Is there an adblocking app that does actually work good? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Tried AdBlock Plus a couple of times but it just doesn't block that many ads, if any at all.
Can someone recommend one that does block ads and is easy to set up?
Thanks!

I have tried AdAway with pretty awesome results, blocking even ads within apps. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190753 but you must be rooted to install it

+1 for Adaway

[Q] Adfree does not block Browser Ads on Rooted S5 like other phones

This is strange all previous Samsung phones such as S2, S3, Note 2, 3 ads were blocked fine with Adfree.
Why S5 still shows ads??

There is something wrong with your settings or so.
Have a look in settings to automatically update.
Verify launch killer.
Mine is working everyday since a few.
Edit
Which version have you?
Install 2.9.
Had same pb on 2.9.1 on other phone.
Best regards
Franky
Maybe you have the "Compression Data Option" activated on chrome, which disables AdBlocking

Samsung is today adding support for content and ad blocking plugins to the web browser preinstalled on its Android phones. The first blocker available for Samsung Internet is Adblock Fast, which claims to decrease load times on Android by an average of 51 percent.
I already discussed here about this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65085181&postcount=6

I sure miss.....

Ad away
What do you miss?
Xposed... Custom recovery... Freedom... Adaway for sure... Roms... All kinds of stuff I can't think of lol.
Debbie, Pam , Michelle ....the list is long
My hair... being able to see my feet... oh, and definitely Adaway. :crying:
I never rooted my s5 so I'm actually ok.
Adaway, bbs, greenify

This!
Really though, I just miss Root in general. Can't block ads, can't freeze apps, automaiteit/tasker is crippled, on and on. It's as if everything that made Android good or customizable is now disabled. I'm really looking forward to seeing how Nexus 6 compares with the Note 4, because if I'm so locked down, I might as well use an iPhone.
It's like having a 600 horsepower engine with a speed limiter on it.
Root explorer!
xposed
adaway
viper
I just want to hold volume down at lock for quick flashlight ffs!
I miss a couple things, the SD card fix is one but the number one is be able to uninstall the current version of Google Maps and replace it with an older version, specifically version 6, which is immensely better IMO than their current version.
Adaway, hands down

I know this is good only on your home network, but I run DD-WRT on my router and have adaway running on that so my whole network is ad free [emoji1]
Adaway. G3 tweak box, xp0sed, 4x5 and 5x5 touchwiz.
ad away xposed titty-backup sd-card write. long list
I picked up my s4 the other day, seemed like phone had shrank
but does missing root out weigh the Note4....All I can say is I love my Note
dam sure can't wait to have root.

Here is the play store link for many ad blockers which don't require root:

They are all free....
Try them all and see which suits your needs the best!
Good luck and have a great day!

Mean for chrome browser, a addblocker
For the Samsung browser. The stock browser. Don't use chrome, it performs worse than stock.

You can use the stock samsung internet browser and use this adblock with it
Work 100%

You do not have to use chrome.. Samsung stock browser is faster and uses less system resources

The best is adhell 3.
Vpn does not use, so it is not going to drain the battery works for knox and no root

I use adguard since note 4
Adguard. Been using it since the Note 4. Have a lifetime license. They have sales every now and then where it costs about 2 years' annual fees (or less). Totally worth it. App is constantly updated and safe to use.
I use the DNS66 route. You get stuck with a permanent notification, but worth it IMHO.
I use Blokada. It works, it doesn't add any noticable battery drain, and it is easy to use.

This is not true, you can hide the notification icons.
Does these apps block in-game ads too?
I use netguard and uploaded moab host file to it. Works perfect for me and I can prevent apps from going out to the internet.

Most apps, including YouTube, have built in ad serving code. You will have to be rooted or use a VPN to usually block those type of ads. However, you can block YouTube ads if you view YouTube through your browser and not through the YouTube app.

Rooted OnePlus 6T Questions

Hey there, I recently switched from Google Pixel 2 XL to a OnePlus 6T with Verizon. I want to say I am impressed by the OnePlus 6t.
I recently rooted my device and was wondering if anyone else has well. I am new to Magisk and have some questions about it
I know about YouTube Vanced, but is there any other adblock module for the internet and general adblocking capabilities like ublock origins?
I want to use a dark browser and an adblock browser and the only web browser that allows that is firefox, yet firefox pales in comparsion to chrome.
any other tips and tricks for using magisk and a rooted oneplus 6t. I have not been on root for two years.
Thanks!

AdAway will block ads system wide on a root device.
I've been using Kiwi browser (Chromium) and liking it so far. It has ad block built in as well as night mode. Also has the option to move the address bar to the bottom, which is super helpful for one handed use.

You can root and keep using the stock rom yes, even with TWRP and Magisk. The only rom with fully working fp scanner is the stock one.

You cannot install Adaway through Magisk. And you don't need to install Fdroid. You can just download the APK. But before you do so make sure to install the systemless hosts Magisk module.
