(sgh-i337z) (i337ztuuboa1) root help...... - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Has anyone had any luck Rooting this phone. I need to get the tethering and mobile hot-spot option back but everything I've tried hasn't worked. Can someone point me In the right direction?
•Model number: SAMSUNG-SGH-I337Z
•Android version: 4.4.2
•Baseband version: I337ZTUUBOA1
•kernel version: 3.4.0-3238692 / [email protected] #1 / Wed Jan 14 18:33:42 KST 2015
•Build number: KOT49H.I337TUUBOA1
•SWE for Android Status: Enforcing / SE[F_SAMSUNG-SGH-I337Z_4.4.2_0033 / Wed Jan 14 18:33:42 2015
• Secure boot status: Type: Samsung
• Security software version: MDF v1.0 Release 2
I've been told to Downgrade my kernel and reuse towel root just not sure If It can be done or how. Can someone please point me In the right direction??? Can confirm that neither towelroot or kingo root works.

I'm facing this same problem. I recently switched from my old S4 to the new one (SGH-I377ZTUUBOA1) because Cricket is introducing a new network that isn't compatible with my old S4. I have searched the internet rigorously for a successful root method, but nobody seems to have been able to do it. Not to mention I could hardly find any information about this phone. I have tried kingoroot and towelroot with no success. I found this which will downgrade the kernel, but I'm afraid to try it because it is meant for the AT&T S4, and I don't want to impair my new phone. Anyone had any luck with this phone?

Does anyone know about SRSroot software? It claims to work for the new Cricket Samsung galaxy S4 build number.

I tried it and confirm it doesn't work. SRSroot is configured to auto tweet every time a new phone is used with their software regardless of whether it was successful or not.

I can confirm Kingroot works on this. Not Kingo, but Kingroot. It is a Chinese app that installs its own version of Superuser, which is kind of unfortunate. But it does provide you with root. After using this root method, there are threads to install TWRP or Safestrap. From there you can install a custom ROM like CM12 or something.
Not able to post links yet so I don't have one to Kingroot, but do a quick Google search and you shall receive.

Oh man thank you so much! I had given up all hope of ever rooting my phone until you swooped in out of nowhere! You fricken rock dude! Thank you!
Here's the link for anyone else facing the same problem: http://www.kingroot.net
And here's an easy way to replace the Chinese superuser app with SuperSU: http://zidroid.com/how-to-get-ride-and-replace-kinguser-with-supersu-app/
Anyone know where I can find a recovery for this phone?

Can't root phone with latest update

My son updated his phone last night with the OTA 4.3 update. He asked me to root it this morning, and it fails every time. It seems that Lookout is stopping it. I disabled lookout, but it seems to be integrated in the new software. I tried every method on this forum. If anyone could help, I'd appreciate it.

cf auto root works on rogers, but you'll trip the knox flag. if you dont use active sync (exchange) then you may not care. can still root and run custom recoveries on rogers. Just typed up a bunch of crap on knox, so not getting in to it again, but if I were you, i'd wait for a confirmed knox safe method.

Android Rooting on AT&T SM-N900A new OTA update

Okay so I am brand new to the Android OS. I have been an iPhone user for about 5 years and jailbreaking was such a simple task and I fully understood how that worked. I'm glad I made the switch to android because it does everything a jailbroken iPhone does. I just found out about this rooting stuff. How does it work and how can I do it with Note 3 on AT&T SM-N900A? I downloaded some new OTA update but I don't know what it means.

Kingo Root is the only current method to root MJ5, its really simple and fast if you chose to do so. Its just a program on you pC that you run and it will give you root and reboot your phone and your done.

RdlV is for versions prior to your MJ5. Don't even think about using it!
Kingo Root works well but is suspected to be malware (search for details) and all links to it have been banned from xda until kingo devs prove it is safe. That doesn't seem to be happening very quickly.

You will brick your device if you use RDLV.
As far as I know, Kingo will work. However, due to it sending our IMEI number to China, I don't wanna do it yet.

They said the newest Kingo update removed those calls back home and that they won't be doing that anymore. I don't know anything about them sending IMEI info to China, but supposedly the connections to their servers in China was to download the updates as the program rooted the phone.
I was skeptical about kingo root but after doing some research I went ahead and did it and everything seems to be fine. Yes, it takes your imei but no one really knows what they do with it if anything. All rooting is, is finding exploits and utilizing them to gain root access. In all actuality, you never truly know the intentions of any new developers that come on the scene.

MI9 to MJ5 while rooted
Hi Zug
I tried the method with survival mode and disabling superuser and the official mode in Wanam to try to go from MI9 to MJ5 ......everything is fine until it reboots but always fails at 27% point of installation. ... trotted it 7 or so times. .... Same result. After the fail it reboots and I get the message "update interrupted".

I remember reading about users having the same issue with the instalation stalling at the same percentage every time. It has something to do with you changing something (can be a number of things) in the system folder. Think about it, did you change the boot animation? There is a thread talking about it, I'll see if I can't find it for ya.

I finally solved 2 problems (the installation problem and the sudden failure of Kies3 to see my phone) by going to recovery, doing a wipe data and cache and factory reset. I then re-rooted using the De La Vega method, disabled root and checked "survival mode in SuperSU Pro and then accepted the update to MJ5. This time it made it past the 27% installation point and completed. The I re-enabled root in SuperSU Pro launched titanium backup and batch restored apps and all is well. So I am finally rooted and on MJ5 without having to use Kingo. Thanks for your help.

Root on 4.4.4 Kitkat

So in the Note 4 Dev page "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60610290&postcount=173" they have achieved root on KK (4.4.4) by using King Root. Unfortunately due to the status of the locked boot loader on the Note 4, it is only temp and will unroot the phone after a reboot. Has anyone with a Note 3 tried using King Root yet? And if so, do you only have temp root like the N4?
King Root works on generic 32 bit phones. Note 3 is a 32-bit phone
Instructions w/APK from another post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60612907&postcount=183
It failed on 4.4.4 NK1.
After the reboot, the app ran again automatically but failed again.
Now I'm uninstalling the app.

I have been reading up on the Note 4 forum on Xda and people are saying that it may take couple tries before root access is granted. *Must be online for the app to work, as it connects to their servers to see what exploits can be used to root the phone.
I m on 4.4.4 NJ6, i tried to root with kingroot but it seens that doesn't work
can also confirm that nk1 it did not work. I've even gone as far as trying the pingpong root and the root that the xperia recently got. We are all desperate.
Have any of you guys try opening king user after using kingroot and grant root permissions to something like root checker or does the app just fail while trying to obtain root?

I can second that.
I can third that
kingroot wasn't able to root it in either attempt I made, 4.4.4 or 5.0 . I tried with both the android apk and the pc version. Its possible that it requires multiple attempts (its all in chinese so who knows what exploits it is trying)
I just got a replacement device and it came with 4.4.4 so I am hoping to find something to root. there doesn't seem to be anything that works yet.

Thanks for the update on your attempts, ACalcutt.
That's right, it is in Chinese. Who here can read it? I, for one, am curious to learn which exploits it is attempting.

Umm, I'm fairly new to this, have down this a few times but in order to downgrade, don't you have to be ROOTed? I will have to look into doing this I guess. My problem is I just bought the phone brand new and it is my only phone. I have had much luck with other Galaxy S5s and Notes on other networks and am pretty familiar with ODIN so this was the first thing I tried. Could you explain a bit more the root.bat method? If it has to do with ADB, that doesn't seem to give me authorization when I connect it and use the adb devices command. It gives the serial number and says unauthorized. I have USB debugging enabled in the phone but still no luck with that either.
The first post in that thread I linked has directions. Read it carefully a few times. I don't know if it will work or not. The first step is to flash the pb1 firmware in that first post with the Odin version in that same post. If that works the rest probably will to. Read the section called 'installing pb1'

[Help] [SM-S903VL] Help Rooting a Samsung Galaxy S5

Android Version: 6.0.1
Baseband Version: S903VLUDU4APH3
Kernal Version:

Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I have tried looking about and only found a Chinese Website that mentioned the Firmware.
I am not sure if there isn't a root or if I am simply misunderstanding how to do something.
Please and thank you for taking time to try to help me.
Sorry for the double post and bump, but it has been a few days, and my topic seemed to be drifting away from page 1 and 2.
I still do need assistance if anyone can help.
Please and thank you.

Yep! I assumed it was from the fact that I had a Samsung Galaxy S4 before this phone. And I used that phone to restore my apps from. It says about Samsung Video (S4 & Note3) I believe for me.
Any ideas?

Do you guys have an app for this device, Samsung Video, that just refuses to update?

I haven't seen the beaming service app refuse to update. I'm not sure why it's doing this. The only thing I can assume is the new version of Samsung Video in the app store isn't compatible with the Galaxy S5 (or the installed firmware), and that somebody in quality control wasn't doing their due diligence.
I've been really happy with this phone so far, just wish I could root it. I haven't tried any suggested methods yet, I'm waiting to see what successes other people are having first before I brick my phone (I'm chicken!). I've been following this thread as well:

Just got this phone about a month or so ago and I can't find anything about rooting it. It is very frustrating because everyone keeps ignoring posts about this phone and it then drifts away and nothing gets answered. I have tried the @kxhan15 's method on root a similar version from Straight Talk but fails in ODIN trying to flash TWRP. I really wish someone would come to the rescue with an answer!
I don't know if there is some other information I can provide that may help or where else to look for assistance. In all honesty I just feel useless having to wait.
Give us root! Dev gods hear our cries!
I have these files. Anyone know what to do to make it into root?

Doesn't the TowelRoot v3 app let you modify some code to let you use it with phones that are not yet compatible? I looked into it but I don't quite understand it.
Hopefully someone is working on it behind the scenes and is just keeping it under wraps.
Maybe it will be a holiday present for us! Wishful thinking though.
