[Q] What rom to use for verizon s5 but using on tmobile network? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just brought a S5 Verizon off craiglist and in need of some help. Stepping back in to the samsung modding is a bit overwhelming now. Seem like a lot has changed.
The guy who sold it me the phone said he had a cricket store flashed the rom so he can use it on metroPCS. I use T-Mobile so i put in the sim and everything seem to work. I had to manually program the APN for 4g data.
I want to update the phone to lollipop rom so i found a site (http://www.galaxys5update.com/galaxy-s5-stock-firmware/) with all the stock rom. Upon looking up the current build number of the rom on the phone it is KTU84P.G900VVRU1ANK2. Comparing the G900VVRU1ANK2 with the stock firmware site above, the current rom on the phone is Verizon. So the rom is Verizon but still work with Tmobile sim/network? This is kind of confusing.
So to update to lollipop, do i download the lollipop version of Verizon or TMobile? I havent been in the samsung scene since the Vibrant so hopefully you guy can clarify how to update the phone. Thanks.
Here are the information about the current rom (stock i think):
Phone name: samsung-sm-G900
Model number: SM-G900V
Android 4.4.4
Baseband: G900VVRU1ANK2
Build number: KTU84P.G900VVRU1ANK2
Hardware version: G900V.05

Gee - I would like an answer to this too.

You must download the firmware for Verizon.

So only Verizon roms still for s5? No custom carrier roms or universal type roms are available to change carrier?

If the phone is unlocked you can use it with a SIM card of another carrier, but you can't install a ROM of another carrier.

[Q] Can I flash Tmo Stock Image on AT&T Model?

Just ordered my wife a G2, it is unlocked however it is the AT&T variant and we are on Tmo. I have read that someone took a Tmo rom and made it possible to flash this to the AT&T model along with the KK baseband so that we can use Tmos wifi calling. However I would like to know if I can simply just flash a Tmo stock image and flash the KK baseband if this will work or am I looking into this all wrong?
This is where I read about the Tmo on AT&T rom:
http://phoneprouser.com/lg-g2-rom-that-supports-wifi-calling-on-att/1007/
Can anyone tell me if the ROM mentioned in the link above is this the latest ROM for the G2? Thank you in advance.
Side Question, if I want to flash Cyanogenmod and still want to retain the wifi calling can I flash the Tmo rom along with the aforementioned KK baseband?

THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE AND COMPLETE NO GO, FLASHING A FACTORY IMAGE FOR A DIFFERENT MODEL CAN HARD BRICK YOUR DEVICE, IN FACT I'D PRETTY MUCH GUARANTEE IT!!! GO INTO THE ATT DEVELOPMENT THREAD AND FIND SAID T MOBILE ROM FOR YOUR DEVICE, FLASH THAT IF YOU WANT TO. As an answer to the side question there is no way to retain wifi calling on cyanogenmod, especially on a non tmo device. Finally as for the baseband find out what baseband the respective ROMs need (the tmobile one for ATT G2s or the CM build you choose to use).

Flashing Non Verizon Roms (i.e., from unified development roms), possible?

Hi Guys:
I don't want any Verizon related software on my phone, since I am using a different SIM. Am I restricted to flashing only the roms located in this forum for my S5? Or can I flash any of the Cyanogen or unified roms to my phone?
Anyone?
Is your phone unlocked? Or do you have the retail version? I'm just going to make the safe assumption that you bought the retail variant, therefore your answer is NO.
If you have the Dev version then have at it...
No one with a dev phone would need to ask. So no
Great thanks guys. Yeah it is a retail version not dev version. Damn that sucks.. whenever I dial *611 it still goes to the Verizon customer service line. I can't seem to change that even after uninstalling and freezing as much of the Verizon stuff on the phone. Any ideas
Buy a nexus!

Question about a new Galaxy S5 I received

Hello,
I recently had to trade in my old Galaxy S5 (Verizon) which was damaged beyond repair and received a newer upgraded model. I tried rooting it but was unable to get it to boot so I had to put it back on 5.0. After reading through some content I've learned that my phone may not be rootable, I'm hoping I'm wrong and there is a way to do it and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Model: SM-G900V
Android Version: 5.0
Baseband: G900VVRU2BOG5
Build: LRX21T.G900VVRU2BOG5
I've read that BOG5 cant be rooted, but stumbled across this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/development/vzwstock-based-tw-rom-t3178953
Can anyone tell me what that is and if I can install it on my phone to allow root?
Thanks
BOG5 cannot be rooted. In order to flash that ROM you linked, you have to be rooted first. So you are stuck.

Verizon and I believe AT&T has locked bootloaders, which prevents their smartphones from gaining root.
It's really a shame.
You're only solution is to try trading it online for another Galaxy S5.
For example, I have a Canadian Galaxy S5 Model: SM-G900W8, which doesn't have a locked bootloader, easy to unlock, so I can now use any (GSM) SIM card.
Check which US mobile carriers would would on an unlocked S5, then root away.
I know (an unlocked) Canadian S5 works on AT&T & T-Mobile for sure.
Verizon is like Wind Mobile ( using UMTS and HSPA+ 3G mobile networks )
Good luck.

Flashing other variants?

Hey guys, I recently broke my s7e and got a check from Samsung to replace it. I'm looking for try cheapest way to do it and saw a deal on slickdeals with a comment that said:
The Sprint galaxy S7 edge can be flashed to be the 935U version, not sure about the non edge version. All S7 and S7e sold in the US have the same hardware though, so the Sprint version does already have the hardware for the 4x4 MIMO, flashing it to the U version if possible should be enough to put it on parity with the T-Mobile version on most things software wise (including Wi-fi calling I believe) and 100% on par hardware wise.
Yes just root, install custom recovery, download a tmobile rom that has built in aroma installer and you then own a unofficial ALL bands and services for tmobile s7
Is this at all true?

Well you could probably ODIN to different firmwares, but we have a locked bootloader and therefor no custom recovery. Could also try different ROMs on the exynos versions of the phone. But since they're different hardware versions I doubt you would get 100% functional software like wifi calling and VoLTE.

I thought that was the case. It was just really cheap and would be a great way to get another one if all I had to do was Odin the tmo firmware.

Yeah that would be a great idea. I know the phones are identical hardware wise. If I were you I'd do some more research to see if you could flash the sprint phone to tmobile through odin. I think it SHOULD work but having never tried I can't confirm.
I just flashed my Verizon 7 edge to the t mobile firmware and was able to use band 12, WiFi Calling and carrier aggregation. Should be the same for sprint.
Only thing I was told in the Verizon thread was that the firmware for t mobile is baseband 3 and the U firmware is baseband 2 so there is no going back until Verizon or U firmware is undated to baseband 3

Someone told me that Verizon was now in v3 with the latest update, is that not actually the case?

I believe you mean the bootloader v2/v3... not baseband. Baseband is referring to modem.

Yes. My fault. Bootloader

Latest firmware/ROM to use for Verizon on Tmobile S7E (root preferred)

I have an old Tmobile S7E on old ass firmware (Android 7.0 BQE1) and it's already rooted. I just went through Tmobiles Device Unlock process and I believe the phone was unlocked successfully. I'm looking to upgrade to the latest firmware that still allows rooting. I've looked through the Custom Roms threads and can't tell which one is the latest. I am also wondering if I need to use Verizon firmware or stay on Tmobile firmware.
For instance, this thread here: by jrkruse, he mentions to another user in the comments "This one or verizon one? This one just has the Tmobile csc stuff added and a build.prop for gsm carriers thats it" so it made me wonder if I'm using Verizon service but it's a Tmobile phone if this would work. I know Verizon is CDMA so him saying gsm carriers made me think it may not work.
I know this device is old and this thread doesn't get browsed as much anymore so hopefully I can get some answers. If I can't get this working I guess I'll just be getting a new 2020 model phone :highfive:
Thanks guys!
