[Q] GT-i9506 Safe root - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
My S4 got lollipop this weekend, (I9506XXUDOA6) and i want to root it without tripping knox. Is there any way to do this? Ive tryed towelroot or kingoroot but nothing worked
thanks in advance

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't believe you can downgrade the Android 5.0.1 modem to an earlier version and root using Towelroot. CF Autoroot still works, but it will trip Knox.

Yes thats the case.. I dont want to trip knox and i wont try to downgrade the modem.. Ok maybe patience is what i need
Im just facing some curious lags on my phone that have no sense... For example in the recent apps, on facebook, on messenger, and on swiftkey keyboard.. But i have to admit that battery is at its best. On kitkat with normal use, the phone was dead for about 20 hours, and now on lollipop for about 2 and a half days i guess? Does anyone know how to fix those lags or minimize them?

My main concern, and something I'll have to do further research into, is whether I'd lose my SIM unlock on an upgrade. I used RegionLock Away to unlock my S4 after repairing it. The unlock survived the restoration of Android 4.4.2, but I have my concerns as to whether it would survive an upgrade to 5.0.1. Especially as downgrading the modem apparently is not possible.
It might simply be easier for me to find a custom Touchwiz ROM and install it instead, but there aren't many of them as of yet.

Can anyone confirm that there is no way to saferoot a s4 lte-a with official lollipop?

[Q] Should I update from 4.3 JB to 4.4.2 KK ?

Hello
I recently got my S4 i9505. I'm planning to root it
I have Android version 4.3
I used to flash costum roms on my s2 but I'm not really planning to do much flashing on my S4. not soon anyway
So as I connected the phone to Kies to make sure the drivers were downloaded so I can proceed with rooting
Firmware update popped up
I'm not sure what the best option for me now.
Should I root now and then I'd be able to flash a costume KK rom? and are there any stable ones that are better than the stock?
Can I use kies to update my rooted phone?
Maybe I should stick with JB 4.3? Which one is better 4.3 or 4.4.2?
I remember facing some issues when I update my s2 back. So I searched for the KK Update for the s4 and some people weren't so happy with their KK update
I know that doesn't represent the majority but still it could happen to me
So I confused myself
What is your advice to me?
sorry for the long post
Also I have an extra question What is KNOX? and do I need it?

First, the most problems in 4.4.2 are fixed, so if you flash the officical, latest firmware of your country you shouldn't have any problem.
An important thing: if you flash a custom rom, your warranty will be set 0x1, that means, you lost your garanty if you flash a custom rom, that's the so called KNOX. You can use knox like a second system on your phone, with all secure data in it, you can only access with a passwort and all datas are locked without this passwort.
Root your phone after the software update if you want to root it.

Root without tripping KNOX ?

Just bought Note 3 Neo and was thinking of upgrading to Kitkat (Official via OTA), but afterwards was also thinking of rooting so that to enable app save to SD card. Now, after seeing this I am **** scared! as I am not much savy with rooting and stuff and I fear I might activate knox.
So maybe I can use some inputs from you all.
PS: There is no Knox software anywhere it seems.. any idea how to confirm if my phone indeed having knox? Running Android jellybean 4.3.

[Q] Upgrading to KK and using towelroot?

Has anyone used the towelroot method to root? I'm still on JB firmware (BTU MK2) with root and knox 0x0, im wanting to upgrade to KK but im not sure of which course of action to take.
I'm thinking of installing a pre-June KK firmware but im not sure which one to install (region doesn't really bother me as long as it's english and not AUS). What do you guys think, any advice?
I'm tossing up between flashing the XSP NE4 rom or the BTU ND3 rom and then rooting using towelroot. Has anyone had any issues with these 2 roms, especially battery issues?
Towelroot preserved Knox 0 for me and it was pretty painless, twice already, MI7 to NF4 and now to NF9, so yes it works great at least for me. In my case battery sucked really bad after each update, but it was suggested to me to do full factory reset, as this supposed to work for many. Instead I decided to do exactly what I root my phone for, freeze/delete useless factory bloatware. It worked after first update, I'm still working on it after second, since I just did it couple days ago. On the other hand I'm not sure those updates are even worth the trouble, not much new that I can see, mostly internal stuff. Also originally I SIM and region unlocked my phone using Chainfire program, but I think all that is gone now and I don't think there is new unlock method, so I may regret this update in the future if I travel. And then there is this SD card nonsense that can show up with older programs, so frankly I don't know, choose your poison, but again, towelroot works fine, the question is: is it worth to upgrade.

I Want to Root, But The Cell Gods Will Not Allow It

I have a Note 3 (SM-N900W8 - Telus) that I have had for about 6 months. I have had an original Galaxy S and an S3 which were both rooted.
My phone updated to Lollipop so I had to forgo rooting since everything I read said I couldn't root 5.0 with the new bootloader.
I read about downgrading to Kitkat 4.4.2 so I could root and yesterday I took a chance and did it. I used the official 4.4.2 ROM from Sammobile
and using Odin, I flashed it and after a few tries, I got it to work. Now that I am back on Kitkat, I tried Kingroot (the APK) and it failed to root
my phone.
De La Vega now says it can not root 4.4.2, so my question is, is 4.4.2 rootable? I have read a lot about rooting and there are so many opinions
about what works and what doesn't that I wanted to post here to see if I could get a consensus about this. I know many people are rooted
on 4.4.2, but I just want to know the best way without tripping Knox.
Thanks,
Ian
Anyway, I used Kingo Root on my PC to root my Note 3 and it worked. Knox was not tripped and everything works properly.

How to reroot S5 G900H XXU1ANG3

Hey guys, I'm in a really tough situation here and would SERIOUSLY appreciate help I unrooted my galaxy s5 with the "full unroot" method in the Supersu app so that I could update my phone to lollipop but after I unrooted, i tried to update myphone via OTA but it keeps saying I can't because I modified the system in some way then I tried to reroot with kingroot but kingroot still can't root my phone so now I'm stuck without the update and no root! Please help me I want to reroot my s5 my specs are Samsung Galaxy s5 SM-G900H with XXU1ANG3 THANKS IN ADVANCE!
So which Android version are you on at the moment? KitKat or Lollipop? I had to install a custom recovery in order to be able to root Lollipop by just flashing SuperUser whereas in KitKat I would have had to use CF-Auto-Root (I'm not sure if it works on L) or TowelRoot, which unfortunately did not work on my device because I have the G900H as well.
EDIT: I just carefully re-read your post and it seems that you're still on Kit-Kat, so I would use CF-Auto-Root and ODIN in order to reroot the device. Does it trigger the knox alarm? I honestly have no idea but I sure hope it doesn't. I triggered mine because I couldn't care less about warranties in Egypt.
Okay thank you so much for your suggestion but I have another question. In case I soft brick my phone during the Odin process (which I have in the past) how do I flash it back to normal or something like that, I'm pretty new at these root methods :/ I have never installed a rom so I'm still on stock
