Selling my Maxx on swappa - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo General

I can't stand the camera quality and am forced to sell. It's a great phone otherwise.

Try to get your hands on the updated version 5 moto camera app before giving up. There was some improvement for me. If you are a real shutterbug, then it might not be enough improvement in low light for you.

Camera quality is fantastic.
Focus needs some work but can be improved.

I'll give it a shot. Thanks

The turbos camera is terrible as are all Motorola cameras. I love moto though so I also have an iPhone 6 for special events. I'm not bashing the turbo and I love mine but there isn't an app or software update that will make this camera right. Its like this with every new moto that comes out and its amazing every time that they botch that camera.

I agree that of the OEMS moto just doesn't do the best cameras. But, I think of the moto phones, the turbo is the best among them. It's definitely not the greatest camera. But not the worst either. I get some pretty good shots. Then I get some duds.
A better camera does a pretty good job of improving the turbos camera. Adjusting what type of focus it uses seems to help a lot

Sony Xperia Z2 vs iPhone 5s vs Lumia 1520 low-light camera comparison

Really happy with this test , showing the excellent low light capabilities of the Xperia Z2,
Here:-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NKTYPBuGH4
That's amazing
Hope the camera will impressive as in the show when I use it later
Wow
Just one word, Wow!
Ok wait i'm speachless now! THIS JUST SMASHED THE NOKIA AND I****5S
As a Z1 owner this makes me really happy. Both have the same camera, there's no reason why ours shouldn't be improved to be like the Z2's!
I think there is some NFC trick going around. See that plastic sticker on the box?
^ Are u joking? I doubt that they would be so stupid and cheat there, reviews would find that out really fast.

Not a fair comparison. I have owned the 5S and 1520. Use a Note 3. The 1520 would still take a better or as good as shot if it was allowed to focus properly and not have the focus light covered
Not saying the Z2 will be poor just adding some balance.
Mmm.. maybe those box is made for the z2 showoff
Maybe after released to the market, there will be a better camera comparison. But I still love the z2 rather than 5s or the nokia or the s5
Something is very suspicious about this test. I don't know what they're doing, but I would not expect that dramatic of a difference with the Z2 camera in reality.
People need to understand how ISO, shutter speed and aperture work before making judgement. Unless you're just gonna use it for selfies in auto-mode... in which case, who gives a crap.

EXACTLY! What people don't understand is that the shutter speed and ISO can be manually adjusted on the Lumia to take some very impressive low light shots that would never even be visible on the almighty 5S.
Not a very good comparison, we'll see what happens in real life. But still... suggesting NFC trickery with the sticker on the box sounds a little bit far-fetched...
You guys are so crazy for thinking z2 smashed the other two. It was a cheated test for god sake. The z2 used flash while the others didn't

and doesn't 1520 support NFC too? and We all clearly saw that the flash is off on all three devices.

Hypocrite, I clearly myself sometimes don't like the photo quality on Z1 cause it can do better than that and it's all with software issue and I compared 1520 with Xperia Z1 and It showed Xperia Z1 is better.

This test was done on fully auto not the manual mode, I know if it was taken on manual mode Xperia Z2 might not do well yet it will have some decent pictures, Remember that SA mode isn't bad all the time. It takes some great shots time to time.
What a shot!

well that test is kinda strange for sure but flash clearly wasnt used - you can even see the disabled flash symbol in that video
I've re-watched the video and I now understand how it did better but I will wait for comparisons by tech sites. For me all Sony cameras on xperias have been rubbish so I will wait. I don't expect it to beat One/2 or 1020 pureview in low light but we'll see.

Flash was turned off... you can clearly see that on the screen. However ridiculous the test might be - suggesting Sony rigged it with NFC or hidden/modified icon to conceal the use of flash is just as ridiculous...
This test it still useless though. Real photos are what matters and we will know more in the weeks to come.

The Best Phone of the Year...killed by a poor camera

I was really excited to see the spec for the M8.
The spec turned out pretty decent, but the camera.....unbelievable. How can a smart phone be shipped with a poor camera....a flagship smartphone that is.
The Galaxy S5 and the Z2 among others will absolutely kill this phone in sales.
The build of the M8 is beautiful though.....such a huge mistake with this poor choice of camera for the 2nd year running,
you are missing the point.
if you dont have the phone you shouldnt post in here. if you have it and face any problem with the camera you are welcomed. do you think HTC is dumb to create such thing? the desire have 13mp camera if HTC believes that 13MP of desire is better for the one they wouldnt hesitate to apply it to the HTC one too! but this phone with this poor camera you claim won many prices for the best phone of 2013 and now its featured in DUAL camera. this thread should be closed and users who are creating useless threads should be BANNED!!

Over the past 4 years or so, I have came to very heavily rely on my smartphone camera, i think almost everyone has. Yeah sure I have a great Compact digital camera and also a great DSLR .
But i always have my smartphone with me. The other cameras only get an outing about twice a year!

The camera in m8 does not have optical image stabilization like the m7.
No OIS equals blurry pics unless you walk around with a tripod.
For the moment I am happy with my m7.

As for the camera:
Speaking of photos, the Nexus 6 packs an improved 13-megapixel sensor that - in all honesty - seems to run circles around the camera the Moto X got. Motorola's dead-simple camera interface was nowhere to be found, though, leaving the stock Google Camera app in control. Truth be told, we didn't miss it all that much -- what really matters is that the Nexus 6 doesn't suck at taking photos. Considering the luck the Nexus family has had with cameras, you should be very, very excited.

A pair of average front facing stereo speakers is an upgrade from a single rear facing speaker of any kind.

Why should I keep the Turbo?

I've been running into the usual problems, at least, I think. The camera is so slow - I'm coming from a Galaxy S3, and I actually use that phone around the house as a camera because of how much clearer the pictures come out (regardless of the number of megapixels...). The volume on calls is low. And today, using the speakerphone, I hear complaints of an echo immediately.
I'm honestly considering switching to an iPhone - just because the camera and battery life seem on par with this phone, or at least better than what I'm used to with the S3.
Lower the resolution if its an issue.
It takes quite speedy pics at 8mp, just like your s3.
As for battery life, no the iPhone isn't on par.
I've turned the size down on Google's camera, it's frustrating that you can't do it on the stock camera. It doesn't really change the speed for me, too. The speed of focus on the S3 was much, much faster, and that's what resulted in better pictures. Not the size of the picture, or the amount of pixels taken in. Plenty of threads in this forum say the same thing.
Then take it back.
You don't need us to convince you otherwise.
I've taken great pics with this camera. I am not one to subject myself to phones I dont like for the sake of a camera either.
Always buy a device for what it can do, not what it might do in the future. It sounds like there is a device you rather have. You should get it.
You're right. Just trying to see if anyone has had any luck with updates, or any other camera app, before I make the switch. I bought it in the holiday return period timeline, so I technically have until January 15th. I'm not super ready to leave android, but it might end up happening after 6 years.
Is what it is as the saying goes. If an iPhone will make you happier that's what you who should get.
This will provide you with no help at all. But I'm going to toss in one, lol at the iPhone battery being on par with the droid turbo. If camera is your number one thing though, I would suggest the iPhone. No one will deny it takes the best pictures. And if anybody does, there foolish. You can't crop them lol but for a point-and-click nobody does it better
have u try to clean cache ?

It does focus automatically, and the nice thing about it is that you can actually pick the object you want it to focus on by moving the shutter. It just takes 1-3 seconds to actually focus properly.

Before you switch give this camera app a try. I've had better results with it. Lenovo Super Camera download version 3.6.7. @Demiurge7 has a good explanation of how the resolutions work here.
I'll try it out! Honestly, I really want to like this phone, but the camera is a huge dealbreaker for me. I really love so much else about it, but I'm coming from a phone that had a fantastic camera, even if the sensor isn't technically as high quality.
Because this is the best phone right now and with lollipop it will only get better.

Is there a way to make the double-twist open a different camera app? That would be awesomesauce.
If you want a better camera and want to stay on Android (seriously, iOS will drive you nuts), then you might consider the LG G3. The G3 has a fantastic camera with super fast laser focus and OIS. My wife has a 5s and the G3 definitely takes a better pics - especially indoors. The unlockable bootloader is a nice perk too. Debloated and Xposed, it runs flawlessly. My only gripe is the rear power and volume buttons.

Camera in low light sucks

This camera is just so bad in low light. Any fixes? I upgraded from a M8 but damn the camera is so far behind.
Bad how? I think it's good, if you hold it steady. It doesn't have OIS which is a shame, but the sensor seems particularly good and it has a wide aperture lens.

Yes, there is a fix.
Turn lights on, or pick a well lit scenario.
Jokes aside, it's just how this camera is. The sensor is bad in low light situations, as I guess it enjoys turning the ISO way high, and while a lower ISO would probably give you better pics, it would turn out blurred because the sensor is not mechanically stabilized.
It's not too bad, but shooting in auto mode tends to bump up the iso, which results in a noisy photo. I usually switch to manual mode, keep the iso around 400 and adjust shutter time according to the situation. It's maximum 1/3 of a second, so you shouldn't have too much trouble holding it still for that long.
Photos come out more detailed and sharper that way. Much better than in auto mode.
Also coming from the m8.. camera quality and detail really suck in comparison. Especially detail.
Considering this is the same camera as the Galaxy s7... Motorola could have done a lot more with the firmware.

Ok, now I agree...
I'm actually very upset at how bad the camera sucks, it's quite upsetting. After reading about what sensor it has, it's actually quite shocking how really bad this phone's camera is.
I was getting better pictures on my Oneplus One that was over three years old when the Moto G5 Plus came out, there simply is no reasonable excuse for performance this poor.
I think I'll want to never buy another Moto/Lenovo product again, unless they do something to remedy this situation.

The M8 had a sensor with large pixels and a low pixel count specifically to perform better in low light.
It's a shame that no one buys products and reviews them for the community, so they can make an informed decision on the pros and cons of a particular product before spending a bunch of money on them...
Well, my experience has been totally opposite, this thing has probably the best low light camera along with top dogs like s7/8 u11, pixel.
although it requires moded libs for it.
My experience is that the low light on mine is comparable to my m8 the color is poor but after color correction they come out decent.

You're joking, right? Swapping in hacked libs that make your phone take crappy 2MP photos in exchange for "software enhanced" photos is not putting it on par with the S6/7 lol

No i'm not talking about 2mp photos but full 12mp.
Ofc it's not going to give you 100% same results cuz there are still some hardware is lacking like OIS. but you haven't paid 100% same price either.
so you gotta consider that too .
I think it's something to do with the image processing. The Snapdragon 625 has pretty decent low light image processing but I don't think it's as good compared to something like the sd 820, 821 or even 835.
