[Q] Factory Mode - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello to all you developers out there.
For quit some while now is recieve a consistent warning pop-up whenever i reboot my phone. It only occourse when i'v installed a TW rom. When i'm running any other rom like a GPE for example, the warning does not appear.
Currently i'm on Goldeneye 49.2. My phone is a GT-I9505 on baseband-version: I9505XXUGNK4
I'm not a developer, but a true flashjunky. I would not now how many times is flashed one of your roms and so i do not now specific when this problem started. I'v spend much time browsing the internet in search of this problem and how to fix it. But my effords where not succesfull. The only thing i might have picked up about it, is that is could be related to a corrupt EFS. I hope some of you out there can give me a headsup about this.
Plus! I want to thank all you devoted developers out there. Your hard work and effords are much apreciated.
I have made a picture of the warning.
Thank you for taking your time reading this and i hope someone knows how to fix this.
Greatings,
Peter

Hi mate,
Indeed it could be related to an EFS problem......It would help us to help you if you tell us what you tried so far to fix it

Hi There,
Thanks for your quick reply. As soon as i read about the EFS, i also read about the backup of the EFS. But i didn't have on.
I made a backup and tried to restore. But i gues a corruption would also be backuped. I also tried to manualy adjust the EFS. Neither workt. Following that i tried holding down the power button for more then 10 seconds till it rebooted (read that somewere between de lines). I also tried various other roms, kernels and basebands. I full despiration i tried returning to fully stock rom. Nothing worked.
Now it has been about a month and a half i left this issieu. So ik can not be very specific about mij tries to resolve.
Is this in any way helpfull?

that is one of the saddest thing that will happen to your phone. My sister has s2 and s3 and she was a flashaholic with different roms and now both phones have no signal/baseband unknown.. She never back up her efs so she cant fix it. I tried my very best to search for an answer, i saw some but it never solve it anyways. Im using my s4 and i backed up my efs every flash that i do. Try to flash official rom, latest modem and pray that it will fix it.

Hi
Well let me tell you about a few things you can try , with some luck they may be enough if not you may have to take it to a local repair shop with a Z3X box of similar they may be able to rebuilt the EFS folder
Check if the EFS folder is mounted correctly
Install / use Terminal Emulator
mount -r -w -o remount,rw -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p10
mke2fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p10
mount -r -w -o remount,rw -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p10 /efs
Reboot
With a root explorer go to EFS/factoryApp/factorymode and open it if it says off change it to on
In case none of the above worked check this great thread about EFS and Factory Mode for further help…..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2392632
If those points do not work and without an working EFS backup you may have to look for professional help ( with a Z3X box or similar )

Thank you very much for your help. I did tried to fix the EFS with the guides in the site you mentioned repeatedly. But none were succesfull. The strings you mention in your post, do not look formiliar and i tried them just now. After the second string i get the following in the Emulator:
" can't format mounted filesystem"
Could this be the issieu? Both de FactoryApp and Keystr are on ' ON ' when i open them in a rootexplorer.
And i'm starting to think this problem will, despite all your help, not be resolved.

@MAX 404 try to go to the nearest cellphone repair shop they have this cable that can fix that issue. Its around 4-5$ depends on your country.

Hi
Regarding the string , Are you root at the moment , maybe that is the problem , i have not tried in while but they should work...did you check in the thread i gave you?
regarding your other point , ON is the normal , ON is not factory mode...strange but is like that..

I found a wrong reverence in the string. In your string you refer to mmcblk0p10. Except voor the S4 it's ...0p3. Found that out after you let me check the thread again. Although the factory mode is still on after inserting your three strings.
Second thing i noticed was that with the first two string, i get a repley string and info that i can't understand. With the third string, i get no reply string in the emulator. Do you think this can be part of the problem?
I also included a screenshot from the emulator.

this one is a little more complicated than before but it due to moving to the new file system.
1. You need to have the New OR put together by Mz and Fj, just copy to root of SD card.
*****NEW*****
Mz and FJ put out a new OR, Very very very nice, and i added Supercharger V6.
+
Now listen Kids DO NOT USE BULLET PROOF!!!

2. If you have ext2 or 3 just format to ext4 with OR SD utilities.
If you already have EXT4 made with OR you are fine, but if formatted from gparted or something else it wont work!
You need format back to ext2 with you fav util and see step 2.

Ok, downloading now..!
I'm very happy with CM6 but hey, I can't resist flashing a new ROM..
Question: So if i don't have EXT4, no issues? Will app2extr still work with my EXT3 partition? Thanks again!
Wow dude, i don't know what to say, I'm literally like a kid at christmas! LMAO! Thanks a lot Hellmonger Been eagerly waiting but know you been workin hard on this Beaut! Awesome work man and thanks for your help Mz you been performing miracles lately! Nice work on ext4 bud! and everyone else. Thanks Peshovic and fjfalcon as well. Trying now!
Know I'm a nub here and all, but I've got an rooted, SIM-Unlocked Cincy Bell XT720. I'll pitch this ROM on (tried out Dexter's 2.2 already) and let you guys know how it works on WIND Mobile (Canada). O-^
Well...I installed it. Went over smoothly, things appeared fine at a first glance. But, I'm still failing to be able to connect to Wind Home (3G - non roaming). The phone's completely SIM-unlocked, sees both WIND Away (Rogers - 2G) and WIND Home, but I'll either get a "Your SIM Card does not allow a connection to this network" problem, or the network just fails to connect outright. I think it may be a problem with the radio or some other form of configuration with this thing...something stupid I'm not finding. Can anyone help me out here? :/

I'm not sure about how I ended up being able to post here...probably because my account's been around since December '09, I perhaps have some "seniority" factor or something along those lines that defies the post limit. No idea...
Anyways, I can pin it down precisely to a "Your SIM does not allow a connection to this network" error. I've got my APNs configured perfectly and set up, and have all of my data settings on. When I go to manually select a network, WIND Home consistently becomes available. I'll select it though, and I get a "Selected network (WIND Home) unavailable" notification, followed by the SIM error 1-2 minutes later. I can connect to WIND Away with great signal strength, and even pull 3G roaming...I've tried everything in here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=974375) including SMSC config and locking the band to WCDMA through the hidden phone menu for detecting WIND Home only.
I hate being a noob here, tromping on this guy's latest release with this problem. I'd just make a separate thread on the matter and get help that way, but it seems a bit excessive to start two discussions on the same topic. Sorry, and thanks in advance for all the help.

Well for starters, I am connected with 3g plus wifi so no probs there for me. Everything is freakin awesome so far! Love the Mean Green Glad to have it back! Nice pic for wallpaper! speed is perfect for me, don't need that Super crazy over the top speed lol.

Alright, thanks...I'm dead sure this is a Cincy Bell (saw the links for Cincy Bell website sites with the Moto portal tool when I first got it), but I'll just ask in the General section and leave this thread in peace. Again though, at least I can vouch for the fact that installing this ROM and fiddling around with it didn't screw it up in any way...one more bit of peace of mind for prospective flashers.
Thanks a lot !!!!!
But does an ext3 partition will work ???? Do you have to make an ext4 part? (to make you have to follow the same order than before with the ext3???) Can you move your apps from ext3 to ext4????

Help with executing commands in adb; stuck at ".../bin/sh...No such file..." error

Help with executing commands in adb; stuck at ".../bin/sh...No such file..." error
I am out of all tricks now for reviving my Note which boots into download and recovery mode. I conclude that from what I have experienced, that factoryfs is the partition which fails to take any write commands when I odin a ROM, as it gets stuck at the factoryfs message. I have tried all the flashing of kernels and ROMs with no luck.
Working with adb seems to be the only option, to configure the partitions on my device manually. The big issue is that I am not able to execute "adb shell" command using Forest1971's guide.
So far, I have had no luck going beyond the "exec -/system/bin/sh...:No such file or directory...(2)" error message, when I type the "adb shell" command.
Can someone with the know-how of how to work through adb help with this? This is my last effort of trying to recover my Note, and if it fails, I will have no choice but to sent the device out of the US. I dread sending my phone out of the country for repairs, as I don't know just how long it will be before it gets fixed and is shipped back to me.
Please do not suggest any flash options, because as I said, I have tried all there is to do with flashing - nothing has helped.
First see if you have a /system filesystem. Looks to me that it doesn't exist. See if you can type
Code:
$ cd /system
or
Code:
$ cd /system/bin
If it complains then there's your problem - you don't have a functioning /system. Maybe type mount and show your filesystems.
I know you asked for no flash suggestions, but have you tried making the device do a hard reset - when powered off hold down home, volume up while holding down power on then release power button when screen shows life. May be worth a shot, but looking like another ICS firmware/emmc issue from here... good luck.
[edit]
should have read your post more closely. Looks like you have no /system/bin/sh at all so can't fire up a shell, so you can ignore my initial suggestion.

I won't go the route of laughing and mocking you for saying that. I do think it's a very well put together device, but it just doesn't serve my needs of a big screen, the ability to be free...etc. By the way, you asked me to ignore your suggestion, so I did - FYI.

Yes, unfortunatelly i did everything as stated on adb, but had no luck. If ssc don't replace it, i will try using the memory blocks used by the "internal sd card".
You must try it anyway, there were some users that succesfully unbricked the phone.
Did anyone try this mk2efs command with -c option ON ??
Sorry Incesivekeith
I was out of connection for past 2 days.
We have to pull Mr Forest1971 for doing this.
Let me sum up :
parted is not able to solve your issue.
mk2efs is another formating tool that comes with CWM
You are stuck up in executing commands.
Now the idea of flashing the cwm kernel is fine. Did u try that ??
Mr Forest1971 :
Did you see Dr Sumralls comments for this bug.
''He says that we have to go for a full wipe. I have a tool but I dont know I couldnt share it.''

I won't go the route of laughing and mocking you for saying that. I do think it's a very well put together device, but it just doesn't serve my needs of a big screen, the ability to be free...etc. By the way, you asked me to ignore your suggestion, so I did - FYI.

I asked you to ignore the initial suggestion as you've obviously not got any functioning recovery. You've not provided much info about how you got to this position, but in my similar situation I got out of it by successfully flashing a FULL WIPE factoryfs (LA4 in my case) and doing the factory reset as I mentioned in my first response. I lost a few GB of my eMMC storage but got a working device. May not help you, but may be useful info for others. Share and share alike. Good luck dude .

[Q] No phone-network after ICS CM9

Hi,
I've used CM7 and CM9 before with no major problem. But probably did something wrong because after flashing couple of ICS ROMs my phone (Defy-red lens) became unusable with 2 problems:
- no mobile network connection (no phone-calls, no SMS, no 2/3G)
(Wifi and Bluetooth are OK)
- it does not save the setup, each boot is a new phone with new configuration setup.
I've tried different ROMs (CM9, Quarx, Skanky, etc) with different Kernels (7 & 9), but nothing seems to change this behavior.
The phone also doesn't recognize the IMEI and can't search of operators. I've attached some screeshots.
I was wondering if someone else could share their experience with me or, somehow try to help me. I'm willing to try out things....
Cheers.
You tried changing your baseband??
Sent from my Defy+ using Tapatalk 2
Baseband is not initialized/installed. In the first pic, it shows the baseband as 'unknown'. Select proper baseband matching your country from Baseband Switcher (settings -> Advanced->Baseband Switcher) and reboot your phone.

Baseband is by default on Europe > Central Europe > 3.4x 900/2100 MHz which is not right for me. Should be America > Brasil > TIM 3.4.2-107-9 850/2100 Mhz.
The problem is, as I mentioned, that the phone does not save any settings. After the reboot the Baseband comes back to the default setting.
I already did the wipe factory/reset, wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache many times before/after flashing a ROM (and event deleted the dalvik cache folder via terminal emulator since it wasn't asking for confirmation when deleting via cwm) but didn't really change anything...
Any idea what's leading to the settings not being saved?
Thank you for helping.
PS: I didn't play with partitions, but as I've read in this post, of a similar problem, that this might be the case, I'll post the screenshot of the command df just in case...

try BBs_v4

Thanks. I was able to change the baseband with this app (and somehow keep this setting after a reboot - see screenshots), but under "About phone" still shows as Baseband version Unknown. And I still have no network signal...
Meanwhile... the matter with partitions and settings lost after reboot:

As I see that in the system there are others blocks with similar names (screenshots in post #4), I was wondering if this might be related to the problem I'm dealing with (loosing settings after reboot).
I see some people had problems with this block/partition, for instance in this post - Issue with /dev/block/mmcblk1p25, but I couldn't figure out how they fixed.
Any help is much appreciated.
Hi fbugnon,
I have the same problem on my Defy. I've tried to use 2 differents builds from wdscript.fr (120613 and 120610), installed baseband switcher, but the problem is the same as yours.
Everytime the phone restarts, it resets all settings.
I'm trying to use a build from quarx (quarx2k.ru, build 120305) now, let's see if that helps.
I'll keep you updated.
Hi tiagomelo,
I've tried many differents ROMs but no one was able to change this behavior. I'm not sure, but I believe the problem is related to the partition error mentioned on my last post -- do you also have the same problem?
I was forced, eventually, to do a full SBF with Tim's original system so that I could use my phone and now I'm using CM 7.2 rc3.... Waiting for ICS to solve the calendar sync bug which is crucial for my work and then I'm back on.
Wish you good luck! And please keep us posted, I would like to know where this will lead you to.
Cheers

What ROM are you using? Your build version. And is the problem exactly as described in OP, then I see that its been resolved.
A bit same like yours
Guys i dont know if if i can help you over here but i was some issues with the call/data/3g ... for me as soon as i tried using them they froze completely, not the phone but the signals .. its was related to my baseband settings and stuff,
so i found a solution for this ...
go into recovery cpu settings,
Status: enable
Enable all modules
Scaling: Conservative
dont forget to save at bottom and reboot
if these settings worked for you then it should be alright
This is just a suggestion to the issue .. u can try it .. I don't know if it is %100...
for me it works

That's a different thing. The reason for your freeze would be something with your CPU/chipset.
Good to see someone who is familiar with this issue of mine ..
so would u b able to tell me why i was having this problem with the chipset/cpu related to calls and data download ...
i know its not the right thread but i tried other thread but no answers yet

Hi Ajitnegi,
As mentioned before, the only solution I could find to this problem was restoring the orignal ROM (Motorola's) by doing what they call a full SBF (you can read a bit about sbf in here or in posts on this forum).
Sorry not being able to help any further. Good luck.

Same problem | No network connection
Hi
I am also facing the same problem, no network connection. After going through this post where you had asked to change the baseband settings to the country specific, I did change it. Unfortunately, even after changing the baseband settings, after reboot it changes to default value (.i.e. Central Europe).
While going through this forum, I could not find any final settings provided by the developer, did you get any ? If so, can you point out to it.
Thanks,
Nash

Hi Ajitnegi
I don't know if this is the only way to fix it, but In order to recover MY phone I had to flash a full SBF, which is -- as I understand -- basically a Motorola Recovery that works pretty much like a factory reset. Search the forum and I'm sure you'll find someone explaining how to do it.
Or if you rather take some time to better understand what's going on with your phone before you start flashing it, you might want to take a look at this excellent "All-in-one Defy Beginner's Guide".

[NEED HELP with e2fsck] Soft-Brick : corrupted /data/ & /sdcard/ partitions

----------- FIXED ----------
Hey guys,
I'm encountering a terrible problem with my P6810 tab. Here is the story :
At first, I just did format /system/ (and /data/, cache and dalvik) in CWM before flashing a new Rom.
After reboot, the tab just got stuck on the "Galaxy Tab 7.7" logo. no bootloop, just stuck on static logo.
At this stage i could go to download mode and recovery, which I did.
I tried to reflash the rom, no success so then i tried to flash stock ICS firmware through Odin 1.85 : Stuck on flashing Factoryfs.img for several hours, so i had no choice but to reboot the tab. (i had no kies-related software running, neither my antivirus)
There, the tab got stuck on the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery in Kies" screen, no way to go to either recovery or download mode (not even worth saying Kies didn't recognize the tab).
I've been struggling a few hours with that brick and finally managed to get acces to download and recovery modes again by flashing CWM with Odin alongside a PIT file with "repartition" ticked in Odin.
So there I could access recovery, I flashed CM9, everything went smooth. The tab rebooted and got passed the Galaxy tab 7.7 logo and went to the cm9 bootscreen but got stuck there (big desillusion right there).
So now in recovery, i can mount every partition but those two : /data/ and /sdcard/
I figured out by reading similar threads that the solution to my issue might be e2fsck through adb. I'm a complete noob to adb.
I can acces the adb shell but here are what the commands i've been reading about return me : (mmcblk0p9 is /data/ partition on P6810)
# e2fsck -fDC0 /dev/block/mmcblk0p9 :
e2fsck : Superblock invalid, trying backup blocks...
The superblock could not be read or does not describe as a correct ext2 filesystem.
If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2 filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else),
then the superblock is corrupt and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock : e2fsck -b 8193 <device>
also had this once with this command :
bad magic number in superblock while trying to open /dev/block/mmcblk0p9
# e2fsck -b 8193 /dev/block/mmcblk0p9 :
Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read while trying to open /dev/block/mmcblk0p9
Could this be a zero-length partition ?
# e2fsck -c /dev/block/mmcblk0p9 :
same as above
can you guide me with e2fsck or give me a link to a specific tutorial related to android e2fsck?
is there not a way in adb to like replace the corrupt partitions with freshly created ones ? or any other workaround ?
Any help will be appreciated a lot, i'm willing to donate to whoever provides me with a solution to get my tab running again.
Thanks for reading.
check this thread, very informative, helped me before
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625675&highlight=bootscreen
Thanks a lot, already checked that one though.
Everything that worked for the guys in that thread doesn't work for me, or I'm too ignorant to find out the right e2fsck command...
Still no one able to provide some help please ?
It's weird that so many people are having the same issue on 7.7 these days, could it be related to the EU ban of this tab ?^^
Anyway, last day before i send it to Samsung
check this thread here it may help you solve your issue. All problems are coming from a brick bug in the ICS Kernel thats trigerred by wiping.
Thanks a lot, trying this right now
Can someone please post a (parted) print of a safe and working Galaxy Tab 7.7 (either of the two models) ?
I need the exact size of the /data partition
ISSUE FIXED Thanks to Zorbakun's last post. A million thanks dude.
However, the actual internal storage of my tab is now 50mb :silly: anyway i'll find a way to fix that too.
the actual internal storage of my tab is now 50mb

Well yeah, didn't recover the 16gb but you can try to earn yourself some extra gigs by doing this once you created a fresh /data partiton :
this is an example for p6810, replace resize 9 with resize 10 if on a p6800
Code:
adb shell
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
print
resize 9
It will ask you for start/end values, keep the same start value otherwise it will give you an error. A good idea is to resize the partition like + 500mb at a time, to avoid i/o errors you might get when creating/resizing large file systems.
Hope it helps, good luck.
I am about to have to do this myself, and i'm not a developer. i have accessed and navigated around my device through adb, but this level of complexity *almost* over my head. i just want to make sure i'm not going to permanently mess this up. also, someone in another thread tried flashing ICS with an older version of ODIN and now his tab won't even power on. which i'm trying to avoid... so after reading around these forums for a few days (it happened saturday morning--and i KNEW to avoid flashing from stock ICS recovery--i think i wiped /data-cache-dalvik with CWM 5.0.1) i'm pretty sure that failure to mount /data seems to be the super brick bug everybody's talking about. i bought the p6800 as an import in the US so i am without warranty... if anyone can help with a step by step guide for the masses or something... i'm intelligent, and quite computer literate/net saavy, but i'm not a mentat ("dune" reference)...

Try the .PIT file for the P6800 located here. You will lose all data, and part of your internal SD space. Looks like the brick happens consistently at the same point of the memory chip, so the same .PIT works for most people. If that doesn't help, you will need parted.
How can you use parted? It's a Linux program that runs in your tablet. You will adb shell to it, then you will have a Linux shell. Everything you put down there will run in your tablet, as if you were typing on it (think ssh, or remote desktop). I can't help you much more, because (knocks on wood) my tablet is still very much alive, and I don't use ADB that much.
Now, I don't know how it works in your country, but here in Brazil the Samsung service accepts warranties issued anywhere. It may be worth a shot.

I am working on writing a specific 7.7 guide to teach people the parted/e2fsck technique I use to revive my bricked p6810 everytime I want to flash a new rom or test my builds.
First, as pointed out, try to Odin the PIT file for your particular model (eg : P6800 16gb).
You got to know that the parted technique is a pain in the ass, that you'll have to do it quite often if you like flashing roms, and that your tab will have a much smaller internal storage.
I think the guide will be ready in a couple days but you can pm be if you need help before that, no problem.
Good luck with this superbrick curse
thanks guys for your help, i'm going to try to figure this out this afternoon. i'm in the US, so they don't even offer warranties on imports. i was told by a samsung rep in the US that they don't grant warranties to imported models. i will first try the modified PIT file, then i will try the more complex method. @Androguide.fr i will PM you if i have trouble with the more complicated method later. thanks!!!!

Internal SD Card Paths

Hey guys,
Quick newbie question for you. I followed the procedure in this thread ([ROM][5.1.1][LMY47V] 21 May- Stock Flashable Rom/Factory Image) to a T and have 5.1.1 on the Nexus 4 but for some reason my internal SD card paths are all messed up. I couldn't use my camera to take a photo - it wouldn't save anywhere.
I used Terminal to run the restorecon -FR command for /data/media/0/* and then I restarted the phone and I could use my camera, so that was a good step.
Now I'm in WhatsApp and I can't see any media that people are sending me. The photos stay blurry. Is WhatsApp pointing to a directory that doesn't exist? How can I solve that? Or is my internal SD card ****ed?
I am using TWRP so if you have any solutions I can fully utilize that to fix the path errors or re-flash system img or whatever you think will work! My brother is trying to send me photos through WhatsApp and I can't see 'em!
Any help is appreciated!

You mean the flash_all.bat? Nah - I manually flashed as per the forum thread I linked to. I installed through TWRP, not fastboot. My Nexus 4 only connects as an AC source so I can't even get it communicating with my PC to unroot and flash stock.
So the phone is not recognized in OS X, window, or Linux? Tried different USB cables and USB ports?

Yeah I've pretty much tried everything to get it communicating with the computer again. I think it's a hardware issue - I had my screen replaced and I think some part of the battery assembly wasn't re-installed properly and thus communication ceased. I thought flashing to 5.1.1 would fix what could have been a 4.4.4 issue, as I had USB fast charge enabled with various kernels, but alas this was not to be.
Any ideas about the internal paths?
A screen replacement does involve moving the USB charging port to the new screen and it is possible that this part was damaged and vertical seems to be the case. I assume you don't have access to another phone to test the port.

Yeah no other phone to test the port. I just got an X Play and am using the same cable I was using with my Nexus 4 and communication is flawless - adb, fastboot, all the goodies. I thnk I'll need to take the Nexus to a shop or open it up myself.
Thanks for paying attention to this thread, audit.
Try opening the phone yourself as it is pretty easy but that choice is yours. Good luck!.
Hi Mike, just a hint... did you check the partition status on your device ? To check if it's a logical or hardware issue, here's a reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-play/general/partition-layout-t3196367
You can analyze yours with something like: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cls.partition
and eventually mount manually the missing mounts.

Great idea, dev. How do I go about manually mounting? Do I need to use Terminal or something similar?
Thanks for your reply.
mounts & partitions
@XxMikeMasterxX Yes! In terminal emulator.
Code:
su
cat /proc/mounts
- or -
mount
- or -
df
- or -
cat /proc/partitions
to list all partitions/devices/... a bit messy output
The mount command is also what you'll need after you find the problem.
It can mount a partition, remount read-write...in case it's a permission problem, or bind a folder to another, in case it's looking for a specific folder, but your system named it in a different way.
Not sure if this applies to your case...just an idea Did your partitions check return any anomaly ?

Not that I can see. I'm a bit of a noob with Terminal so I'll even have difficulty identifying the erroneous file paths. It's too bad my adb and fastboot don't work. Or else I'd just revert to stock and re-flash everything.
@XxMikeMasterxX If you don't want to mess with terminal, try using the app linked in my first message then (or others that show mount points and partition details), and please use this as a reference. I posted the MXP one by mistake !!!

@dev>null Eeeek! Scared! I'll try the app and see what I can see. I guess from there it's a simple remount.
So hypothetically let's say that sdcard is mounted somewhere else by mistake and some app folders end up on the wrong partition/location, do I use a remount to remount that particular folder/location to the proper sdcard path?
Whoa I think I just got it.
@XxMikeMasterxX Exactly! There used to be a bug in CM with wrong sdcard mount point. Take a look at this, I'm sure it will address you to the right direction
And also give you examples for command syntax...

You're the man. I'll try it soon. My brother has the phone now so it could be a bit.

My brother tried the Terminal commands but after he entered su and tried the other 4 commands Term returned "nothing found" each time. What does that mean?
Also, it appears that he needs to remlunt his entire SD card somewhere. What's the folder? Root/sfcard
@XxMikeMasterxX Nexus 4 does not have a physical sdcard, so I guess it's just a missing symbolic link.
Try:
Code:
su
mount -o bind /data/media /sdcard
and see if Whatsapp can save the images now.

Thanks for your recommendations. Yet again, though, the command you provided didn't work. I tried to get him to bind different locations to sdcard but that didn't help either.
A funny thing he told me is that under Settings>Storage he can't open the Internal storage section. He said it just doesn't open.
It's almost like Android installed to a really weird location and isn't recognizing anything. I am really baffled.
I checked out the guide - the o ly problem.is that the phone doesn't connect as a USB device (broken link...battery maybe?) and as such he can't run the adb commands.
I wish it did connect USB though - I'd just have him return to stock and then this would all be erased. Any other ideas, dev? I really don't know what to do next... Thanks for your ideas so far - you've been a great help.
