MOD Republic Wireless MMS Application use 3rd party (some) - Moto X General

Hi guys i'm working on testing different SMS/MMS Applications on my Motox. Now I know that they do not support 3rd party Applications. But please say what SMS app you would use if you could. List your favorites. Thank You
Ok so here is what i'm up to, I have managed to get some SMS programs working on Republic Wireless by modifing a few things. Here is the list.
Ok guys the wait is over. I'm going to release this and hope for some response to see if it works for everyone.
If this causes you to go on a rampage and wreak havoc, that's on you, Also Bricks! (but brick soooo not likely with this lol)
Things you should do prior,
Backup(Do I really need to say this anymore) So yes backup just in case, You have been warned!
TWRP 1.8.4 (Tested with TWRP but others could work)
Brain?

Code:
Name = Republic Wireless
MMSC= http://localhost
MMS Proxy = 127.0.0.1
MMS Port = 18181
MCC = 310
MNC = 000
WORKING!
Stock MMS (clearly)
Hangouts (Thanks RW!)
Google Messenger (No mod needed but a bit of trickery)
Go SMS PRO (Modded files needed)
ChompSMS (Modded files needed)
Handcent SMS (Modded files needed)
EvolveSMS (Modded files needed)
Hello SMS (I think this worked prior, not sure)
NOT WORKING!
HoverChat aka ninjaSMS (No MMS over WIFI only 3/4G)
Textra (Looks similure to ChompSMS but no go!)
Yaata (No Go)
Extra notes: I've had to send a MMS with 3g first for some of the apps to start taking WiFI mms.
My wifes phone refuses to work with this for some reason... unless i manually place the .apk's and install the /data/app/ one.
If you don't see Republic Wireless in your apps then flash the Return_To_StockRW.zip to return to safety.
I'm not very good at working with the Updater-script so it might be me messing something up here. Please test it and let me know. (If you see something i'm doing wrong please help me out) Thanks
I need more apps to try guys!
Just noticed I put this in General! Can a Mod please move me to Q&A, Thank you and i'm sorry.

What modded files are needed to get these working? I tried for the longest time to get MMS working in Evolve and couldn't get it going, so I eventually settled on Hangouts when Republic pushed their fix for that.

I'll be releasing flashable Zips later once I have a solid list. You need to mod the republic wireless app.
Ok i'll be updating this later with more information and the needed zips.
Note you will need root for this to work, but since you are flashing them that's just a given.

Ok I need some info from you guys. Seems my wife has a different version on her phone and my updater will not work for her...yet.
So can you please let me know what file you have.
Here is the location /data/app/
The file is one of these I think..
com.bandwidth.rw-1.apk
com.bandwidth.rw-2apk
com.bandwidth.rw-3.apk
Please check for me and post what file name you have. Note that they are the same file just different name.

It's com.bandwidth.rw-1.apk for me, and it should match for anyone else who flashed their RW Moto X from the 4.4.2 .sbf or the rooted update.zip built from the .sbf that was posted on XDA some time ago.

Thanks

I installed the mod with no apparent issues, then installed EvolveSMS and set it to default SMS client. I modified the APN setting for Evolve and then sent and received picture MMS and group text MMS both on cellular and wifi. Although I was happy enough with Hangouts, I never got notifications for messages in group texts before, so being able to use another app will be very helpful for me. I'll try other applications out and report what I find later. Thanks kicker22004!

Republic Wireless MMS problem
The best solution for this is to uninstall all Republic Wireless app updates. Remove all updates until it is set to stock. Now restart your phone and your MMS should start to work. This worked for me.

Thanks for the feedback guys. To add more applications you need to decompile the Rw update and modify the MMShelper.smali. don't forget to sign the update! Also keep your backup because if rw updates their so you can not install it without reverting back. They signed the system apk is why.

I wonder why some don't work. Another to try is Falcon SMS.

Sorry but this is long past gone. I have dropped it since 4.4.4 due to no commentary.
Update: I just took a look at falcon and it looks great! I might see about making a special build for 4.4.4 that allows just that as an extra, assuming I can get it to work.

Curious if you think this would work to allow hangouts mms support on lollipop for RW. I managed to enable the APN settings in hangouts in lollipop by using an Xposed module, XHangouts. With this enabled and set up for RWs APN, mms does not immediately receive an error in hangouts, but it still does not send properly. I am using Moto X 2013 with an unlocked bootloader. Any thoughts?

Back on the older versions of hangouts it would work. I have sold off my moto x and are now on the N6P so I can't really help you much. Good luck

Phone.apk Question

This is a total noob question, so feel free to hit me.
I really like this Phone.apk from the N1. It works just fine on my phone, but when you bring up the dialpad in a call, the last row is slightly covered up (it was obviously designed for a higher resolution phone). It's not a huge deal, because you can still press the buttons. I was going to fix it with apktool but simply resigning the file causes it not to work anymore. Does anyone know how to fix this? I didn't think files in system/app needed to be signed.
hey i know this doesnt answer your question,
but i was able use the youtube.apk from the Evo on my unrooted eris
how come i cant use this on my phone as well?
it just says, application not installed
I guess the answer to my question is this is just a plain system file which is open source so I should not need apktool. Since it was so different, I thought it was custom.
To answer the previous post, you cant install this file. It has to be pushed or flashed since it requires replacing the original system file which requires root access.
I can look into resizing some things for you, but I'm wondering, how did you get this to work on your phone?
I pushed it to system/app and it worked when I made a cal, but as soon as i got a call, it fc'd and I lost my signal.

It works great on CE. No problems. I'm only running 1.0 right now, though.
EDIT: Chevelle1768 found a working copy with the buttons correctly spaced in darchstar's Darchdroid v2.6.5. It works awesome. I pushed both Phone.apk and Contacts.apk to my phone. Just don't do it while your phone is actually on. Flash it in recovery. IMO, it's a much better dialer than the other stock one. Don't try this with Sense, though. I'm not sure what would happen.

hmmm... I pushed the phone and contacts apk as as soon a s I did my signal went dead. Even if I try *228 I get an error : "Not Registered on a Network"
I'm running Senseless 1.0
Phone.apk is not what you think it is. It is not the dialer.
Well, ok, it handles the in call experience. Contacts.apk I think is what actually contains the dialer. In any event, the interface that this Phone.apk file has is better. Instead of having to tap your menu key to bring up in call actions (ie. mute, bluetooth, end call, add call, etc ...) all of the options are right there on the screen already. It even has a button to show/hide the dialpad. And the dialpad does not just spring up like the app drawer, it appears on the screen above the buttons.
I'm not sure which ROMs this will work on, but it definitely works on CE. It may work on other Cyanogen based ROMs as well.
Here is a screen shot in case anyone is wondering.

yes but how come i was able to overwrite the youtube app on my phone then?
If you're not rooted, that means you have Sense which this does not work with anyhow. If you somehow managed to install this without root, you would brick your phone for sure.
I want that dialer on my Eris!!! I've been searching for a way to do this for weeks but have come up empty. Will this work on Evil Eris since it has some Sense components still?
So which file did you install that was spaced correctly, can you link to it? Can you also post the contacts .apk? Also, Can you please tell me how to "push" it to the phone, is that the same as flashing?
Sorry for n00b questions but I'm desperate for this dialer!!!

Check my third post. There is a link to Darchdroid. This looks like it only works on Cyanogen based ROMs.
Do this in recovery so your phone does not have a fit.
Code:
adb remount
adb push Phone.apk /sdcard/Phone.apk
adb shell
# mv /system/app/Phone.apk /system/app/Phone.bak
# cp /sdcard/Phone.apk /system/app/
# reboot

Data/3g network fix for XT720_XDA_Special_STB2

First, make sure you have background data on in settings/accounts & sync
You can try Apn Manager to set your apn settings
if those don't
Find a fix here, it worked for me not sure if it's the best way
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16200053&postcount=365
My apn settings seems to work with only the data files of the first special stock (i don t do all the apn stuff)
But i have a lot of others issues
The first time i try it with out the data from the first special stock i had my google account and i had the phone process problem again....
I restore the data from nandroid and then the french language disapear......
ANd the biggest problem is that i can t connect my google account it always tell me that i don t have a network connection but all the other apps go to the net with out a problem...
And i have this problem only with the data from the first stock....
I maybe do something wrong... I install the nandroid image on the singapore sbf and my card is already part like it must be (fat 32 ext3 and swap).
I m right???? Maybe someone could make a new topic explaining all the step because it become more and more difficult to follow all the problems....
I don t try the boot.img or the others a2sd gui things...

Are you on wifi? Can you send pics via text or email? If you get that text document and find your apn settings from that list and add it to the text document then replace it /etc/apns-conf.xml you will get your data and 3g network back. I thought I had my network to cause I was able to text and make calls and stuff, but didn't. it only worked for calls and texts, not data. Also make sure you have background data turned on in settings

I would expect that to work.
Replacing apns-conf.xml file WORKED!!
here for everyone who isn't able to fix 3g - just download this file :
http://www.share-online.biz/dl/8DB1TBPLWR
this is the old apns-conf.xml file from xda special alfa_h ROM.. you need to delete old apns-conf.xml file in /etc/ directory (you get there by using root explorer & co) and copy this download-file there.. just reboot -> 3g / internet data should work now. if it doesn't , you can try wiping cache / data , for me it only worked after factory reset then..
and here are also those two data-files from x_special_alfa_h ROM, I don't know in what way they might be needed for 3g fix here, but just try copying them into sdcard/nandroid/OpenRecovery/XT720_XDA_Special_STB2 and then get into OR->nandroid->restore ALL

thanks.
Just go to Google Play get the official Microsoft mail application called: Hotmail Seven +, and configure it for Push, much more reliable than the stock mail client.
I'm trying to add Microsoft Exchange Server for work not Hotmail.
incidentally, if you're on exchange 2010 or office 365 then the mail client called touchdown ****s all over the stock client. Plus it will sync all the usual plus outlook notes...

Thanks so very much.

thanks dr.ketan but those aren't options for me.
A friend rooted my device and set it up for me. That friend is busy and so am I these days. Flashing or hard resetting is difficult at this point.
Can't someone point me to the MS Exchange app so I can simply re-install it?
Thanks.
Try this first

If not works

Dr ketan,
I downloaded ES File Explorer but it didn't let me copy the file.
So i enabled Root settings in the settings of ES File Explorer then i also needed to Mount File System in settings to copy the file. I did that.
But it says file not Installed.
I dismounted system file but still doesn't let me install email.apk.
Thanks for your patience.
I m not familiar with es file explorer
But for root explorer, u just need to copy n paste to systrm/app folder you have to just press on w/r on top once before it.
Then long press on file n change the permission rw r r (just look othet apk there)
You need not to install, once you put file thr is enough.

Best to reflash a stock rom, and or the rom of your preference to get it back and be careful with removing stuff next time

@ketan:
email.apk is (in samsung roms) only the widget, there are also the "exchange services", which might be also important in this case.
also, which email version to choose (or for us: to provide) depends heavily on the OP's rom! if he is on ICS the GB email.apk wont work, even if he is on AOSP the stock samsung email.apk wont work, due to missing parts in the framework!
@OP:
if a data wipe is not enough (which i doubt, cause i guess the system app from /system/app is missing) you would have to reflash your system partition as well. then it should work again!

Many thanks for your detailed response.
I am running the following:
model #: GT-N7000
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: N7000XXLA4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.14-ver.3.2
[email protected] #3
Build number: Rocket-v19-XXLA4-eybee1970
I'm apprehensive about flashing or formatting because I am not very familair with the process.
A friend of mine rooted my device then installed rocket rom for me. I mean I know about it and watched him do it but to do it myself would require a lot of time. Then also I'll have to edit my device to get it to the way I want it... a hassle.
Why cant someone check what .apk files are needed for the exchange server on their device.
I will cross-check mine and the ones that are missing from mine will be added.
Should be as straightforward as that I think.
Thanks guys.

Motorola Charm update to CM7 (Android v2.3.7 gingerbread)

Hi, I recently updated my Charm to CM7 and I thought I should share with you guys.
1. First of all your device should be rooted with SuperOneClick or any other method (if you don't know how to do it search on google)
2. Download Flipout System Recovery from the market.
3. Download CM7 ROM here.
https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B_9PVhD7VHclc29JcWRFeWVWZFU&export=download
4. Download Google Apps here
https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B_9PVhD7VHclMHdnUHFNdDBPV3M&export=download
5. Put both the CM7 ROM and the Google Apps on the root of the sdcard.
6. Open FlipOut Recovery and select Install Recovery System. Grant it superuser permission. After that select Recovery Boot
7. Wipe data, cache and open Advanced and wipe Dalvik cache
8. Select "install zip from sdcard" - "choose zip from sdcard" - select the CM7 ROM and go to - yes - and wait until finish installation, then use the same procedure to install the Google Apps.
9. Repeat step ''7'' again
10. Reboot and enjoy CM7.
I didn't have any problem(s) doing it so I hope it goes smoothly for you
Note: If it ain't broken don't fix it

hello friend, I want to install this 2.3.6 gb my MB502 charm, but in steps, the market can not find any "Flipout System Recovery"
I have understood that this recovery is only for "motorola flipout", there is a section in the forum where they mentioned "FlipOut Recovery (CWM based v2.5.1.2)" does not mention charm, motorola charm MB502 is "[PORT] [CWM v5.0.2.6] Boostrapped Recovery for Charm and Flipside "or am I wrong?
incase you haven't noticed, Flipout and Charm share certain qualities because they're both Motorola phones besides why do you think this forum is under Flipout and Charm General.
just install the app and follow the instructions above, you should have no problems.
and i'll be very gratefull if you could help me with my research(check above). Please!
here is the app. enjoy

What works and what doesn't work?
edit: I went ahead and flashed and so far so good but i noticed that it's only 2g. Anyway to switch it to 3g or is this a bug?
I've worked some things just do not work properly,
1. In the text message box, when you have text messaging on it, when you hit menu button gives FC.
2. No LED notifications work on haptic buttons, so it is impossible to know if you have received a missed call or text message.
NOTE: As a note I recommend making a backup of "system / etc / motorola / bp_nvm_default" because if not for your country will lose the signal.
Seem like it picks up 3g but doesnt reflect on the status bar also the status bar doesnt update so everything just overlaps. only way to get rid of the overlapping is to hold power button and hit reboot and the status bar will refresh and did notice the messaging app closes when one hits menu.
ok .. thank you for his contributions .. and q pasaria if I replace the folder etc original for etc cm7? Or only the file of sign?
I created this forum because I had no serious problems on my device, am sorry that it had different effects on our device.
My only problem is the 3g, keyboard doesn't show on screen and am sure there is a problem with the orientation.
For the network problems make sure you backup the network folder before the update.
If you have any problem with the network let me know cause I have a baseband switcher app which am working on, you could try it if you want:thumbup:

My friend raymondadutwum, almost perfect:
- The USB connection isn't working properly. I set the USB connection for Memory Card Access but I don't see it on the PC (W7 Ultimate). The battery is charging when I connect on the PC and I don't show to me any error connecting my MB502 on the PC;
- Do you know how to disable the Backtrack?
For now, everything else is working very well =D
Thanks a lot by your directions. Cheers from Brasil
Edu
Well I figured out that 3g works but you have to change your network preferences to gsm/wcdma (wcdma preferred) also I wouldn't mind trying that baseband switcher app. The only thing that really bugs me is that the notification bar doesn't refresh so as soon as I get a notification it'll just overlap on top of whatever was there and eventually just looks like a mess. anyone know of any settings I can enable/disable as a work around?
*Update
Please, forget about the USB connection. My mistake. Now I found the 2nd option on the notification bar to enable the use of the USB storage LOL
So, I just wanted to know how to:
1 - disable the backtrack
2 - modify the look of that bar at right (resize the icons)
Other questions:
3 - What about the Boo ROM - Boo-CM-7-20130930-RC4 v0.7.3? Who tested? Would be nice to know about the results.
4 - Who is actually working to port the CM7 for Charm MB502?
Long life to MB502 (at least while I don't have money for a new smartphone LOL)
Edu
Some bugs (an update)
- The backtrack: how to disable?;
- To insert numbers on the numeric fields (ex. clock) it's necessary to use the ALT button;
- The mail and camera buttons of the keyboard are not working;
- Display rotation is not working.
I'll bring more information while using the smartphone.

It seems my wifi no longer works with WPA2 networks. It works fine with the stock ROM. WPA1 works fine from a hotspot, but its not very secure. Anyone experience the same thing?
Otherwise, its pretty good!

[Question for MM users] Uninstalling Facebook makes your Auto rotation stop working?

*** ONLY DO THIS FOR TESTING PURPOSE ***
Those who have got the MM update, could you please check whether uninstalling Facebook app via Titanium makes your auto rotation to stop working? Some say it doesn't, some say it does.
I took a screen record while uninstalling it, make sure you are doing the exact same steps. For the record, uninstalling ONLY the apk is enough to mess it up, I still went on and removed the other Facebook system stuffs out of frustration.
Please comment.
I always uninstall Facebook & "company" and other trash again, and never had problems with rotation on kitkat , lollipop and marshmallow.

Have you solve it?
It seems that is true, and after flashing the stock rom and uninstalling lot of bloatware (except all the facebook stuff) auto rotation works now.

Yes, by re-flashing the stock ROM[emoji23]And then not touching those Facebook related craps.
PS:
@HDxDaniel
Could you tell me whether you have uninstalled any of these apps? Because I don't use these! S Voice isn't listed as it's a system app, I don't use that either.

I uninstalled most of those apps except Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Play newsletter and maybe another app too.
I noticed one thing today, if you use an app like System App Remover, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jumobile.manager.systemapp&hl=en
, then uninstall Facebook and other craps, then the rotation works normally. So it could be Titanium doing something crazy here, don't know!
I have the same problem (or I think so), I removed Facebook and Instagram applications with titanium backup and noticed my screen can't auto-rotate now
Anyone can upload the libgnustl_shared.so file ? I don't feel like flashing the whole system file again...
Thanks

After flashing the zip from the first post of this thread, the screen rotation is working again, seems like removing Samsung hub with titanium backup messed things
It looks like only reflashing the stock FW will help
I had the same problem tried every possible solution in this forums none worked
Maybe titanium or i flashed ios emoji for google keyboard!! But that never happened when was on Lollipop!! Now back to Odin
lol

Here you are my friend:
http://www27.zippyshare.com/v/QruHxan5/file.html
@yucelo I've already found the file in another thread, but thanks anyway
This happened to me multiple times on Lollipop.
Use a file manager with root capabilities and uninstall the .apk files manually

Somebody, give this man a medal! Saved my butt reflashing ROM again. Just copy to system/lib change permission to rw-r--r-- and reboot. You think it's caused by Titanium Backup? In that case? We should notify them.
yeah..... I got this too 2 days ago.
I uninstall some bloatware, including facebook with titanium backup.
then I realize that screen rotation doent work anymore.
I check the gyro, gravity, accel sensor. all works fine, but screen rotation wont work.
So I restore my backup ROM, and everything is fine again.
and yeah.... I just tried uninstalling facebook again, but this time I use System App Remover https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jumobile.manager.systemapp&hl=en
auto rotation is still works.
Same here... I've done some testing removing bloatware and it's Titanium Backup's fault... I had to reflash the custom rom I'm using several times to reach this conclusion...
I had the same problem, & for whatever reason that version of the file failed to work for me. I had success with this one, following the same steps. https://www.4shared.com/file/ivpHIjBNce/libgnustl_shared.html

Out of curiosity, where did you get that file from?
I've just made a flashable zip with my working libgnustl_shared.so so I can replicate the issue later on and see if this solution works for me...
I downloaded this rom, extracted the zip, & copy pasted libgnustl to system/lib & changed permissions. Hopefully the individual upload will save someone else 1.49gb
The other version of libgnustl that was posted here didn't work for me, I tried it 3-4 times. My phone is a N910T.
It was a happy accident- I was planning on following someone else's success of extracting system.img.ext4 & flashing that file with skip soft, or more likely reverting to stock before I thought 'what if...'
A big thank you to everyone who shared the info to finding a solution
