How do you mean improve? I can take a guess at what you mean. If your talking about how the scanner takes a few tries then you need to re-do the input scan. When you do, start normally swiping down but start rotating your finger. Also add a little roll to get the sides of your print too. The scanner should recognize your print quicker in fewer tries. Samsung's implementation of the FP scanner is just awful in my opinion anyways.

As the poster above stated, use some variation when setting up the scan. I know some people set up more than one finger and preferred that way. I just use my thumb and it always opens for me on the first try, unless my hand is wet from a glass or something.
Anybody with Lollipop know if you can use the fingerprint to unlock the phone when encrypted yet?

Yes you can. Both internal and sd card storage.

I registered the same fingerprint three times, 95% of the times takes just one pass, the other 5%, takes two passes

Fingerprint scanner just sucks!!!

Today I finally had enough and went back to pattern. The scanner seems to get worse over time. Been using since day one and I typically get it after 2nd try, but now I'm having to wait 30 secs to get in. I've scanned my thumb every direction possible.
that is exactly the problem mate,
stop scanning your finger in every possible direction....
use only one direction and use it in that direction.....
ppl using it the 'normal' way get 100% succes.

If you're trying to unlock while holding the device with one hand it'll never work. The phone is huge and it's almost impossible to swipe correctly with the correct direction with one hand. Either hold the phone and unlock with your index finger of the other hand (this is the best setup for 100% success) or just go back to pattern (what I ended up doing). To be honest the iPhone set up is a million times better.
Multiple threads on this. For some people it works, for others like me its a nightmare. You will find many people trying to convince you that you are doing it wrong, but you're most probably doing it right. I hate the fingerprint scanner for unlocking my device, because it just takes too long. I have my device unprotected and use private mode to hide naked pictures of the wife

Have you set up the fingerprint scanner in the exact same way as shown in the video in my topic here?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/to-fingerprint-scanner-bad-inaccurate-t2919453
My fingerprint scanner is very accurate and i have success about 95% of all times i'm using it.
And guess what?
You can even swipe upwards with your registered fingers after you have registered them downwards. Here is my own video that shows that.

You may be onto something here....didn't know you could go up. I just changed my right thumb to that. Seems to be working. What I have discovered after reading these posts...You have to scan finger SLOW....otherwise...fail fail fail. For the last 4 days I've had a pattern on which i am OK with, but I feel like I am selling myself short.
I've found a pretty good success rate by using my right thumb and swiping as if I have something like gum stuck to it and I'm using the home key to get it off my finger. It sounds weird, but it works better than a simple swipe. Doesn't take longer, just a lot more reliable.
That makes sense. Do you guys think the way apple has done it is patented to them? Samsung had to play around with the iPhone and see how nice touch ID is before they released this. My GFs S5 is equally as bad.

Direction Lock - New way to unlock your phone (Hidden feature on the Galaxy S6)

With direction lock, you can unlock your phone by drawing a pattern on it...pretty cool I think

Considering I'll be coming from a G2, it's a far cry from knock on. I will miss knock on more than anything on my G2 I'm sure. It might break the boredom of just swipe to unlock, but leaves more room for error and will take longer.

Knock on was very cool, pressing the home button once with the fingerprint reader is cooler.
Well, I'm getting an S6, so I'm certainly willing to give it a shot.
After activating the direction lock feature I have run into a very serious issue. An OTA software update came in from AT&T after which the phone did a reboot. I cannot unlock the phone as it no longer recognizes the direction lock pattern and sadly, it is requiring that specific unlock method for the first unlock after reboot. Samsung tells me there is no way around this except a full master reset which the data loss would be devastating! I cannot locate any software that will pull the data via USB either as the model is an S6 Edge SM-G925A which is not offered via FonePaw, Phone Doctor or Mini Tool. Since the direction lock is located in the Accessibility menu the "unlocking" methods don't work either as the values are apparently in a different location. I seriously need some help with this issue. Losing all the critical data from my last backup to now is beyond stressing me out as it is vital as well as having some very sentimental items. If I could just find a way to either pull the data or explore the phone via third party software I would be one very happy man!! Please, if there is anyone that has an idea, I am willing to try just about anything to prevent a factory reset! Thank you very much in advance!! And yes, I have searched and read and searched and read..... over 5 hours worth of time spent online trying to get this solved... BTW, the phone does not have USB debugging enabled and is not rooted. Just stock Android 7.x

Face Unlock , few tips that might help you.

We all know it can be a bit of pain while on the Tube and you quickly want to unlock your phone and the Iris or face scanner don't work first time so you painfully need to look behind the phone to find the finger print scanner, but this is all about muscle memory.
I'm in the UK and just a few hours a go i got an update, i found myself having to register my Face again as it was not properly working. Also I'm either going crazy or completely missed it, i now find that under the Face unlock settings there is a "Faster recognition" setting that can be turned on. Not sure if this is new or it was there already. If in case you missed this i must say, make sure you turn this on, it changed the Face unlock feature completely for me, at least 90% of the time it works compared to 50/50 before the update. So make sure you look for updates if you just got your new S8 and turn the "Faster Recognition" setting on, as this might make a difference.
Another tip and this is my personal opinion, i found it better to actually register your face as close as possible. When registering your face, ignore the "20cm" it tells you to do, make sure you get close enough so that your face covers mostly the screen but not 100% of it, i found this to be better in normal day use (pulling your phone out of your pocket and looking down on it) instead of having to bring the phone up and close to your face. Another tip would be give your face a little wiggle, simply nod a tiny bit left and right while staring at the front camera, i found that this can help most of the times when the phone is taking more time than necessary to recognize your face.
If you have any other tips make sure to leave it below as this can help new users not having the best experience with this feature.
*I can tell some people do not have "Faster Recognition" option available. Just hold on , you should be getting an update soon.
it's possible to add mod to support multiple face recognition or iris

Is there a way to stop smart phones scanning your fingerprints such as the p10?

i am due a upgrade i Am thinking of getting the huawei p10 but i am put off getting a new phone because of the finger print scanners that are featured on nearly all smartphones now.i know theres probably a setting on the phone where you can turn it off but i dont trust that it will be completly disabled.is there a way of completely disabling the fingerprint scanner or a easy way to cover it so it doesnt work

never enroll any finger print on it then...just use PIN or pattern for unlock
F.P Scanners are a choice not a necessity on any smart phone, just dont activate "Enroll" it during any devices first setup...
I dont use them either, never have, but the Hauwei FP scanners are so good,, that Im thinking of giving it a go
Is there a reason for not using the FP scanner?
Just wondering.....no offence.

Fingerprint speed.

Hi there.
The fingerprint open time is sucks with G6. Is there anyway to improve it. ? Make it quicker.
Maybe disabling the animation will increase it.. or something like that.
yeah, disable system animations under developer settings its a better idea, other idea that i already did on mine and in other phone that i hae with fingerprint is: register only 2 fingers, the more used one make 3 times registering that and the other for emergency times (wen you damage the finger number one or something like that) register 2 times, since the device can save up to 5.
i can guarantee you make this little things will improve best your experience with the phone overall.
before registering the fingers make sure your fingers are clean, supa dupa clean i mean, and the fingerprint scanner too.
