Phone not turning on and led flashing rapidly - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just flashed MOAR rom on my phone a few days ago and everything was working perfectly then while at work I pulled my phone out of my pocket and noticed my case had slipped off and was holding the power button down. After fixing the case I tried to unlock my phone and nothing came up on my screen. I held down the power button and the only thing that happened was my LED indicator is flashing green rapidly and at different brightness. Then I pulled the battery and left it out of my phone for 2 hours and still the only thing that is happening is the LED. When I plug it into my computer without me hitting the button the LED is flashing. It wont boot into recovery and I don't want to send it in and them find a custom rom on it so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am assuming it won't go into download mode either? Try holding the power button in for at least 30-40 seconds.

No, I've tried holding just the power button for a minute or trying to go into either download or recovery mode and got nothing.

Try the same thing with the charger plugged in.
"Try holding down the power button for 1 minute with the charger connected. If this doesn't present the screen, try holding the power button AND both volume buttons at the same time. This should bring up a menu. There should be an option for reboot or force reboot"

Thanks for trying to help, I've tried holding both volume and power button for a minute and nothing. After having it plugged in for a few minutes my battery started to get warm.

Just something I found while looking for answers. At least your battery is getting warm. That is better than the alternative.

Are you using the original data cable? Try a different USB port maybe?

Device dead?

My Polaris seems dead.
No response with the following key combination:
# power button
# reset button
# reset + ie + mail buttons (Hard Reset)
# reset + camera buttons (bootloader)
I removed the battery during 1 hour.
I have no led indication when I connect the device with power adapter.
What can I do?
I have the same problem with my phone from time to time. When I push the soft restart button nothing happens. When I plug it in no led light, or it flashes red. Which means battery is less than dead.
What I find that works for me when this happens is to plug the phone in, and keep pushing the soft reset button while hitting the power button at the same time. You will eventually get that vibrate you do when the phone powers on.
Thats at least what has worked for me for the past few months with my vogue. Give it a shot, nothing to loose Good luck

Happen to me too last month, every combination with no luck.
Thanks god my son was throw the phone to the floor. And suddenly the phone is back from the dead..
Maybe some of your hardware is not really tight up each other. Specially the power button.

Thanks for the advise, but smashing the wall didn't give any life back.
I have dismounted the phone and found nothing strange.
I have to say good bey to my phone and all the incredible ROM builders on this forum.

Help diagnosing damage

I dropped my S4 on a hard floor in its case and it was still working for a few minutes and then turned off. Now when I take the battery out and put it back in it automatically shows the first Samsung screen, vibrates, then turns off. I can't get it into recovery or download. Thanks for any help.

Probably your power button is stuck. Try to wiggle it loose or replace it.

I've taken the phone apart to make sure nothing came loose and the power button it moving. Could it be damaged and still be clicky?

I found this.
Maybe give it a shot:

The phone doesn't stay on long enough to boot. I tried recovery and download mode and it sometimes shows that it's going to recovery then powers off.
I tested the power button with my multimeter and the circuits check out. Not sure where to go from here.

I am still sure it's your power button.
- The device boots automatically when you put the battery in.
- It reboots before it enters recovery
- It reboots before or when you are in download mode.
It's a common problem.
I just ordered the replacement switch. I will post back after I receive it and solder it on.

Thanks for the input. I was almost ready to give up on this phone. I ended up breaking the power button off by wiggling it with a screwdriver and booting it by plugging it in without a battery then putting the battery in and holding to use download mode and canceling to boot.

phone won't boot/start up

I have a at&t S4 that all of a sudden today stopped working. When I restart the phone by taking the battery out and putting back in, it gets stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S4 logo and then a black screen. I tried going to recovery mode(volume up + home + power button), and it shows recovery booting in blue for a sec then goes black. I tried for download mode the warning comes up but after pressing volume up it goes black. I really don't know what to do at this point.
Tried using kies or smart switch to perform a firmware recovery?
Yes, the computer doesn't recognize that the phone is connected. It's as if when the phone goes to the black screen its actually powered off. The only time I get anything from the phone is when I pull the battery and reinsert it.

When the phone battery are too low, the phone could behave like that too.
Do you know that battery is fully charged or has more than 60%?
If not charge the phone first.
Plug the charger. If you did not see any sign showing that you phone is charging, press and hold the power button for 10 sec and release it. You should see the phone charging image.
Let me know whether your phone has enough battery power left but showing the above mentioned problems.

Yes, the battery is fully charged. I have another S4 Active that I've swapped the batteries with, along with a spare official Samsung battery and charger. It doesn't matter which battery I use, the phone acts the same with any of the 3.

If you have enough battery power left but the phone was behaved like that, you might need to flash the firmware.
Are you in lollipop or kitkat? For the time being, the only firmware available for kit-kat and lollipop is NB1 firmware cooked by muniz_ri . You can get it from here.
You mentioned that you can go to download mode but the phone shut off when you press volume up to go to the download mode after the warning.
Try the 10 sec method. Go to the download mode (power+home+volume-down) but keep holding the power button for 10 sec even though you see the warning message appear. Then you press volume up to go the download mode. Try this way and let me know.

It was on Kitkat. I can press the volume up and get it to show the download android screen but it immediately shuts off. Holding the power button for 10 secs. and then the volume up didn't do anything. The phone shuts off after 1-2 secs. of doing anything.

That is strange. The same thing happened to me. But I avoided the phone shut down by 10 sec methods.
Just hold the power+home+volume down for 10 sec, even though the warning sign show up, and then let it go all of them. Plug the phone to the computer and then press the volume-down to go into download mode. It works for me. Not on the first try though.
Try doing that with batter charger plug in too.

Thanks for your help. I figured out whats wrong, its got a faulty power button. I took the phone apart, put it back together, and was able to get it to boot completely. The slightest touch of the power button causes it to reboot though, so I'm going to need to replace it.

Glad you found the problem. I was trouble shooting for the software error.
Yes, power bottom could give you a problem too. I use screen off app so I do not have to use power button to turn off the screen.

Oh boy, a boot loop!

Get my shiny new phone, start it once, turn it off because I forgot to swap sim cards, and then it's just stuck at a screen that has a circle with a small "S" shape in it which I took to be the "charging" screen. Well ****. I force power-off the device and power it on again. "Installing updates" followed by "failed to mount /system" Huh. Cue an hour of frustration and not being able to find firmware and here we are. Advice? Please? Recovery menu does nothing to help and my next plan is to just flash stock firmware but apparently that doesn't exist (Sprint standard US fyi).
Update: I have no words. "Run graphic test" from the recovery options seems to have fixed the bootloop.
Update 2: the "fix" was only temporary. Nice. Back to the drawing board.
The easiest way is to return it to Samsung or your carrier.
Wow. That really sucks. :/

This thread is very old. But usually this issue stems from needing a factory reset. His inability to flash firmware is cause he was in recovery not download mode.

LG G6 not turning on after full charge !

So i turned my phone off and let it charge until 100 percent. When i took off the charger, i tried to power it on. It vibrated and didnt turn on ever since. I read something about overcharging the battery or something but i'm not sure. I tried using the power button and volume down combination but won't power on att all. Any help?
Hold volume up key and connect phone to pc, should enter download mode. Then reset it by holding all buttons.

Could my battery have gone bad? I doubt it because it was working perfectly before. After i let it sit a full night out of the charger and tried to turn it on, it vibrated and the screen lit a slightly bit but shut off right after. Any ideas?
