Sounds like the rom is corrupt or not present, you would need to kies or odin back to 4.4.4 and reapply.
If you cant do anything BUT download mode, you gotta get odin and go to sammobile download your phones official rom and apply it. After this you can attemp the OTA update again.
PLEASE READ THE GUIDE CAREFULLY as this procedure is risky if done wrong or on a bad usb connection.
Lollipop uses a new system it's not a normal update.

Don't use Kies , use Odin.
Kies can easily break your phone.
Just use Google for ROM searching and install them over Odin.

Good to hear it's fixed, Kies is a "supported" program so when it screws up you usually can get it fixed for free. Odin is not (even though it works better)

[Q] JI6 update thru Kies Mini... can't even get passed the "upgrade Phone" screen
I downloaded Kies Mini and uninstalled Kies regular and followed all the instructions given to run the JI6 update. I have run it two different compyters running different OS (WIN7 and XP) with the same results. I get to the Phone upgrade option and the phone upgrade option is greyed out. After several tries I gave up. Any suggestions? I apologize if this has been covered but I searched everywhere looking for a remedy.
Did you flash any previous unofficial updates?
Because I was having the same problem and I had to go back to stock.
When you open Kies and plug in your phone check what it tells you your phone has or if it even recognizes your phone.
The greyed out part didn't with for me until I went back to stock from JI6 and JI2.
It didn't even recognize my phone with JI2.

unless the battery is 100% full it won't show

HTC has it right. If it says unrecognized phone/device you most likely need to flash back to JFD thru Odin (That's what I did) to get the Kies Mini update. Before you do that though, Put your phone in Kies Mode and turn on Debugging. I know that has worked for a few people so far.

Yes it will, you just have to be charged at >65%. Please don't use your first post as a stepping stone for ignorance and making false claims.
@ HTC - indeed I took the JI5 update a few weeks ago when they posted it then shortly after advised not to take it...
In Kies I get the "unregistered device" notice at the top
@ Buddha - After putting my Vibrant into keys mode, how do I access "debugging"?
do you have a link to Odin? I'll try that if the other doesn't jive.
Thanks for the advice

Get Froyo D/L'd from Kies, but fails to "upgrade"

I'm new here and was wondering if someone with more knowledge than myself could possibly help me. I've been trying all morning to download and upgrade Froyo for my Vibrant through kies mini. It took me awhile before finding out I had to use the TW Launcher to get it working, but after that I got it to download just fine. After it downloads thru kies, my phone gets this little warning sign that says "downloading, do not turn off target!!!" and has a "men at work" kinda symbol with the little android dude shoveling some stuff. And on kies it says it's starting to "upgrade", but after a minute or so of it sitting there doing nothing it goes to another screen that says:
"Result
SGH-T959 could not be upgraded.
1. Detach and reattach the mobile phone's battery.
2. Reboot the mobile phone, and then try the upgrade again.
*if the Mobile phone fails to reboot, please use "mobile phone emergency recovery".
I am able to reboot the phone, I took the battery out after shutting it down and tried again, got it downloaded and the same thing happened again.
I'm at a loss for what to do now. Can anyone please help me?
Thank you in advance!
someone posted this in one of the threads. not sure if this is correct, but you should wait for the OTA update which is "official"
but the thing posted throught t-mobile says "we are not releasing this OTA, you need to d/l thru kies"
Am I missing something???
well i guess a lot of people were misinformed. i personally am not gonna do the update, but you should ODIN back to stock 2.1 JFD or JI6 and go from there. or contact tmobile once you're back to stock.
sorry
I am stock. The only thing I've ever done to it is the JI6 OTA Update.
You can use ODIN
Just extract this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919687 and put the .tar in the PDA section of ODIN
Make sure you have a COM port showing (yellow)
Make sure Repartition is NOT checked
Hit start

The word on the official T-Mobile forum here, plainly states it will NOT be sent OTA, only through mini Kies. They may have lied, but it would be an official lie.

Forget Kies, Flash the KA6 update through Clockwork Mod instead. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919760
Instructions on how to flash through Clockwork Mod is in the Vibrant Bible here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771111

I had the same problem at first - I was upgrading from stock, non-rooted ji6. It just died during the download process and phone would only boot to the black screen of death men at work" kinda symbol with the little android dude shoveling some stuff. I pulled the battery, put it back in, re-connected phone and held down volume up and volume down. I was able to use emergency recovery, the upgrade process completed and I am now on ka6. I guess this is a glitch with kies or maybe kies+ka6 upgrade. I was using XP PRO SP3 but others running Vista and 7 have reported similar problems.
I have also read that there are problems upgrading from jfd and it's recommended to upgrade to ji6 then ka6 if you're going to use kies.
interesting... So when It freezes like that, I shouldn't close out of everything and reboot my phone. I should leave the kies thing up, and use the emergency recovery?
But the consensus seems to be that I should just root and flash a 2.2 rom, eh?
I'm getting almost the same thing on my T959 through Kies Mini, except I never even get to the download, just straight to the detach/reboot instructions. What a waste of time.
Yea. I said screw it... Rooted running Auxura 2.2.7.2 now.... Soooooo sweet!!!

[Q] software update

I went to the place where Ibought my galaxy s4 gt i9500, and asked why I didn't get the software update(i currently have 4.2.2)
So this guy tells me that my s4 is old( I bought it on may 21th 2013)and doesn't have Fota Inside so I never will update it
and I will stick to 4.2.2 unless I flashed it into a rom( its rooted but I dont want to flash it into a rom).
So I really wont get the software update.
Dude ! Is ur i9500 real or a chinese copy ? If its real u ll get the 4.3 update via kies in few days..

I checked for an update and the update failed so I got an unroot app and verified that I am not rooted. I already did a factory reset for a separate issue but the update is still failing. What else can I try?

Sorry i was going to respond to you but Opéra had crashed UU.
So the best you can do is to do yourself the update of the firmwire.
The most simple way would be to find for beginning the official rom stock for Android 4.3 for i9500.
Then download Odin (don t pass by Kies honestly it s not good and slow).
Make sûre Your drivers for s4 are installed on Your PC.
Once done turn off your phone.
After turn it on while pressing all in same time the following buttons ower+Volume DOWN (not HIGH) and Home button.
You should to come in the download mode.
Plug Your phone on Your pc who have Odin installed.
VERY IMPORTANT !: Be sûre all the tasks for Kies are shut down! All of them !
Open Odin ans pour Your phone on pc .Normally you should see the square in the left corner show a color (blue etc).
If Yes it s OK it worked.
Presse the PDA button after to search the rom you have download juste before.
Once it's done verify that Auto-reboot and F reset time are ticked.
Chen....push Start.
Waiting for Odin who will be flashing Your update.
It take about 5 minutes something l'ile that.
Acter Your phone will reboot by himself.
Just wait a bit Your phone finish to update and out everything in place.
Hère it is ! Ylu have done the update yourself!^^

Where do I go next if odin isn't recognizing my phone when its I download mode? I have the Samsung drivers and I've connected and reconnected my phone, tried every version of odin, I hear the sound my computer makes that lets me know it recognizes the connection, but odin doesn't see it. Don't know what to do now.

If neither Kies nor Odin recognise it then I recommend that you throttle the man who sold you that phone claiming it was a Galaxy S4. Samsung would never put anything in a phone that would stop it from EVER getting OTAs. It's a fake, end of story.

Its real but rooted, but my moms s4 not rooted didnt get the software update

kind of bricked my phone! need help!!

So i wanted to root my phone, following a tutorial on androidsoul(i cant post link yet i just googled edge plus root)
after like 20 tries to flash with odin it finally passes(dunno why. nothing changed the last 5 tries... and odin tooks about 1h for the flash..)
finally their i decided to add some lines in the build.prop to tweak the ram management -.-
so heres where the **** begins. The device bootlooped, so i downloaded the firmware for my device nummer with the vodafone branding and tried to flash it.
it fails and the phone gets some kind of bricket i get a message i need to emergency firmware recovery with some kind of samsung crap software, which doesnt support my device(neither kies 3).
good thing i can still enter the download mode but when i try to flash, odin stucks at setupconnection or iniialazion or get pit mapping or sboot.bin or cm.bin in this momen at boot.img .. just somewhere everytime.
I already deleted kies and tried all my ports.
any ideas??

That should work though failing that you may have to get it to a dealer to look into.
if not insurance,,,, 3 seconds in a microwave,,,, claim,,,, done
Disclaimer: I do not condone putting phones in microwaves unless its totally awesome

How old is it? - repair/replacement is looking likely
Have you tried KEIS on another machine?
has the machine been rebooted yet? (old trick)

I would be tempted to take it back to where you got it and ask them to replace it... its up to you if you say it was because you were trying to root it or not...
If it t'were me I would blame an Update or App Corruption - though I am a gifted linguist (read: Bull****ter) and can normally get things sorted, your average shop employee wont know enough about rooting (hopefully) or KNOX (hopefully) so they will just replace it.
But thats not a Guarantee (as with all changes you make its your device and your responsibility if it goes wrong, warranty void etc etc etc)
I'm hopeful you are able to get this sorted and keep us posted if its replaced etc

Try holding volume down+home+power buttons. When the phone reboots again, it should go into the download mode. When in the download mode, you should flash a compatible ROM via Odin (possibly from sammobile.com). This should fix the problem.

There are no good methods, from what I read. You can try the method described in this thread, but many people seem to have come to the conclusion that it's not worth it. It makes the phone laggy, among other things.
One thing that you can do to potentially make the phone work better is to change the original T-mobile ROM (G935TUVS4BRA1) to a brandless version (G935UUES4BRA1) via Odin, which you can also get from sammobile.com. I did it and it works better than the original, though I still cannot use the damned phone because it's network locked to T-mobile and I use Orange now...
Good luck.

@an531, I got my T-Mobile Galaxy S7 Edge unlocked by https://www.gsmzambia.com/.
They flashed a modified unlock firmware, then I flashed U firmware over it and my phone is still unlocked.
You need a Windows PC with Teamviewer to do this.
