Android 5.1 bugs - X 2014 General

Anyone else who has Android 5.1 on their Moto X Pure Edition noticing these bugs?
1. screen glitches
2. Phone app sometimes opens and crashes
2A. Contacts app also sometimes crashes
3. while on wifi, won't load anything over the internet; web pages, app content, etc... or it will be very sluggish(No it is not my internet, have never had problems until I updated to 5.1)

1. No screen glitches.
2. Apps crashed once in a week.
2A. Contacts OK.
3. WiFi frequently sluggish.

What screen glitches? Can you get a screenshot?

I'm not experiencing any of these. I'd try wiping the cache

I already tried wiping Cache with no luck. I will try to get a screen recording of the glitches

I'm not seeing any of these bugs either. I am however getting terrible battery life compared to 5.0. The top battery drainers listed are google play services and android os.

A cache wipe definitely solved my google services issue... That and deleting Fit

Good to know! I'll give both of those a shot

I m not experiencing any of these bugs . the battery life is same as in 5.0 but the phone feels as snappy as it was on kitkat

Battery life in 5.1 slightly better than 5.0

Yes, I have UI glitches in some apps, most affected - Camera.

First glitch on 5.1 ...When I opened maps yesterday..

The exact same thing happened to me (only on Maps, didn't notice it on other apps) when I uninstalled the latest version of Play Services and installed the factory version, but when I updated Play Services again the problem went away. As for bugs on the 5.1 update, here's what I've seen so far:
1- GPS icon never disappears from status bar. The only way to get it out is selecting "Battery Saving" in the Location settings. If "High accuracy" is selected the icon stays there forever.
2- Some weird bug with trusted places and Android Device manager, it seems they're conflicting somehow. Trusted places only started to work after I disabled Android Device Manager from device administrators and uninstalled the updated version of Play Services (I updated it afterwards and trusted places seems to be working fine now).
3- When I toggle wifi off, it takes much longer for 3G to connect than it did before.
I'm using the 5.1 leak from the brazilian soak for model XT1097.

That's actually exactly what I was expecting. It's a qcom bug in the adreno drivers and will be fixed in the final release (qcom has released newer drivers that fix the problem).

Contacts suddenly disappeared also recent calls and speed dial totally deleted then re synched again

I did a cache wipe and uninstalled fit. still getting crappy battery life. loosing about 10% per hour with medium use. I used to be still at 45% by the end of the day, now i'm hitting that mid afternoon.

I had the Google Map graphic bug after an update from the Play Store. I cleared the data in the Google Maps App and it seemed to fix the issue.
I also had an issue with the Trusted Places as well. I removed the places from my list and re-adding them and it seemed to work. I'm at home now and I don't have to unlock with my pattern and today at work it was working just fine.
I have not experienced any of the other bugs mentioned here, though.

Three weeks with 5.1 despite added nice features which I really like but generally it's totally unstable

I still can't use Moto Voice. All it does is default to Google Search. I say Okay Moto X whats up and it does a search on Google search. It has been like this since the soak test to 5.0 that basically bricked my phone because they couldn't update us.

My device is ALWAYS searching for GPS. Google Services is draining my battery and consuming GPS for more than EIGHT HOURS.
I know you may tell me to disable GPS, or disable location settings, and etc. But I need to keep all these things enabled because they are pretty useful on Foursquare, Maps, finding a taxi, and, mainly, for finding my device if something bad happens!
This never happened to me on Galaxy Note II or any other device. Has anyone ever faced this?!

Yeah, that's a workaround, but Google Now stops working if I disable this. I'm trying to understand what's happening, since this is not normal and everybody needs the location settings enabled to get all features of a lot of apps.
For example, this never happened to me or other devices. Seems like an Android 4.3 and Google Services issue.

Didn't noticed this update, but I also got here, just checked now.

Pure luck: I went to the Play Store online and saw there was an update. On my S4 it was updated automatically...
Was it solved?
Seems the problem came back. Did you solved this by the time it was posted here?

[Q] Name this wakelock

Hi.
I'm getting some weird battery drain on my N4. I'm running a pretty raw collection of incomplete things right now, so I know mmmv, but I'm trying to track down which program or service is throwing this partial wakelock. It comes up as "Google Services" in the battery settings and as "*sync*/com.android.browser/com.google/[gibberish]@gmail.com" in BetterBatteryStats.
See the attached pictures. I'm on a more or less stock early kitkat rom from PA, 0-day GApps, and ART.
I bet this drain will go away when some or all of those are updated, but I'm otherwise very happy with my phone as-is so if I could solve this without reverting to JB or Stock that'd be great. If I can't, I might try Dalvik again and see if it helps.

What ya still doing on the AOSP ROM? Get yourself a factory image and then tweak/flash away! its your 'services'.
If you don't want to change when I didn't as well (also used AOSP 4.4 for a while!) I just backed up everything on PC and factory reset and wiped data. It then resolved my wake lock issues, hopefully it works out!

Go to Settings -> Location, choose Battery Saving or Device only. In addition, do you use Google+? If no, disable or uninstall it. Reboot the phone and monitor battery usage to see if still draining fast. If still, try to clear cache and dalvik cache in recovery.

Sorry for the slight necro.
I am having this wake lock frequently myself, doesn't seem to take a huge hit on the battery but does keep phone from deep sleep.
I looked all over the settings in browser app, couldn't find sync, can anybody assist in location.

I’m not a android technical guy but it looks like a higher background process issue. Disabling unnecessary system apps is a good idea but disabling manufacturer system apps isn’t a good idea. I’ve doubts those appa you’ve disabled listed below. I should never disable these at all.
Google Play services, Google Play Store, Google Services Framework, Samsung Apps, Samsung Apps Widget, Samsung Link.
The system runs in full process when its looking for something and its not getting the right thing which it needs. Getting the phone hot is an indication for that, like its gets hot when playing large games. The cpu is running with full capacity. Also if the mobile data (3G/HSPDA) running constantly that is a plus point for making it hot and draining battery. Using WIFI most of the time consumes way to less battery.
Also check the RAM and CPU usage if possible, I doubt both will be high. And turn those apps on and keep all updated then do a factory reset, better by hard reset (not from setting menu). I hope this issue will be fixed.

Notifications are all delayed. WhatsApp. Line. Gmail.

Moto x pure. Rooted and unlocked
Currently all my notifications don't show up. I need to open the app and then all of them will appear. After I open the app notifications will work like normal for around 10-15 minutes.
Anyone experienced this or have some ideas to troubleshoot?
It almost seems like background data is suddenly restricted. This happens on lte and WiFi.
Thanks
Are you using greenify or something similar?

Anyone else have any other ideas to try? Is there a global setting ive missed?

May sound weird but I have singled this issue out to possibly being the android system webview. After I installed the latest version it started to do funky things with my notifications. I uninstall the latest update and they seem to work now

I had this issue on my Moto G, I put it down to low memory and apps being killed off in the background... Low RAM shouldn't be an issue on the X-Style though!

yeah mark me down here too. for a while everything was just delayed, maybe 5 minutes, maybe 20. that was weird, but ok. then one day i get home to people calling me asking why i haven't responded to their texts (i use GV through hangouts). i missed a day's worth of notifications. since then pretty much nothing syncs unless i go and open the app and let it refresh. i can't live like this. anyone have any luck with anything? happening on both wifi and mobile networks.
yeah hangouts and Gmail are randomly delayed for me. I don't have them greenified either. weird.
happening more often today. I just didn't get any hangouts notifications before. I opened the app then bam, shows messages from like ten min ago.

they suggested to switch SIMs. i did. nothing helped.
fwiw, i tried a push Notification Tester app. when on 4g, it won't get past step 2 here. it just freezes on it and nothing happens. when I'm on wifi, it passes them all instantly.
there's absolutely something wrong with the network but verizon is useless and has no idea wtf is wrong, and nobody else I know has the issues.. and again, I have it between two diff phones.

Google Assistant on S7 verizon?

So as far as I know Google started rolling out the Assistant Update and the S7 was on the list of the first devices to receive the new digital tech, as, well, it's one of the latest and the best phones on the market right now (except for the soom-to-come S8). The annoying is I've updated to Nougat with the official Verizon OTA (which, as y'all already know, was centuries behind AT&T and most major carriers) as well as Google App and the Play Store App, but the Assistant app remains elusive still. Is this the same with all other Verizon S7 phones or am I missing something here?
I'm not on Nougat but in stang5litre's ROM...
Go to system settings/Google, scroll down to search and see if the option ISS there.

From what I gather, it's not Verizon that's too blame. The Google Assistant rollout is up to Google. Some guys have been able to get it and other have not, even on the same builds.
I have an idea that may have triggered it when I finally received it. Install the Play Services Info app by weberdo in the PlayStore. Run that app and choose PlayStore to see if you have the latest Google Play Services installed. If not, update it. After Google Play Services updates, go into the PlayStore settings and tap on the PlayStore version number. It will tell you if the PlayStore needs to be updates. Now that you are on the latest Google Play Services and PlayStore, try enabling Google Assistant. I think updating Google Play Services is what triggered Google Assistant for me.

yeah thanks guys but i've already updated my Playstore services and google app (first using the native app on the phone, and then via external links from apkmirror), cleared cache; my phone language is US by default; but i'm still stuck on that screen search whenever I hold the home button. I read it somewhere that this has something to do with Google only rolling GA out to certain account holder, so no matter what you do, if your google email address is within that waiting list you can't do anything. Any thoughts?

You can add it - however, you need a third-party launcher. I use ActionLauncher on my own SIMless S7 (which is using VZW's N firmware) as TouchWiz Home doesn't support it. (In my case, ActionLauncher replaced TouchWiz Home as my default launcher on both my S7 and GNex - and once I get my tablet back in battery, it will replace Arrow Launcher on my tablet as well - simply because I can now standardize across all my hardware - Assistant and all.)
