Started from the bottom, now I'm here. - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo General

Started from the bottom now my whole crew of apps is freaking here. I finally got my Droid Turbo and I'm in love . I went from broken screen purgatory, to sweet top of the pyramid android godliness.

I can't believe I second guessed myself and was tempted to trade it in for a Sony Z3v. My iPhone 6 suddenly feels like a piece of under-powered crap although I love the fingerprint scanner, end to end facetime security and essentially iMessage. If only the Droid Ultra had a fingerprint scanner too, OMG I think I would faint. So now I have two of the three phones I want most (iPhone 6 and Droid Ultra), I really wanted a OnePlus One to use for everyday stuff as to not put the Droid Turbo at too much risk but that logic goes out the window when I found out I can replace the phone for up to two years if the screen breaks. My last droid was dropped multiple times and the screen integrity only failed after my German Sheppard puppy at the time chewed on the phone until there was a tiny little crack and the next time it hit the ground the screen shattered, so I'm confident trust that I probably wont need a replacement or even a cheap backup android like the OnePlus One. I just felt the need to share my joy with my favorite community to geek out over phones with OMG OMG OMG okay Im done for now. But I'm in loooooove, it feels so good in your hands, until it gets too hot, but that's okay, it just means my sweetheart is working her little tail off. Okkay now this is getting creepy. I thought I would be exchanging this phone in a week for something "thinner" but I think I made a good choice. Is there anyone out there who actually regrets getting the Droid Turbo and if so why?

I regret cuz no root.

I am not sure if you have got yourself confused with the names or what...
You had a Droid Ultra... You have a Droid Turbo now!
Anyways Happy for you...
Okay I am not sure what's happening in your OP... You know u have a droid turbo but want a Droid Ultra to have a fingerprint scanner?

I somehow came to the conclusion that it could be rooted before I got it (not sure how), and so I almost returned it when I figure out that I couldn't. I'm glad I didn't though. The thing is an absolute beast, and it isn't like Verizon has other rootable phones anyways.

Exactly. The only solution is to dump Verizon and go to a GSM carrier like AT&T or T-mobile and get the Moto Maxx (XT1225) which is the "international" version of the 64GB ballistic Droid Turbo (XT1254). Same hardware specs, but the Moto Maxx has unlockable bootloader which allows root, TWRP recovery, SuperSu, Xposed framework, Gravity Box, etc. Has 3 of 4 AT&T LTE bands (2, 4, 17), while the Droid Turbo has only two (2, 4) --and the same two T-mobile bands (2, 4).
But the main advantage is the root stuff.
Unless you live in an area that absolutely needs Verizon -- in which case you have to settle for Droid Turbo which has unlockable bootloader.

Completely regret getting the turbo.
Besides no root/BL unlock it just ran sluggish at times for me and the chrome paint around the edges started to chip after only a month of having it.
Horrible speakers and mic. Can't hear people talk and they couldn't hear me at times.
Sold it in a hurry and got a real phone.

Thanks for sharing. Dont let the door hit you on the way out. Us people with fake phones are happy with with them.

I'm kinda bummed out regarding the root and lollipop delay. I'm hoping it doesn't take forever but happy with the device so far. Using my iPhone 6 more often in public though (finger print scanner)

I was going to get the droid turbo until I heard no root and for the op who said no Verizon phones can be rooted I'm sitting happily on cm12 with my lg g3 if you want root access go with lg it's the only oem that's not locked down on verizon

How to UNBRAND you Motorola Atrix Battery COVER.

I'm with Rogers here in Canada and hated the fact that AT&T was on the battery cover so I did a little experiment and it worked.
1) Get a Penny
2) Using the Penny slowly scratch off the AT&T Logo and make sure you don't press that hard.
3) Wipe your phone battery cover and now it is debranded and the AT&T Logo is Gone and you're phone is scratch free.
*** Use at your own risk I did it on my Atrix and it's perfect but I take no responsibility and I can't guarantee it won't damage your phone ***
how about a picture?
Can't you just use sugar? That's the safe way, because the sugar breaks down as you go. Saw it on Lifehacker, but here's the direct link:
http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-remove-Logos-from-your-PDA--cell-phone-wit/
Kind of silly how easy that was... I tried a few things and it seems like the penny idea is the best so far. Have some patience. It eventually "catches" on the ink a bit and once part of it comes off, it's a lot easier to get off. I was able to get it off with my fingernail once I got it chipped a little.
I did the AT&T, HD Video and moto logo. Posting pics in a minute. Camera battery is dead.
Edit: ^ I can't speak for everyone, but I don't have sugar cubes sitting around. Even if I did, the prep for that method would take as long as this did. It's really up to the owner to choose, but having just tried the method described in this thread, I'd have to say there's not reason not to just grab a coin and start rubbing. The hardest part was getting up off my couch to grab a penny lol.

And just so people don't freak out when they try this: Not sure about the OP, but you can barely see where the logos used to be from certain angles in the right lighting. I really, really have to try to see it, but it can be spotted. This might go away in a few days.. time will tell. It was really easy to bring out with the camera for some reason, so here is a shot with that showing up:

HOly crap I just took off the AT&T Logo not the Motorola Stuff....
Aww damn, I wish I saw this before I got my ghost armor full body protector put on saturday... I'd feel dumb having them reinstall it just to take the logos off.
What are you guys going to do when it comes time to sell your Atrix down the road? Was it really that big of a bother?

Your point? I think most people like debranded phones, especially the types who will be buying atrix's in 6-9 months for 400 or so bucks, which I think is the amount of time folks who debrand on this forum will have the phone.

It's a small thing that makes it look cleaner in my opinion. I'd imagine I can just buy a new cover by the time I might be looking at selling my phone. As mentioned, it might not even be an issue that a buyer would care about anyways.
ahha WOW THANKS OP!
i'm waiting for my AT&T Atrix in the mail right now but i was wondering the EXACT SAME THING for the longessst time!
i personally hate branded phones, and i was gonna see if Motorola sold battery covers on their site just to get an "unbranded" cover, but i will DEF try this penny trick once i get my Atrix
I'm also curious if Bell Canada will release with the Bell branded logo on the cover...
it's coming out next week

Bells phones are never branded and when their phone comes out it will be $599 plus taxes, I paid a little less than that plus I got one now. To be honest I haven't used mine yet I'm still waiting on the unlock code so its just sitting in my closet.

If you are willing to test it, with no warranty asserted by me, try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on what little bit it left. After peeling off the 100+ letters that comprised the name/location of the shady dealer where I bought my car, a few light passes of the eraser removed the faint outline that remained of the letters.
holy crap. that was the easiest case mod I've ever done on a phone. I literally did it in 30sec with the rounded back of my key. My old windows phones (SMT5600 particularly) had their logos on much harder than this thing
seriously i think i love my phone a lot more than before after this
I love my att logo as well as the Motorola logo. Both companies have done good things so far.

Yep , I just did my mod to my atrix ... I love my pretty much unbranded N1 and now I have my atrix right there with it. Left just the moto label and removed all else and the blur added piece.
Did it with a dull key, looks great. No more AT&T, MOTO BLUR, HD Video, or on button logos!

Not really loving it...

Well, been using my GS3 for about 4 days now and I must say that I am somewhat underwhelmed by it so far. The jump between my EVO to the Epic 4G Touch was much greater than that from the E4GT to the GS3 (as expected). However, there are 3 gripes that I just bothering me more than I initially thought they would:
1. Camera - The Epic 4G Touch's picture quality is light-years ahead than that of the GS3. This is really unacceptable for a flagship device. Sure, the shutter speed is quite fast, but the quality is just not there. Part of the reason I skipped over the Galaxy Nexus was the camera inferiority to the E4GT and here I am with the GS3. The HTC EVO LTE at the store seemed to take amazing pictures. Haven't compared them side-by-side, but I feel I'll be more disappointed if I do.
2. The power button - I don't see a lot of people complaining about this, but I'm having a difficult time adjusting to the power button. The curved bezel in conjunction with the flushness of the button makes it hard to find/press it most of the time. Even though it feels quite clickable, it takes some digging around every time I need to use it. I'm hoping that the Slim Case I ordered will help with this as the cutouts will guide me better. It's a small gripe, I know, but it's enough to annoy me.
3. Speed - I know that this phone will smoke most of the competition, including the E4GT, but I'm not really blown-away by it. Once the apps are opened (which I admit to being quite fast), it seems to take longer for the information to download and appear (Play Store, Facebook, etc). I don't know if it's the connection or the phone itself. Never had this issue with the previous phone.
That's about it really. I know it's nothing major, but it's enough to taint my experiences. I'll give it another week before I decide what to do with it. But I'm really leaning towards the HTC EVO LTE (even though I find it hideous) or just going with a Galaxy Nexus (and not have to worry about future upgrades, etc).
Sorry about the rant... just had to let it out.
Speed -
You don't feel smoothness , and fast information because android
The problem is not the device , its the software
Android is still "buggy" , i have Asus Prime Tegra 3 -and i dont feel smoothness
Maybe next android version will be more smoother and faster
Just return it and stop complaining

The power button on mine is not quite right too, it is less flushed against the bezel compared to the volume rocker and creaks at the touch, it also feels spongy when pushed. That's not enough to slate the phone though because I know the capabilities of this beast hence I'm waiting for my exchange. If yours is the same ill advise you to do the same.

You're using the Sprint version right? If so, why are you posting in the international GT-I9300 forum?
Plus, it's already been quoted in several reviews that the US versions have a slight lag during usage that the international version does not. Just return the phone and move on.
@Stea1thmode: Thanks bud! Will do!
@everyone else: Take your meds and learn to deal with criticism.
This phone was really smooth for me. Bur my major problem is not being able to get into download mode.
The screen is also mediocre. =/ Wondering if I should have bought LG Optimus 4x instead, I only picked this phone for the custom firmwares..
There's nothing worse than having an S3 on Sprint. It's bad enough that you have to deal with the inferior CPU, but also the non-existent LTE network that is set to debut sometime between now and when hell freezes over.
why do US variant owners come to the international section to B!TCH and complain?????

Closed, because you posted this in the wrong forum for a start, and because its a stupid thread.

Ok that settles it, this is the best phone ever created.

Ok so I entered into the Android world with an original Atrix. I was wowed by the "dual core processor". That phone was horrible.
I stayed with Android however and clang to Samsung for a year or so. I recently became fed up with my One X and S3 and was looking for something with better build quality. I found the Atrix HD. It's build quality was superior to the S3 and I much prefer on screen buttons. Obviously the One X had hardware buttons as well, which bugged me, but what really bugged me about the One X is that after 2 weeks, the beauitiful matte finish on the back started to wear off. This made the phone look uneven and cheap on the back with some parts shiny and others matte. I was completely tired of dealing with Android phones with poor build quality.Even the Atrix wasn't perfect, the damn sim door squeaked everytime you touched it, I actually thought about gluing it closed. Thats how much it bugged me. I am still spoiled by my Apple products that I used to own (NEVER AGAIN), but I love Android and would never go back to iOS. You have to admit the iPhone is a solid device hardware wise.
I then stumbled across the RAZR HD in a Verizon store. This was the best quality Android phone I had ever seen. I was sad that I could not buy it, as I have AT&T. It didn't take long for me to figure out that I could get one from Canada (Rogers) and it would work just fine with AT&T. After searching for weeks I FINALLY won a reasonable eBay auction.
My phone arrived today. This makes my Atrix look like a toy. This is the most solid and well built Android device I have ever seen. Certainly right there with the iPhone, if not better. I also was suprised to see that this phone has a much better camera than the Atrix as well. Also the speaker is the loudest and clearest I have come across. My co workers thought I was blasting a laptop earlier it was so loud. Totally blown away with this phone.
In my opinion this phone can not be touched right now. Sure there are phones on the market that have quad cores and twice the RAM, but I bet you those same phones don't have the build quality of this one. And if they even come close, there will be something else lacking, such as the camera or speaker (Optimus G). It just seems that the RAZR HD is good in every single category a phone can be.
I really hope motorola keeps this up and I can't wait to see whats next.

I agree. This is the best phone I've ever used.
Consumer Reports have at the best Verizon phone available.
This is the best phone I've used as well, but my only other smartphone was a Motorola Defy, and while long in the tooth now, an avid development community on this forum has kept it going. It'll be getting 4.2 before my RazrHD gets 4.1, at this rate. Actually, scratch that, CyanogenMod 4.2 on Defy is at about the same stage as 4.1 for RazrHD.
Just waiting for the software to catch up with the hardware. I miss Jelly Bean, but I don't want an early alpha on my phone again, I use it for work.

Yep I think without a question the Razr Maxx HD is the best Android out. The build quality cannot be touched by samsung and htc sure there are quad core phones out but as someone pointed out they are running heavy touchwiz or sense skins that use up resources. I love it how close to stock android the RAZR is, its not like touchwiz and sense where you have to throw on a launcher just to get a decent experience.

Are you planning to 'keep' your G4?

Seeing as the G4 was released days ago I'm sure a lot of us are still within the 'buyers remorse' period, which leads me to the question, myself included.
Are you planning on keeping yours even if say root won't be available?
I'm on Tmobile, and used my jump (1) coming from the Note 4 and still trying to decide whether or not to keep the G4. To me it definitely feels better in hand and more compact. Plenty fast, camera is great but I am hoping for root as I'd want to disable some crap.
What's everyone else thinking?
I'm on those that don't care about root, so yeah i bought G4 to keep it as my 2015 phone and next year let's see what's up for me .
And i'm loving this phone in all ways so yeah, i'm not even thinking a bit about returning it.
I'm keeping it no matter what happens! Best phone ever 100000%!

I'm thinking I'll return it. If not for the fact that I'm on Verizon and most likely the BL will remain locked, then because the WiFi load speeds suck. I get 40mb down on my 5ghz router yet the load times on Web pages are horrible. There is definitely something wrong with WiFi.

This is everything I could ask for in a phone. I don't see myself even upgrading next year. I don't know what I could even want extra. I only text my gf and family and browse the web and take pictures for self pleasure. I don't feel the need to spend another 600 on a phone. Keeping my g3 as a backup phone and possibly selling it if the price is right.
Love the phone. Only slightly better than the G3 in my opinion but thats still pretty darn good. Camera is amazing though and the rear speaker is loud and powerful. I'll be keeping it.
Love the phone since turning off fast dormancy fixed my battery problems, it's superior to my s5 in all respects now the s6 was just that one step too much like an iPhone for me and HTC pissed me off when they used to promise device updates and not deliver by uturning at the last moment. Only thing I'm waiting on its a decent gen 3 Android wear watch to launch. And root is no good to me as my banking app will not install to a rooted device due to security issues.
Even though this thing was totally an impulse buy (stopped at Best Buy Thursday to check out a floor model and ended up buying), I'm actually extremely satisfied. I think a lot of keeping or returning depends on the device you're coming from. For me, this screen blows the Nexus 6's out of the water in terms of brightness, color, and clarity. The size is more manageable and I'm not dealing with random app crashes (especially the google play services issues for the past couple weeks).
For the past few years, I've never had a preference between AMOLED or LCD, but I think this finally did it. I can't think of too many screens I've looked at days after purchase and still thought it was an absolute joy to look at.
I'm on AT&T and I can't say that root or no root bothers me too much. It's fun to tinker with new roms, but I don't have any real reason for root. I couldn't stand not having a notification light on the Nexus 6, so I needed root for that. The only thing I miss is being able to change my emojis to match my wife's S5. Another reason I enjoy root and unlocked bootloader is in case poor updates come out, then I can usually revert.
For reference, I've owned many phone in the past year and a half. Some short that got returned or sold and some for longer periods. Moto X 2013, Note 3, Nexus 5, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy S5, G3, Galaxy S6, Nexus 6, and finally the G4.
I am getting it swapped out with Tmobile. Heat, lag, etc. Hope 2nd time's the charm...
I think im gonna keep it. I just ordered a bunch of stuff for it like quick charger, cases....

Isn't fast dormancy beneficial to have on?
When I checked mine it's status was unknown, disabled it for now to see what happens.
Was told or read it's only beneficial if your carrier supports it else it generates Wake locks

that Was My g4 with it on no real use pretty much standby.
After I switched it off I'm calling my carrier on Monday to confirm if they support FD.
Who's your carrier?
I'm probably swapping for another G4 with Tmobile on Monday. Outside chance I get something else instead, but I really want the G4 to work out. I'm having touchscreen issues and my battery life isn't great.
The reviews wowed me much more than the actual phone, which isn't that but of an upgrade. Yeah, the camera is amazing but I barely use them. The screen is really nice and it is pretty quick though.
I'm keeping it but there are a few things I wish were changed, mostly small annoyances like having to swipe to unlock the phone after clicking a notification or the swipe to unlock message altogether.

I'm really on the fence. I've been waiting for the G4 for a while, but discovered at the last minute that Best Buy didn't offer the leather cases for Verizon. I bought the gray one anyhow ($100 gift card), THEN discovered that Verizon had removed several software features such as Themes and Smart Settings. Finally, I was originally concerned about the size of the phone, since I felt that the G3 was the maximum size I would want. The G4 isn't much longer, but it is wider (so wide that it doesn't fit into my car clip). It didn't seem that big in the store, but once I put a case on it, it seemed to fall into the "phablet" category. Throw in a battery life that's not as impressive as advertised, and buyer's remorse starts creeping in.
It's a nice phone, but it's not that much of an improvement over my G3 to completely win me over. I'll give it another week and a half, but at this point I doubt I'll keep it.

Canadian release April 8th? Who's in?

I'm with Wind Mobile (who's vague as an abstract painting about their release), but they're only giving out phones to new accounts.
The trick is to go to one of their corporate offices (which would be a "warranty repair centre") where they can't deny you a sale of said new device.
So, tomorrow, bright and early, this guy's going into town with the hopes that they have one in stock.
Wind doesn't lock their phones like other carriers do (not at all), so it's going to be interesting to see whether we can get full root on this thing or not (fingers crossed).
Who's going in on said device here in Canada?
Post phone lock states and whatnot to this thread! For science, and curiosity. :fingers-crossed:

Apparently the Wind shop closest to me is backordered on said G5 for at least one week, rep would not confirm anything else (still vague).
Roommate snagged one up at a Bell kiosk just as they got a shipment of camera modules in stock. He spent an hour there between the kiosk rep and on the phone with "customer loyalty" trying to get a better deal since he's been with them 10 years, and nothing came out of it other than the standard free attachment.
His phone warmed up a fair bit during initial setup and charging but he seems happy with it overall. His only gripe is -- why can't the camera attachment hardware buttons snap a photo while screen off?
I got mine - here in Manitoba.
Picked mine up earlier today with the cam plus module for free! I thought they were only giving these to those who re-upped for two years.

- But I did re-up. Sweet, fast phone with some refined MM goodness. Watch out for the edges of the screen protector.
The screen "tapers" or is slightly thinner at the edges/corners - looks like a recipe for frustration as the screen protector will not remain perfect for long. I noticed the after enabling Dev Options I have the "Enable OEM Unlocking" function. I have no illusions that anything would be this simple.....
Yeah but still no Bootloader unlock.
That oem unlocking is just part of os

Wind does have the LG G5 for existing customers too. I found it in the list of upgrade phones. Perhaps I will wait for a proper root before upgrading...

my plan was to get the device as soon as it came out, but when I got our demo device in store, I put off my decision till hearing more about the HTC 10.
The things I have noticed with the demo at my store is
1: The module at the bottom does not line up with the device, it might not be lots but it is enough. Plus worry about the future if the gap will get bigger
2: Audio quality is really weak. After using the G4 for the last while, I find the G4 has better placement and a better speaker all together.
3: The phones "metal body" feels weird. It does feel solid but at the same time it does not. Hard to explain
Those are my main issues, now with the camera, I do like the idea with the wide angle lenses but i wish the dual lenses was to help with zoom. Also I wish they upgraded the 16MP shooter. Dont get me wrong, the sensor is great with the G4 and G5, but I would have liked to see it improved even more. One other thing I would loved to see is before the phone was even released, LG going to the different accessory makers to give them the module access so when the phone launched they had more modules.
I dont know, maybe I am just being nit picky but I think LG dropped the ball a bit on this one. My final decision will be when I get my hands on the HTC 10 and G5 at the same time.
Got mine on Friday morning. Comparing this with the G3, G4 and Note Edge I find this thing to be ultra fast. Camera is pretty good although bright, its very noisey. Audio quality is ok.
Waiting for a root method,. unlocked the oem part, hopefully we will see root soon, Cant wait to seeing v10 camera app ports and custom kernels with exposed stuff
