Moto Support Rant of the Day
Sent in my 64gb Motorola purchased Nexus 6 due to the half screen freezing issue. I happily got my replacement at 9am this morning. I turn the bad boy on and to my amazement they sent me a 32gb. On the phone with the right now. I'm sure they'll make it right, just a bit of an annoyance in the mean time! Haha. First world problems. /R

Be prepared to get emails every 12 hours from now until they receive your device back. Good luck, they suck to deal with.

The first time i did the "return my phone then get a replacement" deal, but that took close to 2 weeks. I'm doing the send at the same time and put a hold on my card. This is getting ridiculous. I will have some fun with the survey I was told i would be receiving!
Update: No deposit required. They are sending the 64gb out on the morning. Ill return the 32gb when i get that. Guess they're trying to make it right.

Thanks @TonyStark for this! I loved the lounge you created over in the G3 forums when I used that device. Nice to see it here now too. Great place for some off topic as well as on topic discussion.

Agreed. It seems to work out well and people can do most anything here (as you know)... well, that which doesn't break any XDA rules:laugh:

hiya mate moved your post here, no need to start another.
btw rant is one of the topics:good:

Well, I guess I'll start it off with a little speculation. First, I don't generally like to speculate but here goes.
What do you think 5.1.1 might bring to our shamu when it finally drops? I think, and hope it will finally put an end to all the variants we currently have in 5.1, i.e. D, E, H, M and I. It would certainly curtail a lot of questions users are posting here. But who knows, Google could start the whole saga over again. Does anyone think that things are changing with the Nexus line catering to the different carriers now as opposed to the way things were in the past?
Also, this update may address the memory leak plaguing some devices. Have any of you seen or experienced this leak? I have not. Are there any other bugs you experience that you hope are addressed?

I know that there are different versions of "Google play services" and that there is a potential problem with one of the versions causing battery drain. Can someone point me in the direction of which version I should be on?

Awesome... That is the one that I am on! Thank you!

I absolutely LOVE this phone and its huge screen, but the battery is a complete disappointment. It can't give me a complete day of use... I could use my old OnePlus One for 2 days with 7 hours of screen on time, but my Nexus 6 can't arrive at night before being charged with just 3-4 hours of screen on time.
P.s.: now I'm on stock + Lean Kernel, but I've also tried different ROM + kernel combinations...

I'm 100% stock and I easily get 5 to 6 hours SOT every day. Plus, with turbo charging, if I get too low, 15 to 20 minutes on charge and I'm good for whatever time I need.
Everybody uses their phone differently though. Perhaps you should look into a wakelock detector and see what it is, specifically, that's raping your battery.

ROMs: stock, Chroma, Euphoria, OptiPop... and others, maybe.
Kernels: stock, Code_Blue, franco, Lean.
A great phone with a disappointing battery life... shame on you Google/Motorola! :crying:

I am enjoying the phone, too. My initial hesitations were the size, and the display not being as bright as others (especially since I use it in my car a lot for GPS navigation). Neither has been much of an issue. The size and one handed use issue is so overblown compared to the Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus.......
One little issue --- the phone has completely frozen up on me two or three times in the month or so that I have had it. Anyone else experience this? Is it the memory leak?

Listening to Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff". Reminds me of touching the back of the Nexus6 while charging!

some small things worrying me before i purchase a nexus one.

ok so i am 99% sure i will buy the nexus one, i just have some concerns.
for one i have been hearing ever since the phone was released about the dust issue, also heard that htc knows about this and would fix what was needed. so the qeustion about this is if this is a valid reason for me to hold of on buying a nexus one?
the second thing is that i am not sure i want to root yet (probably willl^^) but the concern is that the stock kernel as i understand it only supports half of the ram in the nexus one leaving the other half useless. will google deploy a kernel update anytime soon and how much does it show when using the stock device that such a big part of the ram isn´t used?
thanks in advance
ignore the fud... hundreds of thousands of people are very happy with their stock N1..
if you get it, and are not happy with stock... you got options.
can't say that about the other contenders.
i got mine yesterday.
the screen itself seems fine. the screen cover isn't peeling up but i have a rather large spec of dust under it? no idea if it was there from when it was built or magically worked it's way under there...
good thing it has a 12 month hardware warranty i guess? i wonder if unlocking the bootloader will void the warranty for something so obviously unrelated.

just got off the phone with HTC support. if you root/unlock the boot loader the entire warranty is voided. even if it has dust under the screen.
hopefully someone figures out how to relock it soon..
but ANY dust under the screen will be enough of a reason for a hardware replacement within the 12 month warranty period if you haven't done anything to void the warranty.
I've had mine since launch with no dust issues. The RAM thing was originally brought up by Google developers who said they are working on implementing it.
Also had mine since launch with no dust issues or any other bugs! It still flies with the current ram (should get more ram update from google soon). Play with it a while before you want to root!

does the N1 really only have 256MB of ram currently accessible? that would explain why i only tend to have ~110MB of ram free after shutting all applications down.
and seriously, 10 minutes in the hacking and development sections or the theme area and you want to root.

Been very happy. Never had a problems with dust or the stock rom. Plenty of customization options out there for the stock N1's too.
Go for it and it you have smooth sailing after a few months maybe you'll root it.

the dust issue is a very isolated and rare case... you will get a new phone no charges toward you if you have this issue...
as for the stock kernel, there is plenty of memory... i ran stock for the first month and a half before i rooted to the dark side... never had a big slow down issue and even then just get a task manager... i was getting like 100mb of ram on stock with almost everything closed

Yes on only 256MB active on the N1! There is a hack in development if you need more and can't wait for the ota.
True about the fun after root for most, but this was the op's 1st post.
Two things... what does "fud" mean? As for the 256mb, it hasn't been an issue yet. My phone's logged over 220 hours of uptime without any slowdowns and I haven't killed a single task in that time. Stock ROM..not rooted and locked bootloader. I'm confident that Google will update the kernel soon...hopefully along with a better tweak to the 3G connectivity.
Thanks for all your answers! Im definently buying i nexus one soon was thinking about getting desire instead but hate sense and the droid eris still has not been rooted so the same could happen with the desire.
Thanks again!

So far, not a single hiccup, Sense UI redraw/reload, nothing. Has been completely and utterly stable. Phone is used almost 24/7 as my daily driver and gets pushed pretty hard constantly.
I'm a believer .
And fantastic battery life to boot!
I am looking very forward to SR 4.0 I have heard rumors that it is in the making an if so this would be great!

No reason not to really, unless you're very technically uninclined. Even then...the process couldn't be more simple.
Up to 182 hours now with 92 hours of awake time. Seeing excellent battery life as well throughout the day for this phone.
SkyRaider is fantastic, I've been running SR Athena myself as my daily driver for a month-ish now and have zero complaints. SR is a great ROM, too bad there's only a few updates en route for us down the road.

How exactly is it a fake?
132 hours of UP TIME is not 132 hours UNPLUGGED.
That's 132 hours (now 205) without a reboot. Not without being charged.
I'm not really sure what you're getting at here trying to call me out saying it is fake. What is so fake about it? Enlighten me.
And on another note that is actually relevant,
Hard to argue with that kind of battery life...and in a low-signal area to boot.

People post battery stats to show battery life ..that is .amount of battery left after so many hours awake time.....NOT to show how long your phone has gone without a reboot. Frequent auto reboot is not an issue with most Roms. Next time when you attach battery stats....clarify that you are not really showing battery life.

I posted the screenshot of the page to show total uptime, and even said "Up to 182 hours now with 92 hours of awake time. Seeing excellent battery life as well throughout the day for this phone." If that didn't get the point home in conjunction with the word "stable" then oh well, misunderstandings happen. The majority of the posters in the thread certainly seemed to get the point. Crashing and reboots seem to be more of a problem with a few different ROMs so I was pleasantly surprised with the stability of Skyraider in comparison.
I just find it curious that when one person misunderstood, a consecutive few more decided to jump on the bandwagon without thinking before they spoke. Interesting .
That's how I took it from the beg, the bandwagon just helped reinforce my misinterpretation... glad u found a rom that makes u happy, seriously, its a great feeling. And don't let the haters get to ya so much
I have 454 hours uptime with mikmik's "incredibly R-Engineered Z 1.1" rom right now... Just sayin'
Although as soon as Skyraider comes out with a Z rom I'll be back!
SkyRaider is pure awesomeness.

He was with me in the worst of times (Sony x10), and the best of times (HTC sensation, Samsung Galaxy S2).
He helped me not to lose my way (GPS), and always had something funny to say! (Youtube, twitter, joke of the day via google)
He always disliked fellow OS's that thought they had something he didn't (apple, blackberry, and most of all.....windows)
But he was NEVER a hater.....
He was the original TRAIL BLAZER, as we can all attest to his sense of voyeurism, and his want; no NEED, to be the pioneer and game changer in the washed out industry of cellular.
How can we forget his track ball that notified us who was contacting us? Or was that his way of saying.......... "Don't you forget about me." (Simple minds)
In my mind he will always be number 1. And his good friends CM7, MIUI have and will always have fond things to say about him.
I remember Steve Kondik saying once "Do you remember that one time he forgot to flash the gapps??? How embarrassing, HAHAHAHA!" It wasn't funny back then, but as time went on, the humour of the situation began to shine thru! I saw my N1 crack a smile......
He went thru numerous surgeries, swap-outs, re-boots, and firmware upgrades. And lived to tell another story.
He loved desert. Ones worth mentioning were eclair, frozen yogurt, and gingerbread. A funny thing about N1; he was always the first to the table with spoon in hand.
As we speak he is being sold for parts on Craigslist. However he was always greater than the sum of his parts.
Thank you N1!

How do you like it so far, coming from N1 to the GN, Ive been debating on it for a while now. Mines not dead yet got Medroid ICS running currently, but in the future when the prices drop and there are a few used ones running around, Is it a good phone worth getting. Basically what i'm asking is from your personal preferences a list of pros and cons about it.

One of the issues with the n1 was the lack of internal memory. That ALWAYS drove me bananas. That ASIDE, it still went toe-to-toe with the heavy weights out there! My thoughts are because it was meant to be a developers phone. If you were to look at the specs of the n1 against other phones in its prime time, you would think that it would not compare. Build quality was awesome, and with android it was a match made in heaven (thanks Cyanogenmod) .
I thought a bit about what phone to get next. Creeping thru XDA helped my decision on the gnex as well as the nexus one. Both devices had/have HUGE Developer support (see cyanogenmod, aokp , miui, fransisco Franco just to name a few......)
This was my deciding factor in choosing the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. As well as ICS outta the box with hardware acceleration.
Did I forget anything, lol?!

It was a good poem, but can't really agree to it being a sad day. I don't know, I guess I don't wholeheartedly attach to any phone I buy. Sure, it's a great phone and I don't know what I would do without it, but I wouldn't mind switching it for a better one any day of the week. Though, if my only alternative was an iPhone 4S, I'd stick with the Nexus.
Regarding the internal memory. That doesn't bother me much with the use of an A2SD script. But the seemingly unsolvable issue with not being able to download big market apps is one thing that really drives me crazy.

Post your battery life results!!!

I've made a thread like this in the Sensation forums and it was quite popular so I thought I'd make one here as well, as I'm really curious how far can the Xoom really go in terms of battery life !
So the general format of how the posts should look like should be this:
Running (stock/stock+rooted/custom(name) rom) on my (model).
Here is a picture (insert battery life screen shot).
I'm (undervolting or no undervolting)
PS: Make sure you don't charge your xoom as it makes the results invalid and useless!
OK! My turn:
I'm running Stable EOS 3 custom rom on my MZ604 WiFi only Xoom.
Here is a picture of my battery results:
online photo sharing
And this one:

No undervolting was done.
The only question left is, can you beat me?!
I usually don't take pictures of stuff like this, so next time when I get over a week of usage on my XOOM I will post it here. I should note I put it in airplane mode and have the WiFi and bluetooth on all the time, though I believe the WiFi does turn off after the device goes into sleep. It's a MZ601, uses Team EOS nightly builds always on the latest. Stock speeds and yeah.

A whole week? Isn't that a bit exaggerated? Mind you, I just got the xoom so I can't talk, but a week? That's a nice result.

I guess it goes to show how little I actually know about this tablet That is just simply amazing
With regards,

Pretty much, I don't use it much, maybe one or two hours most each day.
Mine is a bit bias as I'm forever flashing and trying to edit/theme and therefore loads of time is spent in recovery/rebooting/'android upgrading'
but anyway, here it is:
CM10 Nightlies

Sure mate, just under 3 hours, 2hr 55mins to be precise.
I generally think I get pretty decent battery life out of my xoom

The only part really worth posting is the screen on time.
This damn thing can literally go weeks technically "on" because there is practically no battery drain when its "asleep."

In some ways that is true. However, what if somebody just charged it to 100% and played with it non-stop, so that the screen on time went to 12 hours. You say,"That's amazing". But some people don't have the time to play with them for 12 hours straight So the overall time adds towards the actual battery life, since it still loses some battery life during the sleep or the night. Take me for example, I play with it 3 hours a day and can go for as long as 2 days before charging it again.
I've said this before, but I'll say it again. This tablet is amazing !

Here are some pictures:
As I stated before I don't use my XOOM much, but I did use it a lot for music streaming to my bluetooth headphones and also watched a movie on it. Lol
And oh I had about ~35% left
EOS 3 Stable. No performance mods. Usually see a week at least between charges.

© «Get best battery life & screen touch fix - EUROPEAN 815 only»

For information...
I installed the latest c firmware (d in build prop) with LG flash tool (NOT UPGRADE), a CLEAN install.
wiped(factory reset) before flashing, then in flash tool cleared and made a CLEAN install and factory reset after to be safe (3 resets) .
Now I get very few screen misses, and screen on time 4.5 hours.
Before this I got screen on time maximum 2,5 hours.
Just wanted to let you guys/Girls in on this as it worked perfect for me and my wife.
Thanks for the placebo

Think I've been around enough to make an accurate judgement, add I'm an recognised developer, I made a hell of a lot of mods and ROM's all developed for two things only battery life with good speed.
You don't have to believe me, what matters is for me, add I got a much better phone.
Hi smaberg,
I was wondering if you are on the Euro 815 version of the G4? Based on your post I'm guessing you are? As a guy who knows what he/she is doing, I was wondering if you could make a flashable zip of the version d firmware? I have a mac and my understanding is you need a pc for the LG flash tool?
Figured I would ask and would greatly appreciate if you could help!!
Do you have the same set of apps installed as you did before the firmware and resets?
I saw better battery results on my second G4 vs my first, some of which I assume was because I installed a lot less apps on the second unit. Which seems reasonable to me.
What device is the OP using?

I'm on international 815 (Euro).
Still using the exact same apps(didn't use LG backup Restore as it brings back the old draining Barry problem from my old backup).
And NO I can't make an zip, as it would skip some important steps. I mean I can make it, NO problem, but then you will end up with the exact same problem add the old.
hey Smaberg, can you outline the step to flash the new version? I'm using 815, but since i'm residing in Asia, my phone is not seeing any upgrades.
Yeah i also like to get exact steps you made to flash

lol at 3 factory resets..just makes me want to skip the whole ordeal
it's 2015 and google (+manufacturers) still can't get their **** together even when using the most powerful hardware available
android 5.x has been utter failure imo.
@smaberg, 4.5 hrs screenon is nothing to be specially proud on, yesterday i had 6hrs with 12.5hrs on battery. Device is H815 and firmware is v10c howecer, i got my device on saturday and did just root it this night... we will see how it behaves now.

Me too, but I did one before flash, one with the flash tool as I chose to make a CLEAN install, and the last mostly to be sure.

I know, but compared to before, with only 2 hours, sometimes even less worth stock a and b I'm pretty ☺ happy, now I'm going to deactivate some junk and see the results, and when I'm done I'll share it.
I'm trying to get the best battery without root, then with root and some of mine scripts and files mod. And we'll see where we stand. In the end maybe an ROM pure made for battery as in the old days. If some still want this? I thought/think people mostly want bling bling and speed...

Hi,
I would definitely be interested in a battery life based ROM. I find that premium phones have more than enough power you need (if youre not a gamer) so as long as the UI is smooth battery life is more important to me.
Regards,
Ravi
Only used 4% battery and got this screen on time. With everything on.

That's weird, you have the economy saver logo activated but still have 62% of battery life...

You can turn it on manually which some people do to prolong battery life rather than just when on low battery.

Correct I have it on pretty much all the time. It doesn't effect anything I do on the phone and I get a lot better battery life as you can see combined with the use of App Ops, DisableService, and greenify

I don't use it because of the annoying orange colour change... How did you get rid of that??
