Root and recovery working on lollipop - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 General

I don't take credit for this, i am just giving a guide on how i was able to gain root and recovery on the Sprint Note 4 with Lollipop.
Let me start by saying i was running the Hybrid-X series rom. Here were my steps to upgrade to Lollipop and keep all my data. If you are on stock, skip this step.
1. Flash the stock rom tar found here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95853297432265112
2. Once you reboot, run system update and you will download and install Lollipop. When it installs and reboots, you should still have all your data and apps.
Once in lollipop, i followed our old root method which does work for lollipop found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/orig-development/sm-n910-cf-auto-root-t2897428
Now, to get recovery, you can do it 2 different ways.
1.download an app called flashify from the play store. Download the following file in .img form:
http://www.techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/trltespr
2. download the .tar file from above and flash in oodin.
Once you have both on your phone, open flashify, select recovery image and hit Yup! and then reboot. Your phone should reboot into TWRP.
At this point you will have all your data, root, and recovery. Enjoy

As a note, i would backup your data though any apps that you can. I wiped the data since the system seemed sluggish. When i restored thought titanium, there were a lot of apps that were crashing. Wiping the data to each app didn't work. I had to uninstall and re-install the app, but then you loose the data.
On a second note, once i wiped data in recover, lollipop was very nice and smooth.

Awesome good find have to try it out

I'm guessing once you flash the stock rom tar you get the stock recovery, that's why in step 3 you have to use flashify to get twrp back.

Once you flash the stock rom, and update to lollipop, you loose TWRP.

I used galaxy tools and it seems to be working fine.

Nothings changed. Odin stock tar, odin cf autoroot, odin twrp 2.8.5... Just like kitkat.

TWRP works. I backed up 5.0.1, did a full wipe and restored it. No problem.
The only issue I have found so far, es file Explorer can no longer write to system or change file permissions. Bummer, I'll have to find another way to copy over my custom boot animations and sounds.

I'm asking because I read somewhere that Lollipop was a little more carrier friendly in blocking the hotspot feature unless it's been paid for. Can you verify that it works with Galaxy tools?

After the update, my sim is locked again. Galaxy Tools will no longer unlock for international use.
And it doesn't read the MSL either.
EDIT:
It does still add all the toggles.

How did you install cwm? I rooted mine via odin with the cf method and ive confirmed root with several root checker apps. I cant seem to get cwm or twrp though and its extremely frustrating. Every time i try it just reboots to stock recovery.

I myself am new to Samsung devices, coming from Moto and 1+1..but with those devices..once the recovery is flashed, then one will reboot directly into recovery..anotherwords..flash the recovery file, then reboot the device to recovery..then from that, once into the custom recovery, one would boot normally..
The reason I'm un-sure in my explaination with the Samsung way..is NO custom recovery NORE Root is available for my new device of just a few days ago..and using Odin, I have only practiced, prepairing for when, hopefully the Dev's I'm in personal contact with, will come up with the Recovery and Root I need..
BUT..I can assure you, when flashing with adb, the recovery file, if one doesnt reboot immediately into recovery after flashing..to make recovery stick..otherwise the flash wouldnt take, and the stock recovery would remain..SOMEONE here with Odin experiance, PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong..
SORRY, thread, for getting so far off context..

Everything was for the 530h varient, but worked perfectly on my 530az. I dont know if that helps anyone here or not but i figured id throw that out there.

Galaxy Note 3- Problems After Upgrading To 5.0

I am sure that XDA developers will not let me down
Dear guys,
I had updated my kitkat 4.4.2 to lollipop 5.0 but I faced to major problems which are:
1. My screen shoot (Screen write) function works for maybe 3 or 4 times only and then nothing happens when I get out my pen and press it, so I have to restart the device to make it work for more 3 or 4 times!!!
2. I cannot find a good way to root after upgard it to lollipop. :crying: :crying:

1) Hmm... haven't seen that problem before. Try installing some apps from the play store that allow you to screetshot.
2) How did you previously root? I rooted my LG-D415 Android Version 5.0.2 using Kingroot.

Make sure you have done a clean installation of the ROM. By clean installation I mean make a full wipe, from TWRP (a custom recovery), go to Advanced Wipe and select everything except your external SD, in case you have one installed. Then flash the latest Lollipop ROM via Odin. The latest stable LP ROM I found to be OF3, so get that from sammobile.com.
And root can't be more easy. When you are done flashing the stock ROM via Odin just place this zip on your phone, https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip, reboot to recovery, which will be TWRP (and after flashing the stock ROM you will have to reflash TWRP, cause flashing stock ROM always installs the stock recovery), and just install the zip from there, done.

FYI people, you don't have to root to enjoy this hotspot mod but you do have to flash twrp recovery. The previous method with dialer code doesn't work anymore with the new MM software. But if you just want a quick and simple solution to achieve permanent unlocked native hotspot then visit my thread in the link above. Make sure you also download the correct version of TWRP and odin flash it first.

*Note: If you don't have the abd or Samsung drivers you will have to download those using an adb tool from xda and kies from Samsung.
From your computer:
1. Google "TWRP.ME". In the upper right hand corner click on devices and select yours. Download the latest and greatest IMG file.
2. Google "Odin xda" and download the latest and greatest of that.
3. Unzip the file. Find and right click Odin and run as administrator. Click the AP slot and load up the TWRP file that was in the zip.
4. Turn your phone off and restart it holding *Volume down +home button+power button* This will take you to "download mode". Plug it in and press volume up.
5. Press start. AS SOON AS IT FINISHES AND TRIES TO REBOOT PULL YOUR BATTERY AND LEAVE IT OUT FOR 30 SECONDS.
6. Restart by pressing *volume up+home+power* this should take you to the TWRP recovery. Perform a backup to external.
Now to root...
1. Google "Chainfire Autoroot". Go to his site and find your model number and download the zip file.
2. Unzip the file. Find and right click Odin and run as administrator. Click the AP slot and load up the CFAutoroot file that was in the zip. (this will take a minute so...)
3. Turn your phone off and restart it holding *Volume down +home button+power button* This will take you to "download mode". Plug it in and press volume up.
4. Wait for the please wait text to go away and click start.
Those steps will root your phone.
Shoot me a PM if you have any questions.

Didn't you say you are using a Note 5? This is the Note 4 forum and tx_dbs_tx makes ROMs for the Note 4 which should NOT be flashed on a Note 5. He did make a port of the Note 5 but this should still only be flashed on a Note 4 and NOT a Note 5
Thank you for the clarification.

I tried this by just installing twrp via odin, and then flashing the PD1 hotspot mod. This did not change the APN type settings to append to .dun.
Do I have to install your ROM first, and somehow select "no root" for this to work? I was hoping to not have to root my note 4, but will if that is the only way to regain the hotspot.
Thanks for any help, or clarification on the best way to do this.

But I am having troubles with downloading "https://github.com/beaups/SamsungCID/blob/master/samsung_unlock" from step one. And also do I boot my device in fastboot, bootloader, or what since I can't get on my phone?
I want something like this: http://www.galaxys5update.com/unbri...00a-soft-brick-fix-restore-to-stock-firmware/ ... "Step 5a. Flash the AP file Only without losing user data"
So I won't loose system data for apps, wifi, downloads, etc.
So can I upgrade the device using Odin without loosing data since I am still have stock rom on the device and not a custom one?

I would ask in the unlock thread, I don't have a Verizon s so I can't speak for any of the processes at all.

All fixed I downloaded the stock firmware from sammobile that the phone was running and it did not wipe the phone... So everything was recovered!

PE1 May security update

Screenshots attached!
Hopefully not a locked bootloader either!
So it was just a monthly security update? My sprint s5 got the same update whit the same ending in the build number and same changelog...

In the past it seemed like the security updates were only like 160- 180mb, this one is pretty big for just a security, WiFi, update...seems odd but you never know. Anyone able to just upload the update?
Beat me to it. Anyway, it does list Wifi and stability fixes. Hoping it will fix the random reboots. Downloading now.

Random reboots? Sounds like a hardware issue.. I had the same thing. Few weeks later phone totally bricked.

Nope, phone has been solid except for these partial reboots for the last two months. It started right after the first MM update (PC1). Hasn't gotten worse or better. Hoping this is the "stability improvement" that is getting fixed.

I've also had random reboots ever since Marshmallow/PC1. I ended up trying to isolate the problem by starting from factory reset and installing apps in small groups to determine where there was an incompatibility. So far, I've found that the Amazon appstore is definitely one source of instability. The other one for me seems to be the app AnyMote. I'm hoping that PE1 somehow fixes these...
Able to root with PE1? Is current versions of twrp working with PE1?
Interesting to see what this does to the development of the note5 ports currently being worked on..
?

Yep, root is good with PE1. Able to odin latest TWRP and install chainfire su 2.74 to achieve root with no problem. I even odin back down to PD1 without a single problem.
What are the potential security risk by not taking these updates? Since having root wont allow you to do the update and having to flash stock software to take the update is a bit of a pain.
How?

whats the best way to get PE1? OTA? So to achieve this I would have to odin back to PD1 stock and wait until I get the update correct?

Yep, that's exactly what I did.
I am on PE1 what is the best way to root and tether this? Thx
Running PE1 the battery life seems better..
The lock screen toggling via power button works consistently unlike PD1...
So far it seems good...

Went to flash TWRP through ODIN and got a message- custom recovery blocked by A/L. Any solution please?
Mine will no longer check for up-dates.. manually or Auto...
Last checked was 4/30/16
When I tap Download Updates manually, nothing happens.. Even Long press.
I am on PD1
Any suggestions???
Battery pull and a few re-starts still wont let me check for updates.
thanks to all who reply

I believe this means you had the Reactivation Lock setting enabled before your odin. Can you get to settings and see if it's turned on? Im not sure where it is though, maybe security.

Finally [after about 2 years], i unrooted off of BOB7 to take updates to marshmallow, and of course, i get something that's been out for only hours i think, lol.
So, would you mind me asking, are those the only steps?* Odin latest TWRP then install (thru play store? ) su 2.74?
I'm assuming I'd need to stay stock until a PE1 rom is made. How would i go to PD firmware and stay rooted after* if wanting to flash some custom roms?
Any help/advice appreciated.

I'm on stock PD1 with TWRP 3.0.2.0 rooted with SuperSU 2.74 xposed-alt-v83-sdk23. Currently my Android Pay is working...like used it and made a purchase and everything, twice! Anyone know if it still works after PE1 update?
