For example I think this part can be very necessary
http://images.fonearena.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Huawei-Ascend-G510-Storage-and-RAM.jpg
because we have to install many HD games

I am still using my Xplay, on CDMA
But I've got all the hacks I can place on it. Currently running jellybean, although it's been a bit unstable and may head back to GB.
Anyhow, I'm excited about these devices, and after having to stretch the memory of the Xperia Play, I think 16GB factory internal is fairly decent, just have a 128 class 10 SD handy and I don't think memory should be a problem.

Looks like a sweet device I'll Prolly buy the w3d

Wow really not bad. it would be a guaranteed buy if they made the buttons in a slide compartment like they did with the xperia play, so the phone is not that tall but thicker.

Ya man they are making phones to skinny and huge really awkward to get in your pocket and break WAY easier. Not even really comfy to hold because they are so thin. Just make them fatter with a huge battery. As for the slide away gamepad I think sony has a patent on that. No one else can implement it and they are just sitting on it im guessing until cell gaming gains a bit more ground in north america. Ill definitely buy a snail w3d might be a problem gettin it in the pocket though. An xperia play 2 with a snapdragon 810 or a different more powerful cpu would be perfect. Really hope they do it some day. Play is a great device which was crippled because sony also released the slightly better ark and the vita at the same time pretty much.

The more I look at this phone the more I want it. Been on my nexus 5 (which I am very happy with minus gaming) over a year now and using a moga hero controller and its just not the same as having an all in one phone like the Xperia play. Hoping this phone sees a USA release and the build quality it good. I would drop my nexus 5 for this snail w3d phone.

Looks pretty interesting, I'm only worried about portability. If it fits a regular jeans pocket, then I may very well end up buying one.
I prefer slider form factor, but on the other hand not having to worry about opening it up to change your flex cable every now and then is a good thing.

I currently have a Note 3 and I think that's the max size I'm comfortable with. Seeing that the Xperia Ultra is still bigger than the Note 3 just makes me wonder if I could use this as my daily phone... Plus, the whole "this looks like a PSP" thing is kind of a downer. But I used the old Ngage tacophone back in the days, so I might be able to overlook this. Having quality portable emulation without carrying a MOGA around might be worth these sacrifices.

I have been using a Nexus 5 and a Moga Hero, I am really hoping this phone gets a release and that the reviews are decent for it. I would be all over this, as the N5 and the Moga Hero are not the best portability wise. If i can have this phone and do both then I am all over it, makes me really miss the Xperia PLAYs portability.

Because I prefer my phones to look like phones. It was weird enough to hear people at work asking me why I was talking to my "gameboy" when I answered my Ngage (some in jest, some were really that clueless).

Yeah, nothing is quite like our good, old Xplay. I'm glad I finally managed to ressurect mine, but I somehow screwed the L & R buttons in the process, they aren't as clicky as they were - but still useable. Might revert to using it as my daily phone again.
I'm still waiting for the Bladepad. That seems like the best alternative, but not only are they severely behind their release schedule, but android would be a later release after iOS, which really sucks...

I definitely don't mind whenever I slid out my plays gamepad everyone's face lit up and questions just never stopped lol. Everyone I know LOVED it and loves playing it. I'm definitely going to buy the w3d but it woukd be great if the gamepad slid away. And if I don't like it hey it's only 350$ not a huge deal.
Sent from my LT28i using XDA Free mobile app

They still making the bladepad? I thought they called it quits after the IOS compliant thing. Plus, with the iphone 6 being released in 2 sizes, and Sony owning the slide out patent, they almost have to go back to the drawing board.
The W3D seems to look long, but the build looks durable. A fingerprint magnet though. I currently use the Snail W1 as my everyday phone, and it is long, but very pocketable. About as pocketable as a slim Vita, maybe even smaller.
I do miss the slide form factor of the Xplay though. I think companies that plan to do gaming phones, should take a cue from Nintendo. First, make a great phone, then make a form fitting attachable to enhance certain features, like for gaming, a bladepad. Don't take everything from Nintendo though, like weak specs, lol!

Atrix vs Nexus S or Arc

Im really interested in buying one of these bad boys but can't really decide. Call volume and battery life is 2 most important thing for me on phone. And since arc is running GB does it have copy and paste? Why would you guys pick arc over those phones. Please don't say cause its sexy. I have till Friday to buy one of these. So please help me out guys. And is there any cases for arc? Or screen protectors? And how is call volume on arc still like x10? Or louder? Some Guy told me on Rogers that he tested arc on meeting and screen looked washed out compare to nexus s. And does arc can support third party earbuds with Michael? And how is stock earbuds sound quality?
thanks
Lmao what's earbuds with Michael? I think if atrix had gb it will kill them both but apparently atrix have locked bootloader same like arc I might wait few months and see if Sony Ericsson has really improved or lying about opening the bootloader after x10 hard to believe that SE promises.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread but X10 wasn't the first phone SE gave us some mumble jumble...
OP
I have to admit that I do care about the shape and look of my phone. If Nexus S was better looking phone I would definitely go with it since its a Google phone and you are updated all the time and all goodies for you. I am all for vanilla OS.
atrix is still new and I don't care about dual core, they are not there. It doesn't mean since it has two core then its better. For what use?
I would consider nexus S again if it was better looking(would be the best in one package) its not that bad but it can't compete with arc.
"because its sexy"
Nexus s is so much smoother and faster than arc and optimized very well and arc would have a carriers junk in there that it will slow down stuff. Nexus s is unique and nice device. And it will get the updates first.

I cant speak for the atrix but its tough between the nexus and the arc. The arc has the better camera but the nexus is a little bit quicker imo, probably due to the fact its stock google and doesnt have SE`s stuff.
Both are sexy
and the arc does have copy and paste btw
No card slot in the Nexus would be an absolute no-go for me.

I'm searching for an android phone last two month. I have seen many videos of unboxing, hands-on, reviews, and etc. and I don't know why dual core phones runs android very choppi on interface, even adding that that phones uses good GPU chips. Motorola Atrix has a good screen resolution, but its interface isn't smoth, same as HTC inspire 4g.
There is a youtube video of an arc showed by a boy, apparently with the last firmware that looks very smoth (more than one or twon moths ago videos), except when you slide to timescape gidget.
I like arc, and i'll waith for the american version.

I've been using a Nexus S for the past couple of weeks and I couldn't disagree more. The Arc feels extremely smooth in comparison, especially the homescreen/launcher.
Yes, I understand that the Nexus S isn't really as consumer-oriented as the Arc but it feels kind of half-arsed, like they haven't really finished it.
As for the screens, despite all the talk of how great sAMOLED is, I'd say the Arc pushes it pretty close.
The Atrix, on paper, is the best of the three but as a Defy owner, I'd never look twice at another Motorola handset until the address the bootloader issue.
The Nexus S is a decent enough phone but the Arc's just nicer IMO.
Nexus s and Arc have the same specs so basicly they have the same performance. The Nexus can feel a little bit snappier because it has vanilla android.
Why i love the Arc is because of it's screen, it's really great even under direct sunlight, compared it with Nexus one and Iphone4. The camera of arc is great but it's similiar to Nexus s. On paper Nexus s has a little bit better battery than arc but in reallity it's almost the same.
I can't talk much about the Atrix, doesn't sold here but it looks like a great phone, only thing that i don't like is the encrypt bootloader.

Moto are really hurting themselves with the bootloader issue. If they think they are losing only xda users they are wrong. Almost all my friends ask me which android phone to get and I always tell them to get HTC as most of them are on Verizon. Recently, even the one's on AT&T I am recommending HTC over Atrix mainly because the bootloader issue.

And are any of your friends likely to ever want to install custom ROMs?
If they're not, then I kinda have to wonder why you're precluding Motorola as an option - you may be recommending a handset that doesn't suit your friends' needs as much because of your personal opinion.
Not to mention, with their most recent handsets HTC are locking the bootloader too, so to recommend them over Motorola on that basis is pretty ridiculous.
The number of sales Motorola will lost over this is pretty minimal, even within the more technical circles - I mean there are plenty of people on here who own Motorola handsets despite the locked bootloader because the rest of the specs demand consideration.

Well, some of them do and others want to be able to do if needed . But most of them ask what I would get and I give them my reasons. One of the reasons I give them for not getting Atrix is because I want screen bigger than 4" after using X10 for a year.
Fair dos.
Most of my friends aren't remotely interested in custom ROMs.

I can't say anything about Atrix, as Motrola doesn't exist in Norway
I have X10i also & I know about low call volume issue, but Arc has not that problem. Volume is loud enough (double louder than X10i).. Battery life is also much better than X10i. I can't compare battery life with Nexus S, but with same usage battery on X10i drains 40%-50% in 6 hours while on Arc only 18%-20%..
To be honest, i chose Arc beacuse of its looks & camera. It's one extra screen protactor in box (as one is already isntalled on screen by default), and one case.. this one:

My thoughts on the Arc and why im going to keep it (read if you want!)

Hello all.
Having owned an X10 for just short of a year I've lived through S.E's initial step in to the smart phone arena, and while they made a lot of mistakes with the X10 they have clearly learned their lesson. Many die hard S.E fans said they were going to jump ship when it came time to purchasing a new phone, myself included, however, having owned my Arc for nearly two weeks now I'm so so glad I stuck with them!
No matter what phone you buy there is always going to be something about it that you don't like, the only thing for me, or what I don't like the most should I say in regards to the Arc is their choice of rear casing, it can be a tad slippery at times so would have preferred to have the same black rubbery casing as on the X10, which I could sit nicely on the slant of the arm on the couch but the Arc just slides down so just sit it at the side of me of me now.
Sure a default Android U.I would be perfect but having now rooted and changed most of it I like my phone even more. There's a few more little niggles such as the bootup time but I'm sure that will be resolved at some point just like a few issues with the X10 were. It's easy to say when you buy a phone it shouldn't come with any issues, unfortunately they do, whether you go with S.E, Samsung or HTC, go browse the forums of any phone on XDA and you'll see that some people are happy with their phones and some aren't, "you can't please all of the people all of the time"!
I recall a user on AndroidForums who had had their X10 replaced a good few times, at least 3 or 4 but were never happy, always finding some sort of fault with the phone and soon became apparent that the said user would have been better suited with a Nokia 7210 or similar phone because their Smart Phone was clearly too smart for them. I'm not saying you need to be a technophile to be able to use a smart phone nor should you have to be for it work as intended, but some people are always going to have issues for whatever reason.
Some people are unlucky and receive a dodgy handset whether it's software or hardware based so there isn't a great deal you can do on such occasions, but that doesn't mean everyone is going to suffer the same issues one person might be having.
To sum up, I love my Arc, current Andoid OS, fast and looks the business, as I've already stated I'm so glad I decided to stick with S.E because imo they've made up for the mistakes they made with the X10.
This is something I would like to see .. Good work bud
+1
Love this thing.

Good thread through.. Androids biggest perform is also its biggest success.. Openness. It allows the knowledgeable to do some seriously impressive things with their phones.. But it also lets the idiots have a go as well..then when they knacker their phone they blame everyone else..

This time last night I was trying to decide whether to buy an Arc or go for something else. After reading the 'other' thread, I had some real concerns about how good the Arc really was. After ALOT more reading tons & tons of threads/reviews I decided to bite the bullet and get an Arc.
To be honest I really can't see what people are complaining about? I think this thing is fantastic! I've spent all day on it and can't see wtf the fuss is about. Battery life is good, it's fast and smooth and looks pretty f**king cool.
Granted I've only played with it for 10 hours but at this stage the biggest problem I've found is getting used to how sensitive the touch screen is although that's more my fault as I'm not exactly petite and gentle. Also, the back was quite slippery but I've put this skin on and it cleared that problem up....

The arc for me is definitely one to miss. You say the arc is fast. That's because your compairing it with your experience of the x10 with older hardware and dated software. Pit the arc against the newer 2011 phones and you'll find its quite slow in comparison. It is to the x10 what windows 7 was to vista (even then I feel I am being a bit harsh to windows 7). It's a polished up version and as such, I see absolutely no reason upgrading from the x10 to it. With gingerbread coming to the x10 soon, I'll see my contract through and hope SE come up with a truly worthy competitor. If they fail to wake up from their slumber by then, the GS3 will most likely be the choice (iphone rip off or not).

Most people who purchase the Arc after owning the X10 are X10 apologists.

Hey guys.
I am a happy owner of the silver arc for 3 days now. I am very satisfied with it, battery on the first charge lasted almost 24 hours - of course somewhat light usage.
I only had to insert a piece of paper under the battery cover to eliminate squeaks.
I noticed you had X10 before. My gf is very impressed with arc and because of the lower price of the X10, she is considering buying it. Can you tell me how much better is the battery on the arc, comparing to the X10?
Thanks.

It largly depend on how you use your phone and ofcourse the android implementation on your device.
Both x10 and arc just got 2.1.B and 2.3.3 update which many claim has increased the battery life.
Also, display is most important factor which drains battery.
Bottomline x10 will have tiny winy bit advantage over arc when 2.3. 3 comes to x10. Both have 1500mA battery.
So, imo, let handling, look, camera be the deciding factors.
I understand, but I believe that the screen on the arc should be more energy efficient. Check the presentation form the xperia acro launch in Japan:
http://www.talkandroid.com/37350-sony-ericsson-xperia-acro-presentation-images-leaked/gpad7/
And we should not forget the cpu technology (45 nm vs. 65nm).
I still believe that if you use both devices exactly the same, the arc should last longer. Just my thought.

Opinions on HTC Desire Z/G2

I'm looking to buy a Desire Z as a gift, and wanted to get some second opinions on the phone. Is the keyboard decent? What's the speed like? How sturdy is the keyboard hinge?
Also, is it fairly easy to root?
I've got an original Desire myself so if it's a roughly similar experience to that but with a keyboard then that'll be good.
Cheers
It's a great phone, 2nd Gen Snapdragon, Adreno 205 GPU...but it is also fairly late in it's life. The keyboard is great, and while people have differing opinions on the hinge, I haven't had any problems.
Just know that it doesn't hold a candle to the 1GB Ram/Dual Core beasts being released today.
Sent from my T-mobile G2 using Tapatalk
The hinge problem has been previously blown up, it is fine.
I couldn't imagine living and typing longer than an sms without a keyboard, I still love it and use it for longer input. If I was buying a phone now I probably could sacrifice the keyboard for a front camera or more CPU power or so. I could even buy a Desire S or a Sensation (just to be in this pricerange). Phones change quickly, quadband is here, I still love this phone.

in my opinion its still a great phone... sure there are better ones out now rooting isn´t that easy, but not very hard too (if you know how to use adb, you are fine) If you are on 2.3+ it could happen that you need to create a goldcard while rooting...
...what rather concerns me right now is the fact that a lot of people seem to have a problem with a fried emmc chip.
here is a link to the wiki-guide for rooting (so you see how its done):

Thanks. Dual core and that isn't a concern, the intended owner is not really fussed about those kind of things, having a keyboard is more important, and I trust HTC as a brand.
Have ordered one now.

I sure wish you could NAME a better phone that is out now!
Remember, it must have the reliability, style, and expensive feel of the G2, must have a great hardware (real) keyboard and beautiful gorilla glass screen like G2, and must be root/developer friendly, have removable battery, and it must provide wifi calling in my weak signal area and free tethering and portable wifi hotspot, and do all of this for US$60/month no-contract service with unlimited 4G everything and no overage charges possible like my G2!
what better one ya got that does all of that?
that's right - NOTHING!

I concur, there is nothing else out there I could see me replacing it with at the moment. I need a hardware keyboard.. More ram and a faster CPU would be handy though... Refreshed DZ required
Great phone, and i will use this as long as it works. I'v had this about little over 11months now, no problems. Only thing is, screen has one frozen pixel in it, tough it's on the side, close to a corner so i barely even notice it, if i look for it, i can see it.
There is Motorola Droid 4 coming, sure looks nice whit that 5-row qwerty. If i would have waited a year longer to upgrade to smartphone world, id get it when it comes.
Now i'm planing on getting a tablet, to get the horsepower going on android. possibly transformer prime, or smth, wonder what CES brings to the table.
I love this phone! Sorry i got drifted to little off topic here.
I won't get another phone until there is a worthy successor. I would like to stick with HTC and I need a qwerty KB (well strongly prefer to have one) so here is hoping for a G3 sometime soon.
Until then though I still get great performance so no immediate rush.
There was also a Samsung qwerty slider I was reading about a while back, can't seem to find the article anymore.
Yea Samsung captivate glide, looks pretty good actually got a tegra 2 processor and 1gb ram... plus one of those beautiful Samsung screens

I agree with flinny if they can refresh desire z 2 aka htc t-mobile g3 with stock in usa. I would love to have front face camera,1gb of ram i hate using my mirror to video chat. Get amoled screen back like nexus one. Add the hardware 5 key rows they had on g1 to g3 .
Hopefully stop selling to many damn Htc phone their selling about 10-15 device every year i wish they can stay with 3-5. Limited their work because then they make users like me hack my phone to get update, that they should be doing themselves. Instead of making excuses on why they cant update 1 device to the other.

Looked very interesting to me at first, but reviews have been far from stellar:
http://techcrunch.com/2011/11/20/review-samsung-captivate-glide-att/
Looks like cheap exterior build quality, and crappy flat keyboard. Nice screen, but hardware specs are merely ok compared to other high end phones currently being released. A Galaxy IIS spec phone with decent keyboard would be killer. But this ain't that.
Can't any manufacturers come out with a high-spec phone, with a decent keyboard?

Anyone Else Tired of Their Desire Z/G2?

Honestly not sure if its the phone or the OS Im tired of. Have been using my G2 for over a year, been using Android for the same amount of time (G2 was my first Android device). Lately I haven't been interested in trying any ROMs, none have really peaked my interest to be honest due to the little issues in them. Not sure what I should do from here......
End of small rant.
Anyone else feel the same way or am I alone?
I still love the phone but I am definitely getting a little bored with it. Same as with most things. After so long of use, it feels like it is time for something new.
I use MIUI and it seems the fastest and smoothest to me (probably as good as you can get on the hardware), so getting bored I try other ROMs but they aren't as smooth so I go back to MIUI. I think ICS might spice things up for a little while l, but I think an upgrade might help.

It's called "consumerism". Just use your DZ till it dies of a natural death >.>
i wasn't bored of it, i was simply tired of the lag, missed messages and genrally just the lack of RAM.
i took the plunge and moved to the desire HD (couldnt afford anything newer)
and i notice the difference in ram immediately, there are LOADS more apps open at once now, and everything just generally feels snappier. and even with all my apps open i have 100mb+ ram left, constantly,
it's a shame that the DZ didnt have more ram, because otherwise i think i could've stuck with it for so much longer.

Damnit I thanked instead of quoting at first. Oh well.
It's "piqued," FYI.
I still use mine all the time. I have ICS on it. And with supercharger it's plenty fast. And I can text sweet things to my gf much easier and quicker using the keyboard. That being said get a hercules and rock both.

What's with all of these posts really...If you're "tired" of the phone go buy another one and use this as a backup. A lot of people do it lately.
Sure - I would be happy to buy a new phone, just as soon as you can invent a phone that has the G2's reliability, developer support, style, at least as good of a real keyboard, display quality, and make sure it works with T-mobile so I can have unlimited everything, including wifi hotspot, free tethering and free wifi calling, and no overage charges possible for only $60/month no-contract!
Yeah, that's what I thought, the G2 has no upgrade that can be made, because it is the best phone/carrier combo out there!
But I do wish there was a magical way to have the reception in rural area and LTE deep building penetration that I envy on Verizon (but I don't envy paying nearly $200/month for the features listed above!)
Still love my phone since the day I got it. Reliable and tough, stylish and sleek. I do look forward to an upgrade, but it's not something that i'm set my heart to. Can't really beat the DZ =)
Can someone just lock this post? It's so silly to post stuff like this.
If you're tired of it, then get a new phone.
g2 has been an awesome phone especially for my first Android phone but I can't wait for the next g series or maybe I'll try out the gnex. Contracts not up till October so hopefully there'll be something cool out then
After a year of using something u naturally get bored of it but if ur that boored of it try getting a mytouch4gslide
Sent from my Htc Doubleshot running ICS
Not bored,
I recently tried a few things to give my G2 a different look and feel. Here's what I have:
meXdroidMod Atomic ROM -- been using meXdroidMod for awhile now
GO Launcher EX ICS theme -- cool screen transitions, my favorite is sphere
GO Locker -- ICS style, and I don't have date and time showing
GO SMS Pro -- I have had this for awhile
GO Weather -- besides HD video background, I like the Temperature Trend among some of the other features
With a couple of apps and also creating shortcuts to access them easily and quickly, i find my G2 very useful and not boring. Now if only I had a bigger screen...
I never understood this emotion where people get bored of things and feel the need to get the newest stuff. To me, the G2 is a solid device and the only time I would ever think of changing is out of necessity: not so much boredom. If I needed a faster GPU or a larger screen or better speakers and so forth: I can definitely understand the decision then because you have a practical purpose for the future device. But to be bored of a device and wanting to upgrade for no other reason because of it is exactly what companies want you to do. convolution put it best, "consumerism", but I would also add the word "affluence" as well.

Lol you must be delusional. This is a great phone, but as soon as I find a nexus s I'm going back. Not only is the phone faster in both the CPU and gpu department, the wolfson sound chip is a god send for music lovers (the g2 can't power my 120$ Sony earbuds and as a result aren't as loud/bass cuts out at low frequencies) , you can't beat the samoled screen (after a little tweaking with voodoo colors it gives a better pq than my 40" ex400) and to top it off ics is smooth as a gyroscope. I can't tell a difference scrolling around home screens and menus compared to my buddies gnex. Dev support is off the charts. IMO the nexus s is the device to have over a gnex or gs2.

truth, it must be quoted. I've yet to see a newer phone with all the qualities I want in a phone. I'm extremely lucky that I got this phone with my family's contract, I had no idea of the developer support behind it when I did choose it.
G2 is my first android device too. And also one year I have been using it. I love my G2 just because it my "first time". I've tried almost every Rom from xda. And now using sense 3.5. But, frankly speaking, I'm considering t buy a new better one.

Wow, that audio chip intrigues me. I primarily use my phone as a music player at the gym and I like my music loud. However I get distortion when I try to adjust the frequencies past a certain point. Is this Wolfson chip a solution?

Getting my Xplay Wednesday Stoked!

I'm getting my Xperia Play on Wednesday. It took me a while to decide to get it, I wanted the Rezound. But I'm getting more and more excited about getting it, plus it was free. I didn't like the somewhat outdated hardware, but coming from the worst android Satan ever though of the LG Ally I should see a performance boost. This is 4 Ally's later and Verizon refusing to give me a Rezound or even honoring a deal on Friday that ended Wednesday. They also dropped my data package as I had to move to a basic phone for about a month, I had unlimited data which you can't even get now. But I can't wait to play some sweet online gaming anywhere I want. Bathroom breaks are going to be a little longer from now on.
Welcome!

Yeah. But from me, I hated it. Rooting was okay. But most roms wouldn't support the gamepad. Its too thick. Looks a bit ugly ( like most xperias except the new one ) Timescape was ugly. All of it was bad except the camera. But I had this phone after a few of my others such as a Nexus S, Desire HD and Desire, so I guess that could've ruined it for me.

You sir have had a lot of phones. I'm already getting ready to get some games when my Xplay gets here
So you "hated" the xplay over the way it looks, and its default ui... which is easily changed, you sir sound hard to please, and yet you like the camera? arguably one of the weakest points of the phone imo. different strokes i guess.
I just found stating that you "hated" it a bit harsh, particularly since this guy just bought one. you didn't even go for redeeming features to soften the blow. :/
btw, i added an extended battery, its thick as a tank, and i love it.

You spelt memory wrong dummy. Btw you can always root your phone to increase internal memory and delete bloatware so thats out of the question. As for the processer. It's a 1ghz snapdragon which still runs well and is still apparent in other phones as well.
Xperia play in white does NOT look ugly. It's got such a nice curve at the back which makes it look sexy.
I really cant complain though as I got my Xperia play for £150.
People who are complaining are the ones who have bought it for £400-500.

Erm, no - he means 'spelt', as in past tense of 'spell'.
American English is wrong again.
Don't really understand the hate towards the Play, it's not as if it's the worst of all those phones with gamepad controllers. You know, those thousands of phones.

Congrats! I got mine over the weekend and I'm loving it. Playing Zelda Majora's Mask and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow among other great games I loved as a kid is priceless.
