package 8.1, when flashing system_a.img and system_b.img, it showed a message " Invalid sparse file format at header magic", and after that, it began to flash the system image normally. But as usual, the NFC didn't work.

Anything related to the mistake? Thanks.

i've got the same issue. nfc doesn't recognize any card or device whilst it is activated in settings and nfc test app says anything is fine.
i'm using android pie but it was the same on oreo. my bootloader is fully unlocked. i always update via back-to-stock and fastboot.

I am running stock 8.1 and NFC didn't seem to work for me either until I touched a tag to the lower portion of the back and it fired. I was used to the sensor in previous phones being in the middle or toward the top. It would not work until it was in the lower 20% of the back side.
Don't know if it will be the same for you, but here's hoping.
yes, it was the same for me. i realized it just a few minutes after my post but didn't find it then. so i couldn't delete it.
I've been fighting to get mine to work, so far nothing. I contacted Essential tech support and they had me clear the cache and showed where the NFC sensor is (bottom part of the phone on the back). I tried using Android Beam to send/receive URL's with my old phone (confirmed that it can send/receive through Android Beam). Nothing is working. Debating whether or not to return the phone and get something else. Any help would be appreciated.
Here's what tech support sent me:
As a verification step, confirm that you're using the correct area of the phone for NFC. Unlike most smartphones, the Essential Phone's NFC chip is located on the bottom of the device.
If you are aware of the NFC position, to isolate the issue further and determine the best way to resolve this, I'd like you to try a few steps.
Ensure that NFC is enabled in settings. (Settings > Connected Devices > Connected Preferences > NFC)
Ensure that Google Pay is the default Tap & pay sevice (Settings > Apps & notifications > Advanced > Default apps > Tap & pay > Payment default > select the desired payment app)
Clear the cache in the NFC Service and reboot the device. (Settings > Apps & Notifications > See all apps > Three dots in the top right > Show System > NFC Service > Storage > Clear Cache)
Attempt to use the NFC service with another app or service like Android Beam (Settings > Connected Devices > Android Beam)
Chiming into this thread - NFC doesn't even show up for me in Connected Devices, on Android 9.
Look under connection preferences in connected devices

I don't have NFC or android beam in my preferences window.
Ok, what do you have?
Edit: just noticed it's you in two threads
Finally got mine resolved. Received a new phone under warranty yesterday. Confirmed that NFC works.
