Windows 10 doesn't support multiple GPUs - Windows 10, 8, 7, XP etc.

Ok so I have an HP pavilion DV7-4825DX which.. after 4 years still is better than most of the Notebooks over there. My laptip comes with two gpus: one is from AMD for advanced graphics and the other one is an Intel gpu with less power but better battery friendly. My PC came with Windows 7 Ultimate out of the box and, obviously everything worked fine. Years later I decided to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro. I did a clean install and everything worked flawlessly. Same happend to W8.1 and W8.1 update 1 (both with clean installs and manually installed drivers). Then Windows 10 was announced.. I had went to the Windows Insider page and converted me to one of then, then i grab the first build.
This is the first time that I upgrade (not clean installed) Windows. The installation went fine but the screen never turned on after the bootscreen (sounds worked, fingerprint scanner worked etc). Rebooted in safe mode and deleted the graphics drivers from both gpus and then it started. I've installed the AMD graphics and they worked, then I installed the Intel ones and woops! Blackscreen again. Deleted everything and installed the Intel drivers first and worked, then I decided to go with the Amd ones and.... black...screen. So i thought which is more productive to keep? And I keep the AMD ones. But some apps or 3D moddeling programs require the intel processor to work and viceversa, so I turned back to 8.1 Update 1. Now that Microsoft released the "Consumer Preview" kind of version of W10 I've installed it...
.
.
.
Black screen.
Then a screen appeared saying that my PC went back to the last OS because the W10 couldn't be installed. So I had deleted the drivers and reinstalled and now is working only with AMD.
End of the story, the conclussion is that Windows 10 doesn't support switchable graphics anymore and I wrote in the feedback section but I think I'm the only one with this problem so please, people, report it too to get it fixed in the next builds.
Thanks!

I believe it has to do with the WDDM signing, and Windows 10 uses a newer one that AMD has not had any drivers released for.
That or because the new build comes with NT 11 kernel.

Actually it comes with nt10 (10 cos of win 10 who'd a known) and I had 10 when it was first released I had a laptop with Intel hd4000 and gtx 750m and both worked out of the box per say I had to do a little tweaking to get progs to play along sounds like a driver issue you looked for amd beta drivers?

it actually does Support it, i have the same problem on a dell vostro ( core i5 with build in gpu and a nvidia)
before install remove all gpu drivers (even the intel drivers) reboot and after it installed the generic drivers for intel turn of internet connection ( DONT let it install any other grapic drivers)
now without internet upgrade to win 10 , after all is done you can connect to internet and manually install your second grapic drivers.
this worked for me , and yes its a pain in the butt.

Windows Update Intel Driver issue.

Did anyone else have a problem with "newer" Intel graphics driver on windows update?
It was an optional update so unless you manually picked you won't download it.
Anyways it messed up my resolutions settings, I had to reinstall the orginal driver glad HTC left them for us in the HTC folder under program files.
Just wondering if anyone had the same problem or did I just have bad luck and others are using the driver just fine.
Yes. Same here. I had to come back to previous driver too....

How does a "normal" user see this? I took SP1 and remember to have installed everything.
Huib
you cant switch resolution on the button, you will get an error saying that it cant switch due to new driver install ( thats how i discovered it )
Same problem occured, but I restarted vista and the resolution button worked again with the new drivers.
I don't see any problem with the new drivers. What is your symptom?
I had the same issue too had to go back to the previous driver. Has anyone been able to remap the button so we can flick between 800x480 and say the highest res? Currently i have to do it manually.
Hi I had the same problem initialy.
However..
After a few reboots (More then one, Less then five. I don´t remember exactly) it worked fine again.
WITHOUT REVERTING TO OLD DRIVER!
so, first try rebooting a few times...
greetz,
Pfeffa-rah
Well, I am rebooting the fith time. If it doesnt work this time I revert to previous driver
I just used the hd recovery, so I´ll be upgrading again shortly...
I´ll let you know.
Missning input panel icons after pdate
After updating my text panel icons next to the input box was missing after rolling back the htc touch panel driver it worked perfect again, anybody else seen this?
my intel driver went perfect after 2 reboot my buttons worked also..
After HD Recovery and installing ALL updates (NOT SP1) everything just worked....
Lastest INTEL drivers
I installed lastest INTEL chipset drivers
intel_inf_8601007.zip
and VGA INTEL drivers
Intel_gma_15.7.3.1409_v32.zip
and all working fine.
To find lastest version of drivers I had to use search filenames to Google, cos on Intel web pages are only old versions.
I initially had the low resolution problem after the driver update - hit the hardware button - got the error - then rebooted and not its not a problem.

[Q] Windows 7 updates

Hi all,
I just installed a fresh copy of win7 ultimate on my HTC shift and installed all drivers because the old install was getting sluggish. Everything works except for two things: interpolated high resolution gives a blue screen crash when aero is active (no transparency) and the windows basic theme is UGLY. And the second problem: after I install like 85 windows updates shag control center crashes and have to restore a system recovery point. Do you know what update causes this so i can hide it and install the rest?
Many thanks,
Pelle

Which drivers did you use? I hope you are not using the Windows Vista drivers. Download the Shift Windows 7 drivers from this link http://azsharing.com/yvex8pwmz01j/SHIFT.zip.html. Install the Windows 7 drivers discussed in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=590009. The sequence of installing them is precise including those that you need to install in Vista Compatibility mode and with Admin Privilleges. As the OP stated some of the drivers will be installed through Windows update but check which ones. Follow the recomendations in that thread and all will work like a charm...
I believe your Shag Control problems and all display problems are related to the drivers and not Windows update. Mine is on automatic updates and I have not excluded any updates at all save for the Language Pack that I do not need....
Re-install the drivers and lets see what happens after that. By the way DO NOT ENABLE AERO BEFORE INSTALLING THE GRAPHICS DRIVERS otherwise you get BSOD....... That advice is shown as Important in the thread mentioned above. Enable aero theme as the last thing you do with all drivers installed to avoid any problems.
I hope you get sorted and enjoy your Shift with Windows 7......
Edit>>>> There is a way to disable Aero when facing your current BSOd situation through Screen Resolution Settings but I dont remember the precise steps. I can retrace the steps on my Shift once I get to it after work and see whether that will help you. But let me know whether re-installing the drivers will have sorted you out>>>>>
Hello,
I used the driver sequence at gadgetmix (sorry, i can't post links yet) because it worked fine a year ago and the drivers from the HTC website in vista compatibility mode and run as administrator.
With reinstalling do you mean that I have to uninstall the old driver and install the new one or can i just install the new driver over the older one?
Thanks
Pelle
EDIT: had aero off the entire installation

Best is to uninstall and then install afresh using Windows 7 drivers..... Perhaps even check box to delete the old driver as well. If Aero was off during installation you dont have many problems. Aero on during 7 upgrade especially before graphics driver update causes Bsod or boot loop.
You should be ok when you install the windows 7 drivers. But the sequence of driver installations is important.... All the best
Have been fiddeling with the drivers for a while now and given up. just started Windows 7 setup again. After that i will use the windows 7! drivers and hope for the best.

EDIT: windows just installed. Turning off Aero and starting drivers... Fingers crossed
Drivers just finised and now the sond doesn't work
Tried rolling back/ updating driver, reinstalling driver muting unmuting in windows and shift control center but no luck...
And when I press the resolution changer I have to reboot to switch resolution.
shift control center has to be selected from start menu to start
This is a lot worse than when i did it using the tutorial at gadgetmix
Any idea how to fix this?

Sorry to hear about the problems you are facing. I am surprised coz I did the Windows 7 installation just a few weeks ago after reviving my dead Shift and everything is working perfectly for me. The only thing I havent fully sorted out is Finger print thing but I know I only need an hour or 2 with it and all will be well.
Incidentally did you do a clean install of 7 or you upgraded Vista?
Since you have just done a fresh install and you dont stand to lose much I would advise that you re-install Vista (F3) which will install all the drivers then Upgrade Windows 7 from the freshly re-installed Vista. You can then install drivers for any device that will show not to be installed after 7 upgrade.... Of course following the sequence and allowing Windows Update to take care of the rest.

The problem is that i once had to replace my HDD because some idiot dropped my shift and for some reason the accelerometer didn't kick in and trashed my hard drive. So pressing F3 won't do anything. Are there any other solutions?
DID IT! It was in my windows 7 install disk. Downloaded and burnt one (it should be legal because I have paid for it) installed, installed drivers an BOOM! everything works! aero, HiRes in aero sound, its nice and responsive battery life on power saver 2H and 45 minutes, havn't tested modem yet as my sim card is in my smartphone but will do that. Thanks a lot for all of your help! I will be hanin round here to help others. I AM SO HAPPY EVERYTHING IS FINE WITH MY LOVELY SHIFT! Updates Sucseeded and everything works perfect!
Only one more question: is it safe to install sp1? Or will that give problems with some of the drivers.

Glad you finally managed to get your Shift up to speed. I always felt that your peculiar issue boiled down to bad install which is confirmed by the first software you used. What type of disk did you use for the Hdd replacement - Hdd or SSd and for what capacity. Been thinking of upgrading but Ssd costs are still up there in teh skies and might not justify upgrading for the ageing Shift....
You can update to Service Pack 1 no problem. I have it and no issues at all.

I Bought the exact same drive on ebay for $30 or so. I solved the hard drive light staying on by just running CHKDSK but now the same programs just crash...
It now happens when trying to do a system score, when changing my network to public and when uninstalling a program using control panel. The rest all works fine.

[Q] Nvidia Optimus on Windows 8

I have just installed the new Consumer Preview and love it!
However I have a Nvidia 555M graphics card which uses Nvidia Optimus, with out the nvidia drivers installed the graphics card simply runs on full the whole time but windows only sees the intel graphics chip, as such I can't play games well and still have horrible battery life!
So has anyone got the drivers to install/Optimus working right?
If so how?
having the same problem & graphics card,
according to NVIDIA you can just download the latest win7 drivers, works for some, not for all/always
Kind regards, Jonas
link: forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=224078
(not enough post, so just copy/paste)
edit: make sure you pick the correct bit version, or it will just tell you that it can't find your GPU
edit2: heared rumors about more success without the physx & auto-update; so disable those if you want
eidt3: just to say... working for me now, after several restarts (yesterday it failed after a restart or 2)

Hey,
try rebooting & re-installing the NVIDIA drivers a few times, it should work.
Also make sure you have the correct version of the drivers (x86 for 32-bit & x64 for 64-bit)
I tried installing windows 7 drivers, but it didn't work for my gt555m. Now that release preview is out, is there another way of making Optimus work?
Install the new verde drivers. There availible on the website and there made for windows 8. Stopped all my crashes and slow games. The newest ones also are supposd to have alotta updates for games

Amd Radeon Drivers problem.

Hello XDA,
I have recently installed Windows 8 pro x64 and loving it so far But......
I have a Hp Pavillion with Amd Radeon Hd 6470M. Under 'Device Manager' it is indicated as 7400M with that little 'caution symbol'.
I have tried to update the drivers via the catalyst Program 'v12' for windows 8, but if I try to install it says "catalyst cannot download drivers because of incompatible software bla bla bla. I got another setup from hp.de and I managed to proceed with the installation. During installation the screen flickers a lot 'normal I presume' but after restarting I get a blank screen, lots of flickering and the fun going nuts. I managed to get the catalyst software running through 'run' and uninstalled the newly installed drivers, back to normal!!
Until now the 'caution' symbol is persistent.
Does any one know where to get 3rd party drivers or if you have a solution it will be highly appreciated!!

No third party drivers mate... I had the same problem... My advice is to dual boot your lappy.. I have a DV6 pavilion... Also do not install catalyst manager software... The only thing you can do right now is to update the driver using device manager...
i have a dv7 i tried everything except the obvious and it worked. I downloaded my drivers from hp's support site. Changed the compatability to windows 7 and installed as admin worked great all back to normal.
On my dv6 3006tx the default Windows 7 drivers work well - if you can force the installation of them.
Look for a swsetup folder on your C:\ root. There may be correct drivers within there.
If not, manually download the correct driver's from HP's site. Do NOT use an automatic driver detector. Run the installer, and everything will extract to C:\AMD or something. Then you must install the driver files directly through Device Manager. Right click, update driver software. Try both options. Also try the 'have disk' sub-option, and navigate to the .inf files you find in the directory.
Unfortunately, it's mostly trial and error. The drivers probably will work - but AMD just won't let you install them! If only there were a way to bypass every single OS version check they make...
Also try the generic Windows 8 GPU drivers from AMD's site. You probably won't get switchable graphics, though.

[GUIDE] Install Windows 10 on TW800/801

I offered myself to do a guide to install Windows 10 on the Winbook TW800/801, this might work for the others too and even for other tablets, however.
TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO YOUR TABLET OR THE WORLD.
This guide is very tedious but it will payoff in the long run, I regret nothing and I will not comeback to Windows 8/8.1.
-Requirements:
2 - USB Stick: 16GB or more. Why 2?: I just want to make sure nothing goes wrong, I will explain later why.
USB Hub with USB Keyboard and USB Mouse
A brain?
I will simplify the guide, later I will make a longer one, and see if more devices work.
Step 1. Do the gansta rap. Go to Control Panel > Backup and Restore.
Step 2. When asked rock and plug in one of the USB then make the HDD backup.
Step 3. With the second USB Stick now make a backup of Windows folder.
Step 4. Extract the Windows 10 ISO (recommended builds 10041 or 10049) in the C:/ Disk
Step 5. Enter the extracted Windows 10 folder, then enter > Source
Step 6. Execute the Setup.exe in the source folder, not the one outside that folder or else it will give you error.
Step 7. Follow all the normal steps to install Windows, it will not give you the option to format but it will let you install it.
Step 8. After it is installed nothing will work, this is where the USB Hub / Keyboard and Mouse will give be of use.
Step 9. After plugging the USB Hub / Keyboard and Mouse also put the USB Stick where the Windows folder is located.
Step 10. Go to Device Manager and then all the devices with ? or ! go to them and update drivers, use specific location and put the location where the old Windows folder is.
Step 11. Repeat the same for all devices even for all the devices that are working fine without any symbol, same goes for graphic.
Step 12. ENJOY!, now unplug everything touch and WiFi/Bluetooth and anything else should be working.
I will update the guide in some more hours to add more information.

I don't have any Lumia phone that I could try it on, sorry mate.
Thanks but it didn't work for the TW800 I'm missing hard drive space on this POS and it won't let me do it off of removable media either. Sucks looks like I'm stuck with 8.1 for ever.
I successfully installed windows 10 on my TW-801 with the free windows 10 download and everything works perfect. I went directly to Microsofts website and first installed internally - I had to install it twice the second time via the sdcard image so it does not ask you for the product key. I am also running Ubuntu via VMWare virtual machine on this tablet. Windows 10 is so much better than 8.1 on this tablet. Also when you download windows 10 it gives you the option of 32 or 64 bit. I just installed the 32 bit since the stock 8.1 was 32 bit - but I am wondering since it is a 64 bit processor if you can install the 64 bit version.

The 1511 build installer won't finish on the WinBook tablets. You should use the installer from July 29th to get Windows 10 on it, then let it update itself to 1511.
how you can fix touchscreen and gaerometer drivers? I have win10 on my TW800 but only work with keboard and mouse and vertical postion. Any drivers you have for those too becasue rest is working better than 8.1
so how i can fix it? Microcenter said they are not supporting Windows 10 rollback to Windows 8.1 but which version or where i can find drivers they are not helping too.
Thanks @TravisAntonio !
For anyone still fooling with the TW801, I'm about to find out if I can fresh install the latest Windows 10 (otherwise using these instructions), however, if build 1903 still has the same installation problem that 1511 evidently had, Dell has a webpage here where they give direct Microsoft hosted download links to the 32 and 64-bit versions of the MediaCreationTool for build 1507. Note that even if you want to download the 32-bit version but you're doing it on a 64-bit PC, you want the 64-bit MediaCreationTool - you can still download the 32-bit ISO from the 64-bit tool. I can confirm that although the size of the build 1507 ISO doesn't match up with the sizes listed on Dell's site (same link as above), the size is close enough - possibly the tool is downloading the very last, most up to date build 1507 ISO.
The direct Microsoft hosted download links for the build 1507 MediaCreationTools are:
x86: MediaCreationTool
x64: MediaCreationTool64
Once I get around to actually fooling with the tablet again, I'll post an update regarding which fresh install build I had to use.

Thanks for share me such information. I am also using window 10 64 bit version.
Well, some great news. I followed the directions but with a very recent build 1903 of Windows 10 x86, downloaded 8/17/2019 - MD5 of the ISO was A9E0929B411E18867F6A630A8C4731FD (I'm giving the MD5 because one x64 ISO I downloaded just three weeks prior would never work correctly on my regular PC but the x64 ISO I downloaded the following week has worked perfectly.
Possibly very important: First, I didn't have to use the Setup.exe in the Sources folder - I used the main Setup.exe, I unchecked the option to keep personal files and apps, and I allowed it to download all updates and drivers. No idea if that made any difference, but it's what I did.
The bad news is I think my USB port is busted - I was hoping a fresh Windows install would fix the problem but alas it's probably because the tablet hit the floor last week. Devices get some power but as you can see in the screenshot attached of Device Manager within a minute of logging into the new Windows installation for the first time, all device drivers are installed but when I plug anything into the USB port, I get the "Unknown USB Device (Set Address Failed)" error. Port worked fine 4-5 months and possibly more recently but the tablet fell on the floor last week so guessing that's why it's not working.
It's a good thing the drivers loaded on their own since I couldn't even use a USB keyboard and mouse. I don't know if the MicroUSB port is actually a proper USB port as well, but first, it's wonky already - the power cable has to have pressure coming from underneath it to tilt it a little "down" into the port in order to charge, and so far with any MicroUSB adapter, I haven't gotten any regular USB devices to work through it.
Cheers!
Edit: Forgot to mention that when Windows was booting the first time after the install was complete, it eventually froze on some kind of progress screen (immediately before the OOBE). The tablet screen would still both timeout and go dark and respond to power button presses but would still have the progress circle frozen. I believe I was still able to get to a shutdown menu, if I remember correctly, and shut down the tablet, after which I was able to start it back up and boot fully up without a hitch.
Also note that I had a small fan blowing on the back of the tablet all along
Great write,thanks for sharing
