Abnormally low read/write performance with Samsung MicroSD card - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I bought this SD card: http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/memory-cards-hdd-odd/memory-cards/micro-sdhc-pro/MB-MGCGB/EU
Running A1 SD Bench I got speeds of 12MB/s and 3.8MB/s when it should be close to 70MB read and 20MB/s writes.
Any reason why it could be running that slow other than a faulty drive? Is there something I can do do improve this?

so i hope you, if just find a solution please share with us

No because my SD card which is working without a problem with my note 4 (8gb Class 2) is also a Sandisk Card , also Many of other users has reported similar issues with other brands as well (with class 10 and U1 SD cards) , even some of brands are unfortunately Samsung

i have 128 gb san disk with no problems about read and write , it is triple faster than my phone memory ! Cheers

Not sure what speed you can expect to get with your micro sdcard.
However I do know that the maximum speed quoted 70 / 20 will only be achieved on devices with UHS I support.
To the best of my knowledge no smartphone has this interface support, you will only get these speeds on a device with UHS I support such as some cameras

Interesting. Could anyone using a Samsung EVO or Pro microSD with Note 4 run A1 SD Bench and share the results?

I just got my Samsung EVO 64GB card today. A1 bench shows read speed as 304MB/s and a write speed of 26MB/s. Can't be right.
Edit: After doing the accurate test with reboot it's 40/20. Sounds about right.

Ok, since i tell that money is not a problem.
I want to know what is the biggest and fastest Micro SD card available for the HTC Touch Pro.
Anyone can tell if have tried the 32 Gb SDHC Class 10??? or higher (if exists 64gb)...
Thanks in advance...
class 6 16GB is the fastest/biggest you can get.
Kingston has a 16GB, class 10 micro sd card. Is there any limit in class that the phone can handle?

LMAO i couldnt stop laughing when i read this.
SD CARD LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!
rofl i lol'd too. im sure it was an oversight or something. anyway im still curious if the device can even use the whole transfer rate offered by a class six. Can anyone confirm that this phone can utilize a class 6 to its full potential?
*so i read up that wiki. according to that then there is no point in getting anything over a class two since the top speed it hits with a class 6 is .5 MB/s and the class 2 bandwidth limit is 2Mb/s*
sooooo any thoughts on this?
sandisk does have a 32gb microsd.... but it's class 2 and $200
http://sandisk.com/products/mobile-memory-products/sandisk-microsdhc
not in stock now though.... it was a bit back....
neato, but if it was in stock wouldn't it have the same performance on our phone as a class 6? From what i wrote earlier, i believe our speed is capped by a hardware limitation so 4+ class speeds wont help?.
id really like an expert to confirm this.
I would also like an experts advice on this matter... I am stuck with a 2g micro card and am looking to buy the biggest one I can stick in my phone.
Thanks for any input.

Depends on how soon you want it. Also, I presume you are using a similar device to the TP... I was in a BestBuy recently and they had an 8gb microsd in-stock! The only place I was able to get a 16gb microsd(class 2), was online unfortunately. Of course, I did see a few 32GB usb sticks for under $100 and grabbed one up, several months ago...
Also, as physical proof that a 16gb card will work/be recognized:

Does the class count?! This week i would like to buy a 16GB class 10 card?! will it work? i'm not interested in the speed. im just interested in it to work in the phone 4 downloading movies over the internet & such...
save money, get a slower class. 16 gb works.
Let's bring this thread up to date now in 2016 I can confirm 128gb and 200gb micro sd cards work in my T7272.

70 euro
It is very new so the price is high. And it is one of the fastest cards that exist.
can you run a benchmark to see if the note can utilize the speed of the card ?
not bad for 70euros. but adding this to the note, will easily give us technically 80GB. nice purchase. i wonder when that will be available here in asia.
But does the Note 10.1 support UHS-I? Because if not this would be for us just a super expensive regular 20 MB/s card...
Recived this card today. Sd tools shows 12.6/18.8 w/r speed. In comparison against sandisc ultra 32Gb class 10 7.1/13.3 . I don't know if sdtools shows real digits or not.

Used SD speed increase app. Best result @3072 is 13.2/18.8 .
Gallery is very slow.
My resume : if you plan to use this card only inserted in Note 10.1 it's not worth it to pay $92.

Even a SanDisk Ultra Class 6 can give you up to 30mbps. I use a San Disk Ultra Class 10 & have never come close to hitting 30mbps speeds on anything other than DSLR. For phone or tablet, stick with class 6 or 10 if cheap. Otherwise, you are just paying for something you aren't using anyway.
BTW, The new 32Gb SanDisks are 90mbps.
I got sandisk UHS 1 32gb on black Friday for $15

For reliability I would trust Samsung more than Sandisk. Waiting for pricing to come down to earth.
Have the same card. using it as internalsd with swap sd script
Note 10.1 DOES NOT SUPPORT UHS-1, so buying such card for tablet is pure waste of money.

How do you know this? The support is in the kernel, and IIRC any newer controller should be able to- there's hardware older than our Notes which definitely does.

Sandisk Class 4 Speed differences... Even on the same card...?

If there is anyone, who owns Sandisk MicroSD 32GB CLASS 4 card and runs Windows Phone 7.5/7.8 on it, could you please post the benchmark results?
The actual is only CLASS 4 one. I've found, that some Class 2 owners have speed of 7-8MB/s in WP Bench.
I've unpacked a Class 4 one. On the first time I run test it showed about 7MB/s, but after phone reset/installing dualboot etc speed decreased to 4MB/s
Is it normal?
Many thanks for any advices!
i have class 2 and never have better results than 8 MB/s
I think I mean your post with WP Bench
I was talking about your benchmark post with 9.1MB/s result. The problem is I've got a two cards, which work TERRABLE (PATRIOT class 10 which gets <1MB/s in WP Bench and Transcend Class 6 which gets <2MB and freezes on some roms). I've ordered an class 2 Sandisk card, but the shop delivered me a class 4 Can't decide should I put it back and continue seeking Class 2 or it will be the same speed with it too... I've found a few posts with SanDisk 32GB Class 4 users and it seems to be slower than class 2.
Bit on the first time I've puted the card on my phone the speed was ~7mb/s. And I can't even say that the card was empty. I installed wp benchmark and put few gigs of music on it.
Strange test results...?
Right now, after I set dualboot the speed is constantly about 4.03MB/s. Is there explanation for this strange speed decrease?
Maybe re-formatting or even reseting phone acts somehow on the card? Maybe it's any kind of software bag?
Regarding a speed test of my Sandisk 32 GB Class 4 card with WP Bench Free see my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36920228&postcount=174
I (also) noticed that my phone slowed down. But I'm not sure if the card is to blame. Previously I had two partitions on the card, a small one for Android and the large one for WP7.5. In December I repartitioned the card with three partitions, two rather small ones for Android (to get newer and faster ROMs working - "NativeSD") and the third one for WP7.8 (my main system). But Windows Phone feels a lot slower now. The reason might be 7.8 being slower or it is caused by the three partitions or maybe even by the card getting slower, I don't know.
But I'm also interested to get a faster WP (again), so I asked other people to return their benchmark results with WP Bench Free in order to have some comparison and maybe a reason to buy a specific new card (32 GB or 64 GB, not smaller). Sadly no one published any result so far.
P.S.: With 7.5 WP Bench Free also returned approx. 4 MB/s, just like now, but the system felt way snappier compared to 7.8.
Some practical test results
Here are some practical test results from WP Bench and Android SD Tools (Sandisk 32GB Class 4, year 2012):

It's eMMC 4.5, the LG G4 got eMMC 5.1 and the Galaxy S6 UFS 2.0 (read up to 350 MB/s write up to 150 MB/s).
Anyway, my Redmi Note 2 is faster than my Note 4 (feel much faster) and works smoother than a S6, cuz you don't need so fast memory in a Smartphone.

Transcend 32GB Premium UHS-I Class 10:

Something's not okay, the memory card's package looks original though.
SD Insight shows that the card is SanDisk SL32G.

Edit: I entered the serial number in Transcend Verification tool on their webpage and seems like it's legit.
What could be the problem in that case?

If it hasn't been discussed in another thread (none as far as I know) it doesn't support UHS-I class 3 cards according to ZTE Germany Facebook support
I find it generally hard to find this particular information for most phones. Most if not all flagship smartphones brag with UHS-I compatibility but most of them are only compatible with class 1 which doesn't bring any benefits over standard class 10 cards according to my knowledge
I tried both 200 gb and 128 gb sandisk on my axon 7 global version and both make my phone too warm and of course quick battery drain . I read somewhere that actually supports only sdhc which means not more than 32 gb . Is that really true ? I have a huge music collection with lot high res files and need lot of space . Help please !
I have seen that San Disk cards have been giving people problems and that ZTE recomends the Samsung Evo Plus line.

If that's true that is kinda lame, do you still have source to that claim I couldn't find it easily on Google. And to back up what you're saying yes UHS-1 class 1 and standard class 10 are basically the same thing, in fact my SD card has both labels on it.

I'm using a Samsung UHS-1 class 1/ standard class 10 of 64GB and it works perfectly fine.
Confirm 256 Gb MicroSD Card
I called ZTE and they insisted that my Axon 7 would only support 128 Gb, class 10. (They only read their internal specifications, which are out of date.)
Here is an article about the increased storage support:
ZTE Axon 7 update B25 bumps SD card storage limit to 256GB
So, I purchased a "Samsung (MB-ME256GA/AM) 256GB 100MB/s (U3) MicroSDXC EVO Select Memory Card with Full-Size Adapter" from Amazon for $43. This supports Class 10, U3, and 4K HD, hopefully to be faster in my next phone.
I plugged it in and is registers the full 256 Gb of storage.
I am running ViperOS 6.7, Android V9 and very happy with this ROM, although it hasn't been updated since 09/2019.
