[Q] Phone Battery Drain from Bluetooth - Wear OS Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got my moto360 about a week-and-a-half ago, but have noticed that the battery on my Note 3 is draining more quickly than before. When I check my battery stats, 35-40% of the usage is Bluetooth. This was never the case before I got an Android Wear device.
Anyone else experience issues like this and know what it might be? I have installed a bunch of watch faces (though I'm using one of the most basic ones right now). I also have Weather Timeline (set to update hourly) and LightFlow installed and sending vibrations to the watch when I get Hangouts/SMS messages.

This question was never asked.
Bluetooth does not register as a power drain on my Nexus 6.
I have no idea what lightflow is, I get messaging notifications without it.

[Q] Battery drain from Android OS, suspend, and event/0

I know this issue has been posted in forums for other devices, but I haven't seen anything about it for NC. I did try to search the NC forums but couldn't find anything that seemed to address this problem.
I am using MIUI 1.7.22. I have noticed significant battery drain due to Android OS (in battery stats), suspend (in the systempanel app), and event/o (also in systempanel). I have disabled auto-sync and any apps that appear to be likely culprits (those that might attempt to download data). This problem seems to appear with wifi on or off, and when on, I have tried both setting it to never turn off and to turn off when the screen is off. Initially I was experiencing battery drain due to cell standby, which I took care of by disabling the telephony provider, phone, and mms apks. I know many don't believe this has an effect, but I did it anyway. The cell standby drain is gone, but now I'm fighting the drain due to these other factors. Has anyone found a fix for this?
After scouting around for info, I have tried some suggestions seen elsewhere: rebooting and wiping dalvik cache. So far today I haven't had any Android OS, etc. issues. Standby life with screen off is as it should be (for now and hopefully forever)--very slow battery drain.
This is with wifi set to never shut off, which I prefer.
Suspend etc. came back last night although not as extreme as before. Hopefully some other folks will have things to add to this thread. I will continue posting progress info as I learn more about this.
From the code.google.com forums:
Confirm heavy battery drain with enabled Location & Security -> Use wireless networks / Use GPS satellites. I've disable both options and now my battery life is normal.
With enabled "Location & Security" options battery eaten by "Android OS" process (about 40-55%).
I will try this and report back.
Disabling WIFI and GPS in location/security had no effect. There appears to be a google process that prevents the system from sleeping.
I was still experiencing random battery drain due to Android OS, suspend, event/0 after switching to cm7. One suggestion I read was to disable calendar sync, as this appears to be a runaway process that attempts to connect to the server constantly without allowing the device to sleep. Doing this allowed me to get through the night with very little drain and the Android OS, etc. processes were finally behaving (within normal limits).
I'm not sure if anyone is reading this thread but I will continue to update until I figure out the solution, as I imagine this problem will become more noticeable to others who are equally frustrated with this issue.
Having same problems on my galaxy s2. Lots of people have this problem and think it's a problem with the os. What os version are you using?

Right now I'm using cm7 (2.3.5) but I was using MIUI before. Turning off calendar sync has worked well so far.
I had bad battery drain in the past and no deep sleep. but what worked for me was not to use any live wall paper. this fixed my deep sleep issues. for the battery drain, re-set your battery stats and re boot a couple of times for the stats to settle down. also check google map and latitude. in latitude just log out. un-checking sync in my yahoo email app also helped with my battery drain. my wifi is set at, off with screen. I went from 20 -30% drain in 7hrs to now 1-3% in 7hrs
I hope any of this info can help

Thank you, boxcar. I had tried all of those things (froze live wallpaper, reset battery stats, reboot, froze maps and latitude) but the only thing that worked for me was unchecking the box for calendar sync. Email sync and wifi appear to be non-issues--no difference between off or on. Evidently this google calendar sync bug is a known issue (that very few people seem to know about!). I hope google will fix this soon.
I also have same problem on my Galaxy S2. These two(events/0, suspend) drain many battery, 14% one night, without WIFI, GPS, Bluetooth.
I'll keep on tracing this issue, and share the result in this thread.

Turning off autosync seems to help the most (although setting WIFI to turn off when the screen turns off appears to help, as well). I tried using an autosync toggle but just turning it on at all seemed to result in a gradual creeping up of the Android OS, etc. problems. Manual sync of calendar and perhaps gmail and contacts seems to be the way to go. For some reason, exchange mail set to push results in no problems. The other trick I've found is to go to applications, then calendar and calendar storage, and force stop, delete cache, and THEN manual sync of calendar (reboot, recovery, wipe dalvik, fix permissions are good ideas, too). When I flash nightlies, I go through this process and the offending processes work as they should. If I don't, problems appear sooner or later.
I've had my nook on for 9 hours now, WIFI on (off with screen off) and 30 minutes of display on time. I've lost 9%, so I think I'm on the right track. This is how it should work, I.think. Of course, the results SHOULD be the same with autosync on, but manual sync for good battery life is an acceptable small tradeoff in my opinion.

For the noobs in the audience, how exactly does one turn off autosync? Where is it located?
Thanks in advance.

Menu, settings, accounts and sync (I leave background data checked).
I found part of the root cause, maybe some old application - can work on new version, but drain many battery. Today I uninstalled the 'Android photo widget', then only 1% battery has been drained within 2 hours when standby. Not totally solved the issue, but seems OK.
I guess you can also try this, find another 'bad' application which drains your battery.
Well guys, I'm not sure if I'm the last Nook Color user to continue fighting with this super annoying headache (I know SGS2 users are, too), but I think I'm on to something. I thought calendar sync was the culprit (and perhaps it was), but the Android OS drain (featuring nemeses suspend and event/0) would not go away and the arrival of this problem continued to be (apparently) random. I had an idea that, if the calendar sync kept alternating between suspend and event/0, perhaps this was due to old events that caused the sync process to continue longer than it would normally. So, based on this idea and logic, I changed my exchange e-mail account settings to sync email from the last month rather than to sync all mail. Looking at my work e-mail history, I realized I had e-mails in various folders and sent mail from as far back as 2001! Although it's nice to be able to access all e-mail history, perhaps the polling services were constantly monitoring the activity of super old emails and folders, which caused the suspend and event/0 processes to flip out. I don't know if this is the way Android actually works but it seemed logical to me. Well, for the last 24 hours, I have intermittently checked my cpu activity through systempanel, and what do you know, when the device is not being used, suspend and event/0 work as they are supposed to and Android OS stays low in the battery % list. PLEASE let this be the fix! I know there are other factors that contribute to the acting out of these processes, but on a stripped down device with no autosync or widgets and no out of control services identified in systempanel or watchdog, there can't be many other explanations. I'm curious if others with this problem have similar settings on their email accounts. In all the forums on different sites (and I've read a ton of them), I've never seen anything like this mentioned.

Please vote there, and, may be, Google will fix it.
For those still following this thread, here's a tip. Use Gemini app manager (in the market). This has been one of the best tools I've found for managing wakelock issues and battery drain during standby. It allows you to identify apps that start up on their own (more than you think) and prevent them from starting randomly. In my experience this has been a huge cause of the standby drain problem showing up as Android OS, suspend, and event/0 in battery monitors. I'm currently sitting on 81% battery remaining with over 1 hour of screen time after 21 hours since my last charge. I know it's not a lot of usage but it's the standby time that's fantastic.

I've a Galaxy S2. Tried everything, except disable autosync. Was losing 30-40% battery at night. So far since turning off google sync I'm getting about <1% battery use an hour. Will see if it continues. Thanks.

Running Sync Loop

First day with the G watch and I'm getting pretty awful battery life - I charged it this morning, 4 hours later its already at 74% and I haven't really been using it. I noticed in the persistent notification on my phone that it says "Connected, running sync loop". I pair my watch with a Nexus 5. My friend who also has the G Watch but paired with a Note 3 says his just says "Connected". He didn't even charge his last night and his is at 85%.
I tried resetting both the watch and re-installing Android Wear software. It still says running sync loop. Anyone else have this issue?
Just got my G Watch, my phone also says "Connected, running sync loop". Whats it mean?
I get the constant running sync loop notification message too. I have a Verizon GS4 running CM 11 nightlies. I am also wondering if this is normal.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I think it's normal, it happens with my Gear Live as well. I assume it's because the service they use for communicating with the device needs to be run as a foreground service, which requires showing a notification.
I dunno if it's normal.
I have a G Watch, mine only ever says "Connected" on the notification. I have never seen anything about this sync loop.
Same issue
Have lg g2 running cm11 nightly, getting same sync loop issue with a g watch. Battery life does not seem bad, end or day around 40%

So your notification doesn't show anything after the comma in this screenshot? That's odd
IDK if the sync loop is effecting the battery or not but I'm really not happy with the battery performance on my watch. Dunno if it's limited to mine but right now I've been off the charger for 6 hours, screen always on, off and brightness at 2. I'm at 63%. I've barely used it too -- maybe two dozen messages came in and a few phone calls.
Meh.

Nope.
My friend using his GS4 running KitKat paired with a G watch only sees "Connected" in his notification. However, he said that it showed "Connected, running sync loop" back when he used the Preview Wear app that connected to the emulator (back when the Wear preview was first released). Interesting behavior, but it doesn't really help us figure out which message is the "normal" one.
I have a Note 3 running CM 11 M8, and mine always says "Connected, running sync loop." I've never seen it say anything else.
I was off charger for roughly 12 hours today, and it dropped all the way down to about 8% battery left. I'll try restarting the watch to see if it does better tomorrow.
I just realized I never posted anything about my battery life: My gear live is usually at ~60% by the end of the day, and I haven't noticed any real impact on the battery of my Nexus 4.
I just noticed that my lg g watch is doing this on my nexus 5. I never saw it on the android l developer preview or stock 4.4.4. The first time I saw it was when I installed cyanogen mod yesterday. I can't say my battery life it horrible but it does seem like it is having trouble syncing apps and controlling music at some points

Because the very first post in this thread mentions the impact on battery life...
I was using Android Wear on my OnePlus One with CM11S (stock). Never saw this message until I wiped the phone and install CM11 Nightlies. Now I see it.
Today's the first day with the "Sync loop" message, but battery drain is negligible. BTW, Android Wear takes quite a bit of battery. The BT connection causes wakelocks, and even if BT 4.0 is low power, there's no way my OnePlus one is getting the ~0.8-0.9% drain per hour it was before.
Its hard to separate the its Android Wear alone or the new OK Google everywhere. Both seem to have a noticeable impact, but I have yet to test them individually to get exact numbers. I can say that the week where I went turning on bluetooth only during hte day and night (leaving my watch as a dumb step counter) resulted in better battery life on my phone. I rarely use my watch as a real notification mirror anyway. I find it far too annoying buzzing every Hangouts message (I know about mute, but if I do so, I can never see my messages then)
I know this is a little old but I just got my gear live a week ago. I don't remember seeing this on the L preview but I've been seeing "running sync loop" since switching back to CM 11 a few days ago. I also think bluetooth is disconnecting randomly, which has also happened in my car from time to time for a while now (while on CM 11).
Yea, put a new ROM on my N5, and no doubt i WIPED everything, and still getting the loop error on my Moto360. I tried TiBU at first, then downloaded the Wear app from the store, just to be safe, and still get the error.
Hi,
I had a short experience with CM11 M12 yesterday on my GS4. At morning , my G watch R was a 60%. At 16h it was only 15% and I needed to put it in flight mode to keep battery. I had the sync loop message
Normally the watch uses about 40% of battery per full day (7h30 --> 22h).
Today I use a Google edition on my GS4 (4.4.4), I have no sync message and my Watch is at 83%(16h) it was unplugged at 7h30. It's normal as it was with my previous touchwiz rom (4.4.2)
I think the CM11 has really a problem to communicate with the watch.
Stock rooted GS4, g watch r
I have the same problem. I don't think it's cm.

Massive wake lock and battery drain

Hi guys,
I have been having an issue with my Motorola X Play (UK Single Sim) I have only owned it for a few months from new.... The battery is draining fast and I can see in the battery stats that it's not sleeping, otherwise the battery usage page shows nothing of interest, apart from perhaps Mobile Standby which is quite high, above the screen but the signal bar is all green...
I rooted my phone to better find out what was causing these issues, otherwise stock Marshmallow. Unfortunately Motorola now are not interested as they say my phone is rooted and now has no warranty - useless idiots!
Using GS Sam battery monitor (rooted) I can see that the following is keeping the phone awake, no other app is.
48.3% of battery consumed by Kernel (Android OS)
Keep awake over 2 hours
CPU usage 59m 53s
Number of Wake Locks: 1
Byes sent: 246.21KB
Bytes Received: 5.70MB
App UID: 0
Wakelock Detail:
Google_C2DM 0.0s (1)
I have tried safe mode but it appears to be the same, I have hardly any apps installed apart from Facebook and Facebook messenger and I have even tried it without them...
I have tried turning off/on WiFi / Location / GPS is now disabled. WiFi Scanning is off. Restarts make no difference... I have even done a factory reset about a month ago.
Any ideas, this phone is having the same battery life or less than my Nexus 5 which had a much smaller battery...
Many thanks
here's a way to avoid it http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/google-c2dm-checkin-services-t1321520
i'll update if i find anything else.
don't tell them your device is rooted. if you go to service center just re-lock the bootloader and its back to normal.[it won't get your warranty back but they don't check that much]
can you post a screenshot of gs sam.
1 - Install BetterBatteryStats (BBS) - this will give you detailed information on what is draining your battery. Get it from XDA v2.2.0.0B6 - this gives you the detailed breakdown in the UI that you are after, the google play version doesn't do it in the UI (older version).
Get baseline results (charge it full, don't touch it for 5-6 hours) I like to do this while sleeping.
2 - Install Greenify (you don't need the Xposed module if you don't want to fiddle with that yet, alto I highly recommend it) set the working mode to root. If applications are still not sleeping, add the widget and force sleep everything before you turn off your screen
Get BBS results (do the 5-6 hours while sleeping) - improved?
3 - Install Naptime from the google play store (by Fransico Franco)
Get BBS results - improved?
Getting anal about battery usage?
4- Read up on Amplify - this yielded even more results for me. But this can take a bit of work to get right. There's a lot of great threads on XDA for setting this up.
5 -Smart network - allows you to control data, networks, wifi, bluetooh, nfc, gps on/off with a ton of great features for auto. management.
I have all the above and yield a 0.4%/hr drain on stand by (see signature for phone build).
Amplify is a god sent app. It has been 4 hours now, and I have been using whatsapp on and off (about 20 seconds each time) and I still have 97% left in the tank.

Facebook app has been known to cause serious battery drain in the past. Uninstall it and test again.
In 99% of the cases it is caused by an app. Try to find out which one is causing the drain.
Hi all,
Sorry for the delay and thanks for the replies. I performed a factory reset again, after clearing the cache etc, the same as I did last time. The only difference is I then installed Android 6.0.1
The battery drain has now gone. I didn't perform a restore of apps etc, and the only apps I have installed so far in addition have been Facebook and Facebook messenger but I have found these have had no effect at all on the battery drain. I haven't even updated the stock apps (apart from the security ones).
I now get two days of use easy. It also seems to be running slightly faster. I will update apps one by one, over the course of a few days to make sure nothing causes it again...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-extreme-battery-life-t3095884
I use this guide, works really great to limit wake locks.
And I don't use Fb app but use the browser instead, battery lasts easily two days of "heavy" usage !
I found the problem, or at least a major bug. Whenever you cast to Google Chromecast Audio and then stop casting completely there is a massive wakelock until you next restart the phone. My phone was awake all night and down to 20% battery life. Android OS takes a massive portion of the battery life and under keep awake stats it's 9 hours +. It seems that when it says disconnected it is not. A major bug! I'll try and report it using Google's bug reporter...

Nope, Doze had no affect at all but it should be as it was sitting stationary overnight - normally the drain overnight is a few percent at the most, last night it was around 65% and I was left with 20% in the morning and this was I think the first time I had used Google Chromecast Audio since the factory reset with great battery life up to last night... I could try Servicely but I am not sure on the service to kill and I'd like to keep it 100% stock for now so I can help out Google to fix the bug (or Motorola if they bother)... What a pain as I just bought 4x Google Chromecast Audios!!
I have reported it here in the Android bug tracker, feel free to comment / star the issue to bring it to Google's attention.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=208324
However I am not sure if this is a Motorola Issue or a Google Marshmallow / Chromecast issue?? Motorola support have been very unhelpful so no luck if that is the case...
If anyone else with Chromecast Audio could confirm the bug that would be great.
Thanks
Laurence

Style Mod heat issues?

Ever since I got the device, I've noticed that whenever I get bored and put the wood stylemod on that came with the device, even in standby, man this thing heats up a lot. Anyone else have this issue?
I have seen this in other forums. Do you have Gsam Battery monitor installed? My bet is theres an app running in the background. Gsam can tell you what apps are running.
Try leaving bluetooth and wifi off when not in use, turn off bluetooth in location settings, not sure if it would help but I did that day one, always have the style mod on when not connected to the speaker, only time I notice heat is while charging and casting fpse to chromecast.
Mines having no issue at all, and i always have wifi Bluetooth on

[Question] Wear App draining too much phone battery

Hello!
I'm having an issue with the Wear App on my HTC 10.
I recently got a Huawei Watch (1st gen) and the Wear App is consistently the top battery draining app on my phone with 50%+ at the end of the day and the wake locks are crazy, my phone barely goes into deep sleep. Now, I know Bluetooth drains the battery and all that as I previously had a Pebble so I'm used to having Bluetooth on all day but I never saw this behavior.
I've tried factory resetting the watch, deleting the wear app and setting up the whole thing all over again but no dice. I only have a couple of apps on the watch (Telegram, Uber, Fit and Pujie) so the watch is probably not requesting a lot of data thus waking up the phone.
Has anyone faced something similar? how can I fix this?
