[Q] copy whole system to new device - Xiaomi Mi 2

Hi
I crashed my Mi2, screen broken, touchscreen no longer reacts.
So I, loving this device, got myself a new one, now Mi2S.
I have CWM Recovery (v6.0.5.0), sMiui (5.3.27) and many wonderful apps and data on my broken device.
What is the quickest/easiest way to migrate EVERYTHING to the new unit?
My suggestion:
flash CWM
copy CWM backup to new unit
restore
copy my data (files, photos...)
Correct? Do I miss an important point? Is there a shortcut?
Mind, I CANNOT operate the broken screen but the physical buttons work in order.
Thanks for your advice!
Simon

You can do that, but mi2s is slightly different hardware to mi2. I would advise flashing a fresh cyanogenmod zip to the new device after installing Cwm, then doing a custom restore on the new device and just restore the data partition. You lose the settings for the system apps, but that takes maybe 10 mins to setup.

You can use china PC tool

China PC Tool?
Sorry, but what is that? I can't find any reference on google.
Thanks!

Advanced backup one of the best thing in recovery now!
Nice.
I just flashed it, and I'm gonna say it again.
Is there any chance to make fonts bigger? It's very difficult to read and too bat the big X5's screen to don't be used.
So with all the improvements what differences can we see in the real usage?

Very good work Geno! But is it supposed to look like this after a normal backup?
What's the difference between this and Perfect Recovery 4.0.0.5?
The backups that are produced by both recoveries are compatible?
it worked well ,excellent work and save the real vol button's using time

GingerBreak worked fine (I think), so the problem is solved.
I have a question why bother of restoring if this not restoring contacts, sms and settings..after restore you must to do everything like it's fresh install/.

Clockwork does restore contacts, settings, sms, etc, in short, it makes a snapshot of your phone in any given time, and then, when you restore, your phone returns exactly how it was before. If contacts, settings and other stuff isn't being restored in your phone, when you use clockwork, then you're doing something wrong for sure...

HOW it's even possible to do something wrong if all you have to do to backup and restore-is click on 1 menu item in restore menu? STrange but for me it only restored apps, that's it no settings nothing.
Maybe it's a stupid question but anyway... I wonder where is a location of backup witch is made in CMW-based Recovery 4.0.1.5?
Because I am making a lot of backup's and upgrades these days so I'll have to clean up it some how.

Complete backup and restore.

I would like to do a complete back up of the kernel, rom, apps, data, etc. and move it all over to another Nexus 7.
Is it possible to do a complete backup and restore via USB? Backup to Desktop, and then restore into the new 7?
If so, what is the best way?
Thanks!
If you use an older version of cwm (pre 6.x.x.x) it will create a single backup file instead of the current system with the blobs folder. However I would be very wary of moving one backup to another

Let me explain. I am replacing my Nexus 7 with a new one, and don't want to have to set it all up again because it's perfect right now
No clean way to do this? I have to just rebuild it all over again on the new 7?
If you are rooted, you can almost do it that easy, but you would need to unlock and root the new device first, install recovery and then move the saved nandroid backup to the new device and use recovery to restore that and you would have a copy of your old device on the new one.
The last time I did that,I was up and running on the new device in about 15-20 mins.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29550640
If you are not rooted, there is another method, but I've never actually tried doing it, so I don't know how well it works.

Thanks. That helps alot. I am rooted so should be good to go. I was not aware that the nandroid file could be saved and restored to a new device.

On my Android phone, Nandroid does not back up the internal (/emmc) data nor the /sdcard data. Does it back up EVERYTHING on the Nexus 7?

I tried this!!! I do not suggest it!!! Nothing went.. wrong per say.. everything restored nicely and I went on my way, but it had more lag spikes, it had random freezes while screen was off that required a reboot, and biggest of all, it semi corrupted the sdcard partition so it couldn't be accessed, I ended up just wiping my device and starting fresh, works fine now to wipe I suggest locking boot loader and reunlocking to get it really well wiped. For the record my restore was with only data which a Dev deemed safer than a full restore but sadly as he suspected, there were problems. You can I think use titanium backup on non system apps pretty safely though

My answer was as specific as your 'question'. Assuming it is N7 to N7, with both in near identical states (I.e. ROM, apps, wipes etc) then it should work. However, restoring data is usually a hit-miss affair and YMMV.
'Old' and 'new device', as you stated, only make complete sense to you and the many mind readers and/or voyeurs and stalkers

Well we are in the N7 forum, and asking to restore data from a custom rom to a stock device would just be asking for trouble, lol.
yea golden rule, dont load a backup from one device to a replacement of that same device. apps are fine through titanium backup but dont be loading nandroid backups
I do this all the time across my devices .Restore my CUSTOM TI Backup but you need to selectively choose what to restore. This works ONLY With APPS AND APP DATA. NO SYSTEM APPS OR SYSTEM APP DATA. that is how the sd card becomes currupt. Also if you do a FULL BACKUP SAY OF YOUR PHONE. then selective restore some of it to A Say your tablet with apps and app data. THIS WILL ALSO NOT WORK IN YOUR FAVOR.
FROM the old device . do a backup of APPS ONLY no (some apps will work with apps and app data) THEN Restore that on your tablet or new device . Do not make a full backup of the old device then selectivity restore from it to the new device. This can also cause issues on the new device.
Hope this is not to complicated to understand im no writer.
The above is from my own personal experience with TI BACKUP... The above is how i have been doing it for years.. GOOD Luck

installed apps . (APPS THAT WAS not part of the rom)this will work just fine to backup and restore.. Even most will restore app data.
The problem comes when restore apps from one device to another where the app when it installs sets itself for the device type . Then restored to a different device type.. The issue with system apps is it could replace some system settings or files during the restore and currupt data or apps.
I just RMA my nexus device.
Used the command "adb backup -apk shared all"
That backed up my entire device and I didn't have to be rooted or have my boot loader unlocked.
Typed in "adb restore backup.ab" on my new device and was right where I left off.
You need the latest android SDK on you PC and you also need to run those commands as administrator.
I have an "adb backup" file from a stock, first-gen Nexus 7 16GB that was damaged. We replaced it with a second-gen Nexus 7 32GB, which has been rooted without touching the bootloader. We're having trouble getting the games to recognize their data when we restore them piecemeal, so I'm wondering if it would be safe to restore the adb backup from the old device to the new device? Are there enough differences to cause problems? If it fails, will I still be able to simply do a factory reset and get the new N7 back to factory specs? We've only had the new one a few days.

Hi,
Is there a danger installing this on my roted Xoom ? : http://brobot175.co.uk/setup/
Can I lose my data ?
Thanks in advance !!
Envoyé depuis mon Xoom avec Tapatalk
It's just a ROM that is modified to look like Windows 8, yes you can lose your data if you don't backup. Other than that, there is no danger.
I can't backup my 25 gb of data, i only have a 32 mb micro sd...
Thanks for your answer !
Copy it to your PC and just copy it back if you run into any issues.
I'll still need to reinstall the apps all over again...
That's why you're copying your SD data to your PC then making a backup.
But how do you make this backup ?
Thx for your answers !
Use titanium backup (buy the pro if you don't have it) to make app backups so you can restore across flashes. And then you can connect your Xoom to your PC, and copy all your files over to make sure you don't lose any data during the flash.

2.1
Hi, i have tried porting this using many roms, eos(different builds), cm 9 and 10, project orca and i think it was killrom 4.2.
I am a complete novice when it comes to this but i managed to boot up with w8 boot screen then got stuck there, next attempt got booted but not with w8 boot screen, had extra apps and icons to mess with but for some reason i could not get the screen to look much like the brobot175 video, eventually i gave up.
Didn't mind spending time on it just started to get annoyed when not looking right.
Hope someone else has luck with it:confused

I also just ordered 2days ago, any chance chamge to 3 foot power socket?
Hi,
The device is rooted by default.
Still waiting for custom rom. Seems it will take a time.
Can anyone please provide me with a backup of a stock recovery image to cs918 plus? I have replaced the original one with TWRP and now I cannot update the device with new firmware because I cannot find the stock recovery anywhere.
You can easy make a backup copy of stock recovery with Flashify app then put it into the internet and give me a link so I can download it and flash it into my CS918 plus.
Thanks in advance guys!
Please help
I can't upgrade my firmware either cuz I can't even figure out how to get into recovery, I'll get you a copy of stock recovery when I am home tomorrow.

To flash a new firmware use that instruction:
To get a new firmware type in google: "csrk3288p 20150609", enter the link location and download the file from the web site.
(Unfortunately I cannot put the exact link because I am a new user)
Then put the unpacked downloaded file into the main directory of your external sd card (/mnt/external_sd/) and change the file name from t031_8723bs_CSQ_splaire_20150609.img on update.img.
Then turn on the device but first hold down the button at the bottom of device and keep holding it until you willl get into recovery or install the "Reboot recovery" app.
Then you can choose "data/factory reset" but you don't have to - be careful that will erase all your apps and data installed but will not erase your external sd card.
Then choose "update rkimage from external storage" to flash new firmware.
PS. To navigate in recovery I'm using external keyboard connected to one of USB ports.
If you will have any troubles just ask.
I would be grateful for the stock recovery image for CS918 PLUS device.
Does anyone know if there even is a Source drop for this device ? What methods are used to flash a new rom/firmware ?
I don't have the device but can look at the code.

I don't have the firmware of cs918 plus, but I know how to flash the firmware. I think the procedure is same with cs918 and all rockchip based android tv box.
Using the RKBatch Tool to flash the firmware.
1. Connect to your computer with micro usb cable when device is off
2. Hold reset and power on
3. If one of connected device turn green, browse to the firmware (*.img)
4. Press "Restore" button and wait. Remember "Restore" button, not "Upgrade"

Can't you pull the recovery from the firmware update IMG? I figured out how to update firmware from SD card but used a app called reboot to get into recovery because there's no button on the bottom of my device. That firmware from 0609 called splaire is horrible as is the 2nd newest firmware. I with I had never updated mine it was better before...
I just spent an hour trying to get the recovery for u using flashify, it says it backed it up to SD card but its nowhere to be found on it, it says it backed up to dropbox but the folder it created on Dropbox is empty... Any other way to backup the recovery for u?

Glad to help. My unit is completely bricked now it seems. I upgraded to the June 29 firmware and a lot of functions on the remote stopped working so I wanted to downgrade so I tried to reboot to recovery but root was lost with this update.... So I tried the rkbatch method but I could never get the green connected to show up.
