I have just installed aurora light rom yesterday, and today I found that I can not move any app to my internal "sdcard".
Inside CWM recovery, if I choose "choose zip from internal sdcard", I can see the internal card without problem.
If I use ES explorer, inside the folder: "mnt" I can see two other folders: "sdcard1" and "sdcard". "sdcard" is empty and "sdcard1" has my backups, and other files.
If I go into Storage, I can not see the options of the "sdcard", but I can see that I have almost 2GB for an USB storage.
So, what should I do to have be able to use my internal "sdcard" again?

You can't move any apps to internal sdcard without repartitioning that. Actually you aren't even then moving apps to it, you just take some space from it and put that space to data partition.

P.s. Do nandroid backup before repartitioning, you might need it
(It can factory reset your phone and hide your statusbar, if that happens just restore backup and you are good to go)

Do you mean internal sdcard? If so phone doesn't use that memory at all. It's basically like your external sdcard except you can't move apps to it. You can use it for documents, photos, backups etc.

So, it is save to partition that memory to have more space for applications? And why almost all phones just reserve only so little space if has all that space there?

Yes, if you want you can even take all space from internal sdcard to data partition.
It's unusual to have internal storage, external sdcard and internal sdcard like in our U8800. Most of the phones don't have internal sdcard.

I've had my SGS 4 (I9500) for about 10 days, and have some problems (not critical but anoying), I don't know if they are related.
1) I use a microSD of 64 GB, the same I was using in my previous SGS 3 without any problem. In the SGS 4, sometimes the microSD is reported as damaged (even at boot, or during usage). It has happend several times, and fixed with a reboot. When this happends, the microSD can't be readed by the file explorer (neither ES explorer or Solid Explorer). I have formatted the microSD with the SGS 4, but didn't help.
2) I can't mount, format neither backup on the microSD from Recovery, even using Recovery that claim "backup / restore folders fixed". I need to backup on external SD in order to free the little space available on the internal SD!!
3) I can't find the folder where the backups made from Recovery are! Recovery says the path is sdcard/clockworkmod/backup, but I browse to that path in Solid Explorer, and it only has one file: .recovery_version. (I have activated the option "show hidden files"). I need to find these folders for at least move/copy the backup files to my PC, if I can't store them on the external SD.
At the beginning, I thought it was a generic problem of the SGS 4 that would be fixed with custom kernels or ROMs, but so far nothing has helped!
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

use dd command to backup efs and you must also backup m9kefs partitions

i think you backuped efs partition with recovery, that is fine.
NV_DATA must be secured also, they are included in other partition, they are not included in efs partition so make a backup for them see this.

Solution to Recovery access to external SD
As I thought, the issue with the Recovery access to external SD was solved with a new version of Recovery. The Cofface Recovery V 2.0 made the magic! :victory:
I thought this would solve the issues with the esternal SD in general, but I keep having the error "SD is damaged", and when I try to mount it, it is detected as empty. I let the phone alone, and some minutes later the SD card is detected and mounted itself. :silly:
I hope this to be a release problem, and be eventually solved with new versions of kernels or ROMs. :fingers-crossed:

Am sorry for hijacking your thread OP, but am having the same problem as you had cant seem to find that backup folder, I want to transfer it to my pc to save some memory, when I saw this reply "data/media/clockworkmod" I was so happy but when I went no luck whatsoever I get "data/com.mdc.ustv (that's it) and I can find "media/audio/notification" .
whenever I do go to restore in recovery mode it does show directory sdcard/clockworkmod/backup
any help would be greatly appreciated

I found the clockworkmod backup in the described path. Are you reaching the memory root?
The sound/norifications folder is in system/media path.

correct path for deleting cwm backup files
... thanks, with your help I was finally able to delete my unneeded image.zip backup file that was not recognized by the recovery / mod manager clean up tool. Some other posts suggested to reach it under /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup which is basically correct for accessing it, but even with root permission you are never allowed to delete it there (symlinks?). However, /data/media/clockworkmod was finally the correct path to physically remove it :victory:

I've a 900V CID11 bootloader locked, unrooted, I installed MM 6.0.1 by safestrap.
MY phone is 16GB but it looks I've really small space for apps, someone can kindly describe me how the storage is allocated?
As I guess reading around, the safestrap eat me 2,5gb for some reason, then there is the rom space, then the "sdcard" folder for data. On sdcard I still have 500MB available but I think the phone doesn't want to use them for installing apps. I've 32GB SD but it looks also that with uroot phone I can't move apps there.
Any way to expand the space for installing apps? Any way to repartition the space? Use the 2,5gb of safestrap? Maybe repeat the procedure using flashfire?
By now I've a serious limitation. Thank you for help

Android partize the internal memory,
2) why data wipe is not wiping the /sdcard folder (I'm speaking about intenal memory),
3) if there exist a ROM partition and if it the same of "System" or two different
4) if it is possible to edit files inside System and ROM with root permissions
5) if System has a rigid partition size, or depends on the quantity of internal, and which criteria is used to assign the space.
6) If gapps are all stored in System
7) Where the 3rd party apps are stored
8) Where folder data is located, and it's not /sdcard folder.
9) if safestrap eats 2,5GB of space and hide it from a file explorer.
10 ) if it's possible to reduce safestrap partiton
11) if the space used from safestrap reduces directly the "system" partition, or even "data" and "/sdcard"
12) if it's possible to edit the partitions size, for example I've a big SD card and I sould like to use the internal memory almost for installing apps.

Yes please, I would know how Android works with the storage, I think there are some hidden partitions that I can't see with xplore, containing ROM.
Xplore tells I've 11GB internal memory (and the phone has 16, where are othere 4/5?)
And also tells that:
root total amount is 2,47 GB, free 16%of 11GB=1,7GB
Internal storage (SD card folder)= 1,44GB, , free 16%of 11GB=1,7GB
2,47+1,44+1,7=5,61, where are other 5GB to make 11GB?
I think I lost somewhee 9 GB!

What you are saying sounds about right with safestrap and rom slots. And 16gb just isn't all that much space to work with.
Root Essentials will allocate your sd card for you. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.superthomaslab.rootessentials
Also, with safestrap...are you using the main rom slot to boot into? if not, you should, then delete the other rom slots, that will free up a ton of space. plus if i were you, i would get rid of safestrap and flash TWRP on your phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...t/rd-unlocking-galaxys-s5-bootloader-t3337909

Let's proceed by order, ok about the real 14,6GB, but does the ROM shows itself in xplore in the root folder? I think it should.. like I can see C:\ on the windows OS with all the system files. Or does Android hide the ROM files?
I agree about Safestrap caused it, I used it to mount the Android 6, I unfortunately have a CID11 S5 and I can't have it rooted, how can I recover the Safestrap wasted space? I think I'm using only the main ROM, I followed the procedure to root Lollipop and upgrade with Safestrap to MM.

Does anyone know of a method to force the J5 phone to use the SD Card for cache files without rooting?
I've only had the phone a week and already internal memory is getting very low. I thought if cached data could automatically go onto the SD Card I would gain a bit of space. Having looked at the threads regarding rooting the J5 I think I want to take more time to understand the process rather than a leap in the dark.

You can access your storage and execute clean cache to wipe out all these unwanted files in a few seconds. It is in the settings menu.
Cache; whether stored in your phone memory or SDcards would eventually eat-up your storage and eitherway, not a good thing IMHO.

Hello guys! Cache partition is only 200MB on our device, so it is not the issue here. You must move your applications to SD, but you will experience some lags, due to I/O speed limitations.
Furthermore, if we move cache to SD, more lags will happen.
Can be used an init.d which clear cache automatically, or use Tasker app to clear cache whenever you want (I prefer Tasker).

It can be done with some terminal command, can't remember it right now, but can be found on Google. Is easier this way and isn't necessary to reboot the phone.

Thanks for all your replies. I've been clearing cache and generally getting rid of junk but the internal memory was almost 95% used nonetheless. No programs were able to update and taking a photo meant having to delete another.
So bit the bullet and after more investigation rooted the phone today. Tomorrow I shall partition the sd card so that some of it (the majority) can act as internal memory. <rant>Don't understand why Android (Google) have such limitations in their op system. More and more apps are available and they get larger and larger so more and more memory is needed. Currently memory is as cheap as chips, so why limit how and where it is used?</rant>
