OUYA 2 - Ouya General

Big announcement from Xaomi on Google Search saying it may be a new game console? With the rumored Xaomi/Ouya partnership could this be the Ouya 2??
Ouya does deserve some credit. How many companies can claim 1000+ games barring Sony or Microsoft? Grated they are not all top notch games nor should they be. Ouya started as a platform for inspiring game developers and indie players which in my opinion they have done? I know the developers be it a good or bad game spent countless hours putting those games on Ouya? I should think any hardcore gamer should embrace and support taking games back to its roots. Lately Ouya has stepped up to the plate making improvements to its OS and is still adding new games regardless of the bad press?

I thought Ouya still had a agreement with Xiaomi is this no longer the case?

they have an agreement in place with both of them, read it on g+ the other day. I have ouya everywhere running on my rk3288 box ATM duck game tower fall and a few others run fine on it, so not bothered whether they release a new ouya tbh

End of life

How is it the end of it's life? It's just another sales ploy. Look at the xbox 360. Thats been like half the price of a PS3 for like 2 years now. Yet the 360 have sold alot more units.
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk
Its discounted, that does not mean its end of life. In fact its discounted to heck here in the US, but still has a ton of advertising, and support by game companies is INCREASING. My guess is they want to get as many of them out as possible for the PS Suite launch, because all those emulated games are going to be pure profit for them. The more Plays in the wild, the more $5 old games they sell of which there is no distribution or overhead costs.
Hmm maybe a sales ploy! Been here before with products but I an more annoyed with me having paid more than double what the price is now after 2 months.

Obviously they believe that the sale of this device can generate more income overall in sales of games.

Yeah, games that tens/hundreds of thousands of people buy.
H/W with tight anti-pirate security.
The Play just doesn't fall into any of those categories enough to generate the aftermarket revenue.

Lets think about that for a second. Because the Play DOES use an older hardware setup that arguably is probably a lot cheaper to make the most expensive part (the guts) than a newer Dual Core Device with the newest graphics chip.
So maybe the loss is small on these, and easily made up based on the contract kickbacks and eventual game sales.

Stop reading US-only websites (or Microsoft propaganda), and you would know the PS3 is actually outselling the Xbox by some significant margin.... It's how they closed the gap and overtook the Xbox in total sales, despite launching 16 months later.
Also, the PS3 is not double the price. You can pick up a 160GB PS3 for £179...
Dont forget your ps3 3.55 cfw im sure that fw sold many systems alone
Black ops solt for about £45 when it was first out, now its what £20, These are just discounts to sell as many as possible, Will be back up to like £300 - £400 after Xmas

Soulcalibur (iOS)

Is this for real? true arcade/dreamcast version? how come no Android version?
Because ios is a better platform to release stuff on if you look at it from a developers point of view ; but this is also debateable... Here's a link for you to read up on http://mashable.com/2011/12/14/developers-prefer-ios/
These games make a good case for the physical controls on Sony EricssonXperia Play Android phone.
Hope it will be released fo Android soon.
Of course there's a lot of iOS games that would technically be better on android hardware (hence why I ditched my iDevice for an Xperia PLAY), but it's a numbers game, and companies will compromise the integrity of their software's working order if that means they can break into a booming market.
Truth told, this Xperia PLAY kicks my iDevices ass at gaming, but the market isn't exactly booming.

Also with games you have to realize that they aren't making the game for 'Android'. Most games have to use the NDK to get the performance that's equal to iOS. Meaning each proc+GPU combo is like their own platform. Which is why Android games tend to list the compatible phones.
So when you think, look at the number of Android handsets! Surely Android will get X game first! Keep in mind that most game devs have to look at the numbers for models of Phone.
The Xperia Play has it good since it's userbase tends to buy every game out there And there are several phones that are using the same specs.

True 3rd point.
But honestly its all due to piracy.
Anyone with root can pirate so framework needs to be lightly modified.
But its just a cat and rat game after that, devs will encrypt hackers will decrypt

You speak as if Installous and others did not exist.
But the market share for apple to android is ridiculous on top of that updates are constant , for the apps and the os.
I'm quite sure installous got taken down. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks

But honestly piracy start on ios first and still today !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's harder to pirate on ios and since it voids your warranty many people don't jailbreak, thus why it's more profitable to release on ios.. It's also easier since they only have to optimise the App for a few devices to reach millions of people whereas with android and it's hundreds of devices its slightly harder

LOL what? Many people jailbreak. Like over a million people jailbroke their iPad 2 and iPhone 4S in 3 days, that's not even including the older devices.
Jailbreaking does void your warrarnty but it can be fixed with a simple restore. DONE.
Ok piracy is a big problem but people want freedom on there phones.Make a good game like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in online multiplayer. Its a drug!!!!!!!!!!!

Sony files to block use of preowned games on PS4

Just found this. Sony would be stupid to do this. I understand their reasons. But still think its suicide commercially

I don't think they will do this because there was this scare on the ps3 release when people said that the ps3 "engraves" the game disk with a kind of encryption so only that ps3 can read it but Sony did not do that so I dont think they will do this

They created the tech and are patenting it thats all this is, because if they don't someone else will.
There were rumors of this last year, and HUGE public backlash to the point they released a statement saying they would not do it.
If I can't play preowned games on a Playstation 4, F*****uck Sony, I'm serious if I can't play preowned games I will be looking towards Microsoft.
Sony could have had an extra marketing tool by letting people play ps2 games on the original fat ps3's. But they took that away and disabled any such feature. IMO I hope Sony steps back from their gaming console and see that they're murdering it.

Microsoft wants the exact samething.
If this is true then I whole heartedly support it. Game devs make nothing from pre owned sales. You like a particular dev then buy their games brand new

But this would also prevent you taking a game over to a friend's house or lending a game. Furthermore, people trade in games in order to buy new games often but this would also prevent that

It's a necessary trade off
Sent from my R800i using xda premium
Been this way on the PC for years due to single use codes. No-one will trade in PC games, hence why Steam has become so prolific.
The flipside of this could be that because game devs/publishers would be making more profit from sales, retail prices could drop to similar levels as PC games. The price of console games is the specific reason my Xbox is just a media centre and my pc is for gaming!!
i hope they do not implement it, and the patent will prevent other to try to implement it
And again... already been confirmed that while they have patented this, they are NOT going to implement it.
BTW if you research the PS3 you'll find that 2-3 versions of the original fat PS3 had PS2 backward compatibility. They worked on it for a while and found a couple problems. First was that not all PS2 games would work. Second was it was adding a huge amount to the cost. People were complaining about how much it cost (and not buying it), and people were complaining and even returning systems because all their PS2 games wouldn't play. They did the smartest thing, cut the R&D expenses and hardware expenses of continuing to develop a dead platform, lowering the price, and eliminating consumer expectation of every game working. Its called business

I did look a little into it and Rogue Leader is correct, they have patented it. And in regards to the PS2 compatibility why do we t hink the PS2 is still around, at least until the current supplies are in stock... been confirmed EOL for PS2.
Thats probably why thge PS2 12 years later is still around as PS2 compatibility was dropped from PS3.
So with that in mind I guess this particular thread can be close as theres no need in keeping a thread open that would just confuse people...... unless of course $ony does decide to use this patent, but again it doesnt look like it, thye simply patented it.
What you guys seem to be forgetting is that sony is a business. Not your intimate family member. If you owned a company, profit would be one of your highest priorities if you were in Sony's position. Secondly, just because they applied for a patent does not mean they are going to use it. The ps3 and the xbox 360 currently have the functionality to block the use of pre-owned games, they aren't. Publishers are already making you buy "online passes" if you buy pre-owned games and want to play them online, this could be what Sony was going for. There have been rumours of microsoft also looking into a similar system. But wait, lets not bash the messengers, you also have to consider third part developers. They're more than likely pressuring Sony+Microsoft as they also don't recieve anything from pre-owned purchases. Now, please stop with the hate.
EDIT- Some of the points have already been made in this thread.

I remember reading this a few days back and thinking this won't make any difference.
Sony has to ask themselves why a developer would dedicate time and resources to their market place when there is already one with a substantially bigger audience to target? What does this one offer that others do not? The Playstation brand still has some clout with people but it doesn't have the level I think required to push Playstation Mobile (as is) on a mass scale.
Sony should look at investing more of their own time and resources before they come to expect it of developers. They should add PS Classics currently wasted on the Vita to drum up some initial interest in the concept, and obviously they can't rely on past games forever so they should lead by example and launch some new kickass titles themselves.
I was interested in Playstation Mobile before launch but what I've seen thus far does not interest me.
I added this to the comments on the link in post 1.
Gun Commando is the only decent game there, the rest are junk in my opinion. Installed PSM on my PLAY for about 2 weeks and deleted it. Here s a good move Sony, drop the damn $5 increments when you buy a game. I had $2 and wanted to buy a game that was $3. Sony makes you pay $5 so you then have $7, then if you dont spend it Sony still has your money. Its freaking horse sh!t and robbery of the worst kind. Shame on you $ony.
Perhaps its a bit harsh but the fact they take $5 increments only is robbery. Who wants to dump $5 just to get $2 for a game.... its asinine. In the world of the anti-christ in American Dad - "Smell my a$$"...... sorry just PSM was a huge let down, was looking forward to it and I dont even look at it... terrible. Although I do appreciate a certain member here in XDA XP who updated the thread for PSM each week.
It's going to be interesting, seeing as Sony doesn't allow free games (well, they must have DLC) on the store. While I agree on the audience front, I've enjoyed PSM development in a language I understand well and can take part as a hobby. Somehow, my silly Snake remake has sold over 700 copies!
PSM does have its flaws (no trophies/leaderboards/auto updates) but the messages coming out of Sony suggest they aren't giving up on it yet. However, in my opinion making the dev license free may not have the effect Sony expected; yes there will be an explosion in games but it's a question of quality (I'm not saying Snake is amazing, it has no sound and I'm still supporting it, but it's 79p) and whether Sony is going to actually support the platform.
