Check out this video. You can change from the the Gallery App, choose set as wallpaper and you will get the option for whatsapp profile picture.

Tomi
Hi,
above method can change only own profile picture; to also enable group profile picture better download "customizable gallery" from play store and that will solve all the issue. Hope this may be helpful to you.

Like samsung and other phone we can not set from whtsapp our profile picture.. For that we have to go gallery and then choose the image..
Something like long process.

2.1 Solutions!

There's a lot of threads about issues after the 2.1 update, but not too many solutions... Thought I'd start a thread and collate all the solutions as a quick reference.
DO NOT POST PROBLEMS OR QUESTIONS HERE, JUST SOLUTIONS TO COMMON PROBLEMS IF YOU KNOW THEM
Example (and please use the exact same format if you want me to collate them into the start of this thread)
PROBLEM: Brief Title for Problem
DESCRIPTION: A more detailed description of what exactly the issue is
SOLUTION: Simple solution on how to solve the issue - include steps where required
AND NOW THEM ALL TOGETHER
PROBLEM: 'Wrong' Contact Pictures
DESCRIPTION:The 'social' phonebook means all my contact pics are facebook pics instead of the ones I want.
SOLUTION: When you edit a contact, you'll have a number of headers for where the information is taken (Gmail, Facebook, etc.) - if you tap the Gmail picture, you can (a) select whatever pic you want, and (b) select 'set as contact picture'
PROBLEM: Facebook Contacts in Phonebook
DESCRIPTION: Instead of just proper contacts in my phonebook, I've now got 400 facebook contacts in there too.
SOLUTION: Tap the 'contact groups' icon up in the top left of the phonebook (image of 3 heads) - now, under display contacts, tap the Facebook groups and unselect 'all contacts'
PROBLEM: Can't restore contacts
DESCRIPTION: I've tried a number of time to restore my contacts, but there's nothing in my phonebook... strangely my missed calls and messages show contact names.
SOLUTION: Not sure if this is and actual solution, but try tapping the 'contact groups' icon up in the top left of the phonebook (image of 3 heads) - now, under display contacts, tap the Gmail group and select 'all contacts'
Edit - you might still find that not all of your contacts are showing up - strangely I checked again, and the option changed from 'all contacts' to a large list of different groups under google contacts - just tick all the boxes
PROBLEM: Duplicated details in contact
DESCRIPTION: After restoring my backup, all my contacts have their phone numbers, etc. duplicated - e.g. 2 x their mobile, 2 x their email, etc.
SOLUTION: This is the result of multiple attempts to restore your contacts (per above) - delete all your contacts, restore ONCE, then if they're not showing up, tap the 'contact groups' icon up in the top left of the phonebook (image of 3 heads) - now, under display contacts, tap the Gmail group and select 'all contacts'
PROBLEM: Low Resolution Contact Pictures
DESCRIPTION: After restoring my contacts, all the pictures are low resolution
SOLUTION: Backup seems to only backup the a low res image - you'll need to re-do your contact pics. Open up and edit your contact - you'll have a number of headers for where the information is taken (Gmail, Facebook, etc.) - if you tap the Gmail picture, you can (a) select whatever pic you want, and (b) select 'set as contact picture'
Edit: Full screen image (like when someone calls you) doesn't seem to display quite as good images as in 1.6, but this method certainly improves them (especially on the contact details screen) - I'll update if I find more info
Edit - apparently, there's no real solution: http://phandroid.com/2010/04/13/images-look-blurry-on-android-2-1-theres-a-reason-for-that/ - you can use facebook contact, which will give you a better image, but it might not be the one you want, and it also doesn't seem to connect to 3rd party apps either
PROBLEM: No Auto Brightness
DESCRIPTION: I can't set Auto Brightness anymore - only fixed levels of brightness
SOLUTION: Auto Brightness seems to have moved to the Power Control widget - there is a brightness setting which has 3 modes - Low, Auto, Bright - toggle through, and leave it on the one after Low - that's Auto. Note, it doesn't seem to be as good as it used to be in 1.6, but at least it's still there... The plus here is that Auto never went as bright or as dark as you might have liked, so now really, you have more control...

helpful, thanks.
Absolutely Brilliant!

This doesn't work because as soon as you call someone the image that appears is still in very low resolution, it's just a bunch of pixels, however you can "fix" this by using Facebook picture instead, but sometimes some facebook pictures can be a tree, a car o a bottle of beer , and it's not nice to phone a beer...
Thanks for that had the same issues

Yeah, I noticed that just earlier... The pictures aren't as good as in 1.6, but whatever you restore is going to be twice as bad - I guess it's more of a partial solution...
Thanks, very helpfully!

u call this solution? u might kidding
piece of crap this SE, android sync method...how can we get so bad proggrammings in 21centauri..eh
Thanks for trying to help with some solutions. Regarding the low-res contact photos, I think it is a disgrace that SE let this software out with such a low-quality 'feature' as this. It is such a backward step from 1.6, and I cannot see why they would have done it. Some people have said that it was to speed up the calling functions, but I find that the slight lag with incoming/outgoing calls is still there, and no different from 1.6. I don't find the lag a problem, and would far rather have decent quality (not even high quality, just not the ridiculous circa mid-90s) image we have now.
Thats no SE Problem thats a Google Problem and this Problem is in Android 2.2 too. Google it you will find alot Posts from Users with Samsung,HTC,Motorola and all.

Emailing video clip

Anyone have any idea how to send a video clip off of this phone? It doesn't show up with MMS and even if I click to do an attachment in an email it only shows pictures and not the video.
Video is unfortunately not part of this version of the os when sending mms. in order to send a video try sending it as an e-mail or better yet make sure the upload to skydrive is checked in the settings -> picture and video settings. Thsi way you send the link to someone automaticlly from your skydrive public album.

CM7 And "Me" in messages

Hello everyone I have tried searching for this but cant not find it. the one link that I did find returned a dead page.
What I am asking today is in reguards to CyanogenMod 7 and messaging. I text a lot and find it annoying that the "Me" in messages does not have my picture in it. Before I went from stock everything to CM7 I had the ability to edit me contact card and this allowed my pic to display for my messages sent. But now I can not find out how to do. I was told to do Settings > Call Settings > Additional Settings > My Phone Number but I do not see additional settings.
While it is not a big thing it does annoy me as my OCD kicks in and I see received pics of the contact but an android bot as my pic. Can anyone help me out with this.
BTW here was the dead thread link

I'm not sure if this is the right way or what, but it's pretty easy. Just create a new contact using your own phone number. Name the contact 'Me'. Then select a picture of yourself to set as the photo for the 'Me' contact. Save your changes. Your picture should now appear in the text mesaging threads as the Me contact.

I will try this to see if it will work, but that will last till my OCD kicks in when I try to make my contacts look better LOL.
Will post back if it does/does not work.
Edit- Thanks k2buckley that did it. Appreciate the help with that. But having "Me" in my list will bug me in a bit I am sure. Stupid OCD LOL

It should work. I use that method on every AOSP rom I've ever used, because I also hate seeing the blank spot on the 'me' contact. Should work no problem.

My text has my gmail picture....I think I uploaded it to latitude once and it got associated with gmail.
Anyhow, you should be able to add a contact pic to your gmail and it will show up.
My phone also has the same picture in my contacts where I have put all my information for myself. I didn't associate it with this contact, so it must be done through Gmail.

That is how I did it as well. Works great.

Cannot add pictures to my contacts

I am running a bone stock 6P and when I add contacts in my phone I cannot add a contact picture. I hit the edit button on the contact and it asks me to take photo or choose photo which will then bring up the camera or my photo album but every time I select a picture and hit ok nothing happens. Any idea's?
I am the only one with this issue?
Probably. Works for me.
idk but I suddenly have the same prob.
Yea this problem was faced by me too in my Galaxy Grand duos... The problem was letter resolved when I got a stability update.. Check for a system update. Maybe that'll help.
The only solution for me so far has been to log into my Google account on my pc and add the picture to the contact there.
