HTC 816G Dual SIM Octacore Root and Custom Recovery - Desire 816 General

This is my First ever Thread so please pardon me for errors...
I know all this information is available but I just wanted to make it in one thread.
I wanted to share a few things which will enable you to correctly root and install custom recovery on your HTC 816G Dual SIM(Octacore variant to be precise).
First: There's no need to unlock bootloader as it's a mediatek chip based phone (to be honest I don't know what a mediatek has to do with it, it's the searching).
Second: iroot PC software is the best to root this phone. link: www mgyun com/en/getvroot
iRoot may install some apps with Chinese name you can ignore that until the device is rooted and uninstall them later if you don't want them.
Third: Custom recovery can be installed using MTK droid tools. Link: www mediafire com/download/6z9acf5um65cuj2/MtkDroidTools+v2.5.3.zip
You need to make sure the Device is rooted and Busybox installed.
And USB Debugging is ON.
How to install CWM recovery:-
Connect the phone using USB cable to your PC.
Click the ROOT button on right bottom. Click yes for permission when the pop up appears.
Allow access or grant access on the device screen when asked.
Goto the tab named "Root, backup, recovery"
Select the radio button which says "To choose the boot file from phone"
Click "Recovery and Boot"
MTK droid sofware can install busybox as well however it didn't do so when I was following the process so I'd recommend you guys to install busybox from Google playstore, Busybox playstore link: play google com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox&hl=en
This thread is also a question as I haven't tried a custom ROM yet, Can anyone confirm if CM12 is supported for Dual SIM?
Any help will be greatly appreciated

iRoot takes a few repetition to work, I got it done after trying a few times. Can you confirm USB debugging was on and whether there was any app installed while trying iRoot

Anyone got soft/hard bricked when rooting using iroot or not??
I am afraid to root (especially when I dealing with HTC )(because I hard bricked HTC desire 500 dual when I tried to root it and flashed a cwm recovery )
So is there any danger when rooting it ?

As far as I'm aware iRoot is not dangerous in those terms as it doesn't flashes the file in flashmode but I cannot confirm it though(anything can happen).
I feel it's the easiest way to root and for HTC desire 816G I didn't had any issues in rooting whatsoever.
Risk is always there but to cross the barrier you gotta give it a try
Thanks.

Anyone tried to root and flashed a custom rom????
So i'm recently got the HTC Desire 816G Octa Core .... I'd love to flash custom based on android 5.0 but i'm bit scared with flashing the rom.... Anyone tried these steps if anyone did please reply......

Haven't tried yet becase the CM 12 doesn't have module for dual SIM. Also the HTC 816g has a mediatek chip and the kernel is different, the kernel is not yet available for developers to look at. I guess you should wait. If you still want to try make sure to create a NANdroid bavk up..

I believe it's an older version of SuperOneClick that works OK with android 2.1 that flipout has
I had problems using SuperOneClick, so I did it using an older version of UniversalAndroot which I used for my other phone. You download it straight to your phone by accessing this link tinyurl.com/urooted.
how do you UNroot a device?
I though that by restoring to factory defaults the root would be gone but i was wrong!

[Q] My Tattoo wont root :(

my tattoo wont root..I tried evry method...I tried over 4 rooting apps..I tried the the file that u run on a computer "roottatoo.bat"...I tried typing the code in the command line and it just wont root...it originated from indonesia..asian area..it didnt come with an android market so i dont know if it is blocked or anything are they any person who can help me with...pllleeeeaseeee help me i am using android 1.6 and its really crap sigh please...is there anyways I can root otherwise...?
Try to look for the error you get when input the commands and then search xda with the output. There are many posts that maybe help you. Also you can try to make a goldcard and flash a different stock rom(maybe the international version) to have market and try to root this rom. Maybe the problems caused from a different kernel version that your rom has.
Go to the unlockr website and follow their guide to unlocking the HTC tattoo. It worked for me

You have to do full wipe. What Recovery you are using?
Hi. Boot into recovery and then do a full swipe and then try to flash the ROM.
Don't re root you only have to root once.

Don't try to root it again !!! Only one!! You will brick ur phone. As I can see you have to flash the stock RUU again and then flash a custom ROM.

[Q] How to Root the latest Android Lollypop updated HTC Desire 816 ?

Hi! I recently updated my HTC Desire 816 to the Lollypop Version OTA. But it has considerably reduced my internal storage. From various discussions, I found that if the phone is ROOTED, I can remove the bloatwares, partition my SD card to use it up as internal storage and various other features. But the various rooting tutorials online are for the Kitkat versions of the desire 816 and users have reported various complaints when using the same guides for the Lollypop updated phones. Can someone give me a step-by-step tutorial on how to root my Lollypop updated phone? Would really appreciate it.
Follow the directions for rooting 816 with kitkat, but select other supported device when getting the token from HTCdev site.
Which method of rooting?
I see a lot different methods to root HTC desire 816. Some using Android SDK Manager, Some Using HTC Sync Manager, Some Using ADB and Command Prompt with a combination of these methods. Would you mind suggesting me which is the best method to root?
am also looking for this.. plz help
just flash in CWM or TWRP the latest supersu. zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133

Sorry, but if you don't even know how to find that info or understand it then maybe you should not even try to root your phone. You can brick your phone and waste a lot of time to fix the problems. If you can't stand to lose the use of your phone for a few days if you make a mistake then don't do it.
Hint: there is a thread on this page on how to root the 816. Follow the directions. There is also a youtube video on rooting the HTC 816 by Potent Tech. Google search is your friend...
There is really only one method, but it takes a few steps as you listed previously. The htc sync manager is needed to install the USB driver for the phone. You need to turn on developer options and USB debugging on your phone. The development tools adb.exe and fastboot.exe are part of the android sdk. Both are used from the windows command line prompt. To get those files you can download and install the Android SDK but it installs a lot of extra stuff not needed for rooting your phone. Some users have made those files available for download separately. You need to get the unlock tocken from the htcdev site. Once you unlock your phone you can install a custom recovery. I recommend TWRP 2.8.6.0. Once you have TWRP installed you can install SuperSU from TWRP or from the play store.
Follow their directions (the video) or in the rooting 816 thread.

Hi I'm planning to do the same as you.
Could you please keep us informed on how much internal storage you managed to get after rooting ? And also is the battery life better without the bloat wares ? What about partitioning sd ?
Tnx in advance .

Depends on how much you want. For my use, I added 4 GB from my 32 GB microSD. Apps working fine after linking to this secondary primary storage. Might make the 4GB as 8 GB in the future. I haven't done much battery enhancement as of now, neither have I removed the bloatwares. But I am getting roughly the same battery backup before rooting now. I used the Mini Partition Tool on my PC for partition. You also might want to install an init.d package to make the secondary partition auto bootable on switch on.
is there any tutorial on partitioning sd and also using link2sd (if you're using this) ?
And a link to that init.d package ?
Tnx in advance .
