[Help Please!] SIM card issue - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am having a strange issue with my SIM card and my S4(9505), I was originally using Vodafone UK but I switched to EE roughly 6 months ago and everything was fine to start with. Then about 3 months ago, the phone would give an error saying SIM card removed and prompt me to restart the device, this would happen about once a day so it wasn't unbearable, however, recently it started giving the same error every 10-20 minutes and now it will not detect my EE SIM at all. The strange thing is, the Vodafone SIM I previously used works perfectly fine. Also, the EE SIM works fine in other devices.
TL;DR:
Phone not detecting EE SIM card but working fine with other networks.
Phone Info
ROM: Omega V40
Android: 4.4.2
Baseband/LTE (Modems): XXUGNG8
Condition: No major drops / damage
What I have tried so far
Replacement SIM from carrier - Same problem
Replacement SIM/SD card reader - Same problem
Taking apart and cleaning whole device with compressed air - No help
Detaching and Reattaching all connectors/ribbon cables on the motherboard - No help
Wipe cache/Dalvik - No help
Wipe data/factory reset - Same issue
Revert to stock ROM - No help
Flash full stock firmwares for EE, Vodafone and unbranded - Same issue with every one, as well as 'android.process.acore has stopped constantly'
Airplane mode trick, as described here(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2698621#post58245416) (multiple times) - No help

Anybody have any idea?

I Have the same issue. Its is happening more than once in a day. Drives me crazy.
It started when I installed Omega. So I reverted back to another ROM. I think it is something with the CSC or the baseband.
Anyway, I don't have a solution yet.

really annoying simcard fail

Heya,
I bought a 2th hand MDA pro in working order. I used it for a day or 2 when a problem appeared in the form of a Missing simcard message, out of nothing. I took the simcard out cleaned it and put it back in and it worked again, a few hours later the same error showed I cleaned the sim again booted up the phone and error was still there this went on for 4 times before I got it working again.
I started to search forums about this problem en stumbled upon a few suggesting that the sim holder was flacky and a piece of paper between the battery and card would work.
I did this and on first it looked like it was fixed because it ran for a day before it got back.
By now I changed the simcard -no success- I flashed the phone with 4 different roms including the original one - no success-
I'm running out of ideas with this does anyone had the same problem or are there any suggestions of what it might be?
Please help!

I have had this error before, but usually as a result of a build incompatability. I would suggest you try 2 things. re flash the radio to a different version 1.15 or 1.18 & try using Tomal's 8.2 ROM. Also try a SIM card (borrow one from a friend)from another service provider.

I know this is a really annoying problem, I had it with my Nokia E61 before (and still). After a week of sim registration failures, I decided to switch to another phone, (universal). I didn't got any solutions really, one is force the phone into gsm only, and uncheck confirm smscheck if possible.

[Q] SIM Card issue

Hi all,
I have a strange issue that I don't know how to fix.
This evening while using my phone I suddenly got SIM card not recognized message. I have tried these things to no avail:
-In "Settings" I can find my networks but my phone won't connect on them
-Powering down, pulling my SIM card out and reinserting it. No change
-Since I'm on CM12 I did factory reset and rolling back on previous versions of Nightly's. Still no change
-Again doing factory reset and installing SlimKat 9.0. No change
-Rolling even more back after another full wipe to SlimKat stable 7.0. Still got "Insert Sim Card"
I have flashed latest modem and bootloader when I migrated from SlimKat to CM12 since I was loosing signal when locking phone and that worked all until this evening.
Can anyone help please?
EDIT:
The model is GT-I9505 jfltexx
Update:
Just installed, again, 2/3G and LTE modems... no change
Inserted SIM card fro my wife... no change
You likely have a hardware issue. But before you go and replace the SIM card slot, revert to a stock ROM and see if that resolves the issue. Start with stock 4.4.2 and see if that works, then roll back to stock 4.2.2 if it doesn't. With luck, rolling back to one of the stock versions will resolve your problem. If it does, then you should be able to migrate back to SlimKat. If it doesn't, it will cost you about $10 USD (€9.41, BAM/KM18.35).
I encountered the same issue, and in my case not only was the SIM tray damaged but I had also lost my SIM unlock. Only by downgrading to 4.2.2 was I able to figure out that the SIM unlock was gone, but it wasn't until I had replaced the SIM card slot that I could do something about it.

REWARD!! For anyone who can help me.

Hi Guys,
I will try and keep this as short as possible. I am on contract and have had my numbers for years.
Anyone who can help me will be rewarded.
I had my S6 Edge stolen. Within 30 mins I went to Vodafone (UK) and got a new sim card - cancelling the one in the S6.
The next day I phoned Vodafone to get the IMEI blocked.
I have an S4 I9505 from before my upgrade (Stock 5.0.1, stock Kernel, UK) Now it gets weird...
My sim card will not work in the phone.
My sim card works in any other phone.
Any sim card works in my phone.
MY SIM WILL NOT WORK IN MY PHONE!
I am no tech newbie, I changed the sim tray a couple of times first thinking it was that. Vodafone gave me 3 different sim cards - nothing.
I was in the Vodafone store for 2 hours last night trying to fix it, there are no bars on my account and the phone isn't blocked or barred. The phone is in good condition.
Tried factory reset and format.
If anyone can help me resolve this issue I will be sincerely grateful. If I cannot fix this great phone - I will be forced to buy a new 4G handset.
I currently have my sim in an old iPhone and am using the S4 for everything else, so I am ready to try anything.
Thanks guys in advance.

I prefer you to flash aosp rom like cynogenmod or note 5 port ^_^ . It might help your sim card to get work again. Remember to do backup first and install custom recovery . Warning : Your phone need to be root first . If your phone already rooted then you just do a backup and flash aosp rom
Did you try a factory reset from recovery mode? Reflash a stock ROM? IMEI is properly displayed from the dialler menu (*#06#)?

Broken K920 Air China

Hello,
I had CN ROM version with Kit Kat. Everything worked fine but one day I lose sim cards. I mean sim cards weren't detected and WiFi was 'Switching On' I mean flashing. Phone is constantly restarting by itself. I've done several factory resets, take out the battery and flashed phone with ROW ROOM (I've change the NON-HLOS file to get network) but nothing helped. Flashing went ok and I've got new ROM.
Phone is restarting after few minutes. I can not switch on WiFi and sim cards are not detected. Do you have any solution for that?
Thank you!

"No SIM card detected" & "No service"

Hi all,
I have a problem with my XC, i hope there's someone here who could help me out with this .
I get a SIM card error when i start the phone. After a while (5-10 mins) the error transforms into "No Service" as if the phone now detects the SIM card but has no service whatsoever.
Things i did to my phone prior to this:
- unlocked bootloader
- installed custom recovery
- root
- installed custom ROM
- drm fix
The phone did function properly for a few months actually after these operations without a SIM card error even once. But then i tried to install custom ROMs again (and i'm sure didn't flash ROMs not suited for XC) -actually tried to install "existenz" ROM but i did get a bootloop so i -once again- did the usual procedure with flashtool and flashed a firmware to set everything back to stock as close as possible. That was, when i started to get the SIM card errors. After several restarts (cold and warm) the phone sometimes recognized the SIM card and i could use the phone normally. But this was true only till the next restart, where i got the same SIM errors again.
Things i tried:
- flashed several different firmwares (official) with flashtool (wiping everything) - all the newest firmwares.
- *#*#72786#*#* in dialer to wipe carrier settings
- *#*#4636#*#* in dialer to go into phone settings and changing those settings randomly
- flashed another AOSP based custom ROM instead of stock sony
- wiping and formatting everything between the flashes of course
- cleaning and re-inserting SIM card (which i never took out before anyway)
But unfortunately nothing worked. Phone keeps to not recognizing the SIM card (which is working just fine in another phone). Everything else works just fine on the phone. The IMEI is displaying correct. I'm almost certain that the fault isn't hardware-based (i didn't drop the phone or exposed in water etc.) but software-based. Did i just managed to brick my phone by flashing something related to the modem which i'm not aware of?
I can't find any solutions on google, which help me, which is why i'm posting it here. Sorry for the long post.
Did anyone experience such an error and/or knows what else i could try to fix this? I hope for answers
Thanks in advance!
Anyone?
I've got the same problem.
I didn't unlock the bootloader or anything prior to getting the bug.
I wanted to downgrade to nougat, because aparently it helped someone in the forum below, but I didn't manage to do it.
https:// de.ifixit. com/Antworten/Ansehen/468864/Sim+Card+not+picking+up+mobile+network.+Possible+software+issue+(Oreo)
Did you try nougat, when flashing different firmwares?
Your post makes me question if its worth it, trying to downgrade.
Try to remove sd card if you have one. then restart the phone and see if sim card is recognized.
I had the same problem and I think it was a hardware failure in the end.
I also tried almost all the things you were writing above. In my phone it started slowly. Sometimes the SIM was detected but after some time the connection was lost.
It happened some time after I installed a new battery.
But since there are no original batteries available for the device anymore and the new battery was even worse than the 5 year old original battery, I gave up investigating the SIM issue and don't use the phone any longer.
I bought a new (used) x compact because I still like the size and I saw some development was going on for this device.
In the end I cannot tell whether the SIM was not detected because I broke something while changing the battery or due to age of the phone but I think it was a "normal" failure.
I also read from others that they had the problem and the SIM was working for some time after I switched the battery before it stopped working.
Nevertheless. Good Luck to you. Maybe it is something different on your phone.
