Yay Lollipop for Droid turbo... it sucks, tons of issues - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo General

I can't figure out how to edit the top post on this
Got the update this morning and hardly noticed. One thing to note is the Verizon messaging application crashes when trying to send and receive MMS forcing me to use the new version. I only noticed because of this glitch. It has other instabilities as well and my battery suffered a loss, I only get about a full days use where I used to have almost 2. Also the phone keeps going into Airplane mode. The camera can't record in 4k mode either...
The first is the phone before the update, the latter two are after... Still near stock with circles widget. I can take it in to get it replaced, but I don't want the Verizon tramp stamp...

Is it a soak version or official? Yours is droid turbo or just Moto Maxx?
Please update more for us, thanks!!!!

Sorry Droid Turbo, and no I don't do soak tests. I rely too heavily on the device for business. I have a feeling the update may get delayed due to this. Trust me there are issues, and it is the only reason I noticed I got the update at all. The Maxx is the non-Verizon version.

Can you post some screenshot of the 'about phone'?
Any new stuff on the lollipop for droid turbo?

Also, I think you can downgrade the phone to 4.4.4 by RSD, if you need the firmware.xml, I get send a link to you.

If you've got lollipop, then why is the usb debugging icon from kitkat? :/

It's an alternative launcher....

So you got the update this morning? And yet you already know how the battery life is? Yeah nothing to see here, move along. Let's lock this before it gets out of hand
The op is also the guy that claims to have got root working.. Then provided Nada...

There's actually no indicative that it's lollipop. It's just the Google Now launcher before and after the update (app update)
Everything looks as kitkat as it could. Sorry, pal. You didn't fool us

Hey look, I got the update too!!
Its called an updated Google Now Launcher (or any other up to date third party launcher for that matter), not Lollipop.

He also claimed that the soak test was over and Lollipop was rolling out two weeks ago. Of course, some of us know better.

Damn, the guy didn't even had the work to change the Kitkat debug logo on the status bar. I don't know if he's a bad pretender or really believed that his device was updated.

Go ask Motorola for yourselves, it is past the soak test, and is now rolling out in the first wave. As soon as my device gets the update I will post screenshots, but I did provide proof of the Motorola conversation screenshot. I didn't even edit out my name. I stand by my word.

I have it temporarily rooted, it loses root upon reboot, please wait until I can get a script working. I have been granted temporary root via camera. It grants temporary root via USB Debugging turned on with MTP and all that turned off. I have been able to remove VZW Bloatware... no luck on bootloader yet though.

I thought I would, but everything I used to use root for I can do non-rooted now. This has all that I want and more, only a few minor setbacks.
USB OTG for storage, and USB gamepad, keyboards etc...
Wireless HDMI
USB Tethering I use PDA Net
Sideloading applications, provided they are signed, and signing an unsigned application isn't that hard...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I can hide the apps (only drawback) but not uninstall them
I can't load kernel modules
Buttons are hardware so changing them is a non-issue
I can't change the battery icon
In fact up until the Lollipop update, the device has been fast, smooth, stable, and did everything I wanted. I think rooting and romming aside, and of course my next phone will be a developer phone, but I can live without root for a little while, this works well. I am off to the Verizon store to replace this so I can get a working Kit-Kat version, if I can get one without the Verizon trampstamp. If not I will just wait for a fix which will be coming shortly.

This guy is worthy of your ignore list. He first claims soak is over and Lollipop is rolling out weeks ago, then posts a launcher fake-out.
He claims he has root, then says he doesn't miss it? what a troll.

I already reported him as did a few others so hopefully they can deal with him. He must live a sad life, I really feel bad for him

All it took was 2 seconds looking at the wifi icon to see that this wasn't lollipop. I mean, come on, really? What's the point in this? I agree, definitely worthy of ignore list.

Depending on the oem the wifi icon may or may not change. If you look at the s5 for verizon that icon didnt change.

That's touchwiz you're talking about. It doesn't look like stock android anyway. The Turbo (like most Moto phones) is meant to be as close to stock as possible. I'd be willing to bet quite a bit that our wifi icon will be solid white when we get the update.

How the hell does he get a full day of use if he got the update this morning. Please close thread and stop giving him attention.

Stop the bull****, the wifi icons are from kitkat

[Q] Update.

Can someone please tell me how to go about updating my Xoom.
www.motorola.com/myxoom does not explain ****
i know this is probably a really stupid question, and i'm sure i'll get comments telling me to do research before posting.
but i did look for awhile, and from what i gather, a notification should have popped up on my xoom.
but one did not.
so how do i update the dang thing?
You wait, leave it connected to the internet (WiFi or 3g), it will eventually download and prompt you to install.
I just got mine, all I did was wait patiently.
sent from the honey moto
well i've been connected to wifi for about 6 hours now, and i'm always connected through verizon, but i haven't seen a single thing to do with an update.
They won't roll out the update to all devices at the same time. They have to do it in batches so they can minimise any update related problems should they occur.
So basically, my device is going to start downloading this update, without any previous consent by me, and will just prompt me to install once the update is downloaded?
Well, if it's like any other OTA update I've had it'll ask you before it starts to download. But yeah, essentially.
You will get an icon in your notification window near the clock. Click on it and it will tell you a system update is available, and give you 3 options; Just click 'Install Now' and watch it go and in 10 min (or less) you will be updated.
Sweet deal. Thanks guys... I was seriously starting to get very distraught.
I only owned an ios device before... but my girlfriend has a Captivate... so watching her be unable to get froyo for so long was starting to get me worried about my Xoom.

While yes that what I would do if it were mine (My Incredible is running CM7 RC2), she doesn't care much. Just as long as it works for her then she is happy.
Yeah, my wife's the same. Luckily she's on Froyo (Desire) so it's not really an issue. I would forcibly update it to Gingerbread if I thought she'd notice.
If your xoom isn't on verizon 3g will you get the update? Is it coming from verizon or from motorola and how do they no about my device? I set it up on wifi and never used the 3g setup nore do I have a verizon contract. Am I going to be hosed?!?

Your device periodically checks google's servers to see if there is update. Updates are released in batches so your device may not see an update until some time later. They can be downloaded off of wifi. Don't worry you're not hosed.

Funny stuff.. you gave consent when you left the check for updates boxed checked. Uncheck it problem solved you will not get the update.. since it reads as that is your preference. Others want the update you don't want the update #winner.

That happened on my Rooted/stock ROM Evo. Every now and then it pops up asking me to install an update that it just downloaded. Easy enough to simply decline, but pretty anoying though. At some point, I'll wander over to the Evo forum to see about (perhaps) pushing the new Cyanogen ROM, but im finding it hard to get excited about the phone these days...
Edit: Also, for those keeping score... My Xoom has not yet seen the update (5:17PM EST).

Just a heads up and REMINDER to go into Developer Options and turn OEM Unlocking back on after the OTA update because it had turned mine back off after sideloading.
I wish I had my laptop set up so I could remote in from work right now and begin downloading the image.

Why not just get it over with and UNLOCK it? Once you are unlocked, the state of that checkbox is irrelevant.

If you don't unlock, and leave your bootloader unlocked it can. If you have the check box checked then the bootloader remains locked. So if you get caught with a bad flash or anything else that causes a bootloop there is no way to gain access to the bootloader and run fastboot.
Not off to a great start. I've had my 3rd crash triggered simply by browsing to the reddit nexus 9 board. Now it appears to be on a forced cache erase after the consecutive crashes.
From this we can safely say nobody in Google pays any attention the forum moaning otherwise they might have noticed this issue.
Anyone get an OTA for the LTE version yet? They haven't posted the factory images which scares me a little that LTE might get left behind. The 5.0.2 links went up for both at the same time.

Mine's still running really warm and it's losing power over USB just by being on. I'm watching the battery drain simply from the screen idling on Google Now. Come the **** on Google, heat and battery drain should have been primary concerns.
Edit: Fortunately though, it seems like the entire device is running buttery smooth, which is literally a first on stock Android for me. Even my Nexus 6 hiccups without a custom ROM and that has the S805 and 1 more GB of memory.
Still no OTA for LTE on 5.01 -> 5.02 ...
What the hell is Google doing... firstly releasing almost beta Lollipop that on our Nexus have serious issues.. after waiting and being the last device to be updated still no upgrade to LTE which is more expensive and deserves at least same support.
If our model is left behind, I will surely not buy a Nexus device ever again.

LTE takes time. I wouldn't worry about it. I bet factory images are up within a day or two. I'm an LTE owner too, so I'm in the same boat. I'm just happy it actually started rolling out, as it started to look like it wasn't happening. This is a much bigger update than 5.0.1 -> 5.0.2
Updated this morning. So far so good
So far, it's definitely an improvement on performance but it remains to be seen with this is another cache-wipe factor or something. One of the first-impression fixes is that the light sensor seems to actually work now, while it was almost useless before.
I noticed the stock kernel is now on 2,5GHz high and that both cores are allways on, which i am not sure if it was happening on 5.0.x. I remember Franco noticing it on Nexus 6 5.1 too, so i guess it's a common practice by google to not turn cores off anymore.
Well so far so good. I never had major issues before. OTA side loaded fine. Did a factory reset to set up fresh. Now that everything is set up I'm just waiting for it to charge completely. It did get warm installing and updating everything, but no issues so far. Everything went smoothly.
There's a new apk named 'Who Am I?' That is disabled by default in this update. Turns out it's a widget that literally shows you the time and what your name is. Maybe it's for people with dementia or short term memory.
The way things have been going, most of us might have needed that widget by the time this update got to us if we'd waited much longer.

What I don't understand as an EU G4 user.
Why does T-mobile provide an update? Is it an update on their software? Or is LG involved?
Are there specific T-mobile apps on it?
I got the update this morning. To answer a couple of questions: No, no new apps. Dual window is still in the same place.
I dont notice anything right offhand different, but I havent done much with my phone yet this morning. Heres a capture of my info:

T-Mobile (as well as most carriers) ship out the updates after they've approved the changes. I would imagine this is to ensure that nothing being updated will affected their carrier's included Spam (I mean added software) or network connectivity. Last thing they want is their stores or customer service lines inundated with "help! The update broke my cellular connection!" claims.

So you could assume it has to do with their spam apps.

Could have to do with any number of kernel/lib/framework related items specific to carrier. Could be cellular radio related, WiFi related (wifi calling has been weird on my phone...doesn't want to seem to connect but I have awesome reception where I live, so I don't need it), etc...
Has your version had any updates in last week or two? If so, it might just be that the carriers are just now approving that update and pushing out to the devices.

That is true for certain phones. Like the Sony phones.
Sweet. Pretty quick imo. Look forward to seeing if it fixes some small issues I've been having (touch/tap misses and knock settings). I know knock settings are a longshot, but it would be nice to be able to configure them to each persons liking. I'd love to be able to turn off the "drag one finger down to quick view the clock/status"
I got my update overnight.
Phone updated without any warning or notice when I woke up this morning. CHecked the software version and it was the new one.
I havent noticed any differences as of yet.

Got the update and my phone starting shaking and jumping around on my desk. When the update was complete it turned into a Galaxy S6
Since they are already working on root and unlock I wouldn't take the ota just yet. Ive got a replacement on the way so once I get the update I'll take it on the one I'm returning and see if any changes. Ill also do a system dump on the new version too if necessary.

Installing the T-Mobile Software Update?

Hi guys, I haven't updated AT ALL. I remember reading somewhere here on XDA that someone had said, "Don't update if you're planning on rooting". But I really hate the software update popping up on me, and I'd like to have better battery from the second update T-Mobile sent out. What are your guys opinions? Will updating really affect any chances of me rooting my snapdragon S7 Edge? Since they update the 'security' of my device?
You need to update. If anything, you will only be able to unlock bootloader after an update where T-mobile allows to do so. They have previously stated they are working with Samsung on a solution. By not updating, you are only depriving yourself of much need software fixes.

Definitely a great update, but I personally update regardless. And if it f**** me, so be it. I'm just saying I've seen others say more NOT to if you plan on rooting. Which I do, but I'm just a dumbass like that! LoL
Think this update made my battery worse tbh. I've been at work for 4 hours now with light usage and it's at 77%. It didn't get that low with heavier usage in same time frame pre update. Haven't installed anything before or after.
I have installed the updates and the overall performance and battery have improved a lot.
All those who buy new phone when it is first released become beta testers. Simple as that.

I updated after updating my boyfriend's phone. Got jealous. Going to jump soon anyways. Just need $22 more in payments. This device, as stated by many others, is dead and really has no development future. By the time bootloader is unofficially or officially unlocked there will be barely any developers with the phone still. Just enjoy the software updates. Pretty sure you need them for the latest Good Lock to work anyways, which is awesome btw no more quick connect or S search wasting space in my notification bar.

Lol well...hopefully someone can find a way around :/ I love this device, I just can't stand that there's no way to root the snapdragon version of it

Tell me about it! I miss saving snaps, being able to see a snap forever, and having all the perks of being rooted lol. I've totally forgotten about Casper. How is it? Is it a good alternative to snappreffs? What's the main difference? Can you get caught using it? (Cause I think I've heard that sometimes it doesn't work and they'll get the notification that it screenshotted the picture).

It works pretty well....its a standalone app...no major special filters...but its stable and you download everything like snapprefs so it doesn't send notification of screenshot... Because in all actuality you don't screen shots....Casper logs you out of the snapchat app...so it cannot be used simultaneously... Its a good alternative until we get root access.

Thanks I'll try it out! Do we get to use the cool filters like faceswap and what not?

How to return to 6.0.1 S7 from 7.0, ODIN

Hi! I see so many different answers regarding how to return to an older firmware but most of them are for people who are rooted or have custom Roms? I updated to Nougat and encoutered some issues with critical apps I need and now want to return to the stock firmware the phone came with. Do I just download the firmware and run Odin with one of those guides?

Hmm, surprised there were no replies to this query. I just unwittingly took the Nougat update today and broke FoxFi.....and have found the same basic thing...that there are lots of instructions out there for downgrading, but none seem to specifically refer to non-rooted VZW users.
I downloaded API3 6.0.1 firmware but ODIN fails when trying to flash.
Am I just stuck on Nougat? If so, time to sell this piece of junk!

Why not use the debloat rom and native tethering? More than one way to skin a cat.
Well that doesn't really answer the question, but I did the root thing a few months ago and it was way too much of a performance and battery hit to stick with.
Trust me, if I could root, debloat, and have close to the same performance, I'd jump back on the train. This is the first android phone I've ever had that I used without root... Dating back to the HTC Hero! I hate Verizon and Samsung for locking this thing down... And believe this will be my last Samsung phone.
But for now, I need to know if, how to get back to MM

The Hybrid ROM is not-rooted. You get the performance of the stock kernel with a very well debloated system. It also has the hotspot fix implemented. The ROM even passes SafetyNet. I haven't downgraded to MM from Nougat, so I can't give any insight on that part.
Okay then... That's very interesting.... I haven't kept up with XDA since I gave up on root.... I know nothing about this hybrid rom option but will definitely be reading into this!
Thanks

I have it running on two phones and have no gripes.
I too updated to Nougat, and I'm not happy with it at all. The calendar app, dialer/contacts app, and notification shade are all worse IMO. I'm really interested in going back to stock Marshmallow. Can I use the Hybrid ROM to do that? IS there any way to go back to stock Verizon Marshmallow, but also NOT get the OTA update reminder in the notification shade?
Thanks for any insight/help on this!

The hybrid rom is just 7.0 debloated for vzw and tmo, but working on all us s7 flay/edge variants. The only way back would be odin if Samsung didn't lock the bootloader to not allow a downgrade
So....in other words I'm up the creek without a paddle. Maybe I'll just buy an unlocked one and sell mine.

The unlocked ones aren't bootloader unlocked, just carrier unlocked. So, when they get the N update, they will also most likely not be able to downgrade. I would suggest the hybrid and staying with the demon you have than to worry about root and associated apps, but to each their own. There are free themes that can help with things and apps galore to customize most of the phone.

well that's exactly how I felt the day the update attacked my phone........but I gave the hybrid ROM a chance.........and these folks here were right.......I'm actually far better off now than I was before the 7.0 update.
Granted, I speak from the perspective of an unlimited data user, and having the ability to wirelessly tether with the native app alone is HUGE for me.
But my phone does seem considerably faster and smoother now.
Had to figure out how to get things the way I wanted them....like to disable "heads up / peek" notifications.
I don't love the white look either....wish there was a dark mode, but that's really my only complaint. This switch to the hybrid ROM, IMO, is a big step up from my MM days with this phone. :good:

Does this change the colors of the notification shade and such? I don't use any stock launchers, icons, etc....I use Nova Launcher
-EDIT-
Okay so I went ahead and looked into it a little further....perhaps I will find one that gives me what I want.....a little skeptical of custom themes in general....boy how I miss the simplistic Holo days!
Thanks guys for the input! I'll consider the hybrid rom. It might be what I do. Can the hybrid rom have the contacts app and calendar app from the stock marshmallow rom? If I had those I could probably live with the rest.
Just thought I'd update people who come here looking to do the same thing. You CAN use ODIN to reinstall the stock 6.0.1 image even after you've updated to Nougat. You have to turn on the hidden "developer options" in the S7's settings first, but after that it works perfectly. Then you just need to disable the packages that download/notify you about the OTA update.
Thanks goes to CVertigo1, and everyone else here, for helping me out with this! So happy to be back on Marshmallow! Maybe in a few months they'll change the apps/UI back and I'll try Nougat again. One can hope!
OK, here's the latest. I rolled back to 6.0.1 just fine, but unfortunately I believe Samsung locked the system with the late September update. That means I can't use ADB or Package Disabler Pro to hide/block/disable the OTA update packages. So, I can't disable the packages that stop the OTA update unless I rollback to a ROM before they locked the system. Unfortunately again, the baseband is different for the older updates, so I can't rollback that far.
So, now I have Marshmallow back, but I have the annoying notification update that won't go away too. Still looking for a way around it without root. If anyone has any ideas please let me know!
"Thanks Samsung for locking our phones!" -said no one ever
Alright... last update I think. I found a different app that gets the job done. It's called BK Package Disabler. After you install it you can do a search for "sdm". Disable both of those packages, and the OTA notification goes away, and it doesn't look for any new ones either.
Still on 6.0, but daily SYSTEM UPDATE to 7.0 occurring. Can I shut them off to keep 6.0 for a few more months?
S7 on Verizon
Yeah, if you download BK Disabler from the app store you can stop the notification about the update. Just search for "sdm" in the app. Two packages should pop up. If you disable both of them you should be set.
HOWEVER, I don't know much about this app, so I am not endorsing it. I used it and it worked, but I wasn't able to find a lot of information about it on the forums. So, use at your own risk.
