[Q] Metal Umi Zero Alternative - UMi ZERO Questions & Answers

My friend wants a phone at a similar price with a good metal design. As long as the specs are decent, like Moto g level, the design is more important.

Buy Samsung Galaxy S6

ZTE Nubia Z9 Mini can do the job, and Iocean X7 as well, they both are beautiful, stylish and specs wise equal to Umi Zero, Gionee Elife S7 is also an option, but a bit expensive, and Lenovo Vibe Shot,

I wish...

[Q] Should I get the Xperia SP against the Moto G ?

Hi !
I have an Xperia S which is dead now :crying: and am looking for a new phone at the moment.
Originally, I was looking at the Moto G 16gb but its got a very bad camera and lack of upgradable storage. So, I'm wondering whether the SP have a good camera or not !
BTW, what about the 4.4 availability ?
Is there any stable 4.4 custom ROM for SP ?
Sp is a good phone. Has a great camera. And feels premium to hold. In fact when my friend got it, I liked it so much that I sold my Galaxy s4 and bought an xperia z. Hope this helps.
Plus Sony makes camera modules for a lot of other manufacturers like Apple iPhones. Samsung galaxy series. So u almost always get a. Good camera with a mid range and higher sony phones

Yeah but I read a review saying that the 8 mp camera of the Xperia SP is very poor compared to that of the Xperia L.
I work in a machine design company and I have to take a lot of photos and videos of our products for making quick demos and filing the records. That implies I need a decent camera phone.
The Xperia S and the Samsung Wave I had were good performers in that regard.
I would be checking out the Xperia SP and the Galaxy S4 Mini and may be some LG phones today at this new shopping mall that opened in my city. If I'm not happy, I'll be going for the Moto G.
Its gonna be a good night
For the price you'd be hard pushed to beat the Moto G -- at only £120 sim free for the 8GB model it's an absolute bargain, but it's also a solid performer and has already been updated to 4.4.
Honestly speaking, you'd have to be getting a very good deal to make buying an Xperia SP now a good choice as it's already a year old and even at best would only be officially supported for another six months, which means that bug fixes and other software updates will dry up soon.

if you need a good camera, why not go for the Z1 or Z1 compact?
Xperia SP's camera is a huge disappointment, if that's a big thing for you, looks elsewhere. I read that GS4 mini's camera is pretty good (though, it's only 5mpx, if I recall). Where XSP shines is in it's processing power, since it has a decent processor and Adreno 320 GPU, which GS4 mini lacks. However, the lack of KitKat and 1GB of RAM make the Xperia SP hard to recommend.
You should also check Xperia ZR, where I live, it is just $10-$15dls more expensive than Xperia SP. xperia ZR is water-proof and has a 13MPX with a Quad-Core processor.
Xperia Sp camera its no so good. It you want a good camera phone buy a lumia 920/925 or a Galaxy s3 it you want android.

I'm from India and I'm getting the Xperia SP for ~300 USD (18000 INR) and yeah the Moto G 16 GB is available here for ~233 USD.
As for updates, I don't care as long as there is custom ROMs available.

After dropping the ZR from my list, I thought about getting the S3 but I hear its battery backup is not that great and yeah, I hate the rounded design Samsung uses. I think their Bada phones look much much better.
BTW, there are some rumers about the Xperia M2 and Xperia G being priced really low to compete with the Moto G. I wonder how low Sony would go in pricing them !
Xperia SP's camera is so pathetic that I am sure Moto G's pics will be much better than SP's. The reason I bought SP is its processing power and awesome design.

Is it that bad ?
BTW, if mediatek guys were a bit more "open", the Huawei Ascend g700 would have been a great buy for me....great camera, lots of RAM, good IPS Lcd display etc. But,AFAIK, there is no custom ROMs or any other development for that phone because there is minimal support from mediatek for custom android development projects
You are concerned about SP camera but not about moto G camera? Haha. My friend has moto G, ant trust me, if you need (seems like that's your main priority) decent camera dont eve think about moto G. I have chosen SP over moto G and they both are about the same price.
Yet if you have doubts about SP camera, you can look into S3/S4mini (I considered those as options for me, but SP in overall seemed a better choice) or lumia 920 (I also considered this, but I need option too record my calls and WPs cant offer this yet L920 camera is amazing and I would assume price would be similar if its still available in sale).

I thought Moto G's camera was betther than SP's
The problem with Samsung is that their designs look so awful to me. Sony and HTC are much much better.
I'm an Opera Mini/Mobile/Desktop addict, can't use any other browser (lots of bookmarks and notes in the Opera in my account) and sadly, that rules WP devices like 920.
My options currently:
1. Blackberry Z10. If it has an android ROM, I would be going for this one but there isn't any AFAIK.
2. Upcoming Xperia G
3. Xperia SP
4. Xperia ZR
5. Samsung GS4 Mini
6. Samsung GS3
trust me

Good to know that we are on the same track about Samesong. I hate them.
Z10 was an option for me too, but it was too little hardware for the the price for me, so I left it out yet it seems to work flawlessly in youtube videos. Also it is very sexy device and since 10.2.1 OS update it supports .apk files so basically its an android with Blackberry stuff. Why would you need a ROM for Z10? Just for sake of flashing something or there is serious reason?
Xperia G seems ok. Is it known when it will be available? Are you ready to wait (and possibly wait to find out if you would afford it when its released)?

If your deciding factor is based the camera, I suggest you check this out:
http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=3&idPhone1=5831&idPhone2=5364
As you can see, the SP may have a bigger pixel count but the image is over processed and has a lot of chromatic noise. If you need to zoom into a picture to look at small text, it may not be an ideal phone for you.
However, as an overall package (build quality, performance, battery life) it's probably the best phone in its price range.

Yes, I love the launchers for the Android and the look and feel of different ROMS like MIUI, CM etc. Its so amazing. I don't think the BB10 would support that much of customization
I'm waiting for the Xperia G..hope that I can afford it.

The Moto G and the SP look so awful, doesn't it ? Samsung S4 mini's pic look really nice and detailed even matching the iPhone 5.
@x.marX
Go get Moto X.
Period.
I don't know where you reside , but if you have got access to Moto Maker , get a customized Moto X. The camera and the processioning power is alot better than Xperia SP. But Xperia SP's design is far better than its competitors.
But since Xperia SP is getting old, I think Moto X would be a better choice regarding the future updates , camera and performance.

We have Moto X here but the full fledged Moto Maker won't be ready any time soon.
I'm not a big fan of Moto X btw.
1. "Rounded design" - not my cup of tea
2. Memory not expandable - I have a lot of FLAC audio files
3. Non-removable battery
Only advantage of SP over G is the memocard and LTE.
If you can live without them get MotoG/16GB and you'll be OK.
I changed from Moto G to SP, but regret it...

I am a major fan of the flag ship Xperia mobiles. My last Samsung purchase was the Note 3 and I was so peeved at the plastic metal and plastic leather, hell I don't know why they didn't use cling film for a screen. No way was I ever going to purchase Samsung again. Sony produce superbly crafted mobiles from quality materials and they feel superb in the hand as do Apple also HTC.
Comes the Samsung Galaxy S6 rang and I have bought the S6Edge then returned it for the S6 and now have the Edge+ As well as the S6. Top line specifications and micro engineered (at long last) like a Swiss watch and, I may add, for the price they bloomin well should be.
To the best of my knowledge the Z5 range are not yet released so can't pass comment. I would 'guess' it will be a superb mobile that will stand side by side with the S6 line and iPhone 6S. As I write this, flag ship models from HTC, Sony, iPhone and Samsung are all very VERY well specified and engineered. A major part of your choice will be the OS and aesthetics. 'The best' will be a relative term and in reality doesn't exist.
Ryland
I hate any tft displays (amoled lover) beside that sony is a nice phone.
Samsung has root but no custom rom. Sony Z5 premium has neither. SD 810 has heating issues as far as I know.
both has ups and downs with me so i can't rly choose btween it from the specs and reviews
s6 edge+ down points:
battery only 3Ah (then again it should be on par with sony i think bcuz it has led instead tft with led backlight, though i always carry an portable charger with me so it should do the trick)
display not 4k for an 5.7" screen
no microsd card
only 25gb of 32gb usabel internal storage (no clue why they use 7gb for other ****)
slower gpu vs snapdragon phones (from benchmarks)
s6 edge+ up points:
led screen (witch i love bcuz it shows true black and white and it doesn' t break as fast as tft)
large 5.7" display
wireless charge
nice design
fast cpu/ram (from benchmarks) and less heating
4gb RAM
sony experia z5 premium down points:
the cpu heating as mentioned
why only 3gb ram ?
no snapdragon 820 (witch could be beter for this phone bcuz 4k screen)
tft screen witch can't perform true black images
4k on an 5.5" and only for movies and pictures -.-
sony experia z5 premium up points:
4k screen (altough for movie and pictures only)
2 days with no charging (yeah sure only the 1st 2 charges)
micros sd upto 200gb
nice design
water and dustproof (don't try it to trow it in the water or it breaks)
good audio (well i assume it still has since the walkmen phones)
faster GPU then samsungs (from benchmarks)
more ppi then samsung
beter battery then samsungs
all this is kinda , if i could merge the phones together make 1 good phone from it
i think i go for samsung since it has 75 euro cashback now also i loved the galaxy s3
i don't know how sony experia z5 premium is but the specs don't realy fit together, specialy the 4k screen and 3gb ram , the screen is kinda worthless for daily stuff untill you view pics or watch movies
as for samsung, im struggeling bcuz of the gpu performance, no sd card, weaker battery, but can use an otg if need but that is all extra work and power drain
hi
You should think more about the experience when you hold the s6 edge+ with the z5 premium. Before edge+ i had a xperia z3, the only thing i miss is that the battery life from sony devices. Moreover, xperia z series run almost original android so you have nothing to play, but the edge plus does. So my oppinion is the edge plus. Sorry for my pour english.

Need suggestion Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge or LG G5 ???

Hi,
With launch of Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge several companies launched their flagship devices, such as Sony Xperia X , HTC One M10, Xiaomi Mi 5, LG G5 etc...
I'm about the change my phone and need some help to choose between Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge & LG G5 .
Here LG G5 seems have better specs but Galaxy S7 Edge is more popular device.
Need some suggestion from the geeks
Thanks.
Firstly, I chose the galaxy s7 edge so take my opinion however you feel. That disclaimer aside, I think it boils down to personal preference on features.
S7 edge
-Superior Camera (fact, LG is trying but Samsung is beating Apple at their own game)
-Superior Screen (fact, led is king LG knows that and still insists on LCD, look at the TV game)
-Superior DAC (fact, audio processing on s7 is top notch and LG is just now learning that matters. )
-Superior Design (personal preference)
Those are my four main features. Processors are all a dime a dozen now (Snapdragon 820 aka latest), RAM is over abundant (who needs 4gb lol but I'll take it), memory card slot, fast charging, wireless (LG doesn't have), etc.
The point is that you gotta figure out why you buy phones. Maybe wireless charging doesn't matter to you. Maybe removable battery is super important to you. Maybe you like LCD over LED. Maybe the LG OS had features you like. The point is they are both great, it's you who makes "one better than the other".
Take this with a grain of salt. But The Verge always gets accused of Apple bias. This year they rated the s7 edge higher than the iPhone for design, quality, speed, etc. It's an amazing phone. I don't regret my purchase. But as you can see I've had quite a few Samsung phones. Maybe the LG G2x scared me too deep (for anyone who understands that reference you win 25 Internet points today)! Good luck and I hope you pick your best phone.

Hard decision: G6 or SGS8

Hey guys,
so the title speaks for itself - I'm in the market for a new phone (tired of OP3 - it's pretty boring) and my top contenders are LG G6 and SGS8. My concerns:
LG G6:
-SD821 with adreno 530: Is that enough to push the most graphically demanding games to QHD as well as glide through UI flawlessly?
-App scaling: AFAIK Youtube is still not supported and that is my 80% of media consumption on the phone. It's like having a track, a McLaren, and a limiter set on 60kmh.
-Value retention: There's no way I'm gonna hold on to a phone for over a year, so selling it afterwards is a big thing. G6 already dropped in price like 33%...
SGS8:
-Bixby button: For me, it's a psychological nightmare having a button that does nothing useful. How do you cope with this? Iris scanner is pretty close to this.
-Brittleness: While holding the phone in a store, it felt like a porcelain plate - you drop it once and it's all broken. Any experiences?
-Price: 100$ over the G6 at the moment. Hard to decide if the difference is worth a hundred.
-'Simple' camera: It's great, no doubt. But that wide-angle on the G6 though...
Has any of you been in such position? Which way did you go (or would go, if it were you)?
Thanks
G6

Had both and g6 is better imo and i was a samsung man for years
Honestly, G6 is better in my opinion. The processor really doesnt matter at this point since in terms of speed, most android flagships nowadays can handle pretty much everything. Even if 835 is more 'battery efficient', the g6 pretty much lasts me all day sometimes 2 full days. Biksby/fingerprint sensor/camera/touchwiz are all things i pretty much disliked on the S8
I'm a huge Samsung fan and own many of their phones and tablets. I don't like the edge screens so I was turned off to the S8. I also wanted the dual camera setup with the wide lens, not 2nd zoom lens like iPhone7 and OnePlus 5. Maybe I'll get the S9 when it comes with a 2nd wide camera and a better placed fingerprint sensor. I'm happy with the G6.
If you're in the USA, you can get the factory unlocked S8 for $425 with $200 trade in of any smart phone. Offer available on Samsung's website.
I asked myself the same question the last two weeks and today I decided for the G6:
*Only 440€ vs 799€ for the Samsung
*I don't like this edge-stuff. I prefer a flat screen
*I'm not doing any gaming. So 821 vs 835 should not make any difference in speed
*Dual Camera on the LG
*I really like to have the on/off button on the backside of the phone. It's so Handy on my G3
*The Samsung seems to be so fragile. It is much easier to drop the Samsung on the glass than the LG. And because I don't want to use those bulky cases...

LG G6! The Snapdragon 821 is still a beast in 2017, it's no slouch just as seen in the One Plus 3T or the Google Pixel, LG G6 is just fast as them, as for the demanding games or the fluidity of the UI , the LG UX 6.0 is smooth enough that it's even better than the Samsung Galaxy S8's software which is little laggy at times. LG G6 for the win.

Lolz, jk. The exynos variants are VERY cool. And I think the S8 is a really nice looking phone.
I DO prefer the G6, but it's not like you can go wrong with either one.
Edge screens and the WTF location of the fingerprint sensor are a solid NO for the S8

I had the Note 4, which I think it was the best Sammy cellphone.... However, when Samsung decided to add the curved display, it was for me the end... Curved Display makes the S8 incredibly fragile... Even with a case, you may break or crack the display if you drop it...
Get G6...
Definitely the G6.
Flat screen. Better display (I like the IPS LCD more because of the accurate colours) and better battery life IMHO.
Bixby is useless because nothing can be topped then Google assistant.
The wide angle lens camera is the biggest plus!

I personally think the S8 is an abomination, after having the original galaxy S, galaxy nexus, note 2, lg G3, Galaxy S7. The S7 was the final straw for me. Years of trying to debloat and dealing with the jenky UI, slow downs. Add to it the curved screen which after holding both the S7 Edge and the S8 I don't want. I've seen several broken already on the S8 from being dropped. People were really mad about it, which is another conversation.
I sold my S7 for a G5 recently and couldn't be happier. Its fast, I love the rear fingerprint reader/power button. The camera is great and the wide angle is a fun change to have and has been handy at times. I'm an LG Convert at this point.
In speed tests I've watched, the S8 will load some stuff a little faster but the G6 actually keeps stuff in memory longer. The camera is great, and you don't have any goofy hardware buttons and weird fingerprint sensor locations. LG also engineered the G6 to withstand a lot of abuse. I don't think the processor is an issue and you will have a very nice flat screen phone.
I think front facing camera on G6 is far worse than S8 (especially in low-light conditions). Otherwise, things are really good. The price here in my country, S8 is almost double G6. So it would be really easy decision.
I just got my G6 yesterday. Coming from US S8.
Right off the bat. I notice that the build is much more sturdier in terms of feel in hand. Very solid build. It does not feel like you need to handle it with care like the S8.
Also, the FPS just sits super natural. Unlike the S8.
As far as performance, I have not seen any real world differences. Both perform very well. The S8 stuttered a bit at times however.
Camera - the G6 is more "fun" where as, the S8 produces better photos? Not much better. Moreso preference. The G6 is no slouch. It can hold its own.
Audio quality. The G6 sounds way better than the S8 in terms of speakerphone , and headphone jack. The music is just a dream to listen to. And I've had the pleasure of using the V20 to compare.
Features - has the ip68 and wireless charging.
To me it is the perfect choice for the price.
I only paid $380 so it was a no brainer. Sold my S8 for profit and am finding my experience with the G6 very satisfying.
However it may be tough to sell later. You will probably lose money if anything.

Go for s8.today i broke my front display,it was drop out from my pocket only 5-6inch distance.???
Go for S8 if you can tolerate the edge and the touchwiz. That's a better piece of hardware, other than the wide angle camera.
One thing I don't like about the s8 is that it's on everyone's hand. Having a g6 makes me stand out a bit. It also looks better imo.
I think the g6 is under-appreciated. The gs8 may be sexier, and you do get the 64 vs 32 GB difference (us models), but for me it came down to price. At&t had the lg6 for half price which beat even the $300 trade-in on the unlocked gs8 - especially since only black was available for that (I really liked the silver g6 once I saw it, but the store ironically only had black, so it was black vs black).
In real life use I am very happy with the g6 but I would have been happy with the gs8 too. But in some ways you can suffer by not having the more popular device!

They are both great phones. However, I cant justify the price of Samsung.
I feel like samsung has too many gimmicks. LG really gets to the point and has a pricepoint that a 2017 flagship should be priced at.

LG G6 or HTC 10

Can't decide between the two.
Love HTC for Viper Rom and rooting
G6 seems like a great phone but no root for the dual sim version.
Both around £320
It's a shame LG dual SIM devices never got much development...
The 10 is a fantastic device, built like a tank, and feels much, much sturdier than the G6. Great audio, with fine tuning on the jack, as a result with good headphones, the 10 might even be better than the Quad Dac G6. I have both right now, it's a dilemma picking one over the other. I might keep the 10, I don't trust myself and I'm really concerned about breaking the glass back of the G6. I really like the wide camera but I don't take that many pictures. Every day performance is the same, they both fly. The small bezel design is very attractive though. Hard choice, I must admit... I didn't help much.
I'm debating this myself soon. If the G6+ comes to the US and I can get a good deal on it through a carrier I will likely go with the G6 because I have the G5 and have been very happy with it. But if it doesn't, I want that quad dac and the 10 is built like a tank. If I can get a deal I might get the 10.
I just got my G6 yesterday. Coming from an S8.
The G6 feels extremely secure in the hands compared to the S8. Much more sturdier. It rightfully so deserves the military grade it has.
Ive owned the HTC 10 from last year, and don't remember much about it.
It was a very great phone that felt nice due to the build. Audio quality was second to only the V20 I had.
Nothing wrong with the phone at all.
I'd take the G6 over the 10 for these reasons alone
- ip68
- audio from US version is acceptable. Actually very good. Not V20, but slightly lower. Better than the S8.
- the screen tech is welcoming. HDR and Dolby Vision.
- 821
- overall great bargain for the price I paid of $380USD

Screen and camera of the G6 blows away the 10, Audio on the 10 blows the G6 away.
So HTC 10 - Audio and sturdyness (Tank), Camera and waterproof but Fragile (No way military spec sorry) G6.

Craigslist has them at $450 all day.
You just need to submit your offer to a desperate seller.

I went through the same dilemma, but in the end I went the G6 - it was IP68 that got me.
