Improving touchscreen sensitivity similar to iphone, yeah you heard me... - Note Edge General

So coming from a iPhone 6 plus, there are one thing that I miss about the Apple The fact that I could type heaps faster on the touchscreen while even if I tried countless 3rd party keyboards (Swiftkey, Google Keyboard, Ect...) but I recently downloaded the "SGS Touchscreen Booster from the Google play store. No root is needed for this app.
My current settings are: <recommend using the s-pen to get the exact value>
Sensitivity* 80
Duration to register touch* 0
Minimum motion* 0
Motion filter* 70
Multi-touch points* 5
{check} Start service on boot
There should be a huge decrease in the lag that the keyboard from the inputs.
Feel free to share your own settings, as these were the ones I got from a random blog and it seems to work great on my phone.

Thanks for recommending this app! I found when I typed really fast the keyboard struggles to keep up and would as a result somehow replicate some words I type. So far it hasn't happened after installing this and the keyboard seems to register a lot faster!

There is also a higher-sensitivity mode built in for when wearing gloves etc...
Settings > Display and wallpaper > Increase touch sensitivity
I haven't tested it for more than a couple of minutes but it did seem to make a difference

Near the bottom of the app window, it states that "*Less value means more sensitivity". You're suggesting changing sensitivity from default value of 40 to 80 meaning reducing sensitivity. It doesn't make any sense here. The only settings reducing the keyboard lag seem to be duration to register and minimum motion settings. Someone correct me if I am wrong please?

I've actually had a lot of success using the Fleksy keyboard. I haven't been able to text without looking at the phone in so long. It's a breath of fresh air.
Sent from my SM-N915T using XDA Free mobile app

I've tried this but when on the phone wakes up in my pocket and dings as the screenew constantly tries to unlock as I'm walking

Yeah I noticed that, I assumed it was to balance out all the other settings that you have changed. I feels great to me actually. As the optimized/super optimized presets seem to jittery to me. Well its just my preference to go with these settings, as I found them on a online blog and worked flawless with me.

Touch HD - Day 1 - Questions

Ok.. so i wont bore you with my mock review until the end, so that I can get some questions out first : (Im coming from a Wizard)
1) In the wizard, I was able to click on telephone numbers in MOST applications and dial straight from there. Specifically the web browser. I would search for the name of a place, the first link in google would have the address and number, I would click on the number and be dialing. Im guessing this was a PIE thing, but wanted to see what the deal was
2) The most annoying thing so far, is my inability to highlight multiple items. In my Wizard, I was able to go to the email screen and if there were 8 messages there, I could press firmly into the first message, slide my finger down to the last message and click delete. I am not able to highlight multiple items, and ive tried different pressure settings etc. Help.
3) Similar to 2.... I am unable to highlight text, atleast with my finger, for coy paste purposes
4) I am not able to get the setting where face down will mute the ringer. Ive tried Diamond Tweak, manual registery editing, nothing. Face down... the phone will ring everytime
5) When someone sends me a youtube link in an email and I click on it, it takes me to the youtube page (im on edge so, slowly) but cant get the youtube video to play. It loads the page, except the video window
6) What is the ideal screen sensitivity and pressure settings in the registry. Its the one thing that im a bit surpsied by, I know it is not a capacitive screen, but it takes some getting used to how much pressure it requires compared to an iPhone screen for example
I will write about my impressions after two more days to give myself ample time to get used to it so there is no wizard bias... :0

This is something I'd be particularly interested in .
Even though I use currently a phone with a capacitive screen I own a Wizard too. How would you say is the difference to the Wizard respectively how would you rate the sensitivity generally?
I'm answering to what I know...

In the message screen go to "Menu->Select->Some" then you will be able to select a group of items.

This works for me!

This is due to lack of flsh support in Opera 9.5. You can play flash videos within CorePlayer.

I had an iPhone, gave it to my wife... the iphone screen is awesome, from day one, responsiveness, finger touch etc etc. The Wizard screen was ok, the feel wasnt there, but then again it wasnt big and i wasnt doing much with my finger anyway. Compared to the Wizard, the Touch HD is better, but since you are doing so much more on the screen and with your finger, it isnt as good as it needs to be. Twice the pressure is needed from the iphone, it doesnt "feel" good under my finger, feels like i have to fight against it to scroll the TF3D scroll thing (again comparing a resisitve screen to a capacitive one). Touch wise, it is excellent, I dont have to force buttons or anything. Im mainly complaining about gestures and TF3D. Overall finger friendliness, if the iphone is an 8, then the touch HD is a 6 and the wizard is a 4.
For 4: It can be done, I've been lurking around here for days now and I recall seeing an app that covers this exact thing - I *think* it's either SKTools or the Advanced Customisation Tool - I'm about to load up on or the other shortly, so if I find out I'll be back and let oyu know (if you haven't found it already in the meantime of course!)
6 : again I've seen some mention of registry setting alteerations to adjust this - but for me, I've used the same method as I did on my diamond and my screen is VERY sensitive - enough for me anyway.
Go and fire up the screen alignment process again - this time when doing it use the stylus and hover over the cross hair then very lightly rest it on the cross hair center - applying a tiny amount more pressure until it moves (it moves with a v. small amount of pressure) - seems to set pressure from this process to some extent. Whether or not this REALLY works, or it's utter placebo I truly dont know - but mine's totally fine and that's all I did Worth a shot I guess
The TouchFLO interface might mean that finger pressure always translates as scrolling, but if you want to select anything then you have to use a fingernail or the stylus. This is how it works on my Touch (Elf) - to scroll the screen I have to use the pad of my finger. If I use a more pointed pressure then I'm selecting stuff. I quite like this system - it differentiates between sweeping gestures and detailed touches.
Try using the stylus or a fingernail to select text or multiple emails. It might work.
(If it doesn't then I'll be annoyed too!)

I too would like to know if Opera can do what the OP wants in question 1?? That is one thing I love about my Iphone as it doesn't have a cut and paste but I can just click on the number in safari.
Can Opera do this? I was also looking at Skyfire today and was wondering if it did this and also when/if it will be available soon in the UK?
The select several option for email works.. so one problem down. Also ive realized that the screen sensitivity is just something I will have to get used to.
I have installed Flash Lite 3.1 for you tube and it seems to be working fine.
More updates as I have em. Anyone know why number links arent clickable in the browser?
Good thread, clears some things up.
I wonder how the pressure thing is.
How does it compare to an Elf (my current/old device) for example?
My HD should be in the mail tomorrow, but you never know with TNT mail.
I think its one of those things... you jsut need to get used to it...

Modded ROM vs. standard ROM keyboard lag difference?

Hi. I have been running a couple of modded ROMs and the htc_ime i install on those ROMs is always laggy and somewhat buggy. Is it the same with standard ROM?
One of the bugs i have noticed is that sometimes, when i press space it just goes nuts and creates a period(dot) and just continues to make spaces for a short period. And this has happened on several ROMs.
It's the HTC_IME, not the ROM. the HTC keyboard is designed to put a period and two spaces when / if you hold the keyboard for too long. I haven't looked at the actual code to see how many milliseconds it is, but that is what is happening. Try to tap the space bar quicker and it should be fine.
Thanks for your reply, but thats not whats happening. I press space fast enough. I am aware of the fact that it puts out a dot if you hold it or tap it twice . It does not explain why it continues to make spaces after it makes the dot. It goes totally bananas
Its a setting.
I have a custom rom but im almost certain that the setting is a standard feature.
Its called "Add a space after dot" or equal and you should find it in the settings for input and text.
Good luck.

I also know this is considered a feature, and I intentionally have it on. HOWEVER, there is often keyboard lag, where you can quickly tap on a key, and the software does not recognize that it was a quick tap and processes it as if you held it down for a longer period. With the space bar, you get the period + spaces. I frequently get the same effect on other keys, yielding numbers, etc instead what I wanted.
The keyboard lag is *awful* and I consider it one of the bigger usability flaws in the mytouch.

Yeah i get that exact same thing. It is REALLY annoying the !#¤% out of me
Try using Super D, I get no lag on the key board and its a great 1.6 ROM. Its possible it could be a hardware issue, try going into the dev tools and click pointer location. See whats going on with your touch screen.

I am using Super D at the moment . Turning the vibration feedback off helped somewhat, but in landscape mode it is still lagging a lot. Tried pointer location, and the screen seems fine to me
FYI, I switched off the predictive text input option on HTC_IME, which got rid of just about all of the lag. It works very well with haptic feedback now. Unfortunately, there's no spell check or anything, so you may have to pay more attention but it is still preferable I think.
The basic problem seems to be that the mytouch simply doesn't have the processing capability to run close to smoothly with all the advertised features, and we have to selectively disable options to try to get a usable product. It's a shame since android itself is quite nice.
I suppose another solution would be to go into the source for one of the keyboard packages and see if it could be made more efficient, but that may be pointless as soon as better hardware comes out.

Screen sensitivity after T-MO Rom update

I have been patiently waiting for the update that was made available yesterday afternoon so I downloaded and updated my phone. Since it resets everything I really didn't get around to doing much with it last night. This morning I started to get my phone setup and noticed the sensitivity seems to have worsened, sometimes considerably, over what I had before.
Scrolling has become less responsive, the X (close) button needs to be pressed a few times rather frequently, the buttons on the bottom row of the screen do not seem to respond very well either anymore, and lastly it just doesn't quite feel the same. Of all the problems I have been having with my HD2, screen sensitivity (accuracy could be a bit better) was not one of them until now.
Is there a way to calibrate the screen that I was not able to find on the phone? Anyone else notice any difference after updating?
Thanks in advance for any help!
I'm having the same issue but over all the new ROM is more stable.
Align
Start > Settings > All Settings > System > Scroll down to Align
Cheers
Also look for an App called TouchMark (think I found it on OMarket).
Neat little App that shows you exactly where you are touching the screen.
Maybe you have lost your touch
Also I use BsB to lower sensitivity of the screen which assists me greatly with typing.
Thanks for the tip but the "align" button is not in that folder on my phone. I searched and didn't find it anywhere else either.
After having a full day use with my phone the screen sensitivity is still a bit flaky, I would say it is worse than it was before I upgraded the rom. As for stableness, I have had several random data disconnects and small lags here and there that I didn't notice before. Unfortunately the audio lag has not been fixed. I should quit while I am ahead.
The summary is I want them to get the basic functionality of the phone to work and in doing so, please do not mess up the few things that are working, such as screen sensitivity. I am curious how long before the next rom update.
On a separate note, does anyone know where we can see a list of what they fixed in this rom?
Thanks!
Align?
Start > Settings > All Settings > System >"""screen""',, then align on mine hd2
??? are people on this thread a little confused??
going to the screen settings is NOT going to fix what the rom update did... the scrolling is considerably worse... not the accuracy...
for some reason, when i scroll through things.. its slow, laggy, and choppy.. its probably the most ridiculous "update" ever.. it simply made the phone worse... i wish i could go back to my previous rom.. before the official update.. i had absolutely NO problems with the scfreen sensitivty.. in fact.. i had no issues with it at all.. don't even know why i upgraded... pity...
and there is a fix thread floating around the TMobile HD2 forusm somewhere.. but that fix doesn't even get it remotely close to how it used to be.. now if someone could report exactly what the settings are on the stock TMoUS rom in the registry BEFORE updating to the official update.. it would help out enormously for the hackers who can fix what TMo has done to our phones...
people people dont fret!! just install HD2Tweak and look for the option that allows you to increase sensitivity and there ya go! there are 4 levels of sensitivity and i set mine to high and its perfect.
Iquigley- Unfortunately I do not have a "Screen" button in my system folder...
Just to clarify my original post in case it was confusing, although I believe accuracy could be better I did not notice a change in the accuracy of the screen, just a drop in sensitivity. Scrolling now has a tendency to stick and launch an app instead of actually scrolling. That doesn't seem to be happening as much now so I might have just adjusted to the new "feel" of the phone.
Can anyone confirm that it is just a setting that needs to be changed? At this point I avoid adding new apps to the phone if possible since I am afraid it will break something :s
Thanks!
The screen option in settings is hidden on the T-Mobile HTC HD2. You can make it visible in the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Pen
Set the value of "Hide" to 0 (currently it is 1). Then the screen option will be visible in the system folder under all settings.
i went to do the registry change and cant find pen under control panel, is it under another sub folder?
Thanks Tobiascrystal. I am confused why they would have that hidden in the first place. I have been trying to avoid having to change registry settings but I might just be shooting myself in the foot by doing so. I will check it out.

I have the same issue and after a lot of searching found this:
How to Calibrate the g-sensor
If your orientation is off when you lay your phone on a level surface and can't calibrate it in Android (because many people found it gets corrupted after auto calibration), this is one way to do so. (Winmo g-sensor calibration does not seem to affect android orientation)
Install an app that displays sensor information along with pitch and roll. (such as SensorDebug from Android market)
Put your phone on a level surface such as the floor or a table.
Note your pitch and roll values.
Use rootexplorer or similar file manager to edit /data/misc/AK8973Prms.txt file. (open in text editor) (For ASTRO CHECK POST 70 in page 7)
You will see AOFFSET.x and AOFFSET.y at the bottom. (May be on top if you autocalibrated previously)
y affects pitch and x affects roll, there is about 4 to 1 ratio.
What you are trying to do is make pitch and roll 0 with minimum flicker.
Press and hold home button to switch between rootexplorer and sensordebug. Your changes will be reflected in realtime (with most builds). Go back and forth a few times to get perfect result. (You can press and hold home button to go back and forth) If you think changing values don't have an affect, try to temprorarily change AOFFSET.x=90 and return to your app. When phone is on the table, your leveling bubble or pitch/roll must be way off. This way you can see if with your build changes are reflected in realtime or not. If not try restarting, use different sensor app and give feedback please. (After that revert AOFFSET.x to 0 or other value your want to fix back orientation)
For example:
If pitch is 3 and roll is -1
you may start by
AOFFSET.x=4
AOFFSET.y=-12
Then adjust with 1 increments to get rid of flicker.
It is best to adjust one value at a time.
You can use gpsstatus or bubble app (to find bubble app search the market for bz.ktk.bubble and enable "show angle" from bubble apps settings.) for visual check of orientation calibration. Because of the protruding camera lens of hd2, there can be 1 degree difference between sideways and normal orientation. (It seems you can adjust in about 0.25 degree increments by each 1 increment of AOFFSET and compansate by lowering AOFFSET=y by 2 that gives 0 degrees in both normal and sideways orientation in bubble app)
- You don't need to reboot for most builds (if there is no affect check post 11)
- You don't need to kill/restart akmd
- You don't even need to close sensor app
- Because of not perfect kernel/build support for sensors, you may see them freeze when you move the phone (TS will also freeze). With evo kernels, just wait a few seconds and it will resume. (With nexus kernels they may freeze until sleep/wakeup) Interestingly the values of AK8973Prms.txt affect shake/move freezes. I wrote about this in post 10 and 11.
IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO BACKUP COMPLETE ANDROID FOLDER BEFOREHAND just in case something goes wrong. Chefs say you shouldn't auto calibrate your g-sensor under Android because with many people it gets messed up. Also good idea to backup your /data/misc/AK8973Prms.txt

Sorry can remember where it got it from... but if this post helps you, hit thanks
Aoffset.x=14
Aoffset.y=-26
Aoffset.z=10
Is my tweaked zeroed values. It should give you almost perfect level. If not then adjust it by increments ±1or 2
It wierdly off balance and you can’t exactly zero it in non sense versions for some reason.
Oh and remember that if you want to try to make it level yourself, make sure to take off case and balance it on the camera frame or move the camera out of the way on the edge of the table so the protruding camera doesn't interfere with calibration.
Thank you very much

same thing happened to me

Screen Sensitivity / Not Responsive / Games / Full Screen etc etc

Hi all,
Lost my previous details to XDA so created another account quickly.
So I get my Essential Phone today and love it But like everyone else there are some complaints around full screen mode and screen not responding. Where the Essential Phone dev guys need to look into a disable full screen mode or snap in so the home bar stays at the bottom which might fix some of these issues.
I found something that might help some people. Helped me with the Walking Dead - Road to Survival Game. This is where you get annoying options in corners of the screens that doesn't quite respond! I found this related to the smallest width 'dp' value on the screen resolution.
So I enabled debugging mode and changed the value to 524. Played around with a few different dp values after reviewing what width dp values are for other smartphones and found this to work quite well for the game I play.
Might help some people that do really want to keep this phone!
