What to buy for MHL - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently got a Verizon Note 4 and found out my TV is MHL compatible. I can't seem to figure out if I need a MHL 3.0 to HDML adapter, or if there is a simple cable that I can connect to my tv. Any help would be much appreciated since I just found out about MHL and I'm having a difficult time figuring out what I need to buy.

Will MHL adaptor from Epic Touch 4G work?

Will the MHL adaptor from the Epic Touch 4G work on the S4, or will I have to buy a new one?
I am betting you will need the new 11 pin adapter, I think the old et 4g adapter is only 5 pin

yep I got the adapter from amazon for like $10.
Works great 1080p through msl also no need to charge the s4 while mirroring.

I got the samsung branded adapter.
I'd hate to ask, do you happen to have an amazon link for that adapter?
I searched amazon and all the samsung mhl adapters are $20-$30.
Also, is the S4 is 5 pin or 11 pin?
To be clear I am talking about an 11 pin adapter that allows the 5 pin mhl cable to work on the gs4 since that is what the op is asking about. A new 11 pin mhl cable is around $30.

You don't lose any functionality by using the 5 to 11-pin adaptor over the new mhl adaptor, do you? Does it still need to be externally powered?

Hey, the LGV20 can achieve HDMI connection via Slimport, they just released it today but is already unavailable, I contacted Slimport and they sent me the link to purchase it via Amazon, but I have to wait until it is back in stock. Here is the link - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M733OQ...TF8&colid=3VG3W7D1P2WC4&coliid=I340M8K4L0HATV
So to be clear, the LG V20 does not support MHL, the hdmi connection is achieved via Slimport which is different technology

No problem, I was excited to find out this phone can connect to a tv or any device that has hdmi via Slimport since Samsung ditched MHL for the last like 3 phones they released, so LG to the rescue! :highfive:

To be CLEARER than clear the LG v20 DOES INDEED SUPPORT MHL. Understand, MHL does require an adapter. Supporting MHL doesn't mean you don't have to buy something else inbetween the TV and the phone. What it means is the something else you have to buy is an MHL adapter. I am not familiar with this slimport adapter, but just because it does support that, does not mean it doesn't support MHL. So if you get an MHL adapter with a USB C connector that says it supports the LG v20 then you can plug the output from that adapter into your HDMI input on your television. As I have done with mine. I don't know of any smartphone nor have I ever seen one that doesn't require an adapter or adapter cable to be able to plug into a television set and share its video.
It can use any usb c to hdmi adapter. I bought a random usb c to usb a/ethernet/hdmi and hdmk, usb a and ethernet all work on the v20 with it. I know it's a necro post but seemed important
I've just tested my v20 and hooked it up to an LG tv (mhl capable) via mhl cable with a USB c adapter... It didn't work. The adapter has been confirmed to work fine...
This $10 adapter specifically lists the V20 as compatible: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0123PJ9BK

S8 Active usb-c to hdmi

Hello, sorry if this is being asked in the wrong section but I couldn't find a S8 Active forum. My question is does the active support usb-c to hdmi output like the S8 and S8+? Only reason I ask is because when I look up the usb-c to hdmi adapter on Samsung site and click supported devices it only lists the s8 and s8+, however when I look up the s8 active on Samsung site and click supported accessories it lists the usb-c to hdmi adapter. I would imagine it would,, since its supposed to be basically the same phone but want to be 100% sure before I buy one. This is a make or break option and the reason I want this phone in particular is because I have a wireless charger in my truck and my s7 edge only works when I take it out of the case. This is a hassle to deal with taking the case off and putting it back on and it's too thin for me to handle without a case plus it would scratch easy without a case. The active doesn't need a case. Does anyone know for certain that the usb-c to hdmi adapter will work with the s8 active.
The Samsung USB-C to HDMI adapter works fine for me on S8 Active.

Is yours the AT&T U.S. version or the European version? I only ask, because they have different chipsets with slightly different features., and I want to make sure before shelling out around $40 for the Samsung adapter.
I use this on my AT&T S8+ on TV's at home and hotels all the time.

Mine is working with the US At&T version.
ahurst12, are you using the S8 Active or the S8/S8+? Several vendors on Amazon selling USB-C to HDMI adapters have responded to people on the Questions/ Answers stating that the S8 Active doesn't output to HDMI. I have an S8 active and none of the HDMI adapters I've bought work.
If anyone using ONLY an S8 active has a working HDMI adapter, please post the brand and link to the product to help the rest of us.
Thank you sincerely
DarkNighttx, I'm using the Galaxy S8 Active, At&t version running nougut.
I don't have a link for it, but the USB C to HDMI adapter that is working for me was purchased from the Samsung website. It was listed for the 8 and 8+, but works fine on my Active.
