Digitizer failed... Now seems to be working fine again? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone ever experience this?
Was on a long trip with the wife, phone was working overtime on navigation, hot too hot charging and navigating. Was in usable for a few days.
This morning seems to be fine so far... Anyone ever seen this?

Question is kinda hard to understand but I think your phone might have gotten to hot which has never happened to me how long you had it did you purchase brand new or used has screen ever been replaced just goggle the problem see if anyone else has that problem.. ?

Yeah I have that similar problems with my N4.. It started with ghost touches in the nav bar area. Now the touchscreen of nav bar area has totally stopped working. I'm using an app Ultimate Dynamic Navbar to navigate around the phone.
Ghost touches also occur once in a while

[[Q]] Strange touchscreen issue. Widespread? Does this occur to your Atrix?

I discovered a weird little thing with my touchscreen a while back and I was wondering if anyone can replicate this. I would like to know if I'm alone on this issue or if anyone else can replicate this.
The issue is that when my Atrix is sitting on a FLAT surface (i.e. table, desk), the touchscreen works perfectly.
When the Atrix is laying on a SOFT surface (couch, bed, pillow), the screen becomes unresponsive.
If anyone could download a multitouch app (search "multitouch" on Market - Multitouch Tester is a nice one) and try this out, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!!
O.O strange man, are you using the original ROM?
lol something similliar happens to me, i think its just that it looses proper contact when its on a soft surface...

Thanks for the reply, guys.
I wonder if anyone is able to not repl. icate this..
Im not in stock ROM atm, but this happens after a fresh sbf flash as well.
Anyone not able to do this?
Yeah I noticed this a few weeks back when i was lying in the bed trying to browse the internet. Every time i attempted a one finger scroll, it kept registering it as a two finger pinch-to-zoom.
This happens to me on retail stock 1.26, 1.57, and 1.83

It's probably just sleepy.
I can not duplicate it, I downloaded a multitouch tester and tried it on various sofas, chairs, and pillows, and did not notice any strange behavior.

Tao Man, thanks for trying to replicate this phenomenon.
I really appreciate it!
Now I know that this is not a "feature" of the Atrix.
A similar feature that does happen across all of the Atrix devices is when you hold your finger for 10+ seconds on the same spot on the screen, the touch will stop registering and the screen will malfunction until the finger is lifted off the screen.
Before 83, this would happen to me all of the time, but now on 83, my Atrix is superduper responsive on all surfaces

This becomes a particular problem for me while I'm using touchscreen controls in various emulators, although it doesn't seem to happen when I'm using a virtual joystick with only one finger on the screen at a time, i.e. while playing Dodge This in PewPew. It's worst in racing games where I'm holding down the accelerator button almost constantly while moving the virtual joystick at the same time. I'm using the 2.3.4 HKTW ROM; is this a physical problem with the touchscreen, or might it be resolved in a future software/firmware update?

From what I've read on the Motorola Forums, it's supposed to be a "feature" that helps users.
It SOMEWHAT makes sense, but the real problem here is that there should be a feature where the user can turn this off.
I don't believe it will be changed with any official software/firmware updates from Motorola. We are stuck

Thanks for letting me know, jarsh92.
Hopefully, if mine does go bad, it will be before warranty expires.
Sounds like an electrical grounding problem. The EVO 4G suffered this same issue.

Touch screen occasionally messed up

Hi,
I've got some weird problems with my N1. I searched around but couldn't find the solution.
I've tried CM7 stable 7.0.3 and Nighties 87 builds, and this problem happens to both.
1. When I'm running an app, such as "plants vs zombies", or typing with keyboard, when I touch a spot, it thinks I touch another spot. For example, when I touch key "D", it may give me a "space". When I try to place a plant on the left side, it puts it on the right side.
2. When I'm watching videos with MoboPlayer, the screen is locked sometimes (maybe this is a setting that I don't know, how do I turn this feature off?). When I press the "menu" button, it was supposed to unlock the screen, but it actually unlocks and locks back and forth continuely, and the phone keeps vibrating.
All the problems will be gone if I just lock the phone and unlock again. However, it will come back after a while.
Please help and thank you very much!

Yep, always been a problem with the Nexus One and often on capacitive touchscreens when plugged into a charger. You've stated the known workaround.

I see. Thanks.
Just turn off the screen then back on, it clears this bug and only takes a second.
All nexus ones have this issue.
I traveled from Singapore to the States for about 2 weeks in May and I suddenly had this issue too. I never had it for the 16 months I owned it back here in Singapore. And when I got back after my 2 weeks trip, the problem never occurred at all again.
I'm guessing that it has to do with either the temperature or humidity levels.

I agree with you. I think it has to do with humidity specifically because it happens only when I just left from the bathroom (taking a shower) and there is a vapor, then the touch gets crazy!

Iv'e only had it a few times in about 16 months. But, it's very dry here in Vegas wih very low humidity!
I've had this issue from day one with the nexus one. For me atleast it triggers everytime I have the phone plugged in and I'm using the phone at a 90 degree angle, like sideways in bed, very strange.

But never happened in other conditions.
This happens on mine too, but if the problem is the humidity, so why lock the screen and unlock it solves?

southern china. occurs occasionally also. yet not so often these days. more often when charging. it seems that temperature matters alot, not sure about humidity.

I have similar problems as mentioned irregularly, but sometimes switching the screen off and on doesn't fix it at all. It's not very humid where I live (except when it's raining). Has anyone else considered replacing the digitizer (the touchscreen panel) of the phone, and if this would fix the problem?

I sent my N1 back to HTC for warranty repair because of this issue. They did something and sent it back saying all good now. The issue occurs less frequently now but it is there.
I suspect there is something in the trackball area that generates EMF of certain qualities (frequency?) and it interferes with the screen circuitry due to poor shielding and close proximiy.

this is definitely a design flaw of N1, the touchscreen controller chip just SUCKS

Anybody have any issues with touch screen performance being intermittent? I'm certain it might be a software bug, because once I turn the screen off then back on it works no problem. It's like the touch sensor develops dead spots and locking and unlocking it resets them.

My n7 seemed to die on the first day, even though it was plugged in to the mains and displaying charging in the top corner. After this it wouldn't reboot or even display the battery icon. Further fiddling the next day got it booting again and charging fine. I am now wondering if it had some issue like the one you describe. Either way, it is booked for replacement partly for these issues and partly as the screen is rising at the left hand edge.

unresponsive screen when warm ?

hey guys, does anyone have issues with the screen becoming unresponsive when warm ? I first noticed after leaving the unit on charge in the sunlight, screen up. basically the screen needs more than a touch, sometimes it doesn't respond without a firm hand. after playing with a few different kernels this is definately an issue for me. even on stock if i play a game for long enough, heat will lead to the screen becoming unresponsive ??? stock rom and kernel is where I'm at right now and the issue is still present ? any thoughts guys ?

I have the problem where the screen will become less responsive after using it for a while, but not completely unresponsive. It's hard to notice at times, I have "show touches" enabled to help me see it. Cycling the screen off then back on fixes it. I've been hoping that someone would be able to definitively say if it's an individual hardware defect or a software bug. Seems like a lot of people have this issue.
It's especially annoying when playing a touch game that requires fast, accurate inputs.

Are we 100% sure it's hardware? I find it odd locking/unlocking really quick would remedy a hardware issue.
I'm thinking the problem may be more widespread than it seems. It's easy to not notice it. I only noticed when I had problems controlling a few precision input, fast-paced games.

ERRATIC nexus 4 tocuhscreen. Ghost touches

so my screen started with this crazy thing. theres a dead line on top of the screen. and touchscreen litteraly goes crazy. opens and closes apps, zooms in and out, swipes. this stops when i turn the screen of and back on, temporarely.
the phone has never been dropped or damaged in any way. just started randomly. i've tried 4.4.2, 4.2.2, custom roms, franco kernel,
flashing stock rom via fastboot fixes it,.
dead line desapears, everything goes back to normal. but when i leave it over night charging. the problem revives. i've seen this problem in youtube and google forum.. with the same deadline on the upper screen..
I Made a touchscreen text and everythiing is fine. but when the deadline appears fails

Could be a grounding issue. When I use chargers that aren't probably made I'll have that problem. Try using another wall charger and another wall socket.
Well, mine it's definitely the screen. I enabled screen touches in developer options and there is a dead rectangular area across the top of the screen that doesn't register most touches...and occasionally sporadic ghost touches start erratically pressing this area not allowing me to touch elsewhere. I'll likely have to start looking at repair options.

happened to me with my previous phone lg optimus black and kind of happened with my nexus. in the previous phone i had a lot of ghost touch. they started happening one every phew days and after six month i had ghost touches every single day rendering the phone almost unusable. got it for guarantee and they changed the touch screen. the problem started again on the new digitizer with some sporadic ghost touches, on the same day! after that i bought nexus. after a while i saw ghost touches too but it's rare. for me the ghost touches happened when i was playing a game called tubing and with time happened every where. tubing is a game where a lot of quick touches is required. now that i stopped playing that game everything seems fine
a friend of mine had this problem some time ago with htc hd2. the service told him that this kind of touch technology has problems in warm weather(i live in cyprus and in the summer it gets up to 42 43 degree celcious) .

nexus 4 ghost touches and dead screen.
Believe it out not, the crazy ghost touch and dead screen areas are NOT the screen. It is the battery. It sounds crazy, but it is true. The bad party is, nexus 4 batteries are old. Buying a new one won't necessarily solve the problem. I would buy the brand name this party battery.I have had bad new oem batteries die to their age.
Hello guys ley me join this party of ghost
As my device is also doing same weird thing like unnecessary touch without my feedback in most of third party app, setting app and in play store it goes crazy and start clicking on any option available without my touch
But the thing which is making me frustrate that this happens only on custom kernel as I tried all with stock google factory image 5.1 and this problem arise just a few days back and I was on custom ROM with custom kernel before 5.1 update everything was fine but after 5.1 update I mean custom 5.1 ROM with custom kernel this problem arises now if I m going back to 5.0.2 custom ROM with custom kernel my device become crazy and just start clicking any option in setting app I m totally stuck with Google factory image and stock kernel
Please guys if any one has pepper solution for this ghostly touch help me so that I can enjoy custom ROM and kernel :crying:
Mouse BlueTooth (without adapter)
I found the cheapest possible solution, as the replacement digitizer is not profitable.
I bought a mouse BlueTooth (without adapter) without problems and now I can move the cursor around the screen over the entire surface.
N4 is not for me everyday device.
In my case, I bought a mouse i-Tec Bluetouch 243.
