Worth a Mention: Demolition Man Verbal Morality Statute monitor - Raspberry Pi General

Hi,
I found this awesome little project for the raspberry Pi not so long ago.
"The goal of this project is to replicate the functionality of the Demolition Man device as much as possible using continuous speech recognition and keyword spotting algorithms running on a small embedded platform (Raspberry Pi or Beaglebone Black)."
I haven't got it working properly on my PI (something to do with the sound inputs, but havent spent enough time on it so far).
I thought it was an AWESOME idea as I'm a massive Demolition Man fan.
Follow the link for more info: LINK
all credits go to tdicola for his awesome work.

This looks as a great idea!
With a kid on way, at home we are trying to control our swearing and this would be an awesome way of achieving a less-swearing-environment!

Longbox Digital meets NotionInk at CES

Rantz Hoseley from LongBox Digital about his time with NotionInk during the CES:
Rantz Hoseley said, on January 10, 2011 at 05:52 We had a great time with Rohan, Rohit, and Varun yesterday, having driven out to Vegas from Orange County for an afternoon meeting with ************ (A very large entertainment and media company) about content and to give them some hands-on time with Adam so they could see why we were so effusive about Adam, and why IT is the tablet we (LongBox) are doing the exclusive OEM arrangement with, as well as the customer reader experience taking advantage of the Adam’s capabilities.
After 2 hours with the team and the tablet, they got it. They haven’t been impressed with ANY other Android tablet, and they were VERY excited about Adam. Rohan and everyone at Notion Ink should be truly proud… it really is a magnificent device, and even moreso when confronted by the fact that THIS is “V1″, and there are a LOT of really stunning things in development for upcoming releases…
As a consumer/geek, I will say that I LOVE Adam, and while I had been excited about the features such as the PixelQi screen, the HDMI out, the multi-tasking, the ability to tether as an input device… the THREE things that REALLY had my head spinning with possibilities for the entire 5 hour drive home last night were:
1.) Audio – The Spatial Audio on Adam is the best I have heard on ANY tablet. It is going to make the original/first run enhanced content being done for LongBox this year REALLY amazing.
2.) The speed – We’ve been working with early revs, and emulators, and those were ‘not slow’. The device itself, with a metric TON of stuff running, is so speedy and fluid. It’s really jaw-dropping.
3.) The Canvas experience – as someone who has been a professional artist for over 30 years, I was very excited to kill 20 minutes just drawing and painting with Canvas on Adam. On the iPad, and on other android pads, I’d experienced ‘fill in’ with fast ‘hatching’ – drawing lines at VERY fast speed back and forth to add shade – that with those devices it would get to the point that after a 10 count I would have to wait a second or two while the lines catch up drawing. Not so with the Adam tablet… regardless of opacity, color, width, how many layers, etc… it was like butter… smooth.
It really is something special, and as Rohan and I talked about, you can tell the difference in philosophy behind it.
very exciting times…

GS2 on an RC Plane! (1080p)

I just thought I'd share what the video is like from a Samsung Galaxy S2 when it's strapped to an RC plane... with duct tape!
Sorry about the noise from 1m 35s (the start of the whole flight), maybe next time I'll disable sound recording!
Maybe the first of many flights and whilst only done twice thus far, each time I put the phone in 'flight mode' I have to smile
eeek .. I cannot post video links Umm, 8 posts? ..
the link if anyone cares to see it is: [EDIT] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vf_V0VgMLXU
Here's a clickable link for the more lazy users here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vf_V0VgMLXU
Thanks D3 .. I've not got many posts as I spend more time reading than writing
BTW, what did you use to mount it to the plane? I'd be way too worried about it falling off to try something like this
EDIT: just read the rest of the first post
I guess I should spend less time writing and more time reading
Crazy bastard. My heart would be beating at an excess of 400 beats per minute if my phone was strapped on an RC plane flying high enough to trash my phone completely if it fell.
Although I reckon you'd be more worried about the plane in such a situation,eh?
Hahahahah, awesome! You sir are nucking futs! And for that, I thank you.
I was more worried about the phone actually .. and in hind sight, the plane was repaired once after it fell out of the sky and I still decided to strap my phone on... what was I thinking?!
Years ago, there was a video of a Nokia N93 strapped to a plane that fell off but survived! youtube.com watch?v=l_o-vxvaN6c [sorry... can't link yet!]
I consequently bought an n93 and after I lost that, an n93i, which I attached to a larger plane with rubber bands At the time, that was my 'current phone'..
he must trust his RC plane flying skills a lot
Where I want to take this:
Onboard sensor logging + HD video. It'd be nice to see the accel., etc sensor data for the flight... I tried a few, with varying success ... after sensor/flight tracking, wireless transmissions!
The possibilities truly are infinite!
You are NUTS.
But that's awesome. RC planes is something I want to get into eventually, mainly to experiment with stuff like the DiyDrones autopilots.
Too bad the BeagleBone doesn't have a video encoder... it would be perfect for airborne video if it did!

You can buy some cheap planes these days and controllers. I looked into the DIY drone system and bought myself an Arduino, never used with RC and made a basic laser projector and a few other bits but not to it's potential. As I'd not even heard of the BeagleBoard, I briefly looked and it seems promising. The thing I'm ever so curious about is the Raspberry Pi...
I only ever wanted to film aerial photography but now I find myself seeing a few pieces of technology finally being hacked together. Options: Arduino + plane, Arduino + android + plane. One's smartphone could indeed, be a smart controller.
My phone has all sorts of sensors and records video, why not put that to good use, it's got datalogging, GPS, accelerometers, compass, it comes with a touchscreen interface and records video, I want to put it all to good use
If you are looking at easy DIY drone, you could start looking at the ArduPilot, and other variants. I think it caters for planes, helis, quadcopters and hexacopters... I think the later options are worthy aerial drones as they hover... and are quite stable... ArduIMU .. there are lots of free source code, etc available should you want to check it out.
I wonder if one of these could hold a Galaxy S II .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CR5y8qZf0Y
crazy man!

idea to make a new android dev board

Hello!
I'm working on a very ambitious project and I thought i'd reach out to see if anyone here at xda would have some comments.
I detailed the basics in this reddit post:
http://www.reddit.com/r/SideProject/comments/2pqh3f/an_idea_to_end_the_proprietary_living_room/
TL/DR: I want to make a new embedded dev board (like a raspberry pi) but with more power, and HDMI Inputs, and HDCP Compliance. This dev board would be the heart (brain) of new open source AV Receivers.
I want to target linux, as well as Android with this. I think an Android powered AV Receiver would be AMAZING!
Currently i'm leaning towards an atom processor, as the price is right, and the performance seems to be very good. x86 development is very mature, however that could prove a hindrance, as arm is more optimized. However, i'm sure others have insight into the ideal configuration. I haven't used the nexus player (only x86 device i know of), so i'm interested in hearing peoples experiences.
I welcome all questions and comments. I'm looking for someone interested in helping with the design of the board.

Is this $5 Linux WiFi board the Raspberry Pi killer?

Hey guys,
Stumbled upon on this the other day, looks very interesting but too good to be true
kickstarter .com/projects/onion/omega2-5-iot-computer-with-wi-fi-powered-by-linux
Do you think this will be a raspberry pi killer for diy iot projects like home automation? What do you think?
Yes and no.
The Omega 2 comes with only 32mb of ram and only 16mb of flash storage, which means that the possibility of adding custom OS'es is very slim. Maybe Puppy Linux, but still. For people using it for GPIO projects or just for projects that don't require a lot of processing power, it is a Pi killer. But for those who want to use it as a desktop, its 580mhz CPU will definitely hold back.
What I like about it is the size. It's "less than a 1/4 of the Raspberry Pi" they claim on Kickstarter. Its perfect for small projects, but its not a Pi killer. The Pi has many advantages, and the Omega has to have an adapter to even use it.
Thanks for the reply. I've backed it because its pretty damn cheap and I've got some ideas that would be perfect for it. They're bringing aboard a lot of developers too which should be pretty exciting for the community.
And they got a pretty sweet feature on techcrunch which is pretty cool

Thanks!!!!! XP
