Why are there [Q] threads everywhere? - Xperia Z1 General

Sorry for being off topic here. This is not a thread about our devices. However, I've noticed an issue where people are asking questions on the General, Development and Original Development section. Why aren't they on the Q&A section where it should be? This isn't the only thing though. I've seen people answering the questions (which is fine) without reminding them that they are on the wrong section. This promotes others to post questions thread on the wrong sections. I might have made a big deal out of something small. If you have a different opinion on this matter, be sure to share it.
tl;dr: Stop posting Questions[Q] threads on the wrong section

lol, this is a Q thread and it's in general

The title is a question but the post is mostly a discussion. What my thoughts are about this problem and I want to know what other thinks. Have you even read the post?

haha i wanna see where this leads....
I was going to suggest it in the "i don't know about you, but i'm glad the mods are cleaning up" thread, but that got locked.
But seriously... doesn't this make sense?
Just look at the forum right now, there's a million threads moved cuz it's in the wrong forum, cuz people thing this is a "general" talk forum.

What more would you like the mods to do? There already is a Q&A section where questions are to be placed, which means this thread is for anything non question related. Relax and repeat a mantra or something.

Not much.
I reckon his post is really directed at posters who refuse to (or cannot ) read, not the mods. I suppose while people continue answering Qs posted in the General forum, people will continue to post them. OTOH if participants resist the urge to show their knowledge by responding in the wrong forum maybe the posters will see the error in their ways. Failing that the post without a response will soon fade away.
As someone else mentioned, placing the Q&A thread atop the list would probably fix things, but it is out of whack with the rest of the XDA layout, so this would not do either. Quite a few of the Questions seem to come from posters who use English as a second language. So perhaps changing Q&A to Question & Answers may help because the abbreviation may not be so obvious to some.

I understand that, but like the sticky says, the General forum is a tips/news/hints forum, and if you take 2 seconds to look at all the threads in the General forum, they're 99% questions.
Like I said in the first post, I think a lot of people see General, and think of a general/misc talking forum, so they go here to post their issues/ask for help/etc..
SO, since the sticky does say this General forum is tips/news/hints, it should be renamed to that, so when a n00b sees Q&A, they'd ask their Questions there, and if they have tips/news/hints, they'd post here.

Like I said in that thread, the issue was brought up to the moderators and they will do something about it (once the person in charge gets back from his vacation).
Anyways, don't worry about it.. it won't kill you. I'm the one who's doing the work and I'm not complaining much.
And can we please stop starting these threads in the N1 forum --- if you have a general issue with the boards then post them to the main forums (General, etc.), not here. Thank you

Not happy.

Right.
For one thing I am not a spammer, I asked a genuine question to which someone kindly replied, and now I can't read that reply. I had looked through the forum and found some information but wanted to know a little more.
I have never spammed this or any other forum. I have always tried to be constructive in my posts, unlike the many 'we hate se' posts, which quite honestly are a complete joke yet they don't seem to be deleted quite so quickly.
The reply to my post BTW contained a link to information I needed.
I am really dissapointed. I had found this forum and the members to be educational and entertaining, but I doubt I'll be sticking around now to be treated in this way.

Where did u post the original question?
never mind i found it posted in general
now see you say you looked around but i dont think you did as you may have seen the sticky at the top of the page that say please post questions in the Q&A thread.
in the future please put your questions in the correct forum
and while were on the subject
look at the thread you have started
i found
2 identical threads about the car charger fault
a question about hotmail posted in the general section
a question about mp3 distortion in the general section
a question about the stock keyboard and its issue with copilot posted in general section
a useful thread called 2.1 sucks. which was a rollback question posted in general
a thread about aosp rom and hd recording which shouldve been posted in the aosp discussion thread
a question about live wallpapers which is only in the Q&A section because i moved it there
a question about stuttering audio in 2.1 which was in general before i deleted it
then your jit question posted in general
so you clearly dont understand the rules

Highly Disappointed

before few days back i have asked xda peoples reg. miui call recorded possibility on other roms
that thread has been locked
can i know the reason
as i have read term and condition truly and then posted that thread
if it is so then can i know what kind of request i should raise against you kind of people
you i know this is the best community i have ever used still
Probably was a question in the general section instead of q & a section...
if you mean this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356454
then yeah you should have posted it in Q & A section not General
dont you think i should be advised before blocking

In fact, the mod, should moved the thread to the right section
You know i sued to move all questions from general to the Q&A forum. then one day i noticed the number of question posted in general was actually rising because people still cant read the rules (HINT) and post in th right section. i realised that by moving poples threads i was doing the thinking for them. so now i lock every thread without warning. then the user either goes and has a look at the rules (HINT and/ or the stickies (HINT) because they realised theyve done something wrong
to sum it up, if you want spoon feeding then you came to the wrong place

***QUESTIONS BELONG IN Q&A!***

People, we are moving far too many questions into Q&A!
If your question has a [Q] in front of it, it DOESN"T BELONG IN GENERAL!!
Even if there isn't a [Q] there, if it's a question, it DOESN'T BELONG IN GENERAL!!
Please, post in the appropriate forum
Why not redirect threads marked with [Q] automatically to Q&A? People won't stop posting questions in the General section

We've asked for that feature, I don't know if it's possible, but it sure would help.

I see that the people posting in the General section at least mark the thread as question. So redirecting it automatically could reduce something like 60%+ of the questions here.
Do they know what Q&A is?

It's not that they don't know what Q and A is, its just that they think that the question will be solved faster if its in a section where a lot of users visit (more interesting).
But their logic is flawed, since a big flame feast will start the moment they do that lool
I haven't opened a new thread to ask a question in a while, but as far as i know, if you check the box "this is a question" you get an additional warning that posting it in any other section than q&a is a rule violation and one has to confirm to actually post it.
that means that those people clearly violate forum rules after being warned about it. in some devices' sections, threads like that are deleted without further notice, because the moderators don't see themselves as maids for lazy or impudent users.
also, it should be noted, that posting problems, bugs or hardware issues also counts as posting a question.
that means:
- hardware issues should be posted in existing threads of the same issue and for every broken button, the bezel, the display and the battery there already is at least one thread in Q&A.
- hardware issues with accessories should be posted in the accessories section (also in existing threads, where applicable).
- problems with certain apps can be discussed in the themes and apps section, if they are published there, or in Q&A, if not.
- problems that apply to specific roms only should be discussed in the rom's development thread (except for CM), if that helps getting rid of bugs.
If you are a new user that does not yet have the permission to post in development, search if the bug or problem you want to report is already posted, if not, you can either get to the post minimum (without spamming!) to post there yourself or ask in Q&A.
It is so easy and self-explanatory, I don't see, why people keep breaking those rules.
Well the last thing I want to do is warn and/or infract people for posting questions here, but I have to say, this is ridiculous. Dozens and dozens of reports a day (if it weren't for Chef Tony this would be even worse) of questions posted here in General.
Post in the proper forum!!! We have much bigger fish to fry than to constantly have to fix your mistakes! Sorry, but at this point I am thoroughly frustrated. Official warnings and infractions from now on, especially if you've put that [Q] there and ignored the warning.
It's simple why they doesn't follow the rules... they just doesn't read the rules You can just tap I accept and done. Who likes to spend a lot of time reading rules? 90% [i think it's really 90%] here doesn't read it. But most of them just know what they can and cannot do.

I do not envy the jobs of you guys as moderators. I am often thoroughly annoyed by various rule violations to the point where I would admonish the violators, but seeing as how I have no actual power, I tend to just as often get flamed for daring to question their status as a special snowflake.

I can assure you that Moderators appreciate help. Some think they are being a pain when they report but they're really not - we can't be everywhere at once. Instead of engaging on the thread tell us and we'll handle it for you

General Thread

Hey guys. I thought that we could have a general thread here where we talk about everything between heaven and earth (without breaking the rules of course), make introductions, bash certain companies, etc. A thread of this type made a huge success over at the GS3 section so I thought we could have one here. This could also be seen as an attempt to de-clutter the General section. If you don't agree, then this thread can be locked and forgotten.
Remember to be civil; we're all part of the same community! :highfive:
