YMMV - Watch out for the new update - Fire TV General

The new update broke USB functionality on my Fire TV I was using mouse with my FTV past couple months,I was wondering why the USB flash drive was not recognized with the new update.
So I tried the same mouse and it also did not work,my note4 recognized the mouse, flash drives etc.. (with OTG cable) then tested on my hackintosh, laptop and other devices.
I had mouse plugged in at all times while update was being done, hope that helps! gonna have to call amazon for RMA (2nd one, will ask them nicely for non-refurb'd) unit.
Cheers!

Yea I used a hub as well previously and had few things plugged in and they worked fine, after the update USB port does not function at all (never said they don't work with multiple devices)

There is a new option for USB Debugging. Did you accidently enable that? That puts the port in to peripheral mode, and then a mouse wouldn't work in that mode.

I just wrote about this the other day on a thread about someones bluetooth mouse stopping. I actually had a USB mouse stop after an update and I couldn't figure out what was happening, so I downloaded the dongle driver from logitech and there was not one for my dongle, but the good part was that it told me my dongles firmware had been erased. The mouse has never worked again after leaving the dongle attached while updating my Fire TV. I have had other dongles that were fine after updating, but to be on the safe side I try to always disconnect all dongles and USB harware before updating. I think that somehow because I had the dongle in it did something to erase it while being updated. It happened exactly like this, I was using the mouse, said I had an update, I used the mouse til it was finished, it rebooted after it was done, mouse never worked again. Hooked it to my PC it would recognize the dongle just did not know what it was, so I downloaded the dongle driver software and it said my dongle could not reinstall the firmware and then said my firmware had been deleted by another program or device. Advice, check to see if your devices dongle is able to install firmware from the manufacture. Some dongle can install firmware, but some cannot. If it can, you will probably be okay, but if it cannot then its probably useless. Hopefully your dongle is a unifying reciever, cause it may let you install the firmware.

I did only after rbox asked me if I have it ON so I turned it on/off and still nothing.. never had such thing happen with a OTA updatew really strange
I let FTV sit for a day without usage and I have to report mouse works but it still won't pick up any of my flash drives formatted into fat32 at all.
So at least 1 thing works.. anything else you guys can suggest?

When you flashed the rooted new rom, did you wipe the Cache and Davlik cache, too? Go into Clockwork recovery and do that. This is NOT a factory reset. Just wipe cache and wipe Davlik cache is under the advanced mentu option.

[OTG] Logitech Keyboard & Mouse Drivers Missing

Before I start, I don't believe this belongs in the Accessories category because it is a software/development question.
I have a standard OTG cable, bought it for my Evo 3d and it works fine. Plugging it into my new Nexus 10 (Unlocked and rooted of course) I got the pleasant surprise that it provides enough power from the tablet alone to power most USB devices (even my 2.5" hard drive!). Now, when I used the OTG cable on my Evo 3d, I was able to plug in my Logitech unifying receiver and connect my mouse and keyboard with no setup required (keyboard just works, mouse shows a cursor). With the Nexus 10, no such luck.
I was able to download the USB Host Diagnostics app from the Play Store, and I can see that it is recognizing the adapter no problem, but it is not loading input drivers or setting them to be input devices.
Dmesg from Evo 3d when plugging in OTG + Logitech receiver with mouse and keyboard: http://pastebin.com/kBbZEwXD
Dmesg from Nexus 10: http://pastebin.com/0yyFZK7u
Now, I know my cable works fine with the Nexus 10 because I can mount mass storage no problem.
I would love for someone with some more knowledge of USB host mode to maybe provide some feedback or support.
I'm more than happy to provide any more information needed.
Thank you ahead of time.
EDIT: Solution

I hope it ends up being something small and flash-able as a fix, instead of having to flash a completely new ROM. Either way thanks!
OK, I've got the Logitech Unifying support working... tested it with my keyboard and mouse... all good... it's a new kernel... I will upload it soon...

Logitech Unifying Adapter & Sony Xperia S
Hey guys,
I know I'm in the wrong section but I don't know if I ever can solve this problem:
I have a Sony Xperia S with the newest Jelly Bean .211 and this FW cannot identify my Logitech keyboard with a unifying 2.4GHz adapter. All keyboards and mouses with this adapter don't work. I see with USB Host Controller APP that the adapter is recognized with the right vendor and device id but the Xperia S does nothing. With ICS and GB we hadn't this problem. I think only the drivers are missing. I called the Sony support and they told me to do the same studip thing: factory reset, reflash the FW bla bla... :silly: But it's a FW related problem and so on I'm googling this since 2 months and i cannot find anything to solve this. And today I saw this thread. I hope anyone can tell me which files are needed to recognize my Logitech keyboard on USB OTG as a keyboard and to use it. I saw that this problem was solved for the Nexus 10 but only as a kernel and I need only the files or drivers.
Please help
Regards
Just curious , would this kernel help to make a Logitech steering wheel usable as well ?

[Q] Nexus 7 wont connect to usb, charge when on, but usb-otg works

Im aware that one or two other threads have been created with this same general question but one thing they didnt ask is what to do if you cant fix it?
As the thread topic states my Nexus 7 will not connect to my PC via USB (It is not seen at all, its not a driver issue I've tried). It will not charge when turned on but it was charging when turned off last night. When I checked this morning it said I had a full battery but after turning the tablet on it said I only had 60% battery. All the started happening after I charged it with a battery pack at work the other day because I forgot my charger at home (some people have had similar problems after using car chargers). It will let me connect a flash drive to it via USB-OTG. I have tried 3 different cables on 2 different PCs (One running Windows 7 and the other running Windows 8). I really dont know where to go for help anymore as Ive spent the past 2-3 days googling like a mad man trying to find an answer and noone seems to have one.
I would love for someone to really help me out and get some steps that could fix this, however, if its not fixable how do I RMA it? I cant lock the bootloader and I cant flash a factory image.
You say it is not a driver issue, but your symptoms indicate it is. I would start over with the removal and re-installation of the proper drivers.

I've uninstalled them. Every time I go to manually install them the guides always say to find where the nexus is and my nexus never shows up. If it was drivers it would still charge when its on. So how can drivers cause the tablet not to charge from the ac adapter?
Try Wugfresh's program. I had issues w/o it.

Thats the toolkit I have installed. Its also the "guide" I am following when it comes to drivers. I tried to see if I could make the nexus connect to the pc while in fastboot and nothing happened then either. Everything he says to do involves the PC actually seeing the nexus :/
Ive changed it from mtp to ptp, toggled debugging, went to different back ups, flashed a new rom, etc etc. I really feel like Ive tried just about everything. Someone mentioned in one thread about some specific code in the nexus being wrong and possibly changing it could fix it but I do not know how I would go about doing that.
I also originally used the Wugfresh toolkit and had problems getting the drivers installed properly on Win7-64. Ultimately, I think I installed pda.net on my computer and on the N7 and was able to connect after that. Haven't had a problem connecting since. Re-read some of the Wugfresh posts about driver problems. You should be able to get it sorted out.

I sent you a PM but I really dont think this is an issue with drivers. I have been able to connect the N7 to my PC perfectly before the other day. Never a problem at all. Now I have uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers as best as I could (currently I have the samsung drivers because they are the only ones that will install without having to verify that the phone is connected via ADB and I had them left over from my Fiance's GNex so they have been here all along when the N7 was actually connecting).
The N7 is not connecting to the PC at all. It does not show up in device manager. You cannot make an ADB connection to it. It has already been rooted and it is running the latest version of Paranoid Android. On top of that the AC adapters will not charge the N7 while it is turned on. Its like the N7 turns away any usb connection other than a USB-OTG cable while it is on.
Also I really do appreciate the help. This has just been really frustrating for me.
Hello,
Since yesterday, I have exactly same issue with my Nexus 7 3g.
Everything is working perfectly but computer doesn't see Nexus at all (nothig works Bootloader, ADB, MTP,PTP).
Charging is fine (looks like), USB HDDs, pendrives are working as before.
Reinstaling drivers, changing to PTP, switchin on/off USB debugging didn't help.
Checked : other Nexus connects to the computer without problems, so its not drivers issue.
I assume it happened after Nexus was connected to my car charger.
Does anybody have solution/fix for that ?
Unfortunately my Nexus comes from USA, can I RMA it in Europe ?
I feel badly for everyone having these issues. I feel very lucky I'm not having them. It sounds as if the microusb port may have been altered/damaged by certain kinds of connections, like the battery pack or car charger. I don't know why this would happen and my own car charger (Moto oem for my Bionic) has worked fine on the N7. I did pick up the usb cable attached to my pc one day and created a static shock to the connector. Since then, that bank of 4 usb ports will not show either my N7 or bionic, but my usb mouse, keyboard, and printer work with them. The other bank still works, as does the pci port expansion card and my front ports. If I do have a glitch with the pc connection, I restart both the computer and the N7 and then it works. Sorry I don't have a solution.
I also assumed a damaged/fried USB post on the Nexus 7. There are 2 data lines and 2 power lines in the charging socket I think. If the power lines are damaged, usb otg may still be working. Its also tying in with the use of a power pack.

Have you tried switching between MTP and PTP and seeing if that works? If I used the PTP setting for the USB it shows up, I can then move files onto the PICTURE folder and once there move to another folder while using the Nexus.

Wow or strange should be more of the reply. I have done this before but it never worked. Thanks for the help. For anyone else needing help here is what I did. First opened the Nexus Tool Kit, then Full Driver Installation Guide, launched USBDeview, then - In particular look for devices with Vendor ID - "18d1" or... "04e8" - Simply right click these devices, and select the option to: - "Uninstall Selected Devices", final step unplugged the device and plugged it back in and it worked. Also MTP enabled USB Debug unchecked. Thanks again...
-AkWingnut
Tried this and haven't had any luck so far. I'm going to try pdanet or samsung drivers again later today and post results.

Bump!
I'm experiencing similar issues with my Nexus 5. This is the only thead I can find that has a similar problem. My Nexus 5 worked on SlimKat, I flashed stock L Preview, now my device won't charge when it is powered into the OS. Bootloader works fine and charges when turned off. I upgraded to 5.0 which came out today (Yay!) and the problem persists.
Have any of you lads or ladies had any updates?

GPD XD OTG Issues

Hello everyone, I hope this is the right section where to post, I have scrolled down the home page until I've found this one. This is an android console based on Rockchip cpu so I guessed I'd give it a try with my problem. If not please forgive my dumbness and move the thread.
I have bought a GPD XD console that works very flawlessly beside one big huge damn problem I am not able to resolve.
One day I tried to hook it to my TV and looks great. Then I wanted to connect my 360 wired controller via USB otg. No luck. Then I tried ps3. Same. Ps4 controller? Again nothing appears on screen. Mouse, keyboards, flash drives, just nothing. Also updated it to last firmware. Tried 3 usb otg cables, 2 cheap one and one with gold plated connectors that costs more (dunno if this changes).
So I tried some of the methods I've found online to test the otg support and actually otg support is ok. What wasn't ok therefore, is that I had to download 3 xml files and putting then into permissions folder and allow them but still nothing happens. Downloaded then a vold file to put it into etc folder and again nothing works. The apps i've tried all tells me the otg support is ok but find me no otg signal
Actually usb port works for charging the device or make it visible to pc but this damn otg won't work.
I tried almost anything, . I am kinda noob at this but if usb works for charging and pc I can assume is a software issue and not an hardware one, or is it possibile the otg function depends on usb port "broken" even if usb port works for other operations?
Please I would be very glad if you could help me. Since it's passed too much time for a refund and send it back in China for a replacement will costs me a lot and takes like months if not one year as I've read around.
I guess I choose the wrong section

New To Shield - can't get an external Keyboard to work (dongle type)

Been setting up my ShieldTV (2017) - and sideloaded YouTubeTV App and Chrome. Need an external keyboard for them to work and tried the Logitech K400+.
I've added the USB Dongle, and had the keyboard inches away - nothing. Powered off, rebooted, nothing.
Checked all the settings - don't see anything related to external keyboard. All I was able to do was select the AOSP keyboard.
Is it the keyboard or is there just something basic I'm missing?
i have and use the k400 model and it works out of the box even on latest stock 5.1.
No need to setup anything.
Check your batteries and make sure you turn it on (the switch is on top right of the kb). Last but not least check the usb receiver is the correct (also in case of various devices of same brand) and says Logitech.
If no go then it could be defective. Try it in a PC or laptop. Btw for better performance i use a single usb 2.0 port extender but works fine in a 4 port usb 3.0 i have, however mileage may vary as in many cases usb 3.0 ports can cause issues, in this case interference.

usually in the latter you gotta do a trick to enable second usb port host mode as by default work for ADB/Debug only
If you have USB debugging on try turning off.

no, both work but one works for debugging too as Nvidia removed the mini usb otg port.
As i said if you have developers mode enabled and usb debugging try disabling it and reboot.

Well - this is just silly - I don't know how to update the thread title... and to change it to be more descriptive.?
Hey, regarding this issue. USB debugging probably wasn't the cause.
But by enabling and disabling you did fix the cause, because there are two instances that need the second USB port. One is for debugging and the second is for the device to be seen as an external device when you use that USB port to connect it to the computer (in short, MTP protocol for filesharing).
Probably in the Storage settings you turned on the USB toggle for file access. By enabling developer mode and enabling USB debugging, the toggle was automatically turned off once you disabled that.
Or maybe the setting was toggled when you tried to setup the plex server. Not sure what actions trigger that, but now you know the real cause.
If you haven't enabled developer settings, USB debugging won't be turned on by itself. Especially not when the device is practically new and you haven't done anything to it.
So keep this in mind, either using debugging or making your internal storage available over USB will disable that USB port for other devices.

Thanks for providing this insight. Makes total sense as i couldn't understand how that port became unusable for the wireless dongle
My (proprietary radio) USB wireless keyboard stopped typing, though it indicated it was paired to its USB dongle. I tried to pair a Bluetooth keyboard to the Shield TV too, and while it would pair (and accept the passcode typed on the keyboard), it would fail at "connecting" and not work. I tried toggling developer mode, USB debugging, even USB type from Automatic to Compatible and back, no joy.
Then I restarted the Shield TV. It seemed to shut down but didn't start back up - black screen. I power cycled it. When it came back up I was able to pair the Bluetooth keyboard, connect and type, and pair the (proprietary radio) USB wireless keyboard.

Might be a weird question but: how do I tell which Shield TV I have?

So, I bought a used-but-like-new Shield TV. I want to root it. I posted a while back asking about wired mouses, but when I finally got around to trying to do the OEM unlock stage, I found that the mouse wasn't working in fastboot mode to allow me to click "continue". So, apparently I need a keyboard too? Or am I just following the wrong set of instructions? My Shield TV came with a remote that has no port for charging, because it has normal replaceable batteries. Do I need a usb keyboard? Was I incorrectly following the 2017 root instruction when I should have been following the 2015 version? I am so thoroughly confused and frustrated, man. I honestly just wish I'd bought a crappy Mi Box at this point.
Which instructions did you follow and sounds like you have the 2017 16gb

I was going by this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqJCjN9twrU&
But, like I said, when I tried to do "oem unlock" through ADB, I couldn't click continue, even though I had a usb mouse connected to the Shield. So, do I need a keyboard instead??

I believe you have to be in the usb closest to the ethernet port and if that mouse is not working try a different one. The shield can be finicky all usb cords do not work with it

So, thanks for your repeated help, I actually just tried the mouse without starting the root process, and on the home screen I can use it just fine, opening apps and whatnot. So, apparently there's an issue in fastboot mode? Any idea what the issue is? I don't want to spend the money on another mouse if the issue is just that NO mouse will work except on the home screen.
