Currently Benzo. Kind wanted more features than stock. However I'm considering switching to either cleanrom or Chroma. Opening apps doesn't feel snappy on benzo.

BenzoROM 5.1 with Vindicator Kernel

Stock 5.1 "E", installed via fastboot on a Motorola Store Nexus 6.
Although I want to root for tethering and some other nice-to-haves, this stock version of 5.1 is running noticeable faster than 5.0.1 and has much of what I already want for this phone.

Temaseks cm12. Smooth and fast. 5.1 is coming soon

I am one of those bizarre creatures that doesn't unlock, root, mod a Nexus. I was the same with The N5. So totally stock and satisfied here. On LMY47I.

All my years of rooting phones, back to the OG evo 4g, (lurked on XDA for 2 years before creating an account) I've always ended up running AOSP or something close. I love pure Android and the Google experience. As it turns out, for me, stock Nexus is perfect for my needs right out of the box. Honestly, I was a complete flashaholic and it's also nice to not spend so much time flashing.

After trying Chroma for a bit, I switched back to stock, there're things provided by Google that I miss in custom roms (Google Now voice control).

Help me decide on a ROM

I'm trying to find a fast stable ROM avoiding nightlies that has good battery. My go to ROM is usually AOKP but on the N7 I like the idea of PIE and Halo. Currently running PA 3.99 and it seem like a very solid ROM and I'm extremely happy with it, but I miss some of the AOKP features like battery bar, transparencies, lockscreen etc.
I'm not really into changing the DPI values, I want AOKP with PIE/Halo. I'm trying to decide between Carbon or PACMAN but they both have nightlies and don't really have stable/RC.
Any recommendations?
3 things...
1) Try not to ask for rom recommendations. It is only a little less better than asking for the "best" rom...and it also makes you seem a bit lazy. This tablet is a beast, and flashes roms in no time. I can flash and test briefly all of the flo roms listed on XDA in 2 days, tops. And usually, when I try new roms, I touch and go.
2) Just because roms have nightlies, it certainly does not mean that they are any less stable. It is nothing more than the devs pushing put their daily progress. In a nutshell, the devs release nightlies based from their most stable build. Tomorrow's nightly might have better RAM usage than today's nightly, and they allow you to flash instead of waiting days/weeks. It is up to the dev team to make that decision. Go ahead and try using any of the two roms for yourself, and you'll see what I mean. If you run into a problem, simply report it. Don't be afraid of bugs.
3) You really should look into learning more about DPIs. Using one general DPI for the entire system might not give you the best resolution for each app. I use Xposed Framework (along with most of the people here), and I change my DPIs on the fly by putting the App Settings into Sidebar (last app on left of screenshot).

The biggest point of this post is to try them both for yourself. Read the OP in the different threads to see if they have any bugs listed. Most don't.

Reluctant to update from 4.3

I’ve been holding off on updating to KK (for a long time ) and after reading some threads I’m not convinced it’s an improvement. Is there any really compelling reason to update to KK? Seems to be quite a few performance complaints. People seem to be having mixed results with Lollipop with many complaining about their KK experience too.
I’m really happy with JB. Battery life and overall system performance is great. Plus I like the blue system icons better than white.
What is your experience with KK and would you recommend updating? Why?
Um don't update to KitKat...update to lollipop. Its much better
Don't. I gave 5.0 a try & it is worst than KitKat. WAAAAYYY worse.
I ended up flashing back to 4.3 JellyBean.

Its better than KitKat was. What really works well is if you flash an f2fs filesystem based ROM. It makes a huge difference and the tablet actually works.
Well I think this debate answers my question. I'll stick with JB until the smoke clears. Thanks to all who responded.
KitKat is OK, but Lollipop is awful...
Don't do it.
KitKat ruined my tilapia. The smell was horrible.
Seriously, though, grab CM 10 if you have the urge to flash something other than stock. KK ruins the battery life of the 7. I tried SlimKat 8. I tried CM 11 nightly as well as a snapshot. I even tried Google's official KK, which was what got me started flashing the thing. They just are horrible on the battery. SlimKat was the best experience besides CM 10. But CM 10 is the best so far IMHO.
Haven't charged my tablet since "downgrading" to stock 4.3 in a week now. Still has plenty of battery left. KK would have eaten through 1/2 the battery in a day. Just some more food for thought if anyone reading this is still thinking they want KK on their 7. Or if they already did the dirty deed and are wondering what they lost.

(Opinion) What's the best Custom ROM for the Redmi Note 2?

There's plenty available and I don't know which one to choose so a statistic pick might be my best option. I'm talking mostly about non-MIUI ROM's cause that's the kind of ROM I want, close to stock Android.

If you want close to AOSP, try AOSP from vova.vafin... The best AOSP for Reno2
In my opinion, they're all pretty much the same as far as battery usage is concerned (which I believe is the main concern, regarding this device).
Some have a better camera, some have more stuff built-in, some are multilanguage and some aren't.
All in all, I like Bule's BlissPop (can't remember where I got it from), but mostly because I just like BlissPOP. Also, if you plan on getting an AOSP only to end up installing xposed, gravitybox, and a whole bunch of addons, might as well get a ROM that already has most of those addons...

Also pitching in for this one. I've tried one of the first AOSP posted here, the sSmooth one, but after a while it just ran crap. Went to global MIUI stable, for some reason the USB wouldn't interface with PC and finally ended up on this rom. Fastest by far. And I infinitely prefer it to MIUI. I've had a couple of soft resets, but nothing major.

Using build April 22. I always prefer original CM than others because it contains no craps no bloatware no Chinese/Russian non-translateable texts.

Getting my 2nd Moto x in a year Recommended ROM with most mods

I'm getting my moto x by mail sat.
Will root right of the bat .
To save time since I last had one what's the latest best Rom in opinion that has most mods incorporated?
And does this device have any camera mods that have been developed since MM

I would run it a week or so before rooting, at least, preferably a few weeks... just to make sure everything is working properly and there are no hardware issues. Once you unlock the warranty is gone...
Best ROM questions are hard to answer and therefore frowned upon here, because there is no "best" one... start with some of the bigger ones and see what you like.
Personally I don't like any Roms for this device, nor do I see the point in using one. Stock rom may be a little out of date security patch wise but it is marshmallow, it's extremely stable, no bloat, what's the purpose of a rom then? I just run stock rooted + battery optimization mods noted in another thread. Plus nougat is coming in the near future supposedly so I'm not bothering with Roms.
Stock rom is definitely the best for stability and that it just "works", however, I don't like using old out of date versions of Android, so having tried all of the Nougat rom releases I could find for this device, my own personal choice at the moment is CM14.1 by Hashbang.
I would personally recommend Pure Nexus. This is only my opinion, but I have had the best, speediest, and most customizable experience with it. I use it as my daily driver. Just don't download the 1023 build. Like mentioned above, there is no "best" rom, but PureNexus fits my needs the best.
I will have to disagree with most people.. there is a Best rom. The problem is finding what the Best rom is for you, as each person has their own needs and requirements from a rom. Stock is a great, if you want a little customization I would say try the last release of CM13 dated Nov 21st, it has been rock solid and offers some extras Stock can not. Now after that the field is wide open. I still recommend staying away from and Nougat based roms as they are still working out many kinks. I find almost ever customer rom has it flaws and issues, it just depends if you can live with those flaws. Just remember, a you begin Crack Flashing, to have fun with it.

Fully agree with this. After looking around this place and trying out a couple ROMs I just nandroided back to stock rooted and just used xposed for everything else I needed. There's just not a real active environment on this phone compared to other devices. But that's not really a bad thing because like you and others have said, this device is brilliant just on its own with root and xposed only.

Unlikely that there will be Oreo for N7 since google changed kernel requirments to 4.4 in R2
@tomcis147 for new devices rolling out with Oreo ..
last Android 7.0 ROM i tried was super laggy comparing to pure nexus based on Android 6.0 so I'm not even going to try 8.0
