Buggy filecopy (Note 3 to PC) - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I'm trying to backup my phone before i wipe and flash latest Omega rom. But some problems..
I can copy one biiiig (3-4 gb) file from phone to PC in no time, but if i mark several folders, or a folder with like 50 small files in it (a total of ~50 mb) it just hangs on "calculating size" forever.
My setup:
PC - Windows 8.1, latest USB-drivers from Kies
Cable - Tried different ones, but right now the original USB 3.0 cable
Ports - Tried all ports on front and back of PC
Using Explorer to copy. What program do YOU use?
Note: It's the same when i try to restore to the phone..
Ideas?
Thanks

Update: tried with another PC (Windows 7), same problem there. =/

Try Teracopy.

Thanks! But TeraCopy doesn't work with MTP.
I think the best way to solve this MTP-issue (as it seems to be) is to copy Internal card to a folder on the External card, and then copy the files from that extcard via a cardreader directly to the PC, and vice versa.
Alt 2: AirDroid

It's the MTP protocol. It's a nightmare. Sluggish, unstable, slow...
I always copy big files to and from the MicroSD with a cardreader (which is a hassle as I'm using an Otterbox) and then move it internally with ESfileExplorer. (On an older version of both the firmware and ES, so it still accepts MicroSD writing.)

Hero Flashing Without USB?

I had updated my Hero to software version 2.27.651.6 and started having some problems. The dialer seemed to be slower than usual, sometimes having problems with the on-screen keyboard, and then I could no longer connect my phone to the PC via USB.
Regardless of settings on my hero (Charge only, HTC Sync, Disk Drive, Internet Sharing) all my phone will do is charge when plugged into the PC. I've tried multiple PCs (with different OS) and different cables and have run out of ideas....
I've tried factory reset to no avail.
Is there any way to flash a new ROM via recovery mode with the update.zip?
maybe with a microsd card reader to copy files to the card from the pc. thats about it
just go on ur phone to the xda site find the rom dl it and use linda file manager to move it from ur downloads folder to the root of ur sd card then boot into recovery and there u go

USB mass storage problem

I've a strange problem with USB mass storage.
After coping files to the device via USB mass storage, I can't see this files on the device. Accessing them from another computer works fine. After rebooting the device, the files are empty (size of 0 KB) or completely gone.
This problem is new. A few weeks ago, different ROMs worked :-(
I've tried several things:
- Using different Android ROMs (e.g. HyperDroid v1.6 worked two weeks ago, today not)
- Using different WinMo ROMs (e.g. Goatrip Android, EPS v5)
- Using different Radios (2.12.50.02, 2.14.50.04, 2.15.50.15)
- Reformated SDCARD
- Reflashed HSPL (1.66)
Now I'm of ideas. Any one else?
lg,
Funny
Maybe try unmounting the sd card first?
It's not possible to use USB mass storage if I unmount the SDCARD first.
I've tried more Android ROMs, cause every ROM I used before was an CM6 ROM. Tested at last with phireMOD Skinny Evo v1.5 - same problem.
And once again: no problems in WinMo.
What's wrong with my phone
It seems to be problem with SDCARD access:
- Copie file via USB to the device
- Renamed to file on the device
- Opend the file on device (from PC via USB)
- Disconnected USB connection
- Check SDCARD via ASTRO: can't see the file
- Unmounted SDCARD
- Removed SDCARD
- Inserted SDCARD
- Got message "Preparing SDCARD"
- Can't start apps
- Tried to unmount SDCARD again: system hangs
I don't understand this problem

+1.
I'm on FroyoStone V3.2
Just use a program like Android Commander to copy files, or switch back to WinMo. It's well known that USB mass storage has some serious flaws.
I'm having the same problem with Bangster too. Sometime, copying single files at a time help but I still get 0kb files.

I'm very suprised, because I never heard about this issue before. But if it's a known problem, I've to accept it

[Q] Problems with USB Drive

Well, when I connect the device to my PC in order to transfer files to it, it shows the contents of the SD folder, which is fine. I transfer my files inside, which is also fine, but when I disconnect/change the connection mode to 'charge only', I attempt to access the files on the ES Explorer, only to find that the file is not there.
If I connect it to the PC once more, the file is shown (on the PC, the Android doesn't show it).
So for now, what I do, is reboot, transfer all the files in wm, and then boot Android. But I don't think that's a solution.
I have this rom
Thanks in advance.

Galaxy SIII Moving data to and from the phone

I've tried everything I could think of:
Drop Box fails: file size limitations
Direct copy by attaching to a PC fails: IF you want to backup directories such as clockworkmod or something with lots of files, CRC's often do not match for copies
SFTP works: when permissions allow and its slow
Google Drive fails: speed and space available
SMB fails: As I have network firewall issues that block this.
SGS3 Easy UMS fails: Only external SD card
Directly mount SD card fails: Only works for external SD card.
ADB push/pull fails: only moves 1 directory, not valid for an entire set of directories, continually fails on permission issues.
I had a Atrix, which was great worked every time, plug it in mount the SD card's and go, now with a Galaxy SIII I've take I giant step backwards as far as moving data goes as there is no good fluid and stable way to backup the phone or just move data without pulling my hair out and rolling the dice. I'm sure there is some other method, but so far I've yet to find it, so hence any suggestions?
Also I'm not a fan of the new Clockworkmod plan, as it makes backing up the backups to external devices very time consuming and error prone (external backup to an SFTP server has taken 14 hours and is still running), the old single file method from 5.X, took more space but was simple to backup (and fast same backup would have been done in 20 minutes). Can you use the old method in 6.X, if so how?

I don't understand what you are trying to do. Are you just trying to transfer a large file to the phone' s internal memory? If so any of those methods you work without any problem
not sure what cwm vers your using but the cf root version allows for backups to be created on internal or external storage I also have no porblems copying the folder from the extsdcard to pc using mtp connection.
You can flash a separate recovery image with mobile Odin easily, as they are separate from kernel
solved it myself
had same problem also , could not use my s3 in usb mass storage mode with the original usb cable
but it do work when i use the usb cable from my old nokia phone ! you should try with some other cable

Interesting thought, I'll give it a try. Maybe it will help with the desktop transfer, but the real problem is getting 1-to-1 transfers without any conversion from the internal SD, I can copy the directory to the ext SD and then remove it and copy, but as stated that's not practical. Note I often push 3 or 4GB a day and removing the case for each one, would never work. Worse the desktop method does not work under linux (and yes I've tried to get it to work, but its unstable and very slow).

Never had that problem with multiple clockwork transfers .
Copy and paste all my files no problem .

Consider using usb otg and move data to pen drive.

extSD stealth copy issue

Please help. After connecting my Note 3 to the PC (Win 7) with USB cable, I'm waiting for the Phone and Card folders to pop up in the MS file explorer and then copying some files to a folder on the Card. Everything looks normal on the PC screen. They show up in the destination folder and I can see properties of these files with the right mouse button as usual. However, when I'm opening that same folder on the phone with the Solid Explorer (or any other file manager app) files are gone. USB connection is still there, and I see new files/folder from the PC. After switching to the "Phone" folder and back to the "Card" on PC and navigating to that destination folder - I can see that new files are gone. Anyone could explain me what's going on? Stock Verizon Lollipop, no root.
Turned out to be defective T-Flash, which went Write protected to prevent data loss. Replaced it with Sandisk lifetime warranty. The same has happened after a while with another T-Flash... Hoping the batch was defective. Though it could be the fancy USB reader I'm using, it's died too.
