You Need to Know about Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge - Galaxy S6 Edge General

Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge finally discard the sleazy plastic build, appearing with an attractive fusion of sharp metal lines and plenty of glass design. And the S6 Edge competes for the flashpoint with two curved screens. The new phone pair makes a stir with new features, which would push Samsung to regain the top spot in global smartphones war, or, ill reverse the sagging sales?
How good is the new Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge?
Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge quite meets users who pursue premium design and specs.
New metal and glass dress. The new phones run away from plastic construction adopted by the past 5-generation flagship smartphone. The upscale metals and glass would definitely be more exquisite and solid.
Android 5.0 and 5.1-inch screen. Both of them feature Android 5.0 Lollipop which brings genuine 64-bit architecture to sharply accelerate the start-up speeds of system and applications. And the 5.1-inch screen is much larger than iPhone 6 yet fits in a much higher resolution (2,560x1,440 pixels, a density of 577 ppi).
Wireless Charging. S6 and S6 Edge deliver built-in wireless charging support to provide a more convenient phone charging mode. What’s more, the1.5X faster charging speed assuages the concern of battery fully.
Upgraded fingerprint scanning. Samsung has already put fingerprint scanner on several devices, however, the one for S6/S6 Edge is greater. It is a touch-based variant instead of erratic slide to protect personal information more effectively.
Camera launch quickly. The same home button now is featured with double-click to launch the camera in less than 1 second. Won’t miss any important time. And the front and rear cameras support higher resolutions and f/1.9.
How bad is the new Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge?
Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge sacrifices what made the previous ones be different and capable in various smartphones combats.
Removable battery has gone. Samsung Galaxy S6 /S6 Edge is sealed completely so that the battery can not be drawn out any more, not to mention replacement. At the same time, it reflects one more problem that how to keep the phone without power source and battery charger momentarily. The battery of S6 is 2,550mAh, and S6 Edge gets a more capacity at 2,660mAh, which are obviously enough to shore up the 5.1-inch displays.
Waterproofing is lost. Samsung Galaxy S5 was waterproof up to IP67 standard. However, the S6 or S6 Edge is no longer waterproof now. Don’t image that it still doesn’t matter to have a dunk in the toilet. Just keep it dry.
External Micro-SD slot is dropped. Samsung offers S6/S6 Edge users 32, 64 or 128GB of storage with no any SD card supported. Users in the past could load videos, audios, photos, books and other files on card to avoid taking up the limited Internal storage, and which is more easily and quickly to transfer such files to other devices.
Which is you more inclined to stand for? Or if you have any other views, welcome to take part in our discussion to reveal much more comprehensive information of 2015 Samsung new flagship smartphone- Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge.

[Q] Do you believe that Samsung is panicking?

http://androidcommunity.com/galaxy-...is-at-samsung-according-to-employee-20130709/
I ran across this earlier today and it seems like something Samsung would never think about doing. Do you think they would consider doing this? Wouldn't it make it harder for Samsung to achieve a good brand recognition and send Samsung back to where they were before the Galaxy S3 came out (when no one really knew what a Samsung phone looked like)? Would you buy a Samsung phone if they did this?
It's the carriers. I see almost no advertisements by them. Best example was when the phone first came out, I saw nothing by AT&T. I walked in and it seemed like it wasn't even launch day.
Selling a bunch of other models would be a bad choice in my opinion. Improving the build of their one flagship device might make a difference. I for one would like a strong mid-body that wont flex (lets make the phone a bit thicker, please). Perhaps a metal band around the phone (or at least nearby the glass, I already scuffed up the front plastic ring).
What I don't want is something like the GS4 Active, great concept that will work for some, but ugly and not simple.
If they can make their devices even more physically appealing and have the carriers push them more, they'll sell more. This phone is too much like the GS3 that is running for zero down.... or so it seems to most of the population, one that doesn't know what a Full HD Super AMOLED versus an HD Super AMOLED. One that sees the two and find the slightly smaller and lesser as a better buy.
Just my 2 cents.
my GF and i were discussing this earlier. from a marketing standpoint, we can see 3 variants working best (psychology and marketing background on her part), like the S4 active, S4 zoom, and S4 mini. i would actually roll the S4 into the Active, and make that the standard model. Turn the S4 mini into a 4.3" 720P with less sensors and detuned processor with 1.5GB of RAM and 8/16GB storage, apply the S4 mini specs to the S4 zoom, and then I would can the 'active' label, and make the IP67 rating standard on the 'flagship' model, throw in the missing sensors from the S4 proper, and there you have a more ideal lineup.
So basically...
S5 mini 720P with lower proc, ram, and storage aimed at women and sell it for $50 less
S5 Zoom with above stated specs for same as 'S5' price
S5 with max stats and IP67 rating.
AMOLED screens CAN be secured against water damage to IP67 specs.

Swapped my S6 Edge for an S6

So I got the S6 Edge the moment it came out
(Actually arrived two days before its official release date in Ireland)
its the first Galaxy I've owned since the S2
(Might be controversial, but I hated the S3,4 & 5 due to over plasticy feel and rubbish TouchWiz interface)
So getting the Edge....I was very very impressed with the speed of the phone, the camera, the battery life......very good
Except I quickly felt the 'Edge' is just a total gimmick.
Style wise its really nice...but none of the Edge features were useful in anyway to me. I also didn't need the 64GB of storage as I never put music on it.
But instead of moving onto another phone model (which I have a massive tendancy to do) I decided to swap for the S6(+cash) And I am still really happy with the phone.
I dont miss the Edge at all.
Any of you guys feel the same?
yes same with me I initially went to buy the edge but ended buying plain S6, it's just a gimmick with the edge.
I heavily contemplated the edge when it came out. After playing with both in store and factoring in the price difference, I went with the s6 and haven't regretted it one bit - in fact, I'm very happy with my decision.
Edge is real real amazing design but badly I need dual sims so only regular S6 to me, this is the main reason.
The Edge screen is also smaller in reality bcoz of the curve on both sides, that meant when you surfing the web only got around 4.7" ~ 4.8" reading size which is another unacceptable reason to me. Not to mention the Edge screen is always darker and will consume more battery at the same brightness level and the battery is already not enough.....
There are just too many disadvantages other than the price, so I go for normal one. I still very like the edge until now but real no way.
To be honest...that was also one of the reasons was the slight loss of actual screenspace
Theverge said it best, go in store and look at the Galaxy s6 edge, enjoy its beauty, then get the regular S6

Yes. I purchased the Edge kept it a few days then found it to be a waste of the extra cash so returned it for the S6 and am a happy camper. The Edge is stunningly good looking but truly over priced. The 32Gb versions are 150.00€ difference in price. I could not justify that.
The S6 is vastly outselling the Edge per unit. I ponder what Samsung make of that?
Ryland
they have been advertising the Edge a ton on TV around here, the format to me doesn't make any real sense. Never even considered it.
Absolutely, the S6 edge"s" makes the phone look narrow and you lose screen real estate. Awful gimmick. Regular S6 is gorgeous for me.
The Edge is stunningly good looking but truly over priced.
I couldn't stand the light reflections on the edge screen when watching youtube videos.

Well i picked up white S6 after couple of weeks of launch and then i played with both edge and regular and just felt that edge was too expensive. Also thought S6 felt better after a month or so i was regretting of not getting the edge but it seems that not many useful features have been added to it so now i feel better for going with the regular. I do feel it was too expensive to begin with.
I was dead set on getting the edge until I held one in a store. I opted for the standard S6. I felt the edge was slippery to hold, looked thinner, had light reflection. Prefer the feel and look of the standard S6.
I would have probably picked the regular S6 even at the same price. With the Edge being so much more expensive, for me getting the S6 was such an easy decision.
just so u didnt know, edge is far more durable than a regular s6.
look around youtube, s6 edge vs s6 drop test
Yeah, right. All you need is a proper case for your S6. You can find excellent choice of good cases for just 15$.
i got the normal s6 over the edge and must say more than happy with it

Anyone dropping their phone is putting their phone in the lap of the gods. A normal drop from head height shouldn't be bothering the S6 or the Edge though, barring scratches.
The main problem I had with the Edge is the grip. The sides are so thin that the phone doesn't feel good in hand.
I ended up buying a 920F without any carrier subsidy like I've done with all my previous phones, and the price for an international Edge was just ridiculous. I couldn't bring myself to shell out that much for a depreciating asset. Anyways I'm happy with my normal s6, I did think the Edge screen made it look smaller and like others didn't like how it felt in the hand. Kinda important for something that you're holding all day every day.

S7 Edge and Gear VR - FOV and light leak?

I would love to hear an in depth review of the S7 Edge with the consumer Gear VR. I currently have Note 4 and had the innovator edition last year but sold it on after a few months. I've the S7 Edge on pre-order and was excited about getting the consumer version bundled with it. I was in a Samsung store today and tried the consumer version they had on display with an S6 attached and I was left a little underwhelmed. It's going back almost a year since I had the Note 4 innovator and despite my delight at being able to wear my glasses with the new version the FOV certainly seemed reduced and I could detect the edge on the periphery. But it was nothing major though, especially as I'm essentially getting it free of charge.
What I would really like to know though is there much of a trade off with the S7 Edge. I was so torn between getting the standard S7 or the Edge and decided to go with the Edge for the larger screen/battery but if it is significantly inferior to the standard S7 I can change my order. I was reading that John Cormack mentioned on Twitter that the standard S7 would be sharper with less FOV but that the Edge would also possibly bleed light and make it uncomfortable. He later apparently retracted the statement and stated he was thinking of the S6 and not the S7 however other forums don't take him at his word and believe the retraction may have been to do with bolstering the S7 sales. Personally I would rather just hear an honest review from someone that has it in their hands, I've been scouring Youtube and Google but all I ever find are mind numbing unboxing videos and no testing commentary.
If anyone on here has it I would be so grateful for an opinion.

A quad HD display? My Note Edge is pushing 2-years old and it already has that. How disappointing for a flagship.

Srsly what would you need a higher res screen for? So your battery can drain in 1 hour? best upgrade i'd hope for is expanded Edge functional edge features, better front and rear cameras (with flash for front since I am black and dark as hell) and a big ass battery. Everything else is good.

What's your point?
Quad hd is fine that's why it's the standard. Nothing is really adapted for 4k yet.
NOTE 7

Note 7 Couple confirmed specs: 5.7" QHD SAMOLED, 64GB + microSD, 12MP DualP / 5MP, IP68, black/silver/blue
Hmm...gain a slightly better rear camera (Never use front camera) ,an Iris Scanner , faster processor, slightly bigger battery......Lose IR blaster, replaceable battery, edge functionality.
Guess i'm keeping my Note Edge for another year Lets see what the Note 8 Edge brings...

I really hope this one actually does have proper Edge functionality. Is it confirmed that its gonna be just like the dumb S7 edge? except with a pen?
And what is up with Samsung ditching IR blasters left and right? Do they not know how useful it is?
I hope that the Note 7 has a bigger screen than 5.7. Having curved edges on both sides is going to take away usable space for writing with the stylus. If Samsung keeps same length to width ratio, I'd just prefer the screen to be flat. Most of the edge stuff seems like a gimmick to me anyway. Many of the edge apps could be usable on a flat screen and don't depend so much on the curvature of a screen.

Note for me. Totally use every aspect of my Edge display on the Note Edge. I do hope more apps start using the Edge screen. Poweramp and Samsung native apps like S Note utilize the curve very wisely. I tried using power amp on my other flat screen phone and it was actually painful not having the extra UI on the edge screen

Glad you find it useful and I can see how some things can be done nicely and take advantage of the curve for controlling or operating apps with the right hand. But in general, I think that most of the things one could do are possible on a flat strip on the side edge. Maybe not quite as ergonomically as with a curved screen. But I prefer having the space dedicated for full screen use. I wish the edge feature could just be used as needed, then be completely retracted, and not take up screen space all the time. Btw, tiny burgers and the memory game was nice!
I don't think the use of S pen will be ergonomic with the edges. I'm also disappointed, I was really hoping for a 4K Display, QHD is very good already but well ...
IR blaster is a must
Removable battery is a must
Functional edge is a must
Bigger screen is a must
Samsung - are u listening?
Note 4/note edge was the best iteration in series. If it had note 5 deisgn with ir blaster, SD card and removable battery, you would never need to upgrade lol. We can stay on note 4 for like 2 more years with the specs it has/ custom kernel, rom or whatever. I'm actually looking forward to the note 7 because it should be a decent upgrade from what I've seen so far plus I'll always have my note edge as a back up phone in case I do get the note 7
Finally announced! !!
So does it have an Infra red sensor ( to use as remote) and a removable battery?

Sensor Type

Accelerometer, Barometer, Fingerprint Sensor, Gyro Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor, Hall Sensor, HR Sensor, Iris Sensor, Proximity Sensor, RGB Light Sensor
Went to Best Buy to look at the Note 7, They are almost identical to the Galaxy S7 edge. The main difference is a slightly bigger screen (5.7 instead of 5.5) and the s pen. The curved edge is nothing like the one on the Note Edge and is just a design element, not useful in anyway, exactly like the one on the Galaxy S. If my Note Edge wasn't almost 2 years old I wouldn't even consider the new Note. I am really going to miss the edge functionality.
