[Q] Confused about my specific device - Galaxy S3 Neo Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Heya guys,
I've read through so many websites and forum posts but always when I think I have found the right thing for me, the model number, baseband version and/or build number varies...
All I want to do is root my phone. If there's a safe way to do this without tripping that KNOX whatever, that would be great but not even the most important to me.
And if it is possible I would also like to get Android 4.4.4 installed. Strangely, my phone says it is up to date (4.4.2) but I'm seeing people having 4.4.4 on theirs...
If there's something like a pack to get both, the update and the root, that would be mint!
Either way, I would be very thankful if someone could point me to a place where my exact device could get its appropriate files.
Model number: GT-I9301I
Baseband version: I9301IXXUANF2
Build number: KOT49H.I9301IXCUANJ4

you have the gt-i9301i so latest version for your device is 4.4.2 , but 4.4.4 is available for dual sim variant gt-i9300i you can root it i'll post the link below and navigate through the android devloppement section and find a rom that suits you then install it
link for root : http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...overy-t-r-p-samsung-galaxy-s3-neo-gt-t2906840

Heya, thanks for the answer!
Ah, so there's also a dual sim variant. Mean that only they get the 4.4.4 update
So, on that link you gave me... do I need that stuff in the first post or is it enough for me to load and process the stuff in the second post (under 2nd Method I guess?)?

you choose which method you want to use then you're good to go

Yeah, but lets say I choose that "2nd Method ( Odin method )" - do I ALSO need that stuff from the first post (TWRP) or is that not needed then?

no just from 2nd post (odin mode)

Wuaaah, when I go into download mode, it says "Product Name: GT-i9300i"
Now which one is right? O_O
Also, are you sure the second post stuff is all I need? It looks like all I'm getting there is a new recovery, it doesn't say anything about root...?

So I do need the two zips from the first post, you didn't say that before
I'm still confused, though, about the download mode telling me my device is a GT-i9300i. Is that just a bug or something?

Alright, thanks! I'll try this then... I hope there won't be any brickage O_O

Yay, everything worked as it should.
Since I applied the KNOX removal, is it also necessary to use TriangleAway?

No . I personally rooted my device with cf auto root. After I launched the SuperSU it removed KNOX

Hm, I think you misunderstood my question. KNOX seems to be removed already.
But there's still that other thing with the yellow triangle (years ago, one needed 'Triangle Away' to remove it), right? Or has Samsung given up on that when they introduced KNOX?

[Q] Complete reset for warranty

Hello.
My sensor for S View cover is broken (just like many others), which means S View screen is on all the time which renders the phone completely useless (it's impossible to leave this screen).
For a while, I've used CyanogenMod to get around it, as it doesn't have this S View "feature". Now I want to send my phone to repair so the S View sensor can be fixed. I believe I have flashed a stock firmware and rom, and I have also rooted it, and I need help with the next steps:
I need to reset my binary counter.
I need to reset my "CURRENT BINARY: Custom"
I need to reset my "CURRENT STATUS: Custom"
My problem is that I can't use triangle away, because it's an app that I need to install and use on the phone. I am completely unable to use the screen (lets imagine the screen is dead). So is it possible to do this via odin?
I captured a quick video, to show the current status of the phone (and it has been like this on any rom that is based on stock rom - even GPE).

I forgot to mention my phone is rooted currently. But the problem is that I cannot use the OS because of the S View thingy. So unless S View is disabled in the rom you linked, I think I will have the same problem. I'll give it a try, though.

Im sure there is still warranty for that phone because your still on old bootloader and it doesnt say any Knox void warranty when you boot into download mode., but im guessing once they fix your phone they might update your phone to the newest stock firmware with the newest bootloader on it. Thanks, I have bought the G870F today. I'm able to root after changing the kernel to G870A_NE4.
Where did you found the kernel ANJ4 for the G870F ?
For the moment I flash the G870A_NG3 after the root.
I'd like to have a link to the kernel, too.
Like the Active, but having Screen-on with home-button as well as no access to my ext_sdcard is a no-go
got some:

can i flash the img directly without .tar.md5 wrap?

2. Download and install Towelroot-v3.apk(this version does not require internet access).
3. Place your phone into "Download Mode" (press and hold the Home, Volume Down, and Power keys until the phone powers on and displays warning screen, then press Volume Up key).
4. Flash the G870A_NE4_Stock_Kernel using Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).

I uploaded the kernel on my post. Do you have the same version (3.4.0-2982071 : Oct 13) or a newer one ?
Have the same. Seems to be the first Firmware for Europe at all.
Can u rename your upload so ppl can See that this is the nj4 kernel? Otherwise 'kernel' can be misunderstood.
Edit: found the solution for the home key now by using the xposed framework. Have no link Here, but u can find it in the forum Here. Just remap the home button for 'screen off' to 'nothing'.

Where r u from? could help you in native german
Its really easy. Just check in device information wich Firmware you got.
If it ends on nj4, download the nj4 kernel submitted earlier, if ng3, download the ng3 kernel like mentioned in the original thread.
Additional, download the ne4 kernel.
Now flash ne4 in the AP section of Odin (See original thread)
Then Boot device, Use towelroot to root it
Go to download mode again and flash your stock kernel (nj4 or ng3)
Sorry for mentioning (original thread, but im in mobile and cant Copy all sources in this posting)
Hope it helps. Its a doing of 10-15 minutes... Dont be afraid

I dont know Evers Version of Odin, but in 3.09 its the AP section in the right handed side. Second line. Check the original manual which is linker in the first post. There are Screenshots. or just get Version 3.09
In 3.07 its the PDA section. I think thats what you got.
But seriously: i used 3.09 - and oft course there should be no difference - but you are Vetter With this Version from my point of view as i know these are no problems with it.
Please give feedback on how it went...
yes i have the 3.07, and yes i'm going to dowload the 3.09
So just a last time to be sure (sorry :s)
I download the "SM-G870F-NJ4-kernel.zip" attached above and odin 3.09
I start my phone in download mode and i connect it to my computer
in AP section i put the file "boot.tar.md5" and i check only "auto reboot" and "reset time"
and i flash it, that all ?
sorry for asking again but better is to ask before than to ask after ^^

No, thats wrong.
The nj4 kernel download is just for the 'aftermath'.
You have to root your phone first.
To do so you have to download & flash the ne4 kernel first, cause its the only one towelroot recognizes.
After you flashed the NE4 kernel, you Boot to Android and use the Program towelroot (can be found in playstore).
Use it, press 'let it rain' inside the program and reboot again.
NOW its time to 'repair' the kernel by flashing the nj4 kernel the same way as you flashed ng3 in the beginning.
Finish.
3 easy steps:
Download & flash ne4
Install & use towelroot
Download & flash nj4.
Done
Oh thank you, i know i'm despairing, i'm waiting just the time that NG3 download, i flash the all and i feedback
If it's works, you're a god to me !
---------- Post added at 06:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:24 PM ----------
i've flashed the NG3 kernel, but towelroot said that my phone is'nt supported ...
i've tried to reflash and then same thing "This phone isn't currently supported"
My mistake, you need the ne4 kernel, not ng3.

For MM, you have to use a different method called systemless root. I did it a while ago and there is a written out tutorial over on the "sprint gs5 android 6.0" thread in this forum. Just use the search tool there and search "systemless root."
Decisions, decisions - - use this to 'upgrade stock' from my rooted stock deox and have phone totally reset ...or wait for deox stock MM PCA and see if it will take without reset ...
hmmm
Was all hot to upgrade the 2 yo phone , but nothing compelling..nothing faster with qi charging, radio, ir blaster , sd-card slot, water proof , and definetley nothing with removable battery. S7 is the closest and it is locked down ..so sad.

Has anyone tried flashing this using flashfire, injecting root, and flashing the stock partitions via Odin with success? Wile my phone is beyond the warranty period, I have not tripped knox yet and would like to keep it that way if possible. I was able to have completely stock rooted OK4 with this method.
Just to be clear -- will applying this tar via Odin do the full update of MM bootloader, kernel, modem (if applicable), etc etc?

Yup! So you will be able to flash custom roms like @malbert16442 s7 port without any issues (well when he releases V3 as he a group of people beta testing it right now and according to @philiptibbs who is among them V3 works fully with sprint. And on 2.5 everything works but sending sms (recieving sms and sending/recieving mms work fine though, not sure why thats the case.)

Was rooted now I'm on stock

Recently had my s7 edge rooted with the guide that says root and knox still good.
Just used the part of the guide where it says unroot I'm back on stock firmware but now I can't take an Ota it fails and I can't use samsung pay. I was wondering if I did something wrong or there is a step in missed and need to do ?
Thanks in advance for any and all help.
You have to Odin a stock firmware.
That's what I did
What does Settings - About phone - Status - "Phone status" say? It should say "Official".
Also booting to Download Mode (phone off, hold Power/Vol Down/Home at same time, then press Vol Up when prompted) to confirm that "System Status" should read "Samsung Official" or "Official".
You can also install this app, KNOX Status Samsung, and it'll tell you your Knox Status.
If Knox is not valid, you will not be able to use Samsung Pay, and once Knox is tripped, there is no undoing that.
Only reason I can't be on root either is because even with all the power saving functions I've had enabled through root, it didn't have as good battery saving as stock unrooted.
But yeah, try to make sure you didn't do something to trip KNOX.
Yeah that's the odd thing I downloaded the knox checker and it says the warranty is valid

Does your baseband version match your build number? You only need to look at the last 3 digits. If they don't match then you flashed the wrong update file onto your phone.

Here you go this might work I found this on the regular s7 forum........
For those of you who want to go back to stock and are having trouble with any updates i have found a fix.
(only do this if u want to go 100% back to stock and want to update to current software and future updated software. If u want to stay on PG2 software and never update, then ignore this post)
In the instructions on how to flash back to stock, the OP only included 3 files u had to flash using Odin (AP, CP and CSC). follow those steps up to the point where everything is flashed back to stock and your phone has rebooted to home screen. After that, power off your phone and restart to download screen (hold home, power button and volume down at same time)
once u are booted to the download mode screen, open odin and select BL and find the BL file that came with your stock folder. Once its loaded, hit start and let Odin flash it. Your phone will reboot and you will be able to update your phone to any new software released.
I had a problem trying to update to PG1 after reflashing to stock. My update would crash at 32%. This will fix that issue.

That is ok for me you were still a huge help and I really appreciate it.

Trying to flash back to stock.....Model mismatch

I get model mismatch every single time, I have downloaded the right firmware.. Downloaded the one said to do 5 DIFFERENT ONES that are all essentially the same, I rooted succesffully, then tried to flash xposed and failed obv.
.."Stock-S7-EDGE-ATT_G935AATT2APG1.zip"
"AP_G935AUCS2APF2_CL7617530_QB9897831_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5"
Etc. Idk what to do anymore, stuck in download or recovery mode.
"Downloaded the one said to do 5 DIFFERENT ONES that are essentially the same," what does that mean? You downloaded the firmware zip file that had 5 seperate files in it, and they're all essentially the same? See how you quoted one of the files inside? Notice how it starts with "AP"? In odin, you click the AP button, then add that file in that AP slot. Then the one that starts with "BL" in the BL slot, and so on and so forth, until you have all 5 files in their respective slots. THEN you start the flashing process. Did you do that? If that didn't work, did you make sure the md5 number listed at the download screen match after you downloaded the zip file? Do you have an md5 checksum program on your computer? You can easily find a free one by doing a quick google search. You could also maybe try downloading and flashing a different/newer stock AT&T firmware.
As for xposed, you first need to download and install this version of the xposed apk from the xposed website: XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk
Then, if/when rooted find and flash this version of xposed framework in flashfire:
xposed-v85.1-sdk23-arm64-custom-build-by-wanam-20160530.zip
If you're not having any luck, and your phone is still stuck in download or recovery mode, you can still power it off for the time being using the following steps:
If it's in recovery mode, you'll have options listed, like "reboot system now," and, "power off device." You can toggle through each choice using the volume up and down buttons, and once you highlight the one you want, hit the power button to select it. You can go to "power off device" in recovery mode and turn your phone off for now if you don't want to have to worry about it. If your phone is in download mode, it'll either be at the warning screen where you can hit volume up to continue, or volume down to cancel and restart the phone. If it is all the way in download mode, it'll say "downloading... do not turn off target !!" If it is on the warning screen, just continue into into download mode. If it is in download mode already, or you just continued into download mode, and you want to turn the phone off, press and hold volume up, volume down, power, and home button and hold them all down at the same time until the phone shuts off. Immediately after, let go of all the buttons, and then press and hold the volume up, home, and power buttons until the phone comes back on, and in the top left corner, in blue, it'll say "Recovery booting." It is then that you let go of all the buttons. You will enter recovery there and be able to power the device off.
Anyway, I hope you already got it fixed, and if not, I hope this information helped. I'm not trying to be mean, but you really need to search through all of the forums, read everything, read people's comments for information on how to do these sort of things properly, and how to fix the problems. Rooting, installing custom roms and xposed is a little different on newer devices now. Mistakes can be much more costly now than they used to be, so unless you've read thoroughly on such processes, and/or have found a youtube video that helps and you're feeling confident about it, you might want to reconsider attempting to apply these kinds of changes to your phone. If you have any friends that are good at this stuff, maybe that would be another way as well. Anyway, best of luck to you.
Try Odin 3.12.3 or PrinceComsy version It work for me. My case was that I upgrade to the firmware 935u version bootloader v4 and I wanted go back to PH1 that the bootloader is v2. Make sure to do factory reset before do any flash with odin (I don't know if that matter but works for me). Hope this work for you.

What are you flashing FROM? From what you listed in the OP, you are trying to flash to APG1? What the device is on now could be on a newer firmware

If you are trying to flash the stock ROM and you are on different bootloaders you are going to run into issues. I THINK (and could be wrong), you may be on version 4 (based off of the "AP SWREV: B4(2,1,1,1,1) K1 S3") again, I'm not positive on my assumption here, but, if that's the case you need to flash a stock ROM that is on version 4 of the bootloaders, something like G935AUCS4API2 (BL4)

If you go into Recovery Mode, you should be able to see what ROM you are on. From there, I'd do a system wipe like xjimmy suggested, power off, boot to Download mode, and try to flash the ROM that has matching bootloader

So you are on V4 Bootloaders, and API2, which is the current stock release.
I would
Download the stock API2 ROM from HERE and put them all on your desktop
Open Odin
In Recovery mode, wipe the device
Restart the phone in Download Mode then plug the phone into the PC
Put the downloaded files to their slots in Odin, and hit start

THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH...

Yes I'm trying to flash the stock firmware but I flashed the rooted bootloader in Odin I think, lol so that may be why I'm having issues. Cause mine fails every single time for the att version and it's driving me nuts and I can't find any video tutorial on it at all, and smart switch won't work with the att one lol Dicks
