Unrooted S4 to 5.0 Lollipopm cant connect to wifi at all - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I need desperate help
two days ago I went from CM11 to S4I9505 Google Play Edition ROM 5.0.1 and everything was running perfectly. Today I used an app known as "ROM Installer" to flash TWRP easily which it did but I couldnt go back to normal menus and it kept on booting back to Recovery. So I wiped everything and installed the same ROM as it is in my External SD. It was successful but it still would boot to recovery and nothing would work. So I thought my option was to unroot the phone. I used the XDA Unroot/Unbrick guide and used an Android 5.0. Lollipop firmware to flash the stock firmware (second time every using Odin, the first was disastrous and I hated it). I flashed the official stock and it is running but cannot activate WiFi what so ever. It just refuses to toggle. So I reflashed the stock firmware again and it still doesn't work. I was thinking of somehow downgrading to KitKat, use CM Installer which is how I initially rooted the phone and revert to a CWM backup that I made before I flashed the S4 GPE ROM and start over. However I tried using that CM Installer and since im on Lollipop it would refuse to work and I really wanna get back to how everything was before :'( I really dont know what to do (No warranty or anything on this S4) All I can do is make calls and texts. Please help!

fixed!
I've fixed it! Its all back on stock with the all that bloatware and useless features only problem now is whether there is a way to deleted this thread

Slimbean 4.2.2 Build - media issues

Hi all,
I recently installed the newest build of Slimbean. I am having a few issues: I am unable to play any media... Music, videos (youtube). My phone app does not work. I cannot receive nor send any calls. And my phone produces no sounds at all.
I tried installing build 7 to see if it was an issue with the build I was using... didn't help.
Internet and wifi work without any problems.
Galaxy S4 i337m
Baseband: I337MUMUAMDL
Version: Slim-4.2.2.build.7-OFFICIAL
Build #: slim_jfltecan-userdebug 4.2.2 JDQ39E eng.blk_jack.20130706.15730 test-keys
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Update: Any ROM I install... Phone and sounds do not work.

I'd Odin back to stock and see if you still have the issue. If you do it's a hardware issue.

I did just that... But it's a bit of a story.
I had just fixed another problem I was having yesterday. Was getting stuck at the S4 splash screen right after powering on the phone. The problem was caused by TWRP 2.6 and formatting /data partition. Long story short, I installed CWM and used it to do a full wipe/format of partitions and then was able to install ROMs, restore backups without issue.
So today, since everything was working, I decided to flash a new custom ROM (which I installed) and the MG1 radio. Wasn't having any luck with the radio. Finally, I was able to flash a radio via mobile odin, but then I soft bricked my phone. Got stuck at the S4 splash screen (same issue I had yesterday, but this time, a different cause). So was troubleshooting it all day. Tried to go back to stock, no luck. Tried to restore the stock backup I had, no luck. Only thing I could do was install custom ROMs at this point to get into my phone (i.e. Slimbean, FoxHound, etc...). But, at this point, although I could boot into Android, I had no sound at all and couldn't play video. So after hours of trial and error, I installed CWM again (replacing TWRP 2.5.0.2), did a full wipe/format and tried to install a stock ROM. No luck. Still was hanging at the S4 splash screen. Then I tried to install this ROM again which I had luck with in the past; |ROM| |★VLUAMG1★| |CANADIAN||i337M||STOCK||ROOTED||July.26.13|. But his instructions said to install a wifi fix or fear soft bricking my phone. So I installed the wifi fix, but selected the wrong file (I know, stupid. Done a lot of stupid **** in the past couple days with this phone). Now, after the phone rebooted, I would see the S4 splash screen for a split second, and it would auto load into download (odin) mode. Couldn't get into recovery at all. So then I decided to flash one of the stock ROMs I tried earlier that didn't work, but this time, SUCCESS!!!!! Phone was booting and all sounds worked. I could make/receive phone calls as well... Everything seems to be working fine now. I find it funny that flashing a wifi fix that I shouldn't have seems to have fixed my issue in a sense. Since it allowed me to successfully flash a stock ROM. So I am making a backup of the stock ROM and will decide what I'm going to do from here.
Holy goalie!!! It's been a very vexing couple of days.
Nice that you got it all worked out, I've found out that if your "status" is custom, it will sometimes give you problems when flashing a "stock" rom via odin.
So what I always do when reverting back to the stock rom, I use triangle away to clear the flash count and make my phone back to "Official". If you want the steps to do this, let me know, it's not hard, but there are crucial steps to get this right!

[Q] Galaxy S4 Sacs Rom Issue Please Help

I just flashed this rom successfully yesterday. The rom was stable and working, however I wanted to get the hotspot to work. I used a hotspot mod on a previous 4.3 rom, so I tried it again on this rom. I flashed the MDC Hotspot Mod while in Philz Touch 5.18 recovery. After flashing the hotspot mod, I reboot the system and it is stuck at the "Kit Kat" splash screen. I went back to recovery, wiped everything (data reset, cache, davlik cache) and reinstalled the rom and it seemed to work fine. However, I wanted to get the hostpot working so later in the night I reinstalled a 4.3 rom, and now I can not get any rom to work. When I boot up I am not faced with the Galaxy S4 screen saying:
KERNEL IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING
Set Warranty Bit: kernel
It will not go to the Kit Kat splash screen, I can get to download mode and recovery mode. I tried completely re-rooting the device, Installing different roms and even a different kernel, but I can't seem to get anything to work. At this point, I just need my phone to work and will use any rom. I don't think this is a fully bricked device because I can get into recovery and download mode. I can live without hotspot for now, just need a working phone. If anyone can advise here or help please reply here or email me at [email protected]. This is my daily driver phone and I need it to work, hopefully it is an easy fix like getting a stock 4.4 kernel? BTW this was a brand new galaxy s4 which came with stock 4.4, so I am not sure if installing 4.3 had an issue with it. Maybe using ODIN to fix the problem, I am not sure. I have successfully rooted many phones including HTC EVO 4G, HTC EVO 3D and Galaxy S4( until now) and have never ran into this issue. Please advice anyone!! Thanks!
RE: S4 Sac Rom Issue Please Help
I ran into a similar problem and my device would not boot. I simply just reflashed clockwork 6.0.4 recovery from Odin and was able to get back into recovery to wipe and reflash a new rom. Hope this helps. Note: I selected PDA in Odin. Here is a tutorial to get recovery back.

Good luck.

Soft brick - Need some guidance

It's been awhile since I changed anything on this phone, I've been running CM11 with no issues. The wife was playing with my phone which is on cm12 and wanted me to upgrade it. Great, I hate having to touch her phone but ok.
1. Did a straight upgrade to CM12 nightly (couple nights ago build) with gapps from CM site. After the install everything crashes on the initial load, it's like the baseband is jacked and doesn't know how to handle the new google play services because everything crashes.
2. Went back and wiped internal everything this time, re installed nightly and gapps. No change.
3. Tried step 2 a couple more times and different gapps from PA and other random sites (micro, light, stock versions) and then TWRP just died on me. It's asking for a password when I first go in so now I'm stuck there. Tried to use ODIN to install the latest TWRP after converting it with another script found here (i'll find the link).
so, I'm probably going to have to use ODIN to restore some stock version of S4 ATT but I really don't know which one is stock that would work with CM12. I don't want to get caught in the safestrap crap of dual boot and whatever else. Any help is greatly appreciated.
You'll need to Odin the mdl firmware in Odin. Be careful as it will want to update itself after you flash it. See sammobile.com for the firmware.

Awesome, thanks!
Flashed the stock, towelroot, twrp from google play and cm12 nightly. Perfect and back where I left off. Thanks!!
Ok.. I did a bad thing I guess. after working for a couple weeks I tried to reset the phone while cm12.1 was installed. All it did was keep restarting TWRP and was stuck there. So I figured there was an issue with the twrp install or something whatever, I went to flash back to stock mdl in odin. Instead of selecting PDA I selected Phone and it failed on the first attempt. Then I selected PDA and it installed correctly (Said passed). Now I'm stuck on the AT&T logo on boot. I tried to reinstall the stock rom again and the same results. Where do I go from here??!?

Ok, factory reset worked on the second try. Sent it in to a boot loop on the first go around, odd. Thanks!

Galaxy S5 Stuck On Splash Screen with Set Warranty Bit: kernel ---please help

First post, So hey everyone
So I rooted my phone around 6 months ago with CF Auto Root, everything went fine but i was still on stock ROM. So then i found the Alliance ROM and decided to flash that because it looked cool. I flashed it using FlashFire to ensure I keep root. Everything worked and booted just fine, really smooth and of course it looked awesome. One small problem though, I could not send messages but I could receive them. Probably a SMSC (that was around 3 hours of head ache attempting to fix that) issue or because Straight Talk didn't like my phone using Android 5.0. So then I tried downgrading to Alliance 4.4.2, NOPE. That was the end of my phone :'(
Im now stuck on the Galaxy S5 screen with "Set Warranty Bit: Kernel" in the top right. No idea how to fix it and obviously knox was tripped but that isnt a huge deal to me.
I have tried the following.
1. Tried to reroot (seemed to fix a lot of issues actually)
2. Tried to reflash Alliance ROM android 5.0
3. Multiple cache and system wipes.
4. Installed TWRP through Odin but thats useless because I was dumb and deleted my back up in the system wipe
Im currently downloading stock ROM but my hope for that is fading judging that TWRP even stalls out and the phone reboots right when it attempts to flash. - well this was a bust, there are 4 freaking md5 files. when i go to flash with odin it says it a modem and then fails
What i have access to:
1. Recovery
2. Download
Is my phone already 6ft under or is it hanging on for dear life?
Edit: Should also mention that my galaxy is a SM-G902L (Straight Talks' model???). CF Auto Root for Galaxy SM-900F was used to root. So that is what i based my choice for model when installing Alliance
Ok so recent update, When I go into reboot and do system or whatever, it says there's no OS installed. I guess that would make sense why it doesn't want to boot, because there's nothing to boot into... but why cant i install any OS through odin???
Another Update: So I have no OS, I know how to flash a new OS, such as a custom ROM, but my phone refuses to accept the flash whether through odin or through TWRP.... W.T.F. Did i really look my phone down? And I guess that means that I will need to get the Straight Talk variant of Android 4.4.2 Great If anyone has the a backup and they are on straight talk, please help me out
Thanks for the help!
FIXED!!!
So after around 14-16 total hours of headaches, I have managed to bring my phone out of the grave. I read over the Straight Talk Variant Galaxy S5 thread multiple times and saw people saying that most Verizon ROMs work decently if not perfectly fine with the SM-G902L. So I downloaded M.O.A.R ROM and flashed through TWRP.
Worked like a freaking charm!! She booted right up, into the waterspout boot animation, and after a very long 5 minutes, I got to the welcome and setup screens!! I guess it was just a matter of finding the right ROM. I just find it kind of weird that it would flash Alliance just fine and then not allow it the second time...
Anyway, the very helpful thread that saved my phone

Back to stock rom, hanging when placing call, no sound etc.

Hi there
I have recently picked up my old S4 since my OPO screen broke. I was annoyed with the buggy CM 12 nightly it was running and tried installing the newest CM 13 nightly. It gave me no signal and I decided to try to revert to stock, following the guide Unroot/Unbrick, Flash official stock firmware on S4. Applying the I9505XXUAMDE_I9505OXXAMD8_NEE 4.2.2 stock rom through ODIN was a breeze but after booting i realized it had no sound.
Also placing or receiving calls makes the phone hang, even occasionally reboot, and sometimes a window with "android.phone.. app" or "process system is not answering" appears. For example also not possible to record video.
I did both factory reset and wipe cache in bootloader, but when wiping cache I get the lying down android with red exclamation mark for a few seconds then reboot.
I then tried to reflash above stock rom with repartition (pit file) and the problem remains.
I dont suppose it is a hardware problem since it started after I flashed new rom. It seems like some audio related software issue that I cant seem to get rid of - can anyone help or should I just give up and get another phone?
Thanks in advance, sorry for the long post
Try flashing a newer ROM.
The guide used is pretty old I guess and should be used only as reference.
What was the initial stock ROM your device had?

I already tried rerooting and flashing back to both CM 10.2 and newest CM 13 nightly from philz touch recovery. Both with the same problem when placing or receiving a call. But sound was working..
I don't know the exact stock rom the phone came with but seem to recall it was 4.2.2 as I have installed now.
Is there anything else that can be flashed back to original? I read several posts talking about a modem reflash for fixing audio issues but I suppose the stock rom should contain the modem info already..?
I specifically went for the oldest rom, since the guide said that once stock 4.3 is flashed you cant revert due to new bootloader. And I was hoping to revert to being able to use OTA updates since I plan on gifting the phone to an even more tech illiterate than myself.. Is that going to be a problem if I just flash for example the newest 5.0.1 stock rom?

Downgrading causes problems in the first place, that is why it is recommended to flash the same software as it originally had.
As long as your status says "official" in download mode, you should be able to still get updates. Although who knows for how long.
I also recommend using the latest TWRP recovery. PhilZ and CWM are outdated and can cause problems with newer ROMs.
