Warning: Twrp nandroid backup bug - Moto G General

For those who are flashing or have flashed twrp for moto g I want to warn you that don't take nandroid backup with it, it will result in bootloops.
Not only this after taking the backup you will not be able to flash stock firmware using fastboot as the system files will flash with an error IMAGE IS TOO LARGE and you will be stuck at bootlogo
It may also corrupt your data partition which will result in error while flashing custom ROMs using custom recovery and then again bootloops
It happened with me but now after some searching and hardwork I was able to flash cm 12 on my device. Device is working fine now but I can't go back to stock firmware
I recommend Philz touch recovery
EDIT - USE THIS TWRP MADE BY @h2o64

No you dont have to do this, you can use mtp in recovery and push a Rom on the phone. You can download stockrom in lost101 threat. And than flash this Rom. Nothing will lost

I know. That was a long time ago. I am using the latest recovery & everything is working fine for me now .

Found the solution at http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/help/bootloop-making-nanodroid-twrp-lollipop-t3061322
I just did "fastboot erase userdata" and my phone came out of bootloop !

Were you able to enter recovery after bootloops because I was not. It was stuck at twrp logo.
First I thought maybe there is an error with recovery partition of my phone but as it turned out twrp itself was the culprit
Then I flashed philz and its working fine

@sjandroiddeveloper - Perhaps your issue is not directly related to the TWRP backup failure, as others and myself, have been able to recover using: fastboot erase userdata.

First I didn't know that I could just run fastboot erase userdata & recover. Flashing the firmware files worked for me perfectly although that erased all the data. When the bootloop occurred I was not able to enter recovery. And like I said recovery is working fine for me now (XT1033) including flashing, backup, restore & wipe.

Yes, i was able to enter recovery (power + vol down) but no options worked from recovery (like factory reset normal boot etc..).
I connected my usb cable at recovery console and ran the fastboot command and it worked !

How to install the Lollipop on XT1068 and XT1069 variants with Dual-Sim working.

This method are originally made by the member ffosilva, I just made a step-by-step tutorial.
Works on the XT1068 (Dual-SIM) and XT1069 (DSTV)
What you need:
XT1068 or XT1069 stock ROM.
Unlocked Bootloader.
Necessary Files:
ADB
mfastboot
ROMS:
XT1064 Firmware
Lollipop modified to work dual SIM
Recovery:
CWM Philz Touch
OPTIONAL:
If something goes wrong...
XT1068 (Dual-Sim variant)
XT1069 (DSTV variant)
BUGS:
If use only 1 SIM: Nothing
If use 2 SIM's: Dialer fc when try to call or accept a call. You can use 2 SIMs, but you has to choice manually the SIM that you makes call. To solve this problem: Open the Dialer, Dialer setting (three dots) Call settings >phone account settings>Makes call with> Select the SIM that you use for make calls. (Correct-me if the names of options are wrong, cause I use another language.)
DSTV: function lost on XT1069.
Lets install Lollipop 5.0:
1. Download the necessary files.
2. Extract the adb tools, mfastboot, XT1064 firmware, CWM Philz Touchin a folder.
3. Put the Moto G on Bootloader Mode (Power on and Volume down)
4. Press and hold the Shift key, press the right button of mouse and select the option "Open a prompt".
5. Follow the commands below:
mfastboot.exe flash partition gpt.bin
mfastboot.exe flash motoboot motoboot.img
mfastboot.exe flash logo logo.bin
mfastboot.exe flash boot boot.img
mfastboot.exe flash recovery recovery.img
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
mfastboot.exe flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
mfastboot.exe erase modemst1
mfastboot.exe erase modemst2
mfastboot.exe erase cache
mfastboot.exe erase userdata
mfastboot.exe reboot
6. Wait the system start, move the file "update_nofsg.zip" to the Moto G internal storage's. You lost the signal, don't worry, cause you will recover when you do the next step.
7. Go to bootloader screen (power on and volume down) and install the CWM Philz Touch Recovery using the command "mfastboot.exe flash recovery CWM_Touch_Titan_V2.img".
7. Acess the recovery mode, just select "Recovery" in bootloader screen.
8. Select "Install" in the CWM Philz Touch, select the "update_nofsg.zip" file and wait the process finish (It takes a while, but it will work).
9. Reboot, wait the system boot and update the apps.
Well done, Android 5.0 Lollipop installed!
Thanks for you tutorial. Lollipop is not so smooth as Kitkat was..

Or just wait a little bit longer for lollipop to hit. Be any time soon for the dual sim version.

For in the Spanish XT1068 dialer FC continues. To continue waiting for the officer if that product or method works
It could not be done as follows: Flash the rom without flash the baseband files (either in exchange for American rom as the update for the lollipop)?
Like this:
Flash this:
Code:
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot reboot
Don't flash this:
Code:
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn

[Q] Cannot relock bootloader

I have Global version. then flashed US version and upgrade to lollipop. Later decided to go back to Global version for using CF-autoroot. SO I downgraded to KitKaT US first. I again then changed to global version.
The problem is, now, I cannot relock bootloader. I can chage to us and also in us version i cannot relock.
While I flash Fastboot flash boot boot.img it says downgrading; same for Fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0; downgrading error as well as invalid piv signed system image error.
Thus after mfastboot.exe oem lock command, it gives SST lock failure ! failed to validate system image in device display.
Applied flash according to :
mfastboot.exe oem lock begin
mfastboot.exe flash partition gpt.bin
mfastboot.exe flash motoboot motoboot.img
mfastboot.exe flash logo logo.bin
mfastboot.exe flash boot boot.img
mfastboot.exe flash recovery recovery.img
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
mfastboot.exe flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
mfastboot.exe erase modemst1

Short answer: You can still use the ota zip with unlocked bootloader.
(it won't let you relock if you're Downgrading)

Is there a long answer too?
I'm trying to understand it....i've got the same problem and I want to know in which situation i will be able to lock the bootloader again. Maybe with the lollipop release for xt1068?
I've got an XT1068 bought in UK.......and stuck with the same problem after upgrading to lollipop (xt1063 way) and then, after problems with root, downgrade.
I cant' lock the bootloader and if I install a stock firmware trying to lock the BL it i receive a lot of FAILED messaged (in partition, motoboot, boot, system system.img_sparsechunk1-2-3....) And can't lock with "SST lock failure ! failed to validate system image" error.
If I try to install a stock rom and i don't try to lock the bootloader i receive FAILED error only in the first 2 strings (gpt.bin and motoboot.img) ...maybe it's a normal beahvior. Don'tknow.
But this never happened before. Any suggestion / explanation? ^^
Thank you very much.
Apparently you are too lazy to find a solution, and it is here A very short answer. Use fastboot instead mfastboot.
Next time do not post threads with questions that are already answered.
Am I too lazy? trying with fastboot is one of the first things I did. And it gives exatly the same result.
Fortunatly a more polite user told me that it's normal that i cant relock the bootloader because i upgraded to lollipop and I can't relock downgrading.

That's true, you can't relock again if you upgraded to Lollipop.

[GUIDE] [XT1022] Restore Stock 4.4.4 firmware

Many users are not able to manually update their XT1022 to 5.0.2 as they are not having stock firmware on their phones. That's why while updating they are encountering these errors and they are fed up !
The common errors being faced are :
Status 7 error while installation/unexpected contents error/System says a new update is ready to be installed and when you press "I am in", the phone reboots and while installation you see a dead android "android with a red error mark" and then the phone reboots to 4.4.4 and says that the last update was unsuccessful !
To avoid these errors, you need to be on stock firmware before updating manually.
Please note that if you are flashing pure untouched ROM/pure optimised ROM, then it doesn't mean you are flashing STOCK FIRMWARE ! FIRMWARE means a lot more. And you can't flash firmware through recovery !
Many people are flashing pure XT1022 ROM and then they are saying that "I have flashed Stock firmware but then also I am getting UNEXPECTED CONTENTS ERROR WHILE UPDATING" !
If you want to flash stock firmware, follow these steps :
Download and install Moto E drivers on your pc. Link : https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_detail/a_id/99012/p/30,6720,9146
Download mfastboot files and extract the files in a folder. Link : https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B05Crz57q4zgZE1aVW5FT1RsUUU&usp=sharing
Download Stock firmware for XT1022 and extract the files to the same folder. Link : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B05Crz57q4zgY2lWUE9KZjlGeVU/view?usp=sharing
Now, reboot your phone into bootloader by pressing volume down + power for a few seconds. You will see the bootloader screen.
Go to the folder where you have extracted Stock Firmware and mfastboot files and open command prompt there (Press shift + right mouse button and click on open command prompt)
Now, its the time to enter commands. Execute these lines of command one by one checking that each command you executed returned ok !
commands :
mfastboot flash partition gpt.bin
mfastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
mfastboot flash logo logo.bin
mfastboot flash boot boot.img
mfastboot flash recovery recovery.img
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
mfastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
mfastboot erase modemst1
mfastboot erase modemst2
mfastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
mfastboot erase cache
mfastboot erase userdata
mfastboot reboot
If every command you entered was successfully executed, your phone will reboot into stock firmware !
Now, you can upgrade to 5.0.2 manually

Link : http://dl-1.va.us.xda-developers.com/2/4/2/7/6/6/7/mfastboot-v2.zip?key=gTbaSY_MHMqZMNf7yehIpg&ts=1423902465
Download Stock firmware for XT1022 and extract the files to the same folder. Link : https://mega.co.nz/#!SUZA3AbR!P_qdV24-ZpqSwKhCPjifBcd7en7Y7AkBZpRApb2loHs
Now, reboot your phone into bootloader by pressing volume down + power for a few seconds. You will see the bootloader screen.
Go to the folder where you have extracted Stock Firmware and mfastboot files and open command prompt there (Press shift + right mouse button and click on open command prompt)
Now, its the time to enter commands. Execute these lines of command one by one checking that each command you executed returned ok !
commands :
mfastboot flash partition gpt.bin
mfastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
mfastboot flash logo logo.bin
mfastboot flash boot boot.img
mfastboot flash recovery recovery.img
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
mfastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
mfastboot erase modemst1
mfastboot erase modemst2
mfastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
mfastboot erase cache
mfastboot erase userdata
mfastboot reboot
If every command you entered was successfully executed, your phone will reboot into stock firmware !
Now, you can upgrade to 5.0.2 manually

Which version of supersu? I use 2.68beta with no problems
i manage it now everything works. MM and root
i have to do everything step by step. this was the solution
How did you solve it?
I tried installing the zip with twrp (3.0.0-2) and it ends up stuck in the bootloader unlocked warning.
2.65, 2.67 and 2.68 tested. Reflash works fine as I use it to recover the phone.

You cant flash the zip via twrp. You have to use fastboot, Fairly simple. Just type the commands in 1 by 1

I was referring to SuperSU and vegdroid, should have been more specific.
Although it seems that they fixed the gyro so I don't need Xposed for that.

Is there a way to make a manual upgrade from 5.0.2 to 6.0.x? OTA doesn't work!?
I did it like in the first post. It worked for me. The only thing i switched was
mfastboot erase userdata
No problems so far
And it took you all the data and apps?
Yes. i dont have to install any app again
you should do a backup before you try to flash up to 6.0 .
@Hemphiz how did you rooted the mobile phone via fastboot?

I used this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-lte/general/rooting-moto-g-2015-lte-xt1078-t3086069
Except don't use his twrp/recovery file. download it from the official twrp site for Thea/xt1072 from here
https://dl.twrp.me/thea/
Kingroot also works. Though your bootloader will stay locked

Any Wifi and data fixes on xt1625

I have a second Moto G4 and I was curious if anyone got a fix for these issues? it happened a while back when I was trying to go back to factory image. there was a lot of errors. I cant seem ti find the screenshots of the errors that I got at the time. This was around January or so.There is no Mac Address in settings and theres no ip no way to turn data on and when I try wifi. it automatically shuts off. Doesn't detect my Sim Card or Service. says Emergency calls only
I have the same problem, I have got the sim working but no wifi or bluetooth yet.
When I load adb shell and grep the wireless module it says "WCNSS DRIVER NOT FOUND" even though it is there.
I found fix. Delete the old os completely and have the right stock os ready to adb flash. Id say google ATHENE_MPJ24.139-49_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml .. then put it in your minimal adb and fastboot file. go to bootloader and then back to computer to do the shift right click in the file on pc and get terminal up and copy and paste this
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash logo logo.bin

fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase customize
fastboot erase clogo
fastboot oem fb_mode_clear
fastboot reboot
Fastboot flash logo logo.bin
The fastboot restart the device and you should be back with the wifi and data. I bought a new phone in feb or march because of this issue and couldn't find a fix till I googled constantly.
I had to delete the os completely and then flash the factory boot image with

What are the proper steps to completely remove your entire OS safely? Do you mean to just overwrite the current one?
This procedure overwrites your current or completely. You will lose the contents of the internal SD card

Save what you want and it should be safe to just completely wipe your phone cache and all no overwrite.. Then have the stock ready to flash in the file on computer and do the the above steps. Ive done it on both my moto g4's because on my main one which I'm sending off to Motorola for screen repairs, I wiped my phone without thinking about the stock os. panicked but remembered the back to stock steps and attempted them. Ive always gotten errors or wifi and data wipe from over writing with the codes. So I just flashed on the one I deleted OS off of and it worked.

Yeah sadly you will lose everything unless you have it all saved. I was mad about losing a lot of things but I was having screen issues and data wifi issues to try to fix. I do have data and wifi now. I just wish I saved what I could.
Would the android data recovery program recover anything? Ive been searching how to recover wiped data. Internet is full of info on how wiped data can be recovered. I just want the text messages and stuff. I had important things in some the text messages I lost
You should save to the external SD card.

Delete the old OS via twrp?
You should have made a backup with twrp. Then you could restore your os as it was.

Nope the firmware linked above caused the phone to go in to a boot loop.

Yeah that's what I did. Then I flashed the stock rom I googled. Ive been trying to update to nougat for past 2 days since I got back to proper stock rom.
you can;t flash any of the official firmwares via TWRP. You can flash a custom rom or restore a backup of your OS though.
to flash/reload an official firmware, you need ADB and fastboot running from a computer.
Exactly. Don't try with TWRP.
