What will happen if I flash it? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, what will happen if I flash N910F full stock rom (including b/l, modem etc)? I have the N910G variant and I really wish to update to lollipop but there hasn't been any news for it in like literally a month. I live in Australia so if I do lose some bands, there are still ones that are compatible with Australia.
Also is it just me or is KitKat stock so laggy and slow? I get battery drain and overheating. I had a Note 3 before and never experienced any of these issues...
Thanks Guys! :good:

I'd advise not to as it may produce unexpectable results from losing IMEI to a Total brick. Never seen a case that it has worked, except when the kernel is not flashed and or kernal is modified to fit the new model.

Can only agree with that. There are high chances that your phone will end up being a paperweight. You don't flash anything youre not sure about via odin

[Q] note3 n9008 available roms?

Hi guys, my dad is bring a n9008 back from China. It has the qualcom 800 cpu onboard. I have done alot research on this phone, and only found the guide to root and flash recovery. So my question is: is it possible to flash roms made for other variants( such as n9005) onto n9008? Since the n9008 won't support the wifi calling from TMO, i would rather put a CM or AOSP on it.

as always, you got your phone from china, get help there, in other words, if you want support, get yor phones in your own country, imagine this, you will get a warranty also, is not that amazing?, yes you save some money buying overseas, or from a no one knows about seller, but, at the end, you get no support, think abot that in the future,
Pray its not a fake

well i got the phone as a gift. so its not my choice at first place.
so far i'm able to install all of the n9005 roms(x note, omega, lidroid) and everything works flawlessly.
the tmobile rom can be installed normally, but i just cant turn on the wifi( it stucks at turning on screen)
anyone got a solution to that?
Now you can install a CM11 ROM!
I too have been given a GN3 as a gift but it's the N9008 model.
I tried flashing the latest N9005 KK stock firmware, but I had no luck.
Do you know if there's a possibility of "changing" the model to a N9005? Hardware wise I believe they are exactly the same?
I imagine LTE is also not on this particular model? Am I correct to say that all Snapdragons are capable of having LTE? Would it be the firmware that "enables" LTE?
I don't really want to be on the Chinese firmware.
I've rooted the device and got gapps on their, but I'd rather a proper international firmware.
If anybody can help, it'd be great.

Advice on flashing to official (but non-telco) ROM

About to get a phone on contract with a major telco in Australia...
In theory, it's fine* to flash to another country/regional ROM that isn't telco_branded, so long as it's an official Samsung ROM, right?
Hoping to flash to an official Sammy ROM for a country/region that usually gets major Android updates far quicker than Australia or Australian telcos.
Thank-you.
*by "fine", I mean it won't trip Knox

If you phone is not carrier branded(N910F or N910C) you are fine with flashing a ROM from Samsung...it won't trip KNOX.

Wait, but mine will be telco_branded (buying on contract), are you claiming it's absolutely not possible then?
Even if I'm flashing from an official Sammy ROM to another official Sammy ROM, how so?

I was on Telstra 4.4.4 then flashed to the Australian 5.0 on Sammy and knox tripped. There isn't Telstra 5.0 yet so I used the Australian one. I'm on N915G but the phone is a company phone so I'm not overly stressed on tripping knox. I think flashing a Telstra 5.0 on Sammy when available or OTA update you might be OK. Anyway went back to 4.4.4 I was missing Xposed to much among other things. Xposed for lollipop didn't play nice for me.
Sent from one of my Notes.
Damn it. Someone told me that; so long as you're flashing to an official Sammy ROM, it shouldn't trip.
What if I flashed to country/region other than Australia, & what if I went for a 4.x ROM instead of 5.x?
I don't care about root, xposed, & all that just yet, happy to be on a 4.x ROM...
Want to be on a stock one though not branded, & ideally one for a region/country that gets updates sooner & more regularly/reliably.

Can't speak to that can only speak to my experience sorry. But l suspect anything outside Telstra will trip knox. They have really locked these suckers down. I think some Devs have gotten around it but not for my devise N915G......yet.

Not sure how the other poster had that happen (on their Note Edge I assume?) but anyway, you can't flash another region's Note 4 firmware like the good old days.
Samsung, for whatever reason, has made 20i-sh variants of the Note 4 and Australia has the N910G model. This G model is also used by India, Sri Lanka and Singapore (but Singapore has a different boot setup or kernel for some reason).
Your best bet is to flash XSA firmware which is Australian unbranded firmware, this will get updates quickest and it will remove any carrier bloat. Flashing this in Odin will not trip Knox, I've flashed it several times and even loaded the Indian firmware once and there were no issues but I've gone back o XSA. As soon as unbranded units start receiving the Lollipop OTA (reckon maybe another 6 monts? Sigh) you'll get it too instead of waiting for Telstra to delay it another 2-3 months.
Here's the link to it on Sammobile: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/39199/N910GDTU1ANK3_N910GXSA1ANK3_XSA/
Thanks mate,
So you reckon none of the countries in our pool*, will get it substantially -or even mildly- sooner than Oz?
If yes, what do you base that on?
Thanks again!
*You sure it's just India/SL/Sg?

Doubt it! There's only been one real update in nearly 6 months and that was just after release date...i think India got it slightly earlier? Can't really recall! If you check sammobile.com and look at firmware for N910G you can see that these are the only countries. Any updates after November 2014 are carrier specific ones, but nothing for the unbranded models so it's hard to work out a trend of which country gets the updates earliest.
Don't even bother with Singapore because of the difference in their hardware, it's either India or Australia you have to pick from. And if you flash the Indian firmware you'll get charged for a stupid international Sms message to India when you first boot that it doesn't warn you about.
I asked the same question over at Sammobile and indications are that it won't trip Knox by flashing the Indian variant on an Australian phone. I haven't tried it myself though. But quite close to taking the plunge

So it looks like the LP OTA came out much sooner that you were lamenting!?!
Just in time for me, as I only got my Note4 last Wednesday evening
Still debating though, whether or not to go for one of the other variants listed here:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N910G/
Love to know if any of them have a track-record of getting it several wks (or more) sooner than Oz.*
Finally....
What do I need to proceed, just Odin & then away we go? Is it available for OSX , or is it Windows only?
I have access to a Windows env, so no "biggy" either way...
*I don't care about a 1 off international SMS charge, I'll also steer clear of Singapore ofc
I've since determined that yes, Odin is all I need, I think, & it's def. Windows-only, I think.
Main thing holding me up now, is this...
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2382726&p=40#r786
Several more posts back n forth after that one.
After all that's done, I'll be good to go with installing Odin & Kies in my Win10 VM, & then proceeding with the flashing.
But only after I've decided that I def. want to go for the Aussie ROM, or one of the others (excluding Singapore).

It was still about a month earlier! But not as bad as I was predicting You'll need Windows, I've never had luck on my macbook using variants of Odin designed for Mac, it's just too much hassle IMO.
You don't have many variants to pick from, India got the only two main updates that have been released for the 910G model 2 out of 2 times quicker than AU or Singapore so if you want the quickest updates and also want your gallery pics to auto-rotate along with being able to share to an email client from an image in the gallery then you'll be happy with the Indian ROM.
Just need to download the firmware, run Odin, turn off phone then hold Vol Down + Power until it loads 'Download Mode'. Press Vol Up to continue, plug your phone into PC, Odin will detect the phone (which you can tell if you see a port number appear) then click on the 'AP' button and locate the unzipped firmware file and flash. Takes a few minutes.
What about Sri-lanka, or that "Unknown" variant?
Hmm that last paragraph, little too vague for my liking, you aware for any detailed step-by-step tutes?

Wouldn't bother with them! Actually, the steps are better explained on Sammobile under the download link. So this would be your preferred firmware along with better instructions.
They're not really detailed because it's a lot easier than it sounds, but if you're worried might be better to watch a youtube video first to get a visual i.e, https://youtu.be/Ulz-1UYzHBA
That vid shows it being done for the S4 but Odin is for most samsung phones so the steps are the same.

I think tryfound has a pretty good idea of what he's talking about, no need to "LOL".
He's from Oz too, a regular at WP (Whirlpool) no less...

Hint: it's nothing to do with not being able to flash some CV's that are official Samsung fw.

Samsung N910F with N910T bootloader and N910F CSC?! can't upgrade to Lollipop help!!

Hello all I just recently purchased a Galaxy Note 4 and I'm trying to install lollipop via ODIN but it keeps failing I think partly because the bootloader shows up as N910T when the phone model is actually N910F european model that was bought in the UK obviously the phoned has been tampered with in the past and I would like to change the bootloader and baseband which are both N910T to N910F however the CSC shows up as N910FXXU1ANK4 i don't understand this?. Bootloader version is N910TUVU1ANJ7? the phone thinks it is the US T-Mobile Variant im guessing somebody screwed it up in the past? anyhow I need to be able to flash N910F 5.1.1 Lollipop to the phone but it always results in FAIL!(Auth) in Odin v3.0.9 .

Try Flashing a stock N910F Kitkat firmware first.
Can you confirm the phone is actually N910F by removing the battery and checking the label?
Of if you are rooted install Samsung Phone Info app from the Google Playstore which might give more insight.

It can be possible, If the device is carrier unlocked the phone still contains some bands which work here in the UK, only Verizon and At&t are less likely to work. My bet is that the previous owner flashed a stock N910F based ROM on-top of a N910T variant. The best you can do is install a de-bloated ROM or remove the apps yourself.

Note: I consider my self a semi-expert but this situation is totally weird.
sorry for necroing this post but i have the same issue with my note 4..

all attempts to flash any n910f bootloaders/baseband/stock rom using odin results in emmc write error on aboot.
so is my device a fake n910f ?? (because the sticker says n910f while the phone is n910t bootloader)

Your phone is masked with n910f but reality is you got n910t t.mobile note 4 and sadly you cannot convert to n910f.
Sticker is faked you have refurbished device.
Its very easy to fake any device even i can do it with root
You will also notice your knox is 0x1 when you go to download mode so it means that someone use root to fake entire device.
Return it now if you bought new with warranty.

Hey Trex, thanks for the reply..
yea it seems like it's a referb but i bought it used for a really good price and everything works with it.
It was such a headache the first day i got it trying to flash anything using odin and nothing worked because i kept downloading and flashing n910f files, I have a lot of experience with rooting/roms but this is the first time i actually didn't know what to do, until hours later when i noticed that in the bootloader it says n910T not F and then everything was good from there.
I won't be returning it as the n910t accepts the same roms as the n910f/g with datafix (i'm using aurora 3.1 for n910f with datafix and it's working perfectly), also the unit i got is like new with 0 scratches and with everything working great so there's that too..

The same thing happened to me 3 days ago, mine was a N910S flashed as a N910F. You're a bit more lucky than i was because the N910T is actually the same snapdragon variant as the N910F. I think the whole hardware parts might be identical. How is the battery life? Any battery drain issue? How much on screen-on-time do you get?

I got screen on time about 4 hours
In my opinion n910s better then n910t/f because n910s/c comes with exynos octa 8core 64 bit processor but sadly no good roms available for n910s but if you use stock it works just good as n910c.
Ram management and games lot smoother and also no heating issues at all unlike snapdragon variants.

The one i had was seriously heating up
If you are using low class micro sdcard and battery that can also cause heating issues cuz apps struggle to run and processor need to run at higest frequency.
Do factory reset and try phone without micro sdcard and use for 1 or 2 days
And try another battery if you can.

Your device is n910t and faked with n910f.
Download link for latest marshmallow firmware below
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=385035244224395816
Extract and Flash this firmware using odin.
It will not sim lock your device but your phone will be completely n910t and there will be no many languages.i suggest if lollipop is working fine with you then don't update.there is nothing new in marshmallow and it will make your device slower then lollipop.
Thanks a lot tex888 ,,so what i understand the only bootloader that i can install is the Tvariant.
If i nstall a custom recovery can i install a custom rom fr language without problem.
if no i will keep my 5.0.1 with french language

So I was wondering if this is possible. My phone (A510F running lollipop 5.1.1) is locked to a carrier but I was planing on flashing an unbranded 6.0.1 (from Italy). Marshmallow will eventually come to my country but I just can`t wait anymore. Will flashing this firmware brick anything ?? I am well aware that the phone will remain locked to my carrier, since the lock has to do with the phone`s imei number, but is anything else going to be affected ? Anyone had a similar experience ? Your answers are really appreciated.
Bad idea, never flash unbranded firmware on a locked phone as it leads to all sorts of problems. Get turn phone unlocked first and then u can flash any firmware.

hey i got my note 4 (N910P) from Texas and brought it to my home country India so i just read the message but i wanted to confirm that if i flash my sprint note 4 (N910P) with a different country rom or any other rom then will it be causing any problem ? i have unlocked it but i am now facing the issues with the carrier featured applications so it is unlocked and ya of course i will keep the model no. in mind for finding the rom then it will be good to go right if i flash it with the same model no. the country doesn't matter ? also tell me how can i become sure of that it is unlocked
TIA dude

why would you ask Note 4 questions in A Series threads when the Note 4 threads are at least 10x more active? Besides, no one will know the answer here anyway.

SOLVED

Hello everyone
So i got AT&T note4 SM-N910A on a good deal about 135$ yesterday and its unlocked running on android 5.0.1 lollipop i just want to flash 6.0.1 marshmallow stock via ODIN but i afraid if i flash another stock rom it will get network locked and i know deep down so far this thing is not rootable. so please anyone know exactly is it safe to upgrade from 5.0.1 to 6.0.1 without messing anything up because its running a modified firmware with lot of languages included and all blotware/bootanimation/tethering hotspot unlocked etc from AT&T removed.
Here are some screenshots to help understand the device i got.
TIA
EDIT-I FLASHED STOCK 6.0.1 AND EVERYTHING WORKS FINE

Flashing stock with Odin is harmless, I'd go for it

Thanks for replying
Yes indeed odin is harmless but my only concern was sim network lock because i have usa AT&T note 4 and i live outside usa .
previously i had sprint note 4 and i flashed stock via odin and it got network locked it was showing "invalid sim" but this doesn't happens with Tmobile/verizon/AT&T thankfully .
thats y i thought better to ask and take advice in xda.
Have a good day:good:

Now that you mention it, I did get that error on my T-Mobile Note 3 a while ago. I upgraded to the latest version via Odin (I also live outside the US) and the phone is unlocked, but I kept getting invalid T-Mobile SIM inserted and didn't get any data.
Fortunately, my plan wasn't to go back to stock, only to test GPS (Google Maps) on stock. After that, I went immediately to a custom ROM and did not get that error any more.
Hope you don't get it xD
Good day :good:
