[5.0.2 SOAK TEST] Lollipop taste for Moto E is Seeding to Users - Moto E General

Finally Moto E users get the Android L, its not the official release but its a Soak test from Motorola which was being sent to users from early-morning today, Moto E fan's were updating their status on the Moto E groups for the email they got for getting the Soak Test, if the Soak test is announced it will not take much more then a week or two to get a stable release to the rest of the users, and it maybe by February End that each and every one may get the Lollipop taste. On one side Moto E users are happy, while the Moto X users the 1st Gen users are being anoyed of not getting the update to Android L, Moto X was last to last year's Flagship, of 2013.
Moto E is also getting the Soak Test which means that the Update is on the way, and will be reaching by Feb End as Soak Test is not a beta it's somewhat higher then Beta.
Motorola Also conformed the same by a FB post's from "Motorola India Fans" Page.

Any news on soak tests?

Its windows 10 !

I just chatted with Motorola Support (Austria) and asked if this is a Lollipop Soak test and she said yes! I will participate now, let's hope I will get choosen, because it is randomly picked. :good:
If I get choosen I will make a system dump and make a flashable ZIP. Let's hope the best.

How long until the images start rolling out usually?
I've already filled the SurveyMonkey's survey, and I'm waiting for further steps.. How long did it take them to send you the email with the installation details?
Seems it takes a couple of days for them to collect data and devices from the survey, and then they send it.

I'm wondering how long it will take VZW to roll out the official update when it hits. They were pretty good about 5.0 on the 2nd gen though, they were one of the first to get it if I'm not mistaken.

First of all the invitations for the survey are purely confidential so don't disclose about it. And yeah i think it is for the newer 5.1 version along with certain bug fixes. They are starting stock tests for Indian version of Moto G2.

This is wrong. Motorola is committed to bring newer android versions to our phones. Many other flagship phones by other companies are still on kitkat. We should give proper credit to motorola for their hard work and consistency by agreeing to their conditions. Please close this thread and stop discussing about soak test in these forums. There are specially dedicated forums for soak test discussions on motorola owners' forums.

Based on my last experience on MFN (the 5.0 soak test) even they don't take their forums seriously. The last time, after a lot of problems, no one from Moto answering anything, the forum simply got "reset", erasing all messages and complaints from us.. Very "commited", right?
They invite anyone no matter how NOT tech savvy people are, with a Google Translated-like invite, to a forum where mods barely speak the target language. I don't know how it went for other countries/languages, but at least for the Brazilian versions, it was nothing but a bad joke. I had to manually install a leaked version to actually test it, because my phone wouldn't receive the update no matter what I did.
That said, there is nothing wrong in saying "hey I got invited". You're not disclosing anything about the test itself. Anyway, a Moto engineer is already telling publicly on G+ that soak tests are starting for this or that device and whatnot. (https://plus.google.com/u/0/+DavidSchuster/posts), so it's not actually so secret.

I think unofficial will be out sooner 1-2 week/s.
edit: It looks like they're throwing away the bloatware, that could mean that we will get M very soon.
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/108264
I think we will get it sooner than we got 5.0.2, the device has a little more than 1 year, and Motorola has been planning to take us directly to 6.0 for a while, thats why we didn´t get 5.1.1. It wouldn't make sense to buiId a new rom and 2 or 3 months later do it again.
Generally, Motorola devices will probably get the update sooner than before because there are some features that they will not implant like they said on official site.
I also think that Moto g 2014 will be one of the first to get the update, since Moto G 2015 and new Moto X's already have 5.1.1 out of the box, so they can wait a little bit more.
What is happening is exactly like Moto G 2013:
-they got the 5.1.1 earlier straight from KK, but they won't get 6.0;
-we will get 6.0 earlier straight from 5.0.2 but will not get further updates, at least more than 6.0.x or so.
Anyway, if it comes before December it would be awesome, but we must keep waiting, at least for the official rom.

Also, I've seen this article http://www.androidstandard.com/android-m-for-moto-g-features-and-release-date/ saying this:
According to latest reports, it has been confirmed that Google will release the Android 6.0 Marshmallow on September 29th. So Motorola may start the rollout to Moto G 3rd Gen in the US in October. Moto G 2nd Gen Google play editions will also receive the Android 6.0 update in October or November. Moto E UK Lollipop upgrade

Thought you all might enjoy this conversation with the Motorola UK support chatline - can't say I did
After a 20 minute wait
Sai: Hi, my name is Sai. How may I help you?
Me: I have a UK retail first generation Moto E and am wondering when the Lollipop upgrade is likely to be available
Sai: We appreciate your interest on Motorola software updates.
Me: I am glad of that but could you please answer the question?
Sai: Actually we are very close to the official release of L update to all the moto devices. I suggest you to wait until you get the official update.
Me: I have been waiting for several months. Could you please tell me what 'very close' means?
Sai: As we focus on making sure it is tested for the best possible experience to provide our customer an error free android l and that it is compatible with current apps in the marketplace.
Me: But you have already rolled out in several other countries. Why is the UK taking so long?
Sai has disconnected
That's quite amusing (but not for us E 1st gen users)
I been emailing Motorola since 6th July, I got my 1st gen E from Tesco on a 24 month contract.
I was promised by the young lady it was garunteed to be updated to lollipop "within a month of purchase" (got it on 6th of June, it had 4.4.4 KitKat on it at purchase)
No update came, so I started emailing them when I saw on Google+ the update had rolled out in India, Asia and Brazil.
I was told in reply that the device offered for sale in these continents was an XT1022, a very different devise to the XT1021 that we have in the UK.
They also told me they couldn't comment on "continent pacific updates"
I thought "thank you very much, but wheres my answer and when am I getting lollipop?"
I got fed up with waiting, unlocked my bootloader, flashed TWRP recovery, my decision was to install CM12.1.
I then I found a rom port of the Asia, Brazilian and United States stock Motorola 5.1 moto e first gen rom on here by a dev called @lost101, I flashed the US rom and it works flawlessly on my moto e, just make sure if you decide to flash it you download the rom pacific to your own device, ie XT1021, XT1022 ect, ect.
the rom can be found in the moto e development section here on XDA and is titled "Motorola 5.1 lollipop stock rom collection.

Bewildering!! Im amazed L isnt out given when it landed on the Nexus devices. Im now running CM11 which has been a significantly better experience.
I could have sworn a few days ago that I got a software OTA update notification a few days ago on my Moto E (retail version) but I declined it, wanting to do it manually as I was at work at the time. Now I can't get my phone to recognise that there is a software update at all.
Did I just imagine the OTA update? Or have other people had problems where they decline the OTA and then can't later update manually?
Apparently if you plug the phone into a PC with the Motorola website open it will find the available updates.
Regarding these ota updates, we should be thankful we are getting lollipop at all.
There's just been a huge backlash of moto e (2015) 2nd gen owners as this newer device isn't getting marshmallow, which means from release to now, the e second gen has the shortest device support of any manufacturer, just under 300 days!!!
I suppose the only way any of us will see M on a 1st or second gen E would be via CM13 (if any dev is willing to become a device architect and port it to either E's.
I've read that there is doubt that a newer or 3rd gen E is going to be released.
Moto were onto a winner with the e and if you read or watch the e sales paper/video, it was hailed as being the device that will be updated regularly.
Motorola said themselves. In black and white and on video!
Pity because my E is the best android I've owned.
Full stop.

Knock me sideways with a feather: the upgrade arrived! However, I've downloaded directly to the phone over WiFi (363MB). Currently churning through the app upgrades

Same here. I thought one of the benefits of lollipop was that you COULD move apps to the SD card without rooting though?

Why do you know it is being rolled out? Please explain this because there are a lot of threads saying the same because of the announcement from Motorola.
Thanks.

Personally No.
But im seeing a lot of posts today showing the same.
Also on google+ some brazil guy posted the same and said its the third beta of soak test.
But looking at the size of file which is more than 900 mb it seems to me as official.

You should have asked your friend to capture the OTA.

Have you already received OTA update?
It is the US version. Not Indian official one. There are two versions with different sizes one is 800+mb, and another one is 900+ mb but both function the same. Playstore does not work with these.
