Where on earth is Lollipop? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I have a British Note 4, running BTU and I'm still waiting for Lollipop. Having owned many many devices over the last few years, I'm more than used to this waiting game, but it's getting a bit crazy now?
Lollipop was released a few weeks after the Note 4 was announced, we are now three, almost four months in to the following year and I'm yet to receive the update?
Poland, Samsung's Beta location received the update a long time ago. What's going on are there some serious Lollipop issues?

If you're running Exynos CPU then apparently were awaiting Intel to produce drivers for the radio. I have N910U international unbranded model and no update yet either, yet most carrier models are updated, very unusual. I feel you though, we are almost in to the 4th month of the year and I seem to recall SS mentioning GN4 will be receiving Android 5.0 shortly 6 months ago lol, oh well looks like I may consider the Saygus V2, beast of a phone!

I wish I could say that's the model I have but unfortunately it isn't! I'm running the N910F

I'm using the same phone and I'm wondering exactly the same. Keep checking this forum nearly daily to see if there is any news but nothing. Must be coming soon tho.

Lolipop update for Note 4 its official a failure!! I see HTC One M8 and LG G3 and Note 3 that i sold to buy the Note 4 with oficial updates and my Note 4 on 4.4.4
Worst... no oficial word on the subject by Samsung.

At last someone asked this question, I was wondering why no one has asked this already!

Samsung should update us
note 3s are being updated etc ...but most unlocked carrier free international phone still no update.....Samsung should say something like we are sorting out bugs but we plan to release it within the next few weeks.
the way they are doing it now doesn't help create a good brand

Although hard every company should be like Apple when it comes to software updates. Everyone should get it at the same time.

The G version we have down here in Australia is in the same boat. Until every component is built in house (applies to any manufacturer) then software updates for every model variation won't be possible. Sucks but usually comes with the option of choice.

The UK is one of the countries which has the gear VR and that might be the reason for the delay as the UK note 4 has to work with the gear VR on lollipop and is waiting for oculus update.

No one gives a flying you know what about Gear VR, its a poor excuse to prolong an update so that SS can release S6 in hope (we whom remain pre updated and with bugs) that we jump ship!
Deplorable and unforgivable!
Another lost customer here Samdung, better to not bull**** consumers when releasing products!

Calm down mate. The only thing I don't get, is how come you're on XDA developers forum and still doesn't have lollipop? I'm on ee and have dirty flashed with Odin first German and now that new Dutch rom and it's all good. UK is important market for Sammy, hence I guess they want to make sure everything is buttoned up before proper release. DBT rom wasn't good, that's why they stopped rollout.

You really think that people are going to change their phone just because the new one has the latest lollipop? Surely you would have to be an idiot to that.

Kitkat for SM-P600 in Europe

Hi!Last May Samsung released the update to android 4.4.2 for SM-P600 (WiFi model) in spain (PHE). Nowadays Samsung hasn't realised the update for any other European county yet .Does anybody knows why?
...because....Samsung. Sorry, no one knows why, we assume bug fixing but I doubt those at Samsung have a good excuse other than they can't be bothered. Take solace in the fact that when it will be released, it hopefully will be completely bug free, but don't count on it!

I've given up on ever getting it. Mine is OK without kitkat though so I am not bothered. Especially as I will be getting the nexus 8/9 when it arrives. Samsung cannot keep up with the range of devices they have.
KitKat...when? Who knows?...Do Samsung care?
Who knows? There never seems to be any rhyme or reason to Samsung's firmware update schedule.
It usually doesn't bother me as when you read around, most of the other manufacturers are just as bad. Lately though, Samsung seem to have gotten progressively worse with their firmware updates.
In the case of the SM-P600 I bought this as it was their latest tablet at the time of buying (Christmas 2013) and I thought it would be a prime candidate for a quick update. How wrong could i be?
I've always favoured Samsung hardware over other stuff (not sure why, I just like their stuff) but the firmware update debacle with their phones and tablets is seriously making me think about a switch to a Nexus next time round. At least you know what you're getting with a vanilla Google phone.
Come on Samsung, pull your finger out!!
They just don't care and they wonder why their sales are constantly falling...

Exactly!
Some days I think who cares about the update but then I tell myself why do I settle for this aweful service from Samsung ... I have an S3 and safe to say I wont buy a Samsung phone anytime soon and I'm hopeing in a couple of years time when I upgrade my tablet there is something equal or better than this Note 2014 because Samsung are a joke with the updates. Last update for UK was November - 9 Months ago! Samsung clearly don't care and tbh I no longer care for Samsung and I have actually been talking many people out of buying Samsung products because of this.

The Note 10.1 2014 is definitely the last samsung mobile product I'll ever buy. In the future I'll stick with Apple and Google as they provide updates for a decent amount of time. Heck, my iPhone 4S is even running the latest software ...

Why would people want the kitkat release? Battery life is less and you lose card writes for third party apps. My 2014 is much better staying now with 4.3. Battery life is better and all of my apps work fine with writing to the sd card. Only catch is 128gb cards ironically do not work with 4.3. 64g are fine though.

Well i read battery is a equal and initially I was annoyed at the sd card restrictions but I've noticed lately it wont realy affect me.
Kitkat is meant to be faster and also lately my note crashes ... no idea why as I havent messed about with anything, this is exactly what happened to my S3, fine at first and slowly starts to slow. Simple as Samsung are rubbish, all too common issues and they aint getting my money in the future.

There is nothing stopping you from installing 4.4^^ As far as I know you won't break anything when you install official software. Just download and install any 4.4 firmware...
I use it since 4 months or so (custom rom based on the spanish 4.4), battery is fine and sd card can be reenabled with root.
Still would be nice if they released an official version for the other countries. There is no reason not to do it.

Hello guys,
a silly question but can I upgrade my tablet to 4.4.2 Spain STOCK version without tripping the knox? I'm on 4.3 stock -Belgian model. We have been waiting and waiting and waiting but it doesnt seem that Samsung is ever going to upgrade the rest of the N2014 p-600 tablets. Some were lucky and received the upgrade and some like the Belgium, Netherlands, UK not... (((((

What's happened to 5.1.1 update

Is it because when we get it our battery problems will be solved and battery life will beat note 5... Strange that full price unlocked phones still no updates but usa carriers have. Disgraceful really... One thing I really like about the iPhone upgrades are fast and for every model with support for older models at least 2 or three years
Santa will bring it.
I agree with you that Samsung are holding 5.1.1 for Note 4 and that's probably not to fix bugs but more likely because they want Note 4 users move to Note 5.
But I don't think Apple is the best example when it comes to updates. They usually release updates that have performances or battery life problem on older iphone's models and only newer models (or the one from the year before) can access to all fonctionalities.

That can't be true. The 5.1.1 update is only available in the US right now which is the only country (apart from Korea) that will actually get the Note 5.
Yes us cariers... But what about the rest of the world.... Not to mention people who paid full price.

Is it not normally the case that the clever folk on the XDA forums can make it so that the US firmware for 5.1.1 can work on the international variant 910F?

Shouldn't be too much work, but I doubt it would be worth it considering the official update could come any day now. Also Sprint and T-Mobile released the updates, not Samsung, so Samsung could still be holding back the firmware for international Note 4 customers. There's just nothing we can do right now, other than to wait for the update to drop. I'm going to guess we'll see it the same time the Note 5/S6/S6 Edge/S6 Edge Plus (how many top tier phones does one company really need?) gets updates to Android Marshmellow (which is running awesome btw on my Nexus 5).

Sammy have screwed things up with lollipop on the sd variants. To get it to boot you need the modem files from the same base. This means to get 5.1.1 tmob booted we'd need the tmob modem. Trust me I've tried every thing I can think of to get either the tmob or sprint releases to boot but no luck

I don't think Samsung is holding back updates because of their selling policy. The usual customer doesn't know abou it. We on xda are keeping an eye on the updates, but we are probably just 1% and that isn't significant.

That is a valid argument, but most regular people at the store normally go for the phone with the newer android version, so even for regular Joes it matters.

I don't know...I'm just saying that my family is just buying the newer phones and they don't know what android version they are getting. I recently got my brothers note3 to use and he didn't update at all since he buyed it. And I think he's an avarage user.
The android versions are confusing for the avarage user, not like iOS. Google and Samsung and other manufacturers don't make such big deals of the updates like Apple does.
We've been waiting far too long for 5.1.1, I must say. Samsung truly have taken their time.
I've had the S2, S3 and S4, and never waited this long for updates.
I am loving my Note 4 more than any other Samsung...heck any phone in general I've owned, that is including more than my 1st smartphone, the Nokia N80, which I absolutely adored. Yet I can't help but feel Samsung is letting down what has to be their greatest smartphone in recent times with slow updates, its such a shame really.

Never waited this long for updates? Seriously, seems like you never owned a Galaxy Note N7000. More than 8 months waiting for the Jelly Bean 4.1.2 update and one year for Carrier Updates. The best treated Note was the Galaxy Note 2, which recived JB 4.2.2, 4.3, 4.4 Kitkat and even Lollipop was planned for it. But yes, now that the Note 5 is released, we need to wait a couple of months to see a big update for our Note 4. I'm pretty sure that Android 6.0 Marshmallow will be the last one, sadly, knowing Samsung and their update policy.
It is very simple. They delay 5.1.1 because of Note 5. They want customer have more reasons to upgrade, to buy their new phone. And if they do like 5.0.1, just upgrade OS core, no more features like on S6, Note 4 user will be disappointed with them. Many user want removable battery, better battery life option, sd card support so they will not upgrade soon!

You are right, this is the truth.
I will keep my Note 4 (KitKat 4.4.4), I downgrade from 5.0.1 because of bugs and I will not update my Note 4 to any new firmware unless it will be bug free as much as the 4.4.4 firmware.
that will lead me to change my mind regarding what is next after Note 4 (My next smartphone) ?!!!
I will think twice before buying something from Samsung, specially after using glass for building their smartphones.

Post all information about Note PRO getting or not Android 6.0 Marshmallow here!

Hi everyone! I created this thread to collect any info about getting a Marshmallow update on our beloved Note PRO.
Did Sammy say anything about it?
Greetings!
Boy that would be nice for it to be updated to 6.x but I'm not holding my breath. I read an article that said our tablets are considered old and outdated as the came out Feb 2014... Nice.
FYI just updated Nexus 7 to 6.0 and it's from 2013.

Considering the tablet is less than two years old, and Samsung has a pretty good track record of providing OS updates during the first 2 years, I'd say chances are good. But, it'll probably be next fall when the "N" release is ready to drop. haha
With that said, the one factor that I think works against the Note Pro is the fact that it probably didn't sell very many units. It was incredibly expensive, and most people simply didn't want a tablet that big.
Time will tell.
I doubt it we haven't even got lollipop yet so the chance of marshmallow is 0%

I'm not sure what you mean, I'm on 5.0.2 right now, which is lollipop. The only feature I care about on Android M is Doze. My tablet drain about 20% overnight or when not in use for a day and I feel like Doze can bring that down to 5% or less so it's comparable to Ipad's standby time. I've tried Greenify and other similar "sleep" applications and they end up not saving any battery.
Idk our hardware is quite similer to Note3 hardware which wont get M !!
Just dont get your hopes so high guys since this company wont listen or even care about us loyal customers !
Trust me i've been in a situation like this before with my Note2.
Anyway i don't use my tablet as a social media device as they are the most reason to drain battery so quickly especially viber also turn off location completly.
So i really dont care about google so called doze or whatever sorcery they keep throwing at us as some marketing s**t !!!

Still on 4.4.2 here in the UK so no we still havnt recieved lollipop yet and 2 weeks ago Andriod L was realesed a year ago most google devices are using marshmallow now If you take Samsungs time scale as a factor google will have upgraded all there machines to 8.0 by the time we would recieve 6.0, so like I said I doubt very much they will upgrade an old tablet that didn't sell well to Marshmallow. If by some miracle they do, it will be 2 years out of date so again no real point to.
I've been researching about an update for my Verizon p905v for several days now because I switched to T-Mobile a few months ago and they don't sell this tablet so I didn't trade it in. I just added it to my account and put T-Mobile's sum card in it but the tablet won't recognize the sun card and still thinks it's a Verizon tablet, but that's off topic, just said that to explain why I couldn't update through the settings. Anyway, through Kies I was able to update to 5.1.1 a week or two ago. I read somewhere why researching this that the p905v WILL be getting the 6.0 update! It listed a few Samsung devices and the Note Pro 12.2 was the last one on the list to be getting it. I'll try to find where I read that and post a link here if I can find it again. FYI, you can't judge the update or timeline by comparing to any Nexus device, that site also said all Nexus devices will get the update first since they are Google devices. Hope this helps answer some questions, again I'll post a link to that site if I can find it.

Verizon is CDMA and TMobile is GSM. The two are not compatible. It will not work unless the tablet has both radios. Not sure if the note PRO has a GSM radio. If it does, then you will need to turn the radio on. Probably by loading a custom ROM.

I just bought the galaxy note pro 12.2, barely used for a good price. Even thought it's old, it should do what I need. I would hope to get at least 3 years out of it and the update to marshmallow would be nice. This is my first samsung tablet. I had previous iPad. Is it not likely Samsung will update this tablet? What's the big difference between lollipop and marshmallow anyway? Maybe it won't really matter.
Everyone tells me I should buy the iPad pro instead because of newer tech.
I think that the only way we will get Marshmallow for this tablet is if a dev cooks it up for us. I'm also wondering why there is no news of a new version of this table (or any Note tablet) in the works. I'm wondering if Samsung has abandoned the Note series of tablets. If they have that would be a shame. I use an iPhone, but the handwriting and multi-screen are of importance to me (so no change to an iPad).

I too am wondering why there isn't news of a new tablet. I was in the market for one, and didn't want another iPad. I have an iMac as my computer, but don't like apples phones so have galaxy note 3 and thought my iPad was limited in function so wanted a galaxy tab. I had to buy used. I know with CES being around the corner, if there is something in the works, they should announce it then. But I couldn't wait. I hope to at least get 2 years out of the note pro.
if nothing else, maybe someone will make a cyanogenmod 13 rom for it. that would be really nice.
Techradar marshmellow
"Android Marshmallow update: when can I get it?"
They mention the note pro.
I think it is a good idea for Samsung to do this asap as the market for large screen stylus powered devices is growing quickly with the iPad pro and tablet 4. The already with the note pro have a foothold device in that sector so they can launch off the back of it. Keeping the note pro relevant is important for now.
BTW, I've used both the iPad pro and windows 4 tab at work and still prefer the Note pro 12.2 even though it is a year old and less powerful. At the price point of the Note pro it is a fantastic device.

S5 901F Marshmellow?

Now with the S5 getting MM I'm really hoping it comes to this device. At the end of the day it has way better specs if it does not come from Samsung this is my last device with them forever.

I'm also wondering the same thing. I'm waiting for the Marshmallow update and checking the updates daily. What's worse is that I cannot do it OTA, because when I check for updates, I receive a message regarding "unauthorized modifications", so Kies or SmartSwitch are my options. Regardless, I hope the update for G901F will also come until May 19th or when the scheduled timeframe for the update ends. It's annoying that you can't find info about this update anywhere.
It will come
There are many many different variants of the Galaxy S5 model. The update is being slowly rolled out to each model and will reach the SM-G901F very soon. They won't leave this model out. They roll out each build to the different models in a certain order incase of mass bugs within the firmware. Imagine rolling out the firmware to all devices in one day and suddenly realising there were critical bugs that left people with faulty devices.
I think its a shame that Samsung have so many different models of all their phones because it just delays the update process... but hey that's how they appeal to people by having so many buying options. I bought my S5 early last year as it was still the flagship in this country at the time... it took months and months for 5.0.2 to be rolled out to it only to find it had terrible ram management issues and I had to resort to going back to KitKat 4.4! So the most up to date software isn't even 5.1!!! I can't even remember when Marshmallow was announced but I think it's coming up to almost 12 months now which is pretty ridiculous for our G901F to still not have it....
My lesson has been learnt... if you want the most up to date software for your phone then buy Nexus!
S6, S7... who cares LOL
I own the SM-G901F
it's my personal flagship and i want MM 6.1 asap
EDIT:
official firmware SM-G901F PHN came out, working fine here.
Not rooted beacuse i read all weird stuff when pple r using chainfire's autoroot
I think chainfire is a magician (grinn) and hope someone can tell me if the CF-Auto-Root-kccat6-kccat6xx-smg901f.zip works on Android 6.1.
(PHN= G901FXXU1CPF6 and the zipfile is G901FXXU1CPE1 (Vodafone) based, maybe thats the problem?)

Done with Samsung

Talk now is the S6 will be getting Android 7 soon, the S8 will be out in a few months and yet Samsung is sitting back releasing Android 7 through a bottle neck...........if they want to treat customers in this manner fine but I wont be party to it again, like last year when other countries and networks got Android 6 before the BTU beta users!

Well you could argue a few ways.
One - would you rather have rushed software with bugs, or tested software that works?
Two - there are a few models from the Samsung line so newer should get priority over older.
Three - Samsung should release less devices to show work on upgrades for existing users. Most people will upgrade at end of contract, which in most cases is 18 months to two years. So having a new product every two years will lead to better tech than the predecessor and a more unified user base with devices and more satisfied customers.
Sadly, business works on ever growing profit margins, so having a two year gap in growth would look bad for investors and other companies could surpass Samsung in growth in that time making the new models cost more to make up the previous years loss.
You could argue yes but its even out of the Oneplus 3 now, I wont be wasting hundreds with Samsung again..........oh and it wasn't really an argument you gave because Samsung has tested it, their just dripping the final release so only a handful of people have it

Me too. I regret my decision of choosing S7E over Pixel now.

Well, I'm going to post from the other side of the tacks on this one. I came to the S7 Edge from a 6P. I was even part of the beta program and got updates faster than anyone else. You know what? Whoopdeedo. There was nothing even in the last release version of N (7.1.1) that I had on the 6P that this S7 Edge can't and didn't already do long before it was put into vanilla Android. The upgrade to N will come to the S7 Edge shortly. Even here in Canada where updates seem to take forever from carriers, it is noted as coming soon, so we should see it in the next month or so.
But really, this phone is already performing so much better for me that the 6P ever did and has everything software wise and more than I ever had with straight N Android. Not sure why the updates are seemingly so important to some. This phone works great right now and my battery life is off the charts compared to the 6P on the latest version of N. Besides, N is coming to our phones shortly as well. As someone mentioned above, because it is taking longer, at least it won't be riddled with bugs and battery drain like on the 6P for me.

It wasn't an argument. I was just giving an explanation on the possible scenarios.
You have to understand that carriers may release their updates later than Samsung., even thigh Samsung have tested.

Yes we've been told this since December
Just wait. It's not hard, the update will come when it is due. If you are that eager for it then flash the BTU version. Samsung has their own way of releasing software, just like every other OEM.

Well, don't speak for everyone. I'm with Rogers here in Canada and they JUST posted "Coming Soon" on their website. So it's only been about a week or so since my carrier has said it is coming. Not Samsung's fault the carriers take forever to get their crap in there and test their version.

Like I said I wont be giving hundreds to a supplier that extracts the urine like this, I might even get the Oneplus 4 when its out, they've released it for the 3 now
I got fed up waiting for Singapore to update to Nougat, so I just flashed, with Odin, the Malaysian Nougat update, using my Home CSC. Worked perfectly, not data lost. My phone is not rooted
Well, the unlocked version in US is independent on carriers and does not has Nougat yet. It is not the carrier's fault if Samsung has multiple versions of the same phone and decides to update only a subset of all the versions.

No doubt there are bugs they can't fix and that's the real question: why samsung with their multimillion budget to hire skilled devs can't provide quality software update in time? Not to mention how many people replaced they catching fire note 7 with s7e... good strategy to treat all of them like that. Let's not forget that in 2017 even the normal user is becoming more and more aware about updates and their importance about his experience. After all, they can afford to hire more than one A team working on their flagship phone and attach it to s7/s7e development. If the patch BTU update works well I can guess they will start to roll out around the mid/end next week. Still, for me this is a really bad rollout, especially if we consider the beta test period.
dude stop whining and get a custom rom. ive been having nougat for over a week on my s7e now

Is there a custom rom for the Snapdragon version witg Nougat? Don't think so. If there is, will be happy to install.
